No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 1

Chapter 99: My Sweet Summer (Part 9)

Bucky Barnes was happy to be the person in charge of protecting Howard and Maria Stark. Tony's father gave him his first job after he left the 1930s behind him, and he tagged along with Steve.

That felt like centuries ago. The not-so-winter soldier thought about it as he left the group. The meeting wrapped up after a while, and Bucky started heading toward a pick-up point.

Maria and Howard were being escorted to New York from Nebraska. Before the meeting came to a close, Steve Rogers mentioned that the version of Howard they all knew was the only version of him to actually retire.

Steve was proud of that, and he considered the extra security to be mandatory.

Bucky agreed with him. Howard deserved to retire. I mean, no one deserved to get murdered.

Bucky's thoughts settled on that notion for a while. He understood that the "Winter Soldier" version of himself was normally the person bringing Howard and Maria's life to an end…

There he was, always protecting them. He felt close to Howard.
His son tho? Not so much. Bucky gave a sigh as he went from one S.H.I.E.L.D. location to the next. Howard's son needed attention again, or whatever.

Bucky maintained a mocking tone in his head as he thought it over. Tony's existence still bothered him, or baffled him. Bucky wasn't sure which word fit the feeling.

Either way, Steve's Bambi-eyed lover had spent a couple months putting together some sort of show. It was in connection with the Stark Expo, and Bucky had been asking him about it, off and on.

That felt like centuries ago too and Tony never really gave him a straight answer about it. Naturally, because Stark was always a f.u.c.k.i.n.g. tease.

Bucky removed the thought from his mind. He had to, and the not so-winter soldier eventually approached Howard and Maria Stark.

He said hello, and the three of them started talking right away.
