No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 1

Chapter Seven: Astronaut In The Ocean (Part 7)

...

Steve Rogers was worried, but also entertained.

The little gathering for Sofia's birthday had ended, and it left him at odds about Victor Strange. The soldier didn't like what he witnessed at all, but what he saw around him in that moment was altering his mood.

He was walking down a busy sidewalk with two stubborn brunettes. It entertained him tremendously, because they both were completely silent.

Bucky and Tony had a nice chat earlier that day right? So, what was the problem?

Steve kept grinning. He looked around and pondered their upcoming "conversation" with Ezekiel, while Tony and Bucky kept on walking.

The soldier wondered how long it would take. He expected them to either squabble at some point, or fight to the death right off the bat. It almost made him laugh, because Steve had been dealing with those two for ...centuries.

They both wanted to talk to him about what happened but, at the same time, they both wanted the other to take a hike. That wasn't going to happen, because Steve Rogers was content with just walking down the sidewalk.

He didn't need to discuss what he saw, so the soldier kept on marching. His smile strengthened when he finally heard a voice. Bucky Barnes spoke first, and it made Steve's eyebrow arch up pretty quickly.

"So, is your dad getting all, stir crazy? Not working?"

Howard Stark had retired. Steve's amusement accelerated after Bucky spoke, because his friend directed all his attention toward Tony. That was a first. The blonde couldn't believe what he heard.

Steve glanced in Tony's direction. They kept walking onward, and he waited to hear how that little red corvette planned to react.

Tony heard Bucky and he thought about his parents. They weren't murdered for once, so...

"He's picked up a few new hobbies."

Like farming. Tony had been to their retirement home a few times. Their closest neighbors were Stephen's parents, and they all picked corn together out in Nebraska.

Bucky was glad to get a response. He gave Steve a quick look, then he said something else about Tony's father. Howard Stark was a subject that kept Bucky on solid ground with Tony in that dimension, so he spoke about him pretty confidently.

Tony thought a lot more about his mother whenever his parents were brought up. Steve knew more about that, but the soldier just observed. He kept looking between the two of them.

Steve was stuck in the middle of them, like always, but they finally weren't barking at one another. That had Steve feeling pretty good about the little walk that they had going.

He waited for Bucky to say something more, but it wasn't happening. The silence between them all was getting a bit painful as it carried on, and the vibe was getting pretty icy.

Steve debated how and when to cut in.

...

...

...

Baby steps.

...

...

"Sooooo, does Natasha get all stir crazy, working and dealing with you?"

Tony added to the small talk. Hearing that caused Steve to have a mild heart attack. The baby steps he witnessed in that moment were causing his heart to race.

I mean, it was just...

"I think she enjoys it."

Ah. Cool. Tony gave Steve a certain look. The look indicated that Tony was playing along, but he still wanted Bucky Barnes to kick rocks. He didn't plan to trust Bucky anytime soon, but the smaller brunette did plan to play nice for the moment.

He'd be jumping his shit if Steve wasn't there. Tony thought of that as he cleared his throat, while the group kept on walking. They planned to "hang out" until Stephen Strange was ready to speak to Ezekiel Stane.

The mighty sorcerer had a lot on his plate, so they all agreed to wait for him in the big city.
