No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 1

Chapter Thirty-Six: When World's Collide (Part 6)

...

"I'm sorry Stephen, I'm not sure that I'm following. You're telling me that some sort of paranormal... supernatural mystical energy thing is messing around with my body?"

"Paranormal is close enough. Yes."

Ok. Christine Palmer swallowed yet again. Stephen was feeding her some heavy and complicated information, so..

"And...why is it doing that?"

"Because its petty, and it hates me."

Everyone in Stephen's circle of people ran the risk of being exploited. Christine Palmer was his ex girlfriend, in a sense, so she was still part of the mix.

No one was safe out there in the wild.

Stephen was trying to fix all of his issues, and speaking to Christine was part of the plan. He kinda had to, so he eventually left the S.H.I.E.L.D. base.

He planned to head home after their discussion. Christine invited him into her office at work. Stephen told her that he'd only be there for a few minutes, and he asked her if she was experiencing any fatigue.

She said that she was, off and on.

Well, that was good to know. He mentioned that, and his tone was friendly. Christine was very aware that something was going on with her body, but she never expected some sort of pregnancy.

The two of them were navigating the situation in a peculiar way. They both were feeling out the subject. More like, dancing around the subject because...

Well...

"This paranormal, supernatural, mystical energy thing is really going after my wife. It likes to torment her, and tear the two of us apart. You're basically being used to accomplish that. So, guess what Christine...you're knocked up."

Surprise.

Stephen tried to make light of it, and Christine reacted unexpectedly. She smacked his shoulder, because Stephen Strange had a habit of being insensitive and rude.

Christine noticed the smile that formed on his face tho, and she immediately thought that he looked handsome. The torture she felt regarding Stephen knew no bounds, so she gently cleared her throat.

"But you said that it's an illusion."

"It is."

"Are you sure?"

Christine held an extremely puzzled look, but it seemed pretty playful. She was behaving that way with him because Stephen was being too vague and cryptic. She wanted to physically twist his arm, but she controlled herself.

"Of course I'm sure. It's an illusion, but you're still going through it."

"Ah. Ok. Got it."

So, he was sure. Christine noted that in her mind and she stared at something toward her left. Her behavior sparked some worry within the Sorcerer Supreme.

Stephen would not entertain the possibility of it actually being his child. If that were the case, he'd be dead. Toast. Divorced. Obliterated both inside and out.

The sorcerer ignored her comment, then he kept thinking it through.

The illusion still had to run its course. Stephen was there making sure Christine was well enough to handle an encounter if something else happened.

Her spirits were up, and she seemed to have control of her body. He took it all in as a good sign, but it could all fall south in an instant.

Christine heard what Stephen said. She closed her eyes for a moment, and she tried to process what she had been hearing. It all sounded crazy, and unreal.

"Does your wife know? Clea? She..."

Christine couldn't help the change in her mood. She felt a little cold when she thought about Stephen's wife.

"She doesn't know, but I plan to talk to her about it. Someone out there obviously wants her to harm you."

"Harm me?"

"Yes. This opens up some deep wounds for the two of us, especially Clea."

It was a personal attack, and extremely fucked up. There were all sorts of manipulative and cruel adversaries out there lurking about when it came down to Clea Strange.

She was the current ruler of the Dark Dimension. Clea probably had more enemies out there than Stephen, but the Sorcerer Supreme didn't keep track.

He was mainly trying to comfort Christine in that moment, and mention that she would be safe at a place called the Sanctum Sanctorum.

The conversation left the woman a bit on edge, because she found Clea Strange to be an intimidating person.

She caught a glimpse of Stephen's wife, and his little girl some time ago. Christine couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the two of them, because they looked very otherworldly.

She wondered if they were phantoms, or somehow magical.

Christine Palmer really had no idea who Clea Strange was, or what Stephen's wife was even capable of.

She did know that she was somehow "supernaturally" carrying Stephen's child, and she was pretty freaked out about a few things.
