No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 1

Chapter Fifteen: The Meddler (Part 5)

...

"Uhh, I think...I gotta say something."

Victor Strange quickly paused the video game again. He was being obliterated by his friendly roommate, partially because he had something on his mind.

The baby Strange had to stop the game because he couldn't shake off what had happened, while Clint Barton did his best to shake it off.

Victor got super close to him. It didn't... freak him out or anything like that. Ok, maybe it did. The archer was just confused. He felt off about it in that moment, and he wasn't sure why Victor got all weird.

Clint briefly looked over in his direction. A mess of food debris had gathered up around him. The archer noticed it, so he started cleaning up his space.

"Yeah?"

Say what? Clint kinda shrugged. It wasn't like they kissed or something. Right? The baby archer thought about what he once witnessed between Ezekiel and Victor at the safe house. Their behavior was...

"I think Ezekiel borrowed your body, for just a moment. You weren't playing the game correctly, and.."

Victor's body started roasting. He hadn't spoken about Ezekiel out loud to anyone for weeks. He answered questions about him occasionally, but the baby Strange was more or less robotic about that.

Victor missed him. He missed him tremendously, and he thought about him all the time. He remembered where he was in that moment, so he quickly looked over at his roommate.

Clint's eyes were very wide. He looked very bewildered. Ezekiel, borrowed his body?

Borrowed it, for what? How the fuck...

"That's.."

"Did you tell me that you were, distracted? Do you remember saying that?"

Victor spoke quickly. Clint heard what was said, but he was still trying to process the idea of his body being snatched somehow. He kept thinking about an old movie called, the "Invasion of the Body Snatchers".

It was crazy, and Victor's face became very rosy. His friendly roommate noticed that, and he remembered again how they behaved during all the surveillance.

S.H.I.E.L.D. monitored Ezekiel constantly, even while he was attempting to be in a relationship with Victor. Barton was part of the surveillance team, so he saw quite a bit.

They behaved like a couple, and they hardly ever ventured out of the safe house.

Well, they couldn't leave the safe house...

so...

...

"I didn't say that to you."

"So, it had to have been Ezekiel. He used your body and said that."

"That's.."

...

Crazy. Clint remained confused. He wasn't sure what else Ezekiel Stane could do with his body in that moment, and he wasn't sure why he used his body in the first place. The archer felt a little uncomfortable, I mean...

Victor seemed happy about it. He looked...

"You two are still together, aren't you?"

Clint kinda wanted to know. Being Victor's roommate was an idea that he was approached with.

The archer normally lived at the S.H.I.E.L.D. base. He thought about going back there if..

...

Victor heard his question. He cleared his throat a little, then he sat back with his thoughts. "Together" was an odd word to use. The word didn't feel right in that moment, so Victor inwardly freaked out.

"We...well, he left. So, I guess, not?"

Victor didn't know. His face was burning up, and the subject only turned up the heat. He wanted to talk to Ezekiel and understand what he was doing. Victor didn't know why he suddenly showed up beneath someone else's skin.

Clint slowly swallowed down what he heard. The baby archer processed it, then he slowly looked down at the trash that he gathered up. It wasn't very late, but the archer felt like he needed to go.

"Ok. Well, I'm gunna toss this. Want me to take that?"

Clint pointed at the mess that Victor had gathered. The baby sorcerer glanced down beside his waist. Shit was officially awkward at that point, and Victor didn't know what to say at all.

He said, Ok?

...

"Wull...OK. NO, WAIT. I CAN GET IT."

...

Victor inwardly cringed at his own response. Clint Barton was very friendly. Polite. Cordial. The baby Strange didn't want to upset him. It felt like he kinda did.

He also needed to know exactly how the baby archer felt about the crazy situation that EZEKIEL had put them both in.

Victor planned to ask him to clarify. He needed those additional details, but the sorcerer quickly chickened out. His friendly roommate left the room to toss the trash, so Victor kept the questions to himself.
