It had started as a normal day in the 4077th camp. Doctors and nurses were in and out of the post op room, which connected to Radar's office. Radar was busily typing away reports for Colonel Potter while this happened, hyperfocused on his work. As he typed away on his typewriter, he heard the doctors go in and out of the post op room.
The telephone suddenly rang, causing Radar to jump out of skin. "Oh geez!" he fumbled with his paperwork and scrambled to pick up the telephone. He picked up the telephone. "M.A.S.H. 4077, who's calling?" he asked. "Sparky?..what?! Who you got on call with you?..the general?..Alright, hang on I'll get Colonel Potter!" he said quickly. He set the phone down and then got up and rushed into Colonel Potter's office. " Colonel Potter! Wake up sir! There's a phone call from one of the higher up fellas!" he said interrupting the colonels nap.
"What in san hills name is going on?" he exclaimed as he woke up from his nap to find Radar motioning to answer the telephone.
"Generals on the phone, sounds urgent!" Radar replied quickly hearing Colonel potter bark at him. He went back into his office, nervously tapping his hand against his desk. What could the general be calling for? He wondered. He knew it usually was either an inspection or something not good.
"Move our Mash unit now? Are you nuts General Pratt? We've got some pretty sick kids here right now, moving isn't exactly ideal .." he paused and listened to the general tell him of the reasons of the move and he frowned. "I see..yes no I understand the seriousness of it all, I''ll let my team know" he replied. He hung up the phone and grimaced, moving mash was no easy task. He got up quickly and headed for the door. "R-
"Yes sir?" he was interrupted by Radar opening the door, already knowing what he wanted. "Ready the" he was again interrupted. "Ready everyone outside so you can speak to em sir?" he asked. "Yes Radar that's right, rally the troops, we've got orders from higher up to move on out of here..the fronts coming too close to camp" he replied.
"Oh gee, that's nuts" he replied and rushed out of the colonels office, heading out of his own office after he picked up his trumpet. He blew on it sharply and glanced around. "Attention! Attention everybody! ..yoo hoo! The colonel needs you to all gather round NOW!" he yelled, his voice cracking a little.
The other soldiers, nurses and doctors came over and stood in front of Radar with a puzzled expression.
"Whats all the hub bub about Radar?" Hawkeye asked glancing at the younger man with a baffled expression. "Yeah what's the big news, that were having meatloaf for dinner?" B.J chimed in. "how lovely..bet it'll have cardboard for a side too" Hawkeye replied with a little roll of his eyes.
"No, it's nothing like that!.." Radar barked. He then shook his head. "Ooo pipe down!, this is serious you two! The colonels got big news!" he added in a sharper tone.
"Yes you two let's let our little friend speak" Charles remarked, giving Hawkeye and B.G a rather irritated look.
As the three of them bickered, Colonel Potter came out of his and Radar's office and walked over to face all of them. "Alright, this isn't pretty news for me to report but the higher ups want us to wrap up camp and move somewhere else, the fronts moving too close and we gotta be outta here lickity split" he remarked.
The company of soldiers, doctors and nurses groaned but soon composed themselves.
"Best we get to work " Father McCaley said and glanced at his campmates. "Come on, chop chop.." he said and ushered them to work to help the colonel. Soon enough everyone was busily packing up the 4077 camp.
Lots of hours passed and the camp had gotten their tents and supplies packed up and patients ready to transport in the ambulance. Colonel Potter had even gotten Sophie saddled up and ready to go as well. He was ready to lead his group out of camp.
"Alright folks are you all ready to head out?" Colonel Potter glanced over his shoulder as he sat atop Sophie.
"Aye..Aye captain!" Hawkeye called back from one of the jeeps. Colonel Potter saw some nods from the other jeeps and ambulances drivers as well. "Alright then lets shove off!" he ordered and began leading his company to the new temporary spot that the higher ups had decided to send them all to.
After a long trek through the dusty roads of korea, being stopped by several bored patrols, the 4077th finally made it to their new camp position.
"Radar-" Colonel Potter called as he stopped beside one of the many jeeps. "See-
"Yes sir?.." Radar paused. "See to it that everyone gets settled and the wounded are taken care of sir?" he guessed.
"Pronto, couldn't have said it better myself Sport" he remarked and took Sophie over to a nearby tree and dismounted her. He tied her to the tree and then hurried over to the jeeps, beginning to help the doctors and other soldiers get things set up. While he was colonel, he pitched in just as much as any of the other soldiers around here.
By the end of the day the 4077th company had gotten all of their tents set up and had managed to get the patients settled in their new post op tent.
"Well well well, our swamp away from swamp" Hawkeye said as he admired the tent he, Charles and B.J. had constructed together. "A home away from home home" he remarked chuckling slightly. "Oh please..would you two stop your drivel" Charles remarked after he stood up after pitching the last tent spike.
"Never!.." Hawkeye protested and laughed. "Oh lighten up, we are just trying to make light of a bad situation" he remarked with a huff. "And I'm trying to forget I'm in said situation..Peirce.." Charles replied in a firm tone.
