The next morning at the Salvatore's home, Caroline was already up and in the kitchen, preparing breakfast for everyone before they all woke up. Caroline barely got any sleep last night due to the fact that she was still trying to figure out why Damon is back in Mystic Falls. Of course, Caroline had thought about calling Elena first thing this morning and warning her that Damon is back in town. But she decided against it.
Of course, Stefan was no help, considering that he had no clue as to why his brother had suddenly decided to show up at their door in the middle of the night after being gone for so long. Of course, Damon didn't really give them any answers either. All he told them last night was that he was tired from a very long drive and that he would tell them everything in the morning.
Well it's morning and Caroline is dying to know Damon's reason for coming back home five years later. She just hopes that Damon has a good reason for coming back. Caroline never had a problem with Damon. Her and Damon always got a long and she was hoping that Elena and Damon would get married some day, so her and her best friend would be sisters. Well sister in laws. But all that went out the window when Damon moved to New Orleans and left Elena the way he did, and Caroline never forgave Damon for it.
Hearing someone walking into the kitchen, Caroline looked over and noticed Stefan walking in with each kid in his arms. She smiled warmly as she walked up to her family. "Well, good morning," she said, leaning over to greet Stefan with a morning kiss before taking their son from Stefan's arm and setting him down at the kitchen table.
"Good morning," Stefan said with a smile as he returned the kiss before he placed their two-year-old daughter in her high chair. "Is Damon up yet?" He asked as he walked towards the coffee machine and poured himself a cup.
Caroline shrugged her shoulders as she placed breakfast on the table. "I don't think so, seeing that I've been up for a few hours already." She said as she then walked up to Stefan. "Um, Elena was supposed to come over with Bella, but since Damon is here, I think it's best if I take the kids over to Elena's instead." Caroline said softly.
Stefan nodded his head in agreement. "Sounds like a good idea." He said as he took a sip of his coffee. The last thing Stefan needs is for Damon and Elena to get into an argument the moment Elena walks through their door. So having Caroline go over to her house with the kids instead is a good solution for everyone for now.
"Good morning, kids," Damon announced as he walked into the kitchen and headed towards the coffee machine to help himself to some coffee.
Caroline sighed softly as she turned around and gave Damon her best smile. "Good morning, Damon. There's breakfast on the table. Might as well get it while it's still hot." She said as she walked over to the table and sat down next to Alyssa.
"Ahh, thanks, Caroline. But I can't really stay for breakfast this morning. I have to go to the bank." Damon said as he took a drink of his coffee and leaned back against the kitchen counter.
"Why are you going to the bank?" Stefan asked suspiciously, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Because little brother, I'm gonna take a loan out." Damon answered as he set his empty cup in the sink and looked at the time. "I gotta go." He said as he walked out of the kitchen.
"Don't you think we should talk about why you're here?" Stefan asked as he followed Damon out of the kitchen. "I mean, you showed up at my doorstep last night, Damon, you and didn't really give us a straight answer."
Damon sighed as he nodded his head. "I know. We'll talk when I get back." He said as he grabbed his jacket and car keys before walking out the door and closing it behind him.
"How much do you want to bet that he's back because of Elena?" Caroline asked as she walked over to him and placed her hand on his chest.
Stefan sighed deeply as he threw his arm over her shoulder. "Well, if he is, then Damon is in for a rude awakening." He said as he leaned down and kissed Caroline gently before heading back into the kitchen for breakfast.
Caroline just hopes that Damon knows what he's doing, because if he's truly back for Elena, he better means it. Because as much as she likes Damon, Caroline refuses to let him hurt Elena again.
Walking through the Mystic Falls Bank, the first person Damon noticed standing behind her desk was Lexi Braxton. Not only does Lexi work at the bank, she's also Stefan's best friend. So Damon knows that she can get him that loan.
" Lexi Braxton, the woman I came to see." Damon said with a smirk as he walked up to her desk.
Lexi turned away from her computer as she noticed Damon. "Well, well. Look who decided to show up in Mystic Falls after five years. What can I do for you this morning, Damon?" She asked with a friendly smile.
"I'm glad you asked that. Because I would like to take out a loan." Damon answered as he pulled out his ID from his wallet and placed it down on her desk.
Lexi looks down at his ID for a moment before she looked back up at him. "You do realize that you don't even have an account with us anymore. Since you did close it five years ago before you left town." She said, reminding him that he took whatever money he had left in his last account and closed it.
Damon exhales deeply as he nods his head. "Yeah, I know. But I really need this loan, Lexi."
"What's the loan for exactly?" Lexi asked as she ran her finger across her keyboard while looking at her computer screen.
"I'm opening up my bar right here in Mystic Falls." Damon answered with a huge grin on his face.
"Really? So you're moving back home?" Lexi asked as she stopped typing for a moment.
" That's the plan. So how about that Loan Lex?" Damon asked with a smirk.
While Elena and Caroline were sitting out back watching the kids run and play in the yard, Elena looked over at Caroline as she set her glass down. "So why did you decide to bring the kids here? You know I could've just brought Bella over." Elena said as she shrugged her shoulders slightly.
Caroline nods her head. "I know that. I just figured that I would drive out here instead. That reminds me. How did it go with your Mom yesterday?" Caroline asked as she remembered that Elena went to Mystic Falls yesterday to visit her mom. She also knows things between Elena and Miranda could be really awkward at times.
Elena exhaled deeply. "Everything was fine, up until she brought Damon up." She said bitterly as she took a drink of lemonade.
"Why would she bring him up?" Caroline asked, wondering if she mentioned the fact that Damon is literally at her house with Stefan, which is the main reason why Caroline came over to her place instead. But she decided not to say anything, figuring now wasn't a good time.
Elena exhaled deeply again as she started to explain what happened yesterday. "Well, the conversation started out fine when she asked how things are going with Matt and me. Of course, I told her that I'm not really sure how things are going... since I don't know if I'm really going to accept his proposal or not."
"Seriously? You still haven't said yes yet?"
Elena sighs as she shook her head. "I told Matt that I'll think about it and he's still waiting for my answer."
"Wow, I had no idea things were bad between you two." Caroline always thought Matt and Elena made a really cute couple, and even though Matt isn't Bella's biological father, he still treats her like she was his daughter. Caroline always loved watching Matt with Bella.
"It's complicated."
Caroline nodded her head as she didn't say anything. "So how did Damon end up in the conversation?" She asked a moment later.
Elena scoffs as she rolls her eyes. "Well, when I told her how I'm not sure if I'm in love with Matt anymore, she of course brought up Damon by saying that maybe the reason why I am feeling this way about Matt is because I'm still in love with Damon. Can you believe that? My own mother is trying to convince me that I'm still in love with my ex."
Caroline snorted a laugh as she shook her head. "Um... what would you do if you had found out that Damon was back?" Caroline asked, choosing her words carefully without saying too much.
Elena shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. I mean, honestly, probably nothing. But Damon is in New Orleans, and as far as I know, Damon isn't coming back." Elena said as she got up and went to check on Bella.
Caroline sighed deeply, as she really wanted to tell Elena that Damon was back in town. But she knew that maybe having Damon tell Elena himself that he was back, might be better. Caroline just hoped that Damon was truly back for Elena.
