Sootkit and rosekit were tussling like normal, then their mother, cherrypool, gathered them with her tail, cherrypool was staring at a rouge, she was afraid of the rouge stealing rosekit and sootkit from her, waspstar looked at the rouge then at cherrypool, sootkit, and rosekit, waspstar snorted, and padded to the rouge, "yes, sprite?" waspstar meowed, cherrypool relaxed, she acknowledged sprite with a curt nod, sprite nodded back and cherrypool let sootkit and rosekit run off, their sister, emberkit raced after them. The three kits looked up at the rouge "who are you?" emberkit asked, confused "hello, little one" sprite meowed "my names sprite, what's yours?" "emberkit!" emberkit squeaked "and you two?" sprite turned his gaze to rosekit and sootkit "sootkit" sootkit mewed "her names rosekit" meowed cherrypool padding toward sprite "ah! Cherrypool! How are you?" sprite meowed "good." cherrypool meowed "wonderful! Now the reason I was here to talk to waspstar" sprite grumbled "do you need something, sprite?" the medicine cat, bumblestride asked "yes, I need to talk to waspstar" sprite meowed "alright, follow me" bumblestride meowed sprite and bumblestride padded off towards waspstar's den sprite poked her head in waspstar's den "waspstar I need to talk to you" sprite meowed "what is it?" waspstar asked, his weight shifted to a sitting postion "i saw a fox near your territory, it was still a cub, i didnt see the mom anywhere" sprite hissed "i'll send out a patrol" waspstar promised "alright" sprite meowed, sprite turned and padded out the camp entrance, it was a moon before sootkit, rosekit and emberkit were made apprentices, emberkit had a special interest in herbs, bumblestride saw that, so she asked waspstar to make emberkit her apprentice at moon high, waspstar nodded and then at sun high waspstar jumped on the highrock "all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather under the highrock!" he yowled emberkit ran toward bumblestride, while her sisters ran toward the rock "do you promise to keep your mentors out of trouble by handling you?" Waspstar purred, a chuckle rising in his throat, sprite settled down near cherrypool, who watched her kits with fond eyes "I do" rosekit and sootkit meowed "good, I now know that you are ready for your apprentice names, sootpaw and rosepaw!" He yowled, the clan cheered their names "sootpaw! rosepaw! sootpaw! rosepaw!" The clan yowled "wait!" Dawnflower rasped "who will be their mentors?" she asked, staring at the highrock "dont worry, ill get to that soon, dawnflower." He meowed "sootpaw, your mentor will be charredwhisker. Rosepaw, your mentor will be fernwhisker. Clan dismissed!" He yowled, the clan scattered, sootpaw and rosepaw went to their mentors and touched noses with them. A patrol burst in yowling about the fox brightheart was among the patrol, looking for cloudtail, sootpaw, rosepaw, and her kits, cloudtail raced toward her, relieved that she was okay, sootpaw and rosepaw raced foward "we need all the warriors and apprentices we can get!" brightheart meowed, frantic. "we saw more of them! and if we cant deal with them now, we might die!" brightheart yowled, not paying attention to the attention she was drawing to herself bumblestripe poked her head out of the medicine den and called sootpaw over, sootpaw raced over, her sister, rosepaw, followed more silently, "whats all the racket about, sootpaw?" bumblestride meowed "its about foxes" sootpaw informed her "foxes!" bumblestripe repeated "those crowfood eaters are back?!" bumblestride padded over, sootpaw and rosepaw in tow. emberpaw, their sister, poked her head out of the medicine den, and padded out, dawnflower padded slowly after her, hissing in pain. emberpaw slowed her pace to pad next to dawnflower, who in result leaned on emberpaws shoulder. sootpaw and rosepaw snuck out to find the foxes on their own, sootpaw came back with a missing fourth leg an hour later "rosepaw's dead!" she wailed, upset that she went along with rosepaw's plan, cherrypool's eyes widened "MY KIT!" she wailed, waspstar padded to her side, allowing her to lean on him.
