GerTai: Silver for Sale
Mei drummed her fingers as she waited for the shopkeeper to assess the worth of her jewellery. She stared at the silver in front of her, wondering how she even had that much to begin with. There were a few things that she barely even wore. And one ring that she was actually sad to get rid of.
"Are you in some sort of trouble?" the shopkeeper asked.
"Pardon?" Mei asked.
"It's just… whenever a lady sells her jewellery, it's usually a sign of financial trouble. This is all your jewellery, right?"
"Yes," Mei said, her temper flaring briefly. "But there's no trouble. My boyfriend is allergic to silver, and I don't want to accidentally irritate him just because I forgot I was wearing silver earrings when I hug him or something."
"…A silver allergy?"
"Yes. He's really sensitive."
"…Well, perhaps you shouldn't sell everything. I know you might think it's true love, but… Things can always go sour. Is there anything in particular that you might want to keep?"
Mei huffed. She made a mental note not to come back to this pawn shop again. But she still took back the one ring among them that she wanted to keep.
In the end, she managed to get good money for her jewellery. And she used some of the money to buy a gift for Ludwig.
…
Mei smiled when there was a knock on her door. She knew that it was Ludwig, even without looking at the time. He just had a certain way of knocking.
She glanced out at the crescent moon. It would be safe for them, and they wouldn't have to worry about keeping an eye on the time. It was the perfect night. She rushed to the door and opened it, smiling at Ludwig.
"Come on in," she said. "I got you something."
Ludwig arched his eyebrow as he entered, and Mei went to the table, where the gift she'd bought earlier was. His eyes widened when she handed it to him.
"A recipe book?" he questioned.
"It's full of cake recipes," Mei explained. "Since you like baking cakes, I thought you'd like more choices."
Ludwig smiled and pecked her on the cheek.
"Thank you," he said.
Mei smiled and hugged him. She was glad that this time, she didn't forget about silver earrings. That had been how Mei found out about Ludwig being a werewolf, and a source of guilt for her. She never wanted to hurt him. He'd been hurt by enough people.
The prompt is: 'A girl is selling all of her silver jewellery so she can safely be around and touch her werewolf boyfriend.'
Regarding Mystery of Vargas Manor… I've been really busy, but if all goes well, I should be able to post the first chapter this Friday. Thank you for your patience, and sorry it took so long.
