No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 1
Chapter Twenty-five: Did I Let You Know (Part 5)
Clea Strange was doing some information hunting on her own. She was in the bedroom that she shared with Stephen, but her body was far up off the ground.
Her husband's words bothered her tremendously, so she decided to do some digging. Clea's mind was busy wandering around something called the "Metro-General" hospital.
She could see all the rooms and hallways where Stephen often roamed, but her plan was to locate someone else.
Clea stopped short when she read the name "Christine Palmer" on some sign, and she drew in a slow breath.
She had seen the woman before, long ago. Clea remembered that she had seen her twice, but they never spoke.
She didn't want to speak to her. Clea kept staring at her name while a bunch of noise developed around the space her mind was in.
It felt like, madness. The noises were everywhere and Clea couldn't stand it. The beeping sounds she heard wouldn't cease. The Sorceress Supreme almost covered her ears. She continued looking for Christine, until...
"I'm sorry mother.."
Sofia Strange gently touched her knee. Clea quickly returned to her skin, and she drew in a short breath. Sofia understood that she interrupted something that her mother was doing, but she was wide awake.
Sofia wanted to talk to her. She couldn't hold out or wait any longer.
She felt bad for interrupting, so she started chewing on one of her fingers. It was a habit that Stephen was trying to break, but there it was.
"Don't do that Sofia."
Clea touched her hand. She gently pulled that hand away from her mouth as she smiled. Sofia smiled back at her mother, then she glanced around the room.
"Who were you looking for?"
She could tell that her mother was searching. Clea held her smile until the question was asked. She was reminded of what Stephen said to her that morning, so that smile dropped like a rock.
"I was looking for someone that knows your father. An acquaintance."
The word "acquaintance" was used in front of Sofia, yet again. Someone used to say the word as a joke. Clea thought about that briefly, but then she started fixing Sofia's hair.
"Can I help?"
Sofia wanted to help her mother find the acquaintance. The thought of being helpful made her smile, but the subject wasn't having the same affect on Clea. She waited a moment before she gave her daughter a response.
"Sofia, I've already found her. I planned to speak to her today. Possibly."
Clea wasn't sure. The thought of being in the same room with Christine Palmer felt like a chore as it was, but involving Sofia?
That didn't feel right. Clea thought it over as she started separating parts of the hair that was in her hands. She started braiding Sofia's hair, while another question filled the room.
"Is she nice?"
"Most likely."
Her energy felt gentle. Christine Palmer was obviously weak, but...
Clea pondered what her husband said to her again. The curiosity about Stephen was killing her, but she made a decision with her daughter in mind.
The sorceress decided to return to the information she gathered when Stephen returned. Deep down, Clea wanted Stephen's "acquaintance" to actually acknowledge them, or understand exactly who they were.
She let it go for the time being, and prepared her daughter for a trip to the Dark.
