Chapter 17: Sacrifice:
Michi's POV:
"The girl in the phoTtograph," says Prudence, "the girl who looks exactly like me. She's dead. EaTten alive by the mermaids."
"Maybe she's finding someone to be with her in the afterlife," I said, "just like the girl who committed lover's suicide a long time ago."
"But thee is no lake anymoe," says Prudence.
"I'll kiss the photograph," I said.
"What," asks Prudence.
"I'm sure she's waiting somewhere," I said, "somewhere that's not a lake. To know where she is, I'll inflict the curse to myself."
"What are you saying," asks Prudence.
"If I don't save her, the girls who'll get cursed won't stop." I then grabbed her hands. "Promise me... You'll come and save me no matter what. And so... You'll be the one who'll free me from the curse."

We were in my room. I held up the photograph and then I kissed it at exactly midnight.

We were then in bed together, with our hands tied together...
