Title: Big Trouble at Sodor High, Part 1

It was a new day on the Island of Sodor. Almost two months (it was now a few days into May) ever since the events of the big San Francisco Duel Monsters tournament in the United States of America was won by a resident of the island, particularly its capital of Knapford City. That boy was 15-year old Thomas Billinton. Thomas had short bright blue-hair, and wore a black sleeveless shirt, blue trousers with a belt, a blue blazer jacket over the shirt, and black sneakers. He was easily the best duelist on the Island of Sodor, owning what many would say the rarest of the starter sets—his ace card being 'Dark Magician'.

One warm May morning, he, his best friend Percy Avonside, and very good friend (and love interest) Emily Stirling, were walking down the street heading for school. Percy was a 15-year old boy with short light green-hair, and was wearing a white t-shirt with a big green stripe in the center, underneath the same male uniform as Thomas, and green sneakers. Emily was a beautiful 15-year old girl with long, dark green hair (almost emerald in color) with a yellow bow on the back of her head, and a surprisingly well-developed figure for someone her age. Her current outfit was the Sodor High School female uniform consisting of a navy blazer similar to the male uniform, a white blouse, gray skirt and black leggings, and blue tennis shoes. Like Thomas, both Percy and Emily were duelists. However, Percy was somewhat more experienced than Emily was—and more inexperienced compared to Thomas. Emily, meanwhile, was still a fairly good duelist. Being the owner of a special card created by Discord J. Crawford helped with that.

"Yawn! Another day, another bunch of school work," sighed Percy, yawning in a sarcastic way.

"Nevermind," reassured Thomas, "At least we also get to spend time with our friends."

"Not to mention after this month, as well as a few weeks of June, we'll reach summer," Emily added, thinking about her upcoming 16th Birthday, "I'll be turning 16 in early July."

Percy was just about to reply back about Emily's Birthday when stood and sniffed the air and got a whiff of a familiar scent.

"Do you two smell smoke?" pondered Percy.

"Yeah," agreed Thomas, also sniffing the air, "It smells almost like there's…"

"Fire!" gasped Emily.

The thick black smoke was coming from somewhere along a wide clearing—but also in the direction of one of farmer Terence's barns.

"I think it's coming from one of the barns that way!" Thomas exclaimed, leading the way, "Come on! We should go and help out!"

The three friends raced over to help with the fire.

(elsewhere…)

Over at the barn, the fire was practically a five-alarm blaze. Various people and farmers were passing and throwing buckets of water at the fire, hoping to contain the flames.

"Come on, come on!" One farm-hand named Trevor yelled out, "We have to stop this fire from spreading!"

The three students from Sodor High School raced in to help.

"Just in time, you three!" cried Trevor, "Grab a bucket of water and help douse the fire before it spreads!"

Thomas, Percy, and Emily each didn't waste a single second and they began to help try to keep the fire under control.

"Good to see you kids," said Terence in relief, "Now let's keep this fire from spreading!"

Despite the three Tidmouth Teens' assistance, the fire continued to get bigger and bigger, soon to wipe out the whole barn.

"It's no use!" panicked Farm-Hand 1, "The fire is too hot!"

"We can't give up!" rebutted Trevor, "We'll lose everything if we don't stop it!"

Just when all seemed lost, everyone heard the sounds of sirens, a horn, and a bell in the distance. Then, from the smoke came three, big, red fire engines. They stopped just outside the barn.

"It's the fire department!" Farm-Hand 2 rejoiced.

Two firefighters quickly stepped out of one engine. One was a young woman, who was no less than 33-years old, she had dark hair pulled into a ponytail and was dressed in blue. Her name was Belle Brighton. The other was a young man, who looked to be in his mid forties (45 to be exact), he had dark hair and was dressed in red. His name was Flynn Oshkosh, leader of his team.

"Have no fear! The firefighters are here!" declared Belle bravely.

"Stand back everybody! We'll handle this!" added Flynn.

The crowd stepped away from the fire engines. They were very relieved to see the firefighters arrive on the scene. The rest of the firemen quickly got out their fire hoses. Quickly, they connected them to their fire engines. In no time at all, water shot out of the hoses, and the firefighters began to battle the flames. It took a few more minutes, but at last the fire was out.

"The fire is out!" sighed Terence, relieved.

Everybody cheered for the brave firefighters. Speaking of firefighters, Flynn was wondering how the fire even started in the first place.

"What happened?" questioned Flynn, eyeing the burnt building, "How did the fire even start?"

Everyone murmured to each other until one person stepped forth.

"It was me," admitted Harm-Hand 3, before a thought bubble formed above him as he described what happened, "I was having a smoke break when I was caught by someone, causing my cigarette to drop. As I went back to work, I didn't see the fire begin."

The bubble popped, and Terence was very cross to learn all of that.

"You should be ashamed of yourself!" he scolded, "We all were very lucky we didn't lose any of our handwork inside the barn."

"I know, sir," agreed Harm-Hand 3, feeling ashamed, "As of now, I'm gonna quit smoking."

"That's a good call," smiled Belle, "Smoking is bad for your health anyway."

Terence then turned his attention to Thomas, Emily, and Percy, with his mood lightening up considerably.

"Thanks for trying to help, kids," beamed Terence.

"It was nothing," stated Percy bashfully.

It was then Flynn and Belle both recognized the three teenagers—especially Thomas and Percy.

"Wait, aren't you two Thomas and Percy?" recalled Flynn, as Thomas and Percy looked over, "The latter a runner up in the San Francisco tournament, and the former the winner of the said tournament?"

"That's us," confirmed Thomas.

"My goodness!" cried Belle, overjoyed, "All three of my kids have been big fans of you both since that tournament!" She held out a small notepad and pen, "I was wondering if I could get both of your autographs? This would make my kids so happy."

"Sure," grinned Thomas, as he took the pad, "Who am I addressing this to?"

"Gumball, Darwin, and Anais," answered Belle.

Percy was thinking, "Gumball, Darwin, and Anais?" he told himself, mentally, "Where have I heard those names before?"

"Eh? Are you okay, Percy?" Emily pressed, breaking through Percy's thoughts.

"O-Oh, nothing," Percy replied, waving his hands, "It's nothing important."

Once Thomas wrote a little something on the pad, he handed it back to Belle, who then got Percy to sign something too. Once that was done, Flynn spoke up again.

"Either way, we're very proud how you three, despite you not needing to help, rushed in to help try to put the fire out," he admired.

"Thank you," bowed Emily politely.

"You three must be now late for school," realized Flynn, "Why don't we take you three up to Sodor High? Don't worry, the drive is on the house."

"Sure, we'd like that very much," agreed Thomas.

Terence then spoke to the three Tidmouth Teens one last time.

"Thanks again for your help," nodded Terence, still very pleased, "If you ever need any fresh eggs or honey, just come on down."

"We'll definitely come down here," Percy nodded, just before he zoomed over in an instant, "Could I take a sample of your freshly made honey to go, please?"

Everyone shared a laugh over how silly Percy was behaving.

(elsewhere…)

Ten minutes later, the fire truck pulled into the schoolyard of Sodor High School.

(inside…)

"Well, here we are," Flynn announced, looking at Thomas, Percy, and Emily, "Now just lead me to your principal, and I'll make sure you three don't get into trouble for being late."

"Sure thing," accepted Thomas, as he and his friends began stepping out of the truck.

(elsewhere…)

Inside the school, the bell had rung to have everyone start moving to their next period classes. Sir Topham Hatt in the lobby talking to someone when he overheard the front doors opening. When he saw Thomas, Percy, and Emily walking inside, he became cross with them.

"Where in the world have you three been?" demanded Sir Topham Hatt, "You're late and missed your first period classes!"

"That's because they were helping fight a fire," The voice of Flynn cut in, getting Sir Topham Hatt's attention. He walked up to the principal, "Please don't be upset with them, they did a very good thing."

"Ah, you must be the fire chief, Mr. Oshkosh," Sir Topham Hatt exclaimed, fixing his tie while walking over.

"Yes, I am," mused Flynn, shaking Sir Topham Hatt's hand.

"Welcome to Sodor High!" Sir Topham Hatt greeted, before finally speaking to the three late students about something he overheard, "Oh, and did I hear that these three kids helped put out a big fire?"

"They did," replied Flynn, briefly looking at Thomas, Percy, and Emily before looking back at Sir Topham Hatt, "If you ask me, these kids shouldn't be in trouble for being late if they risked their lives to help others."

"An interesting point," Sir Topham Hatt accepted, before addressing the three students, "Thomas, Emily, Percy, please accept my apologies."

"Hey, you didn't know," reassured Percy, as he started to leave, "Well, I'm off to my next class. I'll see you guys later."

"See you at lunch," waved Emily.

Thomas merely nodded. With that said, they each went their separate ways.

(outside…)

Later on in his fourth period class, Thomas was outside near the track and field—well, field, wearing his blue track suit and warming up for gym class when Rosie Vulcan approached him. Rosie was a 15-year old girl with shoulder-length pink hair. She was wearing her gym clothes of a white t-shirt, black shorts, and pink sneakers.

"Hi, Thomas," she waved, speaking with a voice similar to Emily's but higher pitched.

"Hi, Rosie," Thomas said right back.

"We didn't see you in Math class today. Why were you late for school today?" wondered Rosie.

Thomas told Rosie about the fire.

"Wow, you got to help put out a fire?" admired Rosie, "I totally think that's so amazing!"

At that moment, Duck came up. Duck was a 15-year old boy with short western green-hair. He wore a black and green tracksuit, but also a necklace of a sort around his neck.

"Thomas, Rosie, hurry over!" exclaimed Duck, "The teacher is about to begin class!"

"We're coming," reassured Thomas. Suddenly he (Thomas) noticed something around Duck's neck, "Say, Duck, what's that thing around your neck?"

"Oh, you mean this?" inquired Duck, as he gestured to the necklace around his neck, "This is something I got from my Father many years ago."

"Could you tell us a bit about it?" suggested Rosie.

Duck was about to answer when he and the other two teenagers heard a whistle being blown.

"I'm afraid it will have to wait," declined Duck, turning around, "Come on!"

The three friends raced off to their next class. Later on, it was lunch time, and in the cafeteria, Thomas, Emily, and Percy were enjoying their lunch with the rest of their friends:
-Edward Stewart, age 17, had blue hair, wore a blue shirt with the number 2 on front under his blazer, and also had glasses.
-Gordon Gresley, age 18, had blue hair, wore a blue shirt with the number four on the front under his blazer, and looked fairly muscular on the upper body.
-James Hughes, age 16, had slick red hair, wore a red sleeveless shirt with the number five under his blazer.
-Henry Stanier, age 18, had long light green hair tied back in a low ponytail, and wore a green shirt with the number three under his blazer.
-Toby Holden, age 17, had brown hair, wore a gray flat cap on his head, and wore a brown shirt with a blue number seven on front under his blazer.

"So, you three actually fought a fire?" James beamed in amazement, "Awesome!"

"But it was still very dangerous of you," berated Gordon, "You could've gotten badly hurt."

"They needed help!" protested Percy, "You think we should have just ignored them and worried more about school?"

"No, of course not!"

Just before the argument could continue, a voice (female) spoke up near the table.

"Um, Thomas?" The voice of Rosie echoed, causing Thomas to turn and face her, "Hi."

"Hello to you, Rosie. What's up?" smiled Thomas.

"I was wondering if you were busy tonight?" pressed Rosie hopefully.

"Unfortunately, no," denied Thomas, shaking his head, "I've got homework to do, and then I have to help my sisters and parents with the annual spring cleaning around the house," He looked dismayed at having to do housework, "That work will probably take us the whole week to do."

"Oh, okay," mumbled Rosie, looking disappointed, "Never mind I said anything."

With that said, she sadly walked away towards a free table.

"You alright, Thomas?" Emily quizzed, seeing the disappointed look on Thomas's face.

"I feel a little bad for turning her down," sighed Thomas, feeling sorry for Rosie, "I wish I didn't have all that work to do."

"Perhaps you might have a slight thing for Rosie after all," suggested Edward.

Hearing that statement made a slight look of anger and jealousy appear on Emily's face, but Thomas managed to speak up before Emily managed to—and it likely wouldn't have been pretty coming from her.

"Of course not, Edward. You know I'm not ready for a girlfriend yet," reminded Thomas.

"More like too afraid to get one," snickered James.

"That's enough out of you, James!" Emily snapped, getting into James's face angrily, "You will leave Thomas and his love life alone! That is, unless you want me to hand you your miserable hide in another duel!"

James immediately backed off, whimpering all the way like a puppy dog.

"Ha! Wimp!" mocked Gordon.

Over to another table nearby, where Rosie was sitting, she was eating lunch all by herself, quietly and sadly—while watching from a distance was Diesel Horwich. He was a 16-year old, black-haired boy wearing a black shirt with a skull stitched on the front under his uniform, and green sneakers. Diesel had a devious plan to get even with not only Thomas and Emily, but Rosie, too, ever since she (Rosie) lost to Emily, and Diesel's money making scheme blew up in his face. With his plan formed, Diesel walked over to speak to her.

"Hello, Rosie," greeted Diesel.

"Oh, hello, Diesel," Rosie responded back, despite not knowing Diesel all the well, "How are you?"

"I'm fine, but what I want to know is if something is troubling you?" Diesel frowned, pretending not to know why Rosie seemed upset, "C'mon, why don't you tell me what's on your mind?"

"Well, I really wanted to spend time with Thomas this weekend," confessed Rosie, "But he's too busy for me."

"Oh my!" gasped Diesel, doing it with false shock, "I'm so sorry to hear that!"

It was then Mavis Drewry, a 17-year old girl with shoulder-length blonde-hair, walked over. She was not happy to see Diesel at all. Especially after what he nearly did to her at the start of the San Francisco tournament.

"Go away, Diesel," she threatened, "Don't you dare try toying with Rosie's mind so you can use her for your schemes."

"Oh, come now, that hurts!" grunted Diesel, pretending to feel insulted, "How could you ever say such a thing like that? Aren't we friends here?"

In a fit of anger, Mavis grabbed Diesel by the collar of his shirt and pulled him closer to her, so that they were seeing eye-to-eye. She was taking no nonsense from Diesel, and wanted to make it perfectly clear.

"I'm warning you only once," warned Mavis acidly, "If you try anything that would harm ANY of my friends again, I will make you regret it!"

"Y-Yes, ma'am," whimpered Diesel, noticing the anger in Mavis's eyes, "I'll do whatever you say."

Satisfied to see Diesel expressing fear of her, Mavis let him go.

"Don't be listening to anything Diesel has to say, Rosie," she requested, as Diesel fled, "He's not the most reliable person to get to know."

"I'll try to remember that, Mavis," accepted Rosie, before getting an idea, "Do you want to sit with me?"

"Sure."

And Mavis joined Rosie at the table for lunch. Unfortunately, despite being warned to never try anything towards Mavis's friends, Diesel wasn't about to give up trying to get Rosie to trust him.

(elsewhere…)

Later that day, after the bell had rung for the end of the school day, Diesel saw Rosie in the library working on a project and decided to try talking to her again.

"You don't really believe what Mavis said, do you?" he asked innocently.

"I've heard about what you did to her a few months ago," countered Rosie, getting an angry look on her face.

"What did I do?" wondered Diesel, faking innocence.

"You sneaked into the San Francisco Tournament with your two best friends, kidnapped Mavis, harmed her to the point she had to be hospitalized for a few days, rigged Thomas's deck for a duel, and then tried to hurt Mavis again even after you lost!" revealed Rosie hotly, "So why should I listen to you?"

"I've changed," promised DIesel, "I now want to do good."

Rosie snorted, "Yeah right."

"I'm serious," Diesel insisted, placing his left hand onto Rosie's shoulder, "Besides, I can't help but feel sorry for you. Thomas doesn't seem to be interested in you. He seems to like Emily far more."

"Thomas already stated that he isn't ready for a girlfriend," retorted Rosie.

"But what if I were to tell you that he was lying to save face?"

"What?" The pink-haired girl froze.

"I noticed the two of them holding hands when they walk," remembered Diesel sneakily, "I even saw them kiss once or twice."

"I don't believe you," Rosie uttered quietly, slowly starting to break down in tears, "But you also look like you're telling the truth."

"There, there," comforted Diesel, "It's quite alright. Would you care to maybe come to the Smelters classroom tomorrow morning?" As he finished making his proposal, Rosie looked up at him, "My friends there would be happy to be your friends, too."

Now, normally Rosie would have outright refused to go with him. But she was so blinded by her sadness in thinking that Thomas had lied to her that she wasn't thinking straight, and so, Rosie nodded.

"Very well, I'll come by when I get to school tomorrow morning," agreed Rosie.

"I knew you'd see things my way," grinned Diesel, "How about I meet you outside near the statue of Sir Topham Hatt?"

"All right."

(elsewhere…)

Meanwhile, at the Billinton residence, all was pretty uneventful—on the inside, that was different.

(inside…)

Inside Thomas's room, he was busy doing his homework. He couldn't help but continue to feel bad about what he said to Rosie earlier that day.

"Maybe I shouldn't have turned her down," Thomas thought to himself, "She seemed really upset that I couldn't spend any time with her."

As Thomas continued to work on his homework, he heard a familiar voice calling out. Alarmed, he took up and looked for the source of the voice.

"Who's there?" shivered Thomas.

Then he saw, on his dresser, his Duel Monsters Deck glowing white. Thomas immediately knew what was happening. He walked over to his Deck and drew the top card. It was the 'Dark Magician' Normal Monster Card that was glowing. Suddenly, the Duel Spirit of 'Dark Magician' appeared in the middle of the room.

"What's the matter?" worried Thomas.

"Thomas, I sense great danger ahead," said Dark Magician.

Thomas was surprised, "Great danger? What kind?"

"While I don't know what it is exactly, I can say that someone in your very school is out to get you and your friends," figured Dark Magician.

"In my school?" gasped Thomas, "In that case, I'll have to warn Sir Topham Hatt once I find out who it is."

"By the time you do, it will be too late," Dark Magician pointed out, "Please be careful out there. I would never forgive myself if anything were to happen to you."

With that said, the Duel Spirit vanished, leaving Thomas both confused and worried. Trying not to worry too much, Thomas sat down at his desk and resumed his homework in order to get his mind off of the warning.

(elsewhere…)

The next morning, Rosie was standing by the statue of Sir Topham Hatt waiting for Diesel when…

"Morning, Rosie," A female voice greeted.

It was Percy and his girlfriend, Lady Stone—her real name was Polly, but she preferred being called Lady by her friends. Lady was 15-years old and very beautiful. She had long golden blonde hair and a maroon headband and a maroon short-sleeved shirt with the word 'Lady' on the front under the usual female uniform with gold shoes.

"Hi, Percy. Hi, Lady," waved Rosie brightly.

"Since you're here early, why not join us for breakfast in the cafeteria?" Lady kindly offered.

"No thanks, I'm actually waiting for someone," declined Rosie.

"Thomas finally found time to hang with you?" pressed Percy hopefully.

"Unfortunately, no."

"I'm sorry to hear that, Rosie," apologized Lady. glumly

Rosie shrugged, "It's fine. I guess I could try again another time."

"Alright," frowned Percy, but quickly smiled, "Well, if you wanna join Lady and I for breakfast, you'll find us in the cafeteria," He took Lady by her left hand, "Come on, I'm hungry."

"You're always hungry, Percy," joked Lady, "I'm surprised you haven't puffed up like a balloon."

Percy laughed at the playful jab, just as he and Lady both went on ahead towards the school. When they were gone, Rosie heard a familiar oily voice calling out to her.

"Hello, Rosie," The voice of Diesel echoed, as Rosie looked over and found him walking over, "Are you ready?"

"Diesel!" gasped Rosie, but recovered and nodded quickly, "Yeah, I'm ready."

"Very well. follow me," offered Diesel.

Both students walked towards the building.

(inside…)

Inside the school, Diesel and Rosie walked down one of the hallways until they reached the Smelters classroom.

"Here we are," Diesel announced pridefully.

"Okay… Open the door," urged Rosie, slowly and nervously. When Diesel nodded and opened the door, she gasped at what was on the inside, "Oh my gosh!"

The inside of the Smelters classroom was, by all accounts, a complete and utter mess. The desks were all broken, oil and metal strung all over the place, and Rosie could even swear she saw a rat scurry past.

"This is your classroom? How can you live in a shop like this?" spluttered Rosie.

"Call it what you want," shrugged Diesel, smiling fondly as he looked around the place, "But it's home to us."

Rosie honestly didn't know what to say about that.

"Who's there?!" A voice (male) boomed from the back room.

"I've brought Rosie Vulcan here, sir!" called Diesel.

Coming from the back of the room was a man with dark mustard-like colored hair and clothing. He also had a huge cast on his right arm (a serious injury perhaps?).

"Hello, Rosie. Welcome to the Smelters classroom," The teacher smirked, looking particularly happy, "My name is Mr. Nodniws. Diesel said you might come to visit our class. He's been telling me all he knows about you. You are a very special girl. Come in and have a seat…"

Diesel pulled up a chair for Rosie so she could sit down. He gave her a kind smile, making it seem like he was assuring her that everything would be alright.

"You may have already noticed that our room isn't big or grand like the others," continued Mr. Nodniws, looking around before focusing on Rosie again, "but it's still a good classroom and we're all very happy to have you here."

Rosie felt nervous, but a small smile soon appeared on her face as she decided it wasn't going to be as bad as she initially thought it would be.

"Thank you, Mr. Nodniws," praised Rosie.

With that being said, the pink-haired girl sat down. At that moment, some of the other Smelter students came out from the back room to see their visitor. There was 'Arry and Bert Hilton. There were also two boys Rosie had never seen before. The first was Den Royce who had orange hair and wore orange and blue clothes, while the other was his brother Dart Royce who had blonde hair and wore red and yellow clothes. There was Beyer Peacock, also known as Bear, for the growling noises he made. He had blonde hair and blue or green clothing. Then there were three other boys, one of whom Rosie knew rather well. The first was Paxton Derby, who had green hair and wore green clothes, and was also a good (yet rarely seen) friend. The second was Sidney Darlington who had blue hair and wore blue clothes. The third was Norman Ashford who had red hair and wore red clothes. He was also Dennis' cousin. Dennis Ashford, another member of Diesel's gang, was in the room, too. He had gray hair and dressed in gray clothes. The other two boys were recognizable, they were Splatter and Dodge Doncaster—both of whom were members of Diesel's gang. Then there was Derek Clayton, another good friend of Rosie's. He had blonde hair and wore green clothes.

"Hello, I'm Den. Uh, what I mean to say is…" Den started to say, but got mixed up.

Dart spoke up, "What Den means to say is he's the teacher's assistant and I help him a lot, I'm Dart."

"These boys here are Sidney, Paxton, and Norman," The voice of Den continued, talking about the three Smelter students before pointing to Dodge and Splatter nearby, "And those boys over there are…"

"What he means is that those boys there are Dodge and Splatter," finished Dart.

"I know, Dart. I was going to say his name," sighed Den in annoyance.

"Um… Hello, everyone," whispered Rosie, sounding quiet and nervous.

"Diesel has been telling us that you were feeling unappreciated," assumed Mr. Nodniws.

"We're here to see to it that you're never ignored ever again," oozed 'Arry.

"So, don't you worry," added Bert.

"You can always depend on us," Dennis threw in.

"As you can see, we don't get to enjoy noon-hour like everyone else," claimed Den, before stumbling on his words, "Uh, I mean…"

"What he means is that the class is such a mess, that we end up having to spend our time cleaning it," corrected Dart.

"Haven't you told Sir Topham Hatt about this?" pressed Rosie.

Just before someone could answer her question, Paxton noticed the Duel Disk on Rosie's left arm.

"Wait a second," interrupted Paxton, looking interested as Rosie faced him slightly, "You play Duel Monsters?"

"Y-Yeah," nodded Rosie, "I was a champion of New York City that took part in the San Francisco Duel Monsters tournament, but I was eliminated by Thomas early on."

"When Rosie moved to Knapford, she even copied Thomas's Deck for a duel with Emily," recalled Diesel.

Mr. Nodniws grinned, "Well then, how about that?" he admired, "I like someone like you, Rosie. What do you say to a quick match against me?"

"But isn't the bell going to ring soon?" quizzed Rosie, raising an eyebrow.

"I assure you this match won't take long," Mr. Nodniws vowed, pulling out his own Deck from his pocket, "So, are you in?"

"Come on, Rosie!" encouraged Paxton, "Show all of us how you duel!"

Ar last, Rosie made a decision.

"I…guess it's okay," agreed Rosie, activating her Duel Disk.

Diesel gave his teacher a Duel Disk. Mr. Nodniws then used his good hand to slot the device onto his injured arm—despite the injury, he didn't even feel any pain.

"Are you ready, Rosie?" challenged Mr. Nodniws.

"I'm ready," accepted Rosie, having drawn five cards.

And so, once Mr. Nodniws activated his Duel Disk and drew five cards, the match commenced…

"The first turn will go to me, young Rosie," declared Mr. Nodniws, drawing a card, "Draw!"

Turn One: Mr. Nodniws (LP: 4000)
Deck: 54
Current Hand (6): "KA-2 Des Scissors", "Time Machine", "Limiter Removal", "Monster Reborn", "Fiendish Engine Ω", and "Cost Down"

His drawn card was a Spell Card called 'Cost Down', bringing a smile to his face.

"Here's my card," dared Mr. Nodniws, taking another card from his hand and placing it onto his Duel Disk (sideways), "I Summon 'KA-2 Des Scissors' in Defense Position!"

Appearing onto the field was a Machine monster with crab-like pincers (Level: 4/ATK: 1400/DEF: 1000).

"You play a Machine Deck?" wondered Rosie.

"It sort of makes sense since I'm the teacher of this classroom," shrugged Mr. Nodniws, before taking and slotting a card into his Duel Disk, "And now, I'll Set one card face-down and end my turn."

A face-down card materialized on the field.

"A Machine Deck," Rosie thought to herself, "Next to Fiends and Dragons, Machine monsters are some of the strongest form of monsters in the game—with both equally high ATK and DEF," She then shrugged the thought off and drew a card, "It's my turn! Draw!"

Turn Two: Rosie Vulcan (LP: 4000)
Deck: 39
Current Hand (6): "De-Fusion", "The Forgiving Maiden", "Darklord Marie", "Polymerization", "Fire Princess", and "Guardian Angel Joan"

Upon seeing what card she drew…

"Perfect!" realized Rosie.

Mr. Nodniws raised an eyebrow, "Drew something good, I assume?" he asked curiously, "Well, whatever. Show me your strength as a duelist!"

"Here I go, Mr. Nodniws," proclaimed Rosie, "What I will bring out will be one of the strengths of my Deck!" She took and held three cards out, "Spell Card, 'Polymerization'! With it, I'll fuse, from my hand, 'Darklord Marie' and 'The Forgiving Maiden'!"

The two mentioned monsters ('Darklord Marie' and 'The Forgiving Maiden') briefly appeared on the field before fusing together.

"Appear now, 'St. Joan'!" yelled Rosie.

Appearing onto the field, as the Fusion Summon sequence ended, was a humanoid female monster with short blonde hair and dressed in armor while wielding a sword (Level: 7/ATK: 2800/DEF: 2000). With the small crowd…

"That's a new monster," commented Diesel.

"She must have changed up her last Deck," figured Paxton.

Back on the field…

"Battle!" declared Rosie, entering the Battle Phase, "My St. Joan will attack your 'KA-2 Des Scissors'!"

'St. Joan' obeyed, swinging her blade, and charging into battle. With a mighty slash, 'St. Joan' sliced the weaker monster in two, causing it to shatter into shards of glass.

"'KA-2 Des Scissors' has been defeated!" smiled Rosie.

"Ah, but I wouldn't say that just yet," retorted Mr. Nodniws, before pointing to his face-down card, "Trap Card, 'Time Machine', activate!"

The face-down card flipped up and revealed itself, resulting in a large machine emerging from the floor.

"'Time Machine'?" blinked Rosie.

"When a monster is destroyed by battle and sent to the GY: I must Special Summon that monster to the same field it was on, in the same battle position it was in when destroyed," explained Mr. Nodniws, just as the risen machine opened its hatch and released smoke, "Come forth, 'KA-2 Des Scissors'!"

Emerging from the machine was 'KA-2 Des Scissors', as though nothing had ever happened to it.

"He brought his monster back," groaned Rosie.

"It was a nice try, Rosie, but defeating my monsters isn't going to be as easy as you were thinking," teased Mr. Nodniws.

"My Battle Phase hasn't ended yet," Rosie pointed out, before holding another card out, "I activate the Quick-Play Spell, 'De-Fusion'!"

From there, 'St. Joan' faded away in a blue streak, before both 'Darklord Marie' (Level: 5/ATK: 1700/DEF: 1200) and 'The Forgiving Maiden' (Level: 4/ATK: 850/DEF: 2000) reappeared on the field.

"Hm… That was a good idea," admitted Mr. Nodniws.

"Now that I control two more monsters, I can still attack!" continued Rosie, before pointing forth, "Take 'KA-2 Des Scissors' down, 'Darklord Marie'!"

'Darklord Marie' obeyed, swooping in and striking 'KA-2 Des Scissors' head on. The result was 'KA-2 Des Scissors' exploding as a result of destruction.

"Now, 'The Forgiving Maiden' has a clear shot at your LP!" Rosie went on, pointing forth again, "Direct attack!"

'The Forgiving Maiden' obeyed, sending a beam of light magic at Mr. Nodniws, striking and causing him to stumble back a bit (LP: 4000 → 3150). Feeling confident, Rosie decided to play one more card before ending her turn.

"Furthermore," As Rosie spoke on, both 'The Forgiving Maiden' and 'Darklord Marie' faded away in streaks of blue, "I'll Tribute my two monsters!" She placed another card ('Guardian Angel Joan') onto a Monster Zone on her Duel Disk, "I Tribute Summon 'Guardian Angel Joan' in Attack Position!"

Appearing onto the field was a more angelic version of 'St. Joan' (Level: 7/ATK: 2800/DEF: 2000).

"That monster has the same stats as 'St. Joan'!" blinked Dennis.

"I end my turn!" concluded Rosie.

"Well, that's an interesting monster," admired Mr. Nodniws, drawing a card, "However, with the bell about to ring, I think I'll go ahead and end the match."

Turn Three: Mr. Nodniws (LP: 3150)
Deck: 53
Current Hand (5): "Limiter Removal", "Monster Reborn", "Fiendish Engine Ω", "Cost Down", and "Barrel Dragon"

On cue, the 'Monster Reborn' Spell Card materialized face-up on the field.

"'Monster Reborn'! I'll use it to resurrect 'KA-2 Des Scissors'!" began Mr. Nodniws.

The machine-like crab returned to the field once again.

"I'll also activate 'Cost Down'!" continued Mr. Nodniws, holding another card ('Cost Down') out, "I must discard 1 card; for the rest of this turn, I must reduce the Levels of all monsters in my hand by 2 (even after they are Summoned)!"

Rosie sweated, wondering what monster she'll be facing next. After sending a card from his hand ('Barrel Dragon') to the GY, Mr. Nodniws, removed the card ('KA-2 Des Scissors') from the only occupied Monster Zone on his Duel Disk. This resulted in 'KA-2 Des Scissors' faded away in a blue streak.

"Now, I'll Tribute my monster!" announced Mr. Nodniws, before holding up another card ('Fiendish Engine Ω'), "This here is a Level 8 monster, but thanks to 'Cost Down' its Level has been reduced to 6," The card was placed onto a Monster Zone on the Duel Disk, "Come forth, 'Fiendish Engine Ω'!"

Appearing onto the field was a huge, red Machine monster with blades on its forearms, and some exhausts on its back (Level: 6/ATK: 2800/DEF: 2000). With the small crowd…

"Oh man, I think Rosie's about to go down!" commented 'Arry.

"But aren't the ATK of 'Guardian Angel Joan' and 'Fiendish Engine Ω' both the same?" wondered Paxton naively.

"You dork! Mr. Nodniws isn't stupid enough to attack just yet!" insulted Dennis, "He needs to do a few quick things first."

Back on the field…

"I activate the second effect of my monster!" announced Mr. Nodniws, holding his good hand out, "Once per turn: I can have this card gain 1000 ATK until the End Phase!"

'Fiendish Engine Ω' grew stronger (ATK: 2800 → 3800).

"Now your 'Fiendish Engine Ω' is stronger!" gasped Rosie, before recovering a bit, "But I'll at least still have LP left over. And…" Focus went towards Mr. Nodniws and 'Fiendish Engine Ω', "…due to the third effect of 'Fiendish Engine Ω', it will be destroyed during the End Phase."

"Are you sure?" grinned Mr. Nodniws, causing the pink-haired girl to recoil, "I use 'Fiendish Engine Ω' to attack 'Guardian Angel Joan'!"

'Fiendish Engine Ω' obeyed, standing tall and looming over 'Guardian Angel Joan'.

"You're saying I'll be defeated in this attack?" Rosie was saying, looking very unconvinced, "No way! How are you so sure about that?"

"I have a Quick-Play Spell to activate, that's what!" boomed Mr. Nodniws, before holding his last card ('Limiter Removal') out, "'Limiter Removal'!"

All of a sudden, 'Fiendish Engine Ω' found itself getting supercharged (ATK: 3800 → 7600).

"Wh-What?!" Rosie cringed, as she watched 'Fiendish Engine Ω' about to strike both her and 'Guardian Angel Joan' down, "'Limiter Removal'?"

"I must double the ATK of all Machine monsters I currently control, until the end of this turn," revealed Mr. Nodniws, "During the End Phase of this turn, I must destroy those monsters. However, in this case, that won't happen," He then gave the final command to his monster, "Crustacular Crash!"

Rosie stared in horror as she watched her 'Guardian Angel Joan' be destroyed by the vastly superior power of 'Fiendish Engine Ω'.

"'Guardian Angel Joan' has been destroyed!" The voice of Mr. Nodniws boasted.

"I've…lost," whispered Rosie, defeated in a One Turn Kill (LP: 4000 → 0).

DUEL RESULTS: Mr. Nodniws wins!

The holograms faded away.

"Good game, Rosie," praised Mr. Nodniws.

"Whoa…" Rosie mumbled. Quickly, she recovered from her shock over losing and smiled, "Well, that was a very quick duel indeed," It was right around then she heard the bell ring, "Uh-oh! I have to run now!"

"No worries, child," Mr. Nodniws said kindly, "You may go. And know that you're always welcome to come back and visit us," As Rosie started to leave, he had one more thing to say to her, "But, for our sake, please don't tell anyone you were ever here."

"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone!" called Rosie, just as she took off out of the room for homeroom class.

Mr. Nodniws continued to smile until Rosie Vulcan was out of sight. Once she was gone, his friendly smile suddenly turned evil as he was met by a whole new voice inside his mind.

"So, my friend, how is the plan going?" The voice (male) asked.

"Just as you predicted, master, it's all going according to your plan," replied Mr. Nodniws, mentally.

An image of a teenage boy with tanned skin and also wearing purple robes appeared from Mr. Nodniws's dark mind—the boy appeared to be Egyptian.

"Very good!" The teenage Egyptian boy beamed, speaking mentally, "Soon the chosen one in the prophecy will fall…" As he said that, he pulled out…a golden rod of some sort… It had a Millennium Eye-like tip on the top of the long handle, "And then die by my hands."

The object, a Millennium Item called the Millennium Rod, shined brightly.

"Yes… And I will also have my revenge against my most hated foe… Oh yes, revenge… Revenge! REVENGE!" finished Mr. Nodniws mentally.

Two evil laughs echoed throughout the teacher's head as his evil smile remained. Just who was that teenage Egyptian boy? And what was the connection between him and Mr. Nodniws? It would seem we'll find out very soon.

Surprise! In light of the Definitive versions of the Battle City Finals, Aaron told me it inspired himself to want to polish up some of the Battle City primary duels. I agreed to it, and, so, here we are. We even added in the deleted scene of Rosie and Mr. Nodniws, who is someone we all know really well by this point, engaging in a brief duel. Well, all I can say is stay alert for more of these stories.
