Episode 8 - Up the Creek
Authors Notes
Eight weeks in! It's crazy how fast time has flown since I started writing this story in September. I've enjoyed every second of writing this fic so far, and I'm glad that you all are enjoying the content as well! It's awesome interacting with you guys, so please keep reviewing, PMing, and all the things that help me make this story better. Boney Island is finally here, and I am excited to start developing some of the less explored characters in this chapter.
So with that said, onto the reviewer responses:
Zeke the Prophet : Courtney switching the vote felt more reasonable than what happened in canon, and she did it to save herself as well, so it felt legitimate. I felt Tyler getting booted for being afraid of chickens was super lame and just an excuse to keep Courtney on the show a bit longer to develop her and Duncan's relationship. I wanted Mike to at least make Zoey think a bit more than she does in canon, and giving her a tidbit about him being in a hospital helps out a lot. I will continue to deliver, I appreciate your review every time.
Gucci Mane LaFlare : I'm glad you liked the fears! Like I said, some of them don't really have known fears, so I had to come up with some on the spot. Chris just making Geoff suffer more felt right, and Zoey was definitely not gonna ask him to do that. It was hard for me to let B go this early, he's one of my favorite characters because of his friendship with Dawn and his mechanical skills, but I agree his inability to talk holds him back in canon and in a lot of other fics. I appreciate your reviews as well!
amit : I'm glad you liked most of the fears I came up with! I had Ezekiel be scared of crowds because he is a farm boy, and being in solitude a ton and with a lot of open space to roam around, having the exact opposite would freak him out. Zoey's fear was based on her disdain of jocks, and I felt she would be scared of one who was obsessed with her to the point of chasing her. It wasn't fun for me having to boot B, he is one of my favorite characters, but I felt like to have the original trio and get some more development out of Dave and Ella he was unfortunately the only choice. Interesting thought with the cooking challenge! I like where your mind is at. I always love hearing from you!
Shuffollower : Glad to see you like the twist! I felt like Courtney showing she can be devious will help with some other villain plotlines, making them take action seeing another threat to their plans. I agree it's a shame B had to go, I really like him as a character, but like you said he can't defend himself without Dawn around to help communicate for him, and he didn't really have any allies besides Geoff and Jasmine. Mike and Zoey are my favorite couple in the Total Drama series, but I felt they didn't get quite the development they needed, so they've become the Gwent of the "original cast". I always love reading your predictions and reviews!
millikan : Don't worry, Courtney won't get much more development as a villain this season, I want to keep it to two characters at the most. So no need to worry! I appreciate your recent review as well!
romeoaifesili : It'll be interesting to write her elimination now that her canon boot has been done by her. Well since B was the only other one besides Geoff who failed the challenge, if she had switched the votes to anyone else, someone would've gotten suspicious, so eliminating someone on thin ice preserved her standing with the team, and made it harder to suspect her of anything. Tyler got the short end of the stick more often than not in this series, and I wanted to change that, he had so much potential and they really didn't start using him until World Tour, and he made it about halfway in that season. I think you'll be intrigued with how I work around the love triangle plot, and who ends up taking (or planting) the boney island tiki statue. Who gets booted is interesting because we dont have Izzy, but I have something in mind. As always, I enjoy hearing from you, and reading your ideas and predictions.
To all my reviewers and readers, you guys are the reason I will continue to write this series as often and as high quality as I can. Thanks for all the support so far, and we've still got a very long way to go. I think you guys will like this chapter, so fingers crossed that I can deliver.

(start episode)
"Last time on Total Drama Island," Chris begins as the camera opens up to a shot of the island, the series capstone theme softly playing in the background, "our seventeen campers faced a rather personal challenge. They had to go up against their worst fears." Clips of Brick getting slammed into a dark room, Dave jumping into a pile of laundry, and Duncan hugging a cardboard standee were shown in succession, and Chris continues his voice over.
"Some did really well, while others crumbled." Dave pops his head out of the laundry, and Geoff runs from the mini hail cloud before the footage cuts to Courtney's confessional. "After Courtney ruined the Gopher's chances of winning, she ensured victory by swapping the votes, and B got the boot instead." B is seen walking down to the dock of shame while his team watches in disappointment. The camera then cuts to Chris standing on the beach, alongside Chef who wheeled a map next to the host. "Will anyone figure out Courtney's deceptive ways? And will Jo ever dress like a girl?"
"Not a chance!" Jo can be heard yelling towards Chris, who smiles and continues. "Find out right now on Total, Drama, Island!" The music ends, and the shot zooms out with each word, ending in a full island shot.

Dear mom and dad I'm doing fine
You guys are on my mind
You asked me what I wanted to be
And now I think the answer is plain to see
I wanna be famous
I wanna live close to the sun
Well pack your bags cause I've already won
Everything to prove nothing in my way
I'll get there one day
Cause I wanna be famous
(Nananananana nanananana nanananana)
I wanna be, I wanna be, I wanna be famous
(Nananananana nanananana nanananana)
I wanna be, I wanna be, I wanna be famous

"Bass, Gophers, today's challenge is a true summer camp experience. A canoe trip." Chris can be heard saying as the camera pans over the remaining sixteen campers and quickly zooms out to show the beach, several canoes awaiting at the edge of the sand, color coded to the teams. Four red canoes and four green canoes awaited the teens.
"You'll be paddling your canoes across the lake... to Boney Island." the host says in a spooky voice, wiggling his fingers for effect. "When you get there, you must portage your canoes to the other side of the island." Chris points to a map next to him, and two red X's can be seen on either side of the island, connected by a dashed line. "Which is about a two hour hike through dense, treacherous, jungle!" the host finishes as he points to the second X.
"We have to por-wha?" Geoff asks, scratching his head in confusion.
"Por-tage." Chris frowns while making air quotes with his fingers. Geoff gives him a dumbfounded look, and a fly passes through one ear and out the other.
"Dude...walk with your canoe." Chris shoots the boy a finger pistol when he finally understands. "Oh…" the party boy mumbles.
"When you arrive at the other end of the island, you'll build a rescue fire which will be judged by me." The camera glances over to the Gophers side, and Heather can be seen looking at her team with a contemplative look.
"The first team to paddle home and return their canoes to the beach is the winner of invincibility. Move campers, MOVE!" the host calls out as the teens rush past him and towards the beach.
"Oh wait! One more thing I should tell you guys." Chris calls out as the campers stop and turn to look back. Legend has it, if you take anything off the island and bring it back...you'll be cursed forever!" the host finishes wiggling his finger once again as the camera zooms in on an angle.
Thunder rumbles and the teens up with nervous faces, only to look immediately at Dawn, who looks at them all in questioning.
"Now, get in your canoes and let's have some fun." Chris says pointing in the direction of the beach.

"This is the perfect time to start working on getting my newest ally." Heather confesses. "There aren't many choices left on this team. DJ, Duncan, and Geoff have all gotten close, and Jasmine and Courtney are too busy trying to take control of the team." she puts up a finger after listing the aforementioned teens, and smiles at the camera. "That leaves just one person left."

The camera shifts over from the canoes to a stairway leading to the beach, and several campers walk down the wooden stairs to grab their canoe. As Dave makes his way down the stairs, an arm reaches out and wraps around him.
"Hey Dave, wanna share a canoe with me?" Heather says in a seductive voice, and Dave gives her a nervous look.
"You're talking to me...right?" Dave asks while pointing at himself.
"Well yeah, why wouldn't I be? Unless you'd rather ride with Duncan." she smirks at the teen, and he sighs and hangs his head.
"Y-yeah sure, that's fine with me." he tells the Queen Bee, giving her a defeated look but accepting the offer.
"Sweet! Go get our canoe ready then." she smiles sweetly at the germaphobe as he makes his way over to the canoe.

"I don't really have many friends on this team besides DJ, and he's starting to get close to Geoff and Duncan." Dave frowns. "I need to stay in this game, and Heather is my best shot at that I guess.." he says shrugging at the confessional.

More campers make their way down the dock and start looking around for partners.
"Ella, you wanna give me a hand with this?" Jasmine calls out to her as she starts to move one of the canoes.
"Oh I'd love to!" the princess nods happily as she runs over to accompany the tall Australian.
The shot cuts over to a smirking Duncan who awaits Courtney as she makes her way down the stairs. "Hey princess, wanna ride together?" he smugly calls out to her as she rolls her eyes, but gives him a small smile.
"Don't get any ideas, I just think you'd make a good steering partner." she says, closing her eyes in a matter-of-factly way. She makes her way towards the canoes and Duncan laughs.
"You keep telling yourself that toots." he says with a grin as he follows her down to the beach.
The camera cuts back to the stairs, and Jo is seen coming down. She grabs onto Tyler with a grin and pulls him along with her. Brick stops at the bottom and looks at Amy expectantly as she makes her way down. The mean twin rolls her eyes and huffs, but says nothing as she follows the cadet. Mike and Zoey make their way down together and start to walk towards a canoe, but Dawn tugs on his sleeve and Mike stops to look back at her.
"If it's okay with you, I'd like to discuss something with you on our journey over to Boney Island Mike." the mystic calmly tells the boy. He looks back at Zoey who is now standing next to Ezekiel. She gives him a small smile and waves him off.
"It's ok, this gives us a chance to make some more friends!" she called to him as she and the homeschooler walk away. He smiles back before turning back to Dawn.
"Alright, sounds good to me Dawn." he smiles as they walk to grab one of the remaining canoes.
The camera quickly moves back over to the Gophers side, where Geoff and DJ are putting on their orange life jackets, and DJ kicks the canoe with his foot nervously.
"Do these things flip over a lot?" he asks nervously looking the watercraft up and down.
"These are totally safe dude. You're thinking of kayaks." he reassuringly tells the brickhouse. DJ wipes his forehead in relief before Geoff continues. "Unless we hit some roughs waves." DJ regains his nervous face as he gulps before responding.
"Water can get...rough?" he squeaks out, and Geoff nods in conformation.
"It can get pretty gnarly out there." the surfer boy responds, pushing up his hat as he starts to grab the front end of the canoe.

"When I was eight, my brothers dared me to jump off the high dive platform at the pool." DJ told the confessional camera. "I was scared but I jumped. Wasn't gonna let them call me chicken. I landed on my butt. Sounds better than a belly flop right?" he continues, crossing his arms with a frown. "Wrong. My trunks went so far up my butt I had to go to the hospital to get them removed!" He shudders before continuing. "They invented a new word for what I did. They call it the wedieflop. I've been scared of water ever since."

"Don't worry dude, I'll be in the canoe with you the whole time. I'll make sure that we don't even get a splash on you." Geoff confidently tells the nervous boy.
"You...you will? Thank you man." DJ says with a grateful smile.
/
The camera pans down the line of canoes as the pairs hop in their boats and start to push off shore. Jo grabs Tyler and throws him in their canoe before pushing them into the water and hopping in, Ella sits calmly as Jasmine easily moves their canoe into the water, and Ezekiel can be seen pushing his canoe to no avail. "Uhh, do you want some help Zeke?" Zoey asks as the boy grunts in frustration.
"I got this, eh. I'm a guy, so it's my duty to do this for you." he grunts once more as he finally gets the canoe off the shore and into the water, forgetting to let go of the canoe. "Wahaaaaahh!" the prairie boy screams as he falls face first into the lake, and Zoey quickly grabs him by the hood and pulls him into the boat. "Thanks Zoey…" he frowns, now dripping wet.
/
The eight pairs line up while Chris stands by on the beach, a starter's pistol in his hand. "Okay campers, on your mark...get set...Paddle!" he shouts and pulls the trigger, and the campers take off after hearing the shot fire. They take off in the direction of Boney Island, and the camera cuts back to Chris just as an eagle falls from the sky, hit by the "blank". "That's gonna provoke some angry emails." the host says looking down at the now unmoving bird.
/
All eight teams row towards their destination, and the camera zooms in on Dawn and Mike as they continue towards the island. "So Dawn, now that we're on our way to Boney Island, what did you wanna talk about?" the lanky teens asks Dawn as she stares off into the distance, lost in her own thoughts.
"Mike, you must tell Zoey and the rest of your team about your multiple personalities. If you continue to hide the others that are within yourself, I sense hard times ahead for you." she says with a caring look on her face as she turns back to look at the now frightened boy.
"W-what kind of hard time do you mean? Is it dangerous? Mike replies, wide-eyed but concerned. Dawn shakes her head and turns back around.
"Unfortunately, I don't know. I can only see what the universe shows me." she replies, a frown now plastered on her face. "It bothers me that I cannot help the people I care about more.." she sighs and rests her arms on the edge of the boat, putting her head on top to look over the boat's edge.
The camera pans over to Heather and Dave's canoe as Dave awkwardly looks around as he moves his paddle from side to side, keeping the canoe pressing forward. "Soo, why'd you team up with me?" he asks Heather as she steers the canoe to the left, around a jutting rock.
"I thought you could use some friends on this team, seeing as how the only friend you have is hanging out with Geoff and Duncan." she smirks as she hears Dave sigh.
"I just don't get what Duncan has against me. He's been making fun of me ever since I got swapped with Tyler!" a now angry Dave says, slapping the water with his paddle.
"Don't worry Dave, you can hang out with me and Ella!" she forces a smile, Dave now looking less worried than he did a moment ago.
"That would be…nice. Thanks Heather, I appreciate it." he smiles softly. Ominous music plays in the background as Heather grins devilishly to herself.
/
The camera flashes back to Mike and Dawn's canoe and they can be seen laughing with one another in a light-hearted manner. "And that's how I accidentally became a national champion in gymnastics. It was actually kind of embarrassing now that I said it out loud." he laughs and rubs the back of his head.
Dawn giggles and covers her mouth with her hand. "It seems like Svetlana and your other personalities bring you on quite the adventures." she says as she continues to paddle. "I would also reason that you like your other personalities, don't you?" she says to Mike and he smiles softly.
He takes a second to respond, smiling softly as he does "Yeah...yeah I do." he says quietly, looking down as he contemplates the mystics' words. As he ponders his own thoughts, an ominous tune sets in, and a low rolling fog descends and settles around their canoe.
"Hey, was this here earlier?" Mike says as he raises his head in surprise. Both teens look around worriedly and Dawn gulps. "I think we're nearing our destination." she comments as the camera slowly zooms out, fog rolling over every other canoe.
"You'll be paddling your canoes across the lake, to Boney Island." A map of Boney Island is shown on screen, which transitions into a shot of the island. Dark clouds can be seen all around the island, jagged rocks jutting out of the water. The island itself consisted of several massive rock structures, with the center rock in a skull shape. Dense forest and brush covered the island, giving the island an evil appearance.
The camera cuts to Brick and Amy's canoe as it hits the sand, and the rest of the canoes hit the shore, and the teens look around in awe as the fog continues to roll over them.
"That big rock looks like a skull, eh. That's probably not a good sign." Ezekiel points out to no one in particular. The camera pans over the skull once more, as a howling wind sets the atmosphere.
"Okay maggots, let's win this thing!" Jo yells as her and Tyler race off ahead, canoe above their heads. The rest of the campers pick up their watercraft and run after them, not wanting to be left alone on the unknown island.
/
A very intense and upbeat score plays as the Killer Bass run through the woods, mouths gaping at the skulls spearheaded through large stakes. They run past the skulls, but as they continue to move at a rapid pace, a tree falls down and blocks their way.
Menacing yellow eyes peek out from the brush all around, and the bushes and trees rustle as some animals peek their heads out at the teens. Brown fur, large tusks, wide but flat tails, and large buck teeth are seen on these monstrous brown beasts, and they surround the campers with drool dripping down their mouths.
"MONSTER BEAVERS!" Brick yells as the Bassscream and run in fear of being eaten by the large predators.

"A remnant of the Pleistocene Era, the Wooly Beaver is a day active rodent, indigenous to Boney Island." Chris says to the confessional camera with a smile on his face. "Oh yeah and they're meat eaters." he winks at the camera coyly.

The Killer Bass scream in panic as they run in the opposite direction they came from, passing by a bear itching itself on a pine tree. The wooly beavers run past the bear in hot pursuit of their prey, and the bear does a double take. It reaches down to grab a pair of glasses and puts them on, wondering if it had been seeing things right.
The shot cuts back to the Bass who turn a corner and run into a marshy area, blocked off by a large cliff with several clumps of straw in the cracks and open areas. "It's a dead end!" Tyler yells as they skid to a stop in the water. They turn around in fear, knowing the beavers are closing in on them, and are surprised to see the beavers stopping short of the water.
"They're turning back! Thank goodness! I almost peed myself there." Brick says as he hunches over in relief.
"Almost?" Amy snidely comments as the camera pans down to Brick's cargo shorts, and a large dark spot can be seen growing with each passing moment. "Eww…" the rest of his team recoils in disgust as Brick looks down ashamed.
Suddenly, several beaked heads rise up from the straw lumps, and reveal themselves to be ancient pterodactyls, with a Canadian goose color palette. "RUN!" Jo yells as they scream and take off back the way they had previously came from. The geese chase the canoe carrying teens back past the still confused bear, who looks back at them and sighs. It takes it's glasses off and snaps them in half, giving up trying to make sense of what it had just seen.
"Anyone have any bright ideas?" Brick calls out to his team. Tyler's face lightens up, and he pulls a loaf of bread from one of his track jacket pockets.
"Why do you have that?" Jo shoots the boy a bewildered look, and Tyler shrugs.
"I figured a snack would be good for us in case we got stranded!" the jock yells back.
"With bread from your shirt?! Just throw it you dimwit!" Jo retorts back, and the jock tosses the bread back, and the monstrous geese stop to feed on the snack.
The Bass stop and cheer as they see their pursuers distracted, but as they cheer, the Gophers run past them and Heather blows a raspberry, and Ezekiel frowns. "Let's catch em, eh! The race isn't over yet!"
/
The camera cuts to a shot of a crossroads in the forest's path, the Screaming Gophers logo spinning in the top left corner. "Which path are we gonna take guys?" DJ asks the rest of the team. "Let's go left. It looks less dense." Heather says and Ella nods in agreement.
"I think we should actually go right. The path is wider, and that means more people have walked it. So it probably leads to an open beach." Jasmine retorts, with a confident look on her face.
"Uhh, no. We're gonna go to the right. It's probably a trick to go left." Heather retorts, now gaining an angry look as the camera cuts to a close up of Heather and Jasmine's faces, as they glare at each other.
"Ladies, let's all calm down." Geoff says, his head popping up in between the two. "I think we should follow Jasmine's suggestion and go right." Geoff explains with a calm smile on his face. "She is a survivalist after all." Jasmine gives him a smile and Heather just huffs in frustration.
"Fine, we can go right. Just don't blame me when it ends up being the wrong path." she says as they start walking down the wider path.
/
The Bass can be seen running to catch up to the Gophers, their logo spinning in the upper left side of the screen. "I saw the other team go right!" Mike yells to the rest of the group.
"Then we should take the other trail, eh." Ezekiel responds, and they run down the left-most trail.
/
The Bass are now seen running down the left trail, Tyler and Jo in front of the pack. As they ran down the path, the jock suddenly stops, and starts to sink as a squelching sound is heard. "AHHHHH! I'm losing my legs! Someone help meeeee!" Tyler yells as he slowly sinks into the quicksand hands on the sides of his head in fear.
xxx
(static)
"How was I supposed to know what quicksand looks like?" Tyler confesses, throwing his hands up in the air in frustration. "It looks exactly like sand!"
(static)
"Hahahaha! Can you believe they fell for that?!" Chris laughs. "I set it up. But I didn't think anyone would walk into it." He continues to laugh uncontrollably. "That's just great!"
He finishes with a laugh.

"Quick, someone do something!" Zoey watches with a concerned look on her face.
"Don't worry, I got this, eh!" Ezekiel yells as he runs towards Tyler with a large stick in hand. He races to the edge of the pond with aq confident smile, but trips over a rock and falls face first into the quicksand along with Trent.
"Tyler, grab Ezekiel and the branch!" Brick yells as he leaves Amy to hold the canoe up, her arms shaking and dropping the canoe on herself. The cadet rushes over and grabs a hold of the branch, and pulls Tyler and Ezekiel out of the quicksand. "Thanks dude, I owe you big time." the jock shakes his hand gratefully, and Brick smiles confidently. "All in a day's work."
"Um, I hate to break up this tender moment, but we still have a challenge to win!" Amy yells angrily, having made her way from under the canoe. They all lift up their canoes and continue running towards the beach, hoping to catch the Gophers.
/
The camera cuts to the Gophers, walking calmly in the lead, when Chris starts to voice over. "Just when things were looking up for the Gophers," Geoff yells and falls to the ground in obvious pain, "disaster struck."
"Aughh, my leg!" Geoff cries as the camera zooms in, and moves around looking for the cause of the party boy's pain. "I'm done for! Oh why did this have to happen to me now? Why, why, why?!" he grabs his leg and groans.
"Geoff! Are you alright?" Jasmine asks as she approaches the teen and kneels down to check his injury.
"You have to go on without me, I'll just be dead weight." he moans as the rest of his team looks at him in concern. Courtney moves to walk away, but DJ grabs her and pulls her back.
"We're not leaving anyone behind, not on my watch." DJ says with a determined look.
xxx
(static)
"I didn't think I was gonna make it." Geoff grimaces in pain before continuing. "It was touching that they brought me with them."
(static)
"I've seen people get mauled by Dingos and bitten by snakes, but this was way worse than this." Jasmine confessed with a shocked look on her face.
(static)
"The guy just kept on goin'. Man's got heart." DJ said with an amazed look on his face.

A large piece of wood can be seen stuck inside something, and the camera zooms out to show the "giant" piece of wood to be a splinter in Geoff's leg, who now stands atop his own canoe, with DJ carrying the heavy load. The Gophers finally make their way to the beach, where the Bass can already be seen, waving at the Gophers. The camera zooms in on their fire pit, sticks already prepped as Brick and Jo hold flint and steel, and a stick respectively. They attempt to start their fire, Jo striking her flint together, and Brick aggressively rubbing his stick against another. Their smiles quickly fade as not a single ember starts, and they look over and gasp as the Gophers have a roaring fire going.
"Hey how'd they get done before us?" Jo asks, bewildered. Duncan smiles darkly and lifts a lighter in his right hand, popping it open with a small flame emanating from the silver device.
"No rule against carrying lighters," Chris says from his helicopter, flying high above the island, "edge, Screaming Gophers."
/
The Killer Bass can be seen walking around the beach, camera panning across the sand as the teens pick up more kindling. Amy walks by a bush to pick up more kindling, and an eerie maraca sound can be heard as she drops her sticks and picks up something that was stuck in the brush. The camera cuts to show the item in hand as a small tiki idol, and a flashback begins.
"If you take anything off the island and bring it back...you'll be cursed forever!" Chris recalls in the flashback, and Amy gains a dark grin on her face, an idea forming in her head. Ominous music starts to play in the background.
She picks up the idol and hides it behind her back, walking over to the Gopher's side of the beach. She looks around and smirks evilly as she tosses the tiki idol into Geoff and DJ's canoe, and runs away quickly to go join her team once more.
/
Geoff can be seen dragging himself towards the firepit, with another arm holding extra kindling. He grunts every time he drags himself closer to the fire, and tosses in his sticks to keep the fire going. "You doing alright man?" DJ asks the party boy who smiles back at him and nods.
"I'm doing as good as I can be, dude. I'm just glad we're in the lead for the moment." he says, giving a now approaching Courtney a calm smile.
"We won't be for long if we let this fire die. Come one, let's go get some more wood!" she calls to the brickhouse, who smiles and walks off with Courtney.
/
The shot flashes to the Bass' side of the beach, as Amy is seen walking back to her team. "Where have you been, high heels?" Jo asks the cheerleader with an annoyed look. Amy huffs and looks away, crossing her arms in annoyance.
"It's none of your business." she retorts, and Jo narrows her eyes.
"Does anyone have anything to make this fire bigger?!" she yells to her team, their fire much smaller in comparison. Ezekiel walks up to Jo, carrying a large, gooey ball in his hands.
"This will help out, eh. It's made of some tree sap, berry juice, sand, and some moss." He says holding the ball out for all of them to see. "Better stand back, eh. It's gonna be a big blast." The camera quickly cuts to show several of his teammates nervous faces, backing up as Ezekiel had warned.
He takes a long, heavy breath, before tossing the ball into the fire. An explosion occurs that is so big, the camera quickly zooms out having to show the entirety of Boney Island to fit the blast on screen. Chris quickly moves his helicopter out of the way, and grins at how big the explosion was. "And we have our campfire building winner!" Chris declares as the Bass peek out from behind several rocks, looking up at the host in anticipation. "Point, Killer Bass!" the host declares, and the Bass cheer.
"Where'd you learn to do that?!" Tyler looks down at the now soot covered boy, who grins. "I live on a farm, eh. My pa taught me that in case we needed to clear fields for planting." he smiles sheepishly.
"That's so cool! Way to go Zeke!" Mike cheers.
/
The camera flashes to the canoes, sitting on the edge of the sand, waiting to be boarded once more. Both teams walk over to their canoes, and they get ready to board them. "Okay team, we need to get back to camp as fast as possible to win, even though we have a head start." Brick tells his team as a drumline begins in the background.
"Let's roll out quickly, and not look back! We need to focus to win this one!" He finishes as they all board their canoes and start paddling off.
The shot cuts to the Gophers as they watch the Bass row away, and frown as they wait for their turn to board the canoes. As they wait, a strong gust of wind blows, and they look back in shock as embers are carried from Ezekiel's sizzling crater. The embers fly through the air, landing onto a few of the Gophers canoes, and setting them on fire.
The team screams in panic and rushes to put out the fires, splashing water onto their canoes, eventually putting the fire out.
"That's just great! Now we'll never catch them!" Heather yells at her team, hands on her hips in frustration.
"We need someone strong enough to push these canoes, they won't make it if we just paddle." Courtney pitches in.
"I'll do it. I'm the only one who can push us that far." DJ says, stepping forward, and Geoff gasps.
"Dude, we can't ask you to do that, you'll drown!" He tells the boy, but DJ shakes his head.
"You helped me get over my fear of water, I gotta repay you somehow." the brick house says, as he puts a serious look on his face.
/
Triumphant music starts to play as DJ can be seen swimming behind the canoes, pushing on them with all his strength. The brickhouse grunts in frustration, and pushes even harder as they quickly gain on the Bass.
The camera pans to the said team, and they look back as a large splashing noise can be heard. They look on in horror as DJ quickly passes by them, the Gophers cheering as they pass the other team.
"We're almost back! YES! Way to go DJ!" Courtney yells to the still grunting DJ. As the Screaming Gophers cheer on DJ, he suddenly cries out in pain and lets go of the canoes to grab his leg.
"My leg won't move! I think I have a cramp!" he grimaced as he floats in the water, his teammates sitting on the canoes, helpless to make it back. The Killer Bass quickly catch up, and surpass the now stalled Screaming Gophers, Jo laughing as they float by.
The Bass hit the shore and quickly get out of their boat, running towards Chris who awaits them on shore. "The Killer Bass are the winners!" He proclaims, and the camera cuts to a defeated Gophers team as they hang their heads in defeat while the Bass can be heard cheering.
"Way to go DJ, your timely cramp cost us the game!" Heather yells at the large boy, and the others look at her with upset faces.
"He can't help it Heather, just cut him some slack." Geoff retorts, frowning at the Queen Bee.
"Right, because you did so much more than he did." Courtney says, appearing between the two. "At least DJ tried to help us win."
Geoff gets a nervous look on his face as the rest of his team looks at both him and DJ, frowns on their faces.

The scene changes to show the island in its full glory at night, moon shining in the distance. A wolf's howl can be heard as the camera cuts to the campfire ceremony, where the Gophers sit in anticipation. The suspended music starts to play as the campers all watch Chris as he steps out from the podium.
"And now, the always anxiety-inducing marshmallow ceremony." Chris says, spinning the plate full of sugary treats on his finger. "When I call your name, come and grab a marshmallow." the host says as he now stands behind the oil drum, and the contestants look on with nervous faces.
"Dave, you're safe." Chris calls out to the boy. Heather. Duncan." the host calls out as the three make their way up to grab their ticket to safety. "Jasmine and Courtney." Both give each other a knowing smile as they stand up to get their marshmallow. "Ella, you're also moving on."
"Oh goodie!" The princess claps as she grabs her marshmallow from the plate and tosses it into her mouth.
"Campers, there is only one marshmallow left on this plate. One of you will be going home tonight." Chris solemnly says as the camera pans over to DJ and Geoff, both looking down in shame. "And tonight's loser is…Geo-"
"Wait! I volunteer myself to go home tonight!" DJ says standing up as his teammates gasp. "I let you all down today, and there's no other way to fix this than to send myself down the Dock of Shame."
Geoff's lips start to tremble as the large boy walks over to him and gives him a pat on the shoulder. "Don't let me down man. I know you'll go all the way." he says before turning around and walking over to Chris. "Alright, let's get this over with." he tells the host as Chef appears and leads the boy down the dock, and they board the Boat of Losers.
"DJ wait!" the teen turns around after hearing his name, and the camera cuts to Geoff, Jasmine, and Dave all standing on the dock, waving him off as he leaves.
"We're gonna miss you mate!" Jasmine calls out.
"I won't let you down DJ!" Geoff yells, a tear running down his cheek.
"Good luck guys! I'll see you on the other side!" DJ smiles and waves back.
"Well that takes care of that." Chris says as he walks down the dock, entering the shot. "Sleep well everyone!"

The camera flashes to the Bass cabin, where Mike can be seen laying in his bed pondering something. Dawn's words echo in his mind. "I would also reason that you like your other personalities, don't you?" He tosses and turns before mumbling, "If only they were all nice."

The camera flashes once more and Amy can be seen sneaking out to where the canoes lay, and the ominous track and unnerving maraca sounds return as she grabs the tiki idol, smiling evilly to herself. Thunder rumbles as the camera zooms in on the idol, then quickly zooms out several times, and the feed cuts to static.

As much as I didn't enjoy doing it, DJ gets sent home tonight after Amy plants the tiki in Geoff and DJ's canoe, but I wanted to make it to how DJ would want to go out. DJ does this in canon, and I wanted to have a more emotional elimination because him and Geoff grew close after their canoe ride together. This elimination was my hardest yet, so I wanted DJ to go out right.
I thought either Brick or Ezekiel knowing how to make the sap bomb would be most likely, but I wanted to give Ezekiel some more screen time, and I feel like he could know something about homemade fire accelerants, so I went for it. The poor guy got screwed in canon.
Amy finding the tiki doll also gives her more credibility as a villain, because she's actually causing eliminations without people catching on, at least for now.
Last thing, Dave was the most logical choice for Heather's replacement in her alliance, and I think him having some offscreen issues with Duncan is a credible reason. If you don't agree, that's fine:)
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter, let me know what you thought by leaving a review! See you all next week!
