No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 1

Chapter 47: By The Way (Part 7)

Clint Barton barely slept, but he woke up early and went through the motions of getting himself ready for his day.

He had a giant pile of clean laundry to go through, but he didn't have that much room to stash his clothes at the S.H.I.E.L.D. base.

He avoided his phone as much as he could, and he took a shower. Barton received an alert while he was drying himself off, and it informed him that he was needed in the training room.

He assumed that Natasha needed a sparring partner. She normally got herself all upset over something. She'd work it out on the training floor with whoever was available.

It was pretty early for a training session, but oh well. The baby archer got himself dressed for the occasion, but he stopped walking right before he got to the door.

He had been processing Victor's message for a long time. What he wrote caused a stir. He chose to put himself down again in the message, and the notion wouldn't settle.

Victor had a habit of insulting himself, and the baby bird hated reading that. He did his best to communicate with Victor while they lived together.

He tried to talk to him any chance he could get. Clint really tried to get to know him, and possibly boost his spirits. Victor's mind was always elsewhere, so that's another reason why the archer was overthinking his response.

He couldn't really leave Victor in the state of talking himself down, so he turned his phone on before he left.

The baby archer re-read the message. He typed out a response, but he thought it over before it was sent.

[Don't be sorry. I'm around if you need something.]

Right? He was around. Sure he was at the S.H.I.E.L.D. base, and everything felt awkward as hell...

The whole apartment thing kinda blew up, and Barton felt very confused about it. Bucky told him some things about Victor while he mindlessly folded his laundry. Clint thought the worst for a moment there.

It seemed like everything worked out for Victor tho, because he supposedly went right back with Ezekiel. Possibly? The thought filled the archer's young mind, so he turned his cellphone off yet again.

He left it on the bed behind him, then he made his way to the training room. Clint pushed the heavy doors open, and he was a bit surprised to see a handful of people in the giant room.

His passive expression slowly reshaped into a sharp stare. Nick Fury was standing beside someone that he didn't expect to see...

Fury was standing beside Ezekiel Stane, and it looked like he was getting ready to train with someone. He wasn't wearing his white armor for once, so..

...

The archer stopped moving. Natasha was there as well, bright and early. He noticed Bucky Barnes up in the ring, and one other fellow.

The other guy was mainly there to facilitate, and the small group was standing around the sparring ring.

They seemed to be waiting for someone. Waiting for him? What for.. The baby archer could tell what was happening almost immediately, and he started clenching his fingers in tight.
