Aoba sat at a table with Asuma and leaned back fixing his red sunglasses. It was going to be rather peaceful and calm in the developing city. He removed his sunglasses and cleaned them as he looked over at his friend, "So how are things with Kurenai going?"
"Things are going very well," Asuma replied with a nod of his head. "I mean they are going as well as they can for two people who are busy with their own genin teams. So, we are just taking things one step at a time really. However I can say for sure that she's been really supportive, and helpful. We really do understand each other well. How about you, Aoba? Any special someone in your life?"
"Oh, no one right now, too much work, making sure these kids of mine find their paths in life," Aoba replied thinking about it all for a moment. "However, maybe if I find the right one, it will be worth it. Just haven't found her yet, so till then I will keep happily focusing on my team, and making sure they are ready to be the next generation of Konoha."
Asuma nodded in understanding. "Having these kids to prepare is a challenge, but an important one for us. Plus, It's rewarding seeing them grow and know that you have helped them in the process. Speaking of which, I think your team did really well today. Kaza especially seems to be coming into his own."
"Thanks," Aoba replied, his tone filled with pride. "They've all been working hard. Kaza's got a lot of potential, and with a little more confidence, I think he'll really shine. Ace and Sakura are great, too. They make a strong team."
The two jonin sat in comfortable silence for a moment, enjoying the peaceful evening. The sounds of the developing city and the gentle waves from the beach added to the serene atmosphere.
"So," Asuma said after a while, "what's the plan for Today? More training, or are you giving them some time to relax and explore?"
"A bit of both," Aoba answered. "They deserve a break after today, but we'll also keep an eye out for any signs of trouble. Can't let our guard down completely. Plus, exploring the area will give them a chance to bond and develop their teamwork further."
Asuma nodded in agreement. "Sounds like a solid plan. I'll make sure Team Asuma is ready to assist if needed. But for now, let's just enjoy the calm while it lasts."
"From what I heard, Shikamaru and Kaza are going to play go against each other this morning, Choji and Ace are having a eating contest of who can eat the most fruit, and Ino and Sakura are having a bit of girl talk," Aoba said with a shake of his head, "remember when we were that young back in the day."
Asuma chuckled, a nostalgic look crossing his face. "Yeah, I remember. Seems like just yesterday we were those kids, getting into all sorts of mischief and finding ways to challenge each other."
Aoba grinned. "Those were the days. Simpler times, in a way. It's good to see them bonding and having fun, though. It's important for their growth as a team."
"Yeah it is," Asuma nodded in agreement, "These moments are important for them. They need to make friendships, grow closer, and even potentially fall in love. It will do them good in the long run. They need to be kids who can just enjoy life from time to time."
Aoba nodded, looking thoughtful. "Yeah. Life as a ninja can be tough, and they need these moments of normalcy. I think it's good for their mental health and resilience. Besides, watching Shikamaru and Kaza play go should be interesting. Those two have some sharp minds."
Asuma smiled, his eyes glinting with pride. "No doubt. Shikamaru loves a good challenge, and from what I've seen, Kaza is no slouch either. It'll be a good match."
Aoba's grin widened. "And I can't wait to see the eating contest. Choji and Ace are both formidable eaters. Should be quite the spectacle."
"That's for sure," Asuma laughed. "And Ino and Sakura having a girl talk... Well, that's important too. They need to build their own support systems and friendships."
"It is nice that those two can be friends again. From what I have heard that hadn't been the case for a while," Aoba said as he got up. "I think I am going to go check out this game and see where it is going between our two resident smart kids."
Asuma nodded, standing up as well. "Sounds like a plan. I might go check on the eating contest. Make sure they don't overdo it and end up regretting it later."
The two jonin shared a chuckle before parting ways. Aoba made his way to the spot where Shikamaru and Kaza were setting up their Go board. He found them under the shade of a large tree, the board placed between them on a flat rock. Shikamaru was leaning back, a lazy but focused expression on his face, while Kaza was setting up the pieces with meticulous care.
"Hey, you two," Aoba greeted as he approached. "Mind if I watch?"
"Not at all," Shikamaru replied, glancing up. "Just don't distract us too much, sensei."
Kaza smiled nervously, but nodded. "Yeah, this is going to be our 4th match. Shikamaru is really good. This is also my first time playing, but I did take a round."
Aoba settled down on a nearby rock, watching the two young ninjas. "Really, that is surprising, good job Kaza. This should be interesting."
Meanwhile, Asuma made his way to the beach where Choji and Ace were gearing up for their eating contest. A small crowd of villagers and workers had gathered, curious about the spectacle. Choji was stretching, preparing his stomach for the challenge ahead, while Ace was confidently examining the piles of tropical fruit laid out before them.
"Alright, everyone," Asuma called out as he approached. "Let's keep this friendly. No pushing yourselves too hard."
Choji grinned at his sensei. "Don't worry, Asuma-sensei. We've got this."
Ace nodded, giving Choji a friendly pat on the back. "May the best eater win."
As the contest started, Asuma could see the energy that both of them were throwing into this. He knew that he told them to take it easy, but he had a feeling they were both going to do their best no matter what. That the competitive spirit between the two would help and would create a new friendship between the pair.
At the same time, back at the Inn, Ino and Sakura were sitting together on a bench laughing and chatting about a number of things. The animosity that had been ever present for years was gone. There was a change in the dynamics, they both were strong growing kunoichi. There was still a natural rivalry between them, but things were different as they were not having a silly fight over Sasuke. They were just talking like the old days, as friends.
"This is really nice, Sakura, I have to admit," Ino paused, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "I missed having you as a friend, Sakura."
Sakura nodded, her eyes softening. "I missed it too, Ino. We've both grown a lot, and it's good to reconnect. However I want to hear the details of how things are with you. You were sure were surprised when you figured out Kaza had a crush on you."
"I will be honest, I underestimated that one till I was his teammate as well as Ace, they are the best," Sakura added after a moment, "That said even I knew he had a crush on you. It was as obvious as Hinata's crush on Naruto. I honestly think you're good for him, Ino. You bring him out of his shell a lot, when you're around him. Then again he I think might help you too. I know both of them have helped me find myself and gave me hope I could be a good solid ninja."
Ino laughed softly, her expression thoughtful. "Yeah, I can see that. Kaza is... well, he's different from anyone I've known. He's genuine and kind, even if he can be a little awkward. And you're right, he does bring out a different side of me. Makes me want to be better, you know?"
Sakura nodded, a warm smile on her face. "I know exactly what you mean. And it's good to see you two getting along. Sometimes the best relationships start with a friendship and maybe more."
Ino's eyes sparkled with a mix of curiosity and excitement. "So, what's it like being on a team with those two? It must be quite an experience."
Sakura chuckled. "It's definitely been interesting. They are so different from each other. There is Ace, who is so confident, charismatic, cool and ready to take on any challenge. The last part I think is within Kaza too. He is just far more reserved and quiet. He is also very clever too, and in tense situations he really keeps his cool well. They are both super important to me, and Aoba too, he is such a good teacher. They are like this new family I have been given, and I treasure them."
Ino smiled, feeling a sense of warmth at Sakura's words. "That sounds really nice. Maybe Kaza and I can find our own balance too."
"Let's go find the genius pair," Sakura said as she helped Ino, "By the way Ace asked me out on a double date with you and Kaza when we get back," Sakura let slip.
Ino's eyes widened in surprise and delight. "Really? That sounds like fun! A double date could be a lot of fun. To get to spend time with you, and Kaza sounds really great."
"That means that you're going to be going on a date with Ace, that is interesting," Ino said as she looked over at her.
Sakura smiled, "Yeah, I guess you're not the only one whose interests are starting the change. Anyhow, I think it'll be great. Let's go see how Kaza and Shikamaru are doing with their game."
The two kunoichi made their way to the spot where Shikamaru and Kaza were playing Go, chatting and laughing along the way. When they arrived, they found Aoba watching intently as the boys concentrated on their moves.
"Hey, you two!" Sakura called out, waving.
Shikamaru looked up with his usual lazy smile. "Hey, Sakura, Ino. Come to watch us?"
"Of course," Ino said, her eyes flicking to Kaza with a soft smile. "How's the game going?"
Kaza looked up, his face lighting up at the sight of Ino. "It's going well. Shikamaru is really good, but I'm learning a lot."
"That's great," Ino said encouragingly, taking a seat next to Kaza. "I bet you'll be a Go master in no time."
Shikamaru chuckled. "He's already giving me a run for my money. He's got a sharp mind."
Aoba smiled, pleased to see the camaraderie among the young ninjas. "It's good to see you all getting along and challenging each other. That's how you'll grow stronger."
As this last game came to an end Kaza smiled as he managed to do just enough to win the match. He felt really proud of himself, as he won the game that mattered the most because Ino was there to see it happen."Good game Shikamaru, that was fun."
"You really are a troublesome opponent, but yeah it was a lot of fun," Shikamaru said as he was caught off guard by Kaza's ability to predict and adapt on the fly.
"That was impressive, Kaza, you don't see someone beat Shikamaru in stuff like this ever," Ino said with a pat on his back. "Seems you have more work to do, Shikamaru."
Aoba nodded, understanding Sakura's intention. "Sure thing, Sakura. Shikamaru, let's give them some space."
Shikamaru stretched lazily as he stood up. "Yeah, alright. Let's see how the eating contest is going."
As they walked away, Kaza felt a surge of nervousness mixed with excitement. He glanced at Ino, who was smiling warmly at him.
"So, Kaza," Ino began, her voice soft, "I wanted to thank you again for what you said back on the trail. It really meant a lot to me."
Kaza rubbed the back of his neck, feeling a bit shy. "I'm glad, Ino. I have always and will always believe in you. You are such an amazing, cool, and special ninja. I know that when you put your mind to it, you can do literally anything."
Ino blushed slightly, her eyes twinkling. "Thanks, Kaza. That is super sweet of you, but don't sell yourself short, you are really awesome yourself.. You're always so brave, but also thoughtful and strategic."
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, both feeling a sense of connection and understanding. Ino broke the silence, her tone playful. "So, any plans for the rest of the day?"
Kaza thought for a moment. "Well, we could explore more of the town, or maybe find a nice spot on the beach to relax. What do you think?"
Ino smiled brightly. "The beach sounds perfect. Let's go."
As the pair headed to the beach, they could see Choji and Ace sitting at a table as there were plates with the peals of countless tropical fruits all around the pair of them. It wasn't the normal contest for eating but both looked content and rather full too.
"Looks like you two had quite the feast," Kaza called out, grinning at his friends.
Choji groaned good-naturedly. "Yeah, but I think Ace won this one. I couldn't eat another bite."
Ace, looking equally satisfied and stuffed, gave a thumbs-up. "Barely. You put up a good fight, Choji."
Ino and Kaza nodded before they continued on their trek to the beach. They found a nice quiet spot where they could watch the waves and sit and relax. The pair sat down on the white sand next to each other. Each of them took in the quiet and peace of the moment as they sat there.
"It is really nice here, I think the town will be a perfect vacation resort when it is finished," Ino said as he took a deep breath, "This is the type of place one just could bask away at."
Kaza nodded, feeling a sense of tranquility. "Yeah, these are really great moments, ones you wish never came to an end.."
Ino turned to him, her expression thoughtful. "You know, Kaza, I've been thinking a lot about what you said. About focusing more on my training and becoming the best kunoichi I can be. I want to thank you for that. You really opened my eyes."
Kaza smiled, feeling a warm sense of pride. "I'm glad I could help, Ino. I believe in you, and I know you can achieve great things."
Ino leaned in closer, her eyes meeting his. "And I believe in you too, Kaza. You're stronger and more amazing than you realize."
Their moment was interrupted by the sound of laughter and chatter as the rest of their friends arrived on the beach, having finished their respective activities.
"Hey, you two!" Sakura called out, waving. "Mind if we join you?"
"Not at all," Kaza said as he slipped an arm carefully around Ino pulling her closer to himself. "Then let me make you a promise, no matter what, I Kaza Togusa will stay by your side Ino Yamanaka, and make sure you become the best kunoichi ever," he declared before he quickly and for him insanely boldly gave her a quick peek on the lips.
Ino was very much taken aback by the kiss. Her cheeks turned red as she looked at the brown haired youngster. Her heart fluttered as she knew very well that he cared for her deeply, and she started to care for him as deeply. She leaned back pressing her fingers along his chin as she returned the kiss with her own quick little kiss.
Kaza's eyes widened in shock, his heart sang out with joy and happiness as it skipped a beat. He was on cloud nine at that moment. Ino Yamanaka, the girl of his dreams, gave him a kiss.
"Thank you, Kaza, for everything challenging me, supporting me, and believing in me. I want you to know something," she said softly, her voice filled with warmth. "I believe in you too. I will do everything I can to help you in any way I can."
Their friends were surprised that it happened then. Yet there was an understanding that this was going to happen at some point. Shikamaru raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. Choji and Ace exchanged knowing glances, both grinning widely.
"Well, well," Ace said, teasingly. "Looks like someone's finally made a move."
"About time," Choji added with a laugh. "You two make a great team."
Kaza blushed, feeling a mix of embarrassment and pride. He kept his arm around Ino, feeling more confident than ever.
"Thanks, everyone," he said, his voice steady. "I just... I had to let her know how I feel."
Ino leaned into Kaza, feeling a sense of security and happiness she hadn't felt in a long time. "And I'm glad you did."
"It seems that those two remind me of you and Kurenai back in the day, Asuma," Aoba commented, looking at the group a good bit away from them. "Well, when we get back I am going to have mine start to really train for the chunin exams. I figure your team is entering too.
Asuma chuckled, a nostalgic smile spreading across his face as he looked at the group from a distance. "Yeah, they do remind me of those days. Young love and all the excitement that comes with it."
Aoba nodded, then turned his attention back to Asuma. "Well, when we get back, I plan to have my team start intense training for the chunin exams. I figure your team is entering too."
"Of course they are," Asuma said as he took a drag from his cigarette pausing for a moment, before exhaling, "They are really good, they handled those bandits no problem, and now that Ino has been working hard, she has been pushing Shikamaru and Choji to work harder than before too. I think they have what it takes to maybe even when it."
Aoba grinned. "Same here. Ace, Kaza, and Sakura have come a long way. I'm excited to see how they'll perform. I believe each has a good chance to advance. Yet it is best to remember that these exams are always a great opportunity for growth."
"Agreed," Asuma replied, nodding thoughtfully. "Yeah, true, they need to be tested and these exams are always a good test to see how ready a team is for the future. That said I believe they will all advance if not here but at a future exam."
"Yeah, they are the future, Asuma," Aoba said as he looked at them having fun together a bit off. "I believe the strong bonds they have will serve them well. I think this mission has really been a great benefit for them, getting to know other teams and making friends. That is what makes the hard times worth it."
Asuma nodded, his eyes reflecting a mix of pride and concern. "Yeah. They'll need to rely on each other more than ever during the exams. But I have faith in them. They've got the potential to become great shinobi."
Aoba clapped Asuma on the shoulder. "Here's to their success and growth. And to us, for guiding them along the way."
Asuma smiled, lifting his cup in a toast. "To their future. And to the journey ahead."
