No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 1

Chapter 40: When World's Collide (Part 10)

...

"Is it over?"

...

Clea Strange had to know, and she asked Stephen the question right in front of Sofia. Her husband eventually figured out that they left the apartment in Manhattan. Her husband was also made aware that Clea took a trip to something called a "hospital" while he was away.

Christine's "condition" was supposedly an illusion, but Clea was holding onto some unwanted doubt. She had taken their daughter to the Dark Dimension because she couldn't be anywhere near the woman that was named Christine.

The torment wasn't over, it seemed, and Stephen could see that it was affecting his wife and daughter.

He wasn't aware of Clea's behavior, or her decision to leave their home. They were staying with Clea's father, Orini, and it was hurting Stephen's soul. Everything felt like a mess, and the sorcerer understood that it wasn't a quick fix.

He kept looking at Clea, and he noticed that something started moving around beside him. Stephen saw something flowing next to his left arm. Sofia was playing around with the fabric of her dress. The sorcerer figured that the dress was a gift from her grandfather, and it looked beautiful.

"I don't consider this situation over, for any of us."

Stephen felt tormented as well, but he kept that to himself. His torment extended to what was happening with his brother, and now he had to deal with the distance of his wife and daughter.

Clea heard what he said. She glanced over at Sofia's pretty little dress. Sofia innocently asked if her father was "in trouble" when they arrived in the Dark. Clea thought that the question was amusing.

She didn't blame Stephen for what was happening at that point, but she was having a hard time looking at him. Clea gave it a try. She quietly looked at her husband, and it caused a stir.

"I want to end her myself, so it's best that I stay here."

She wanted to end Christine Palmer forever, but Clea Strange wasn't stupid. Her enemies would win the war, and most likely take her dimension out from under her.

She inwardly believed that the cruel illusion had to run its course, so Clea accepted that she had to take yet another hit.

The sorceress didn't wait for Stephen to respond to what was said either. She told Sofia to say goodbye to her father, because he had several situations that needed his full attention. Sofia had heard her mother say things like that before, and she understood that her father was a busy person.

Stephen mentioned staying there with them, but Clea gently told him no. She didn't want to see him, or hear his voice until it was over. She couldn't explain all that in front of their daughter, but Stephen got the hint. The hint broke his soul apart even further.

A deep wound seemed to settle. Stephen glanced down toward his chest as the feeling pulsed about. They were winning, he could feel it. The sorcerer knew that the relationship that he had with Clea Strange was very complicated out there in other dimensions. He already knew that they were separated in half of the realities, or more.

It became a fear of his, and it never seemed very fair. He considered her to be his "Dream Girl", after all.. so.

"I don't want to leave."

Leave and go where? Back to the Sanctorum? The sorcerer didn't want to consider that option at all. Christine Palmer was safe there. He could tell in that moment.

Plus, the issue with his brother was considered to be a work in progress as it was so, no. Stephen stood his ground in that moment, and Clea brought her focus toward the smallest person that was involved in the discussion.

"Would you like to see my room?

Sofia's voice carefully broke into the conversation, and Stephen's face softened up as soon as she spoke.
