No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 1
Chapter Twenty-seven: Did I Let You Know (Part 7)
Victor Strange was given something to eat.
The person in front of him made him a small sandwich. Victor was having a hard time with the conversation, because he couldn't tell who he was talking to any longer.
He watched Clint Barton's hands as he prepared the food. He listened to him talk about this and that, but the baby sorcerer truly couldn't tell.
It felt like reality had slipped away from him, or something. Victor became very confused.
It also felt like his lungs were being squeezed. Victor thought about that as he looked outside of their fancy little kitchen.
"I'm heading back in soon. Vacation is almost up."
Clint Barton kept talking. He seemed relaxed where he was, and he was leaning back against the counter. He was mainly watching Victor.
The baby Strange definitely seemed off in that moment, but the friendly roommate failed to bring it up. The archer kept the conversation simple, and he watched him eat.
"Heading back?"
"Yeah, back to the S.H.I.E.L.D. base. I've received a mission, so I won't be hanging around as much."
Victor slowly closed his eyes. He tried to feel around the energy that was in the kitchen beside them.
He caught a glimpse of, something...
Something flashed through his mind very quickly.
"That's.."
Great? Victor's body was telling him to drop the chat. The conversations he had with his friendly roommate were very minimal, and the baby sorcerer was beginning to understand why.
Was he hiding in there all the time, or...
"I was thinking, well more wondering, if you wanted to do something before I went back? Just, something simple."
Field "Agent" Clint Barton wasn't sure where he was going with his question. He often thought about going somehwere with Victor, or doing something with him outside the apartment.
His question wasn't technically ignored, but Victor didn't respond to it at all. He looked up from the food he was given, and he tried getting a read on the energy that was in the room once again.
Barton's energy felt warm. It warmed up quite a bit, but it didn't seem like he was alone. Victor processed what he said in an unexpected way. The baby sorcerer set down the plate of food.
"Is that the plan?"
Victor liked that plan, if it was. The confusion he had about who he was talking to had elevated long before he heard the archer's friendly question.
"Plan? What do you mean plan?"
Now Clint Barton became confused. Victor's response broke his brain. I mean? The archer wasn't sure what to think. He took a moment to process what he heard and where he was.
Victor looked up at him again, but he didn't say anything. He just looked at him like he was studying something. Studying his face, or...
The archer had to look away pretty quickly. He was on the verge of understanding his roommates behavior, and it started affecting him where he stood.
The plan? His plan? Or, Ezekiel's plan? The archer could only guess. The thought of leaving and doing his laundry at the S.H.I.E.L.D. base returned to him in that moment.
"You mean, your boyfriend's plan?"
Right? The baby archer's tone changed. It became cold and a little rude. Victor had to contemplate what was said. The idea of leaving the apartment and doing something "simple" was something that he wanted to do with Ezekiel for a long time.
They stole moments like that when they could, but...
The baby sorcerer quietly cleared his throat. The boyfriend comment threw him off. He realized how quiet he had become, and how awkward the conversation was getting. He felt bad about it for a time, but then..
"No. What did you have in mind?"
Victor started picking up on an energy that seemed pretty nervous. His friendly roommate went out on an interesting limb with his question, but the archer followed up on it shortly after.
"I was, just.. thinking the arcade? Something close. Simple."
It wasn't some sort of date. The archer wasn't implying that at all. He just wanted to head out and do something before he had to, work...
The field agent felt like he needed to clarify that, or make something about his question a little more clear.
"It's not.. I plan on having like, a million kids. Later on, down the road. This isn't... uhh."
Wait huh? The archer shut up pretty quickly. Victor's expression changed after his friendly roommate spoke up again. He seemed even more nervous at that point.
Barton looked like he was about to run.
"Are you saying you're straight?"
Victor just cut to the chase. The "million kids down the road" thing was surprising to suddenly hear. The baby Strange took it in as some sort of accidental confession.
He really wasn't sure what his friendly roommate was getting at, but he seemed flustered. The archer's behavior was a bit of a mess.
"I'm not saying anything, like that. It's.."
Awkward city to the max. Victor's eyebrow slowly curved upward. He heard his friendly roommate mention something else about his laundry. He brought up the S.H.I.E.L.D. base again, and several other things.
Victor was following along, but he wasn't understanding what was actually happening in the apartment. His friendly roommate took off on him in that moment.
He took his giant bag of laundry, and left.
