Chapter II: Nobody's coming..

Danny barely remembered his first time in the GiW's grasps. All he had were bits and pieces from being tossed into a van to the bright lights of a lab. Each time he slipped in and out of conciseness, he heard muffled voices of the agents along with a loud ringing. The last time his eyes shut, they were soon shot open with a strained gasp. His vision blurred, as he tried to get up from his laid down position. 'Something's wrong,' he said repeatedly in his head. He was desperately trying to get out of his stupor he was in.

A cold metal wrapped around his wrists. The sudden sensation made him flinch, but it also made him remember everything that happened.

With wide eyes, the phantom tried to find his bearings on where he was. But all he was met with were blurs of the agents around the room along with the muffled voices. Whatever was put on his wrists weren't helping at all. If anything, it made him feel worse.

One of the agents hoisted Danny up and on his shoulders, the boy's upper half limply folding against the agent's back. Whoever the agent was, dutifully ignored Danny's groan from being carried like a sack of potatoes. As the agent began to walk, Danny noticed a few different blurs. The colors of the blurs popped out to him. Orange, blue, red, and purple. Purple.

Before any recollection was made, Danny was taken out of the room and ungracefully thrown in a dimly lit cell. The teen rolled onto his side, picking himself up. "Ow," he groaned before taking a look around the room he was tossed in..

The cell itself was rather small, only having room for the halfa and little area for extra space. The floor was made out of concrete, the bars were made out of steel, and the walls were of stone. Outside the cell was a singular table and chair. The chair facing towards the cell. The only sources of light were kept above the table and chair.

'Cozy,' Danny thought. He stood up and walked towards the cell door. The bars were too close together to try and squeeze through. Raising his hand, he tried to reach through the small gap. He quickly moved his hand away the moment he felt a small jolt of electricity. So, that finalized that way of escaping.

Danny backed up from the bars, having enough of being shocked the whole day. His eyes drooped to whatever was wrapped around his wrists. They looked like a smaller version of the Specter Deflector. A bracelet version, in this case. Whatever they were, they made him feel weaker somehow. Made him feel… something. Danny flexed his fingers before making a fist. Something was wrong. Trying to do something. Anything. But to no avail. He didn't even have enough strength to turn invisible, much less intangible. If they were like the Fenton Specter Deflector, he wouldn't be stuck as Phantom, right? So what were they?

"Inhibitors." A voice unknowingly answered, startling the halfa.

Danny turned around and saw an Agent at the doorway. He bared his teeth at the unwanted visitor. "K," he growled, glaring at the operative. "What did you do?"

"I didn't do anything except capture you, Phantom." Operative K spoke calmly. "The Fenton's put them together. But the kid, Foley, had the idea. They're made to block out your powers."

Danny flinched. This was Tucker's idea? His mouth dried up the moment he tried to ask why, instead, "Block out my powers?" He let out a weak laugh. "That scared of me breaking your toys?"

"It's not us that's scared of you." Operative K stated, sitting down in the empty chair. He was amused to see Phantom still at the implication. He revived no snide remarks. Just a sharper glare from those toxic green eyes.

"What do you want, K?" Phantom snarled.

Operative K said nothing for a moment, a smirk forming on his lips. "You."

"Flattered, but I have to decline." Phantom snarked. "Now since that's settled, take these off and I'll only consider blowing this place up."

"No can do." K said. "We made a deal with the Fenton's."

Phantom's glare softened. "What deal?" He asked, confused on whatever his parents had agreed with.

"That when we captured you, they'll get to do whatever they like as long as we keep you here." Operative K answered. He leaned backwards in his chair, watching Phantom's reaction closely.

"Whatever they like," Phantom repeated mindlessly. A moment passed before he stared at the agent in horror. "You're going to let them experiment on me?!" His voice rose an octave as he exclaimed.

The agent raised an eyebrow. "So, you had an idea already."

"Duh," Phantom had an incredulous look. "They've been very vocal about ripping me apart molecule by molecule! You're going to allow that?!"

"To a certain degree." Operative K responded, emotionlessly.

Phantom stared at K. There was a beat before he turned to the side, beginning to pace around the cell, his hands running through his hair as he muttered a string of curses. He had to be joking. Yeah, he was messing with him. Right? He came to a stop. "Can that.. not happen?"

"A deal's a deal, Phantom."

"Like that stopped you before," Phantom snapped. The echo in his voice bouncing off the cell walls. "You're literally part of the government!" The halfa groaned.

Operative K watched Phantom seemingly panic. He was amused at the sight, or rather the idea, of a ghost being afraid to be ripped apart and experimented on like it would feel it. The emotions he saw through Phantom were remarkably human. That reason itself was why he made the deal with the Fenton's. They were curious. Just as curious as he was, if not more. A perfectly humanoid ghost had fallen in their hands. They can't let it get away so easily. They needed to run tests. To gather information on it. All the information they could. No matter how long it took for them.

The agent noticed that Phantom had lowered itself to the floor. Its green eyes seemingly staring through the man in the chair. It was in deep thought. Probably thinking of a way to get out of this situation, he thought.

Danny, however, was aware that he couldn't get out of the cell on his own. He was already physically and mentally exhausted. Even without the inhibitors he would probably turn invisible or intangible for a few minutes and he doesn't know where he was. So, for now..

"And what do you want from me?" Phantom asked. His arms folded as his eyes focused back on Operative K.

A mysterious smile made its way onto Operative K's face. "Rest up, Phantom," The dark skinned man stood up from the chair. Turning his back to the ghost teen as he opened the door. Glancing back over his shoulder, Operative K smirked. "You're going to need it." Danny narrowed his eyes, watching the door shut.

He was alone in the room once more. Only left with the thoughts of the conversation and the information he received.

Experiments.

Danny didn't know if he should laugh, cry, scream, or all the above. The latter seemed like the best option, but he didn't have energy. He was tired. The only thing he wanted to do more than anything was sleep. Rest. Before he knew it, Danny was leaning back against the wall with his hands in his lap. Yeah, sleeping sounded good. His eyelids became heavy, starting to close. Just a quick nap. Once his eyes shut, he gave into the darkness and muscles relaxed. He had fallen asleep with only one last thought on his mind: 'Who knows I might wake up and this whole thing is going to be just a bad dream.'

.

. .

. . .

There was a disappointment that rose when proven that wasn't the case.

Danny was taken out of his dreamless sleep from the loud noises of something hitting the metal bars. A loud ringing was heard around the cell along with a rough voice yelling in his direction.

"Get up, you Ecto-scum!" The loud man shouted. Danny outwardly groaned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He looked up from the floor to see a bald tanned man dressed in a white suit, with a black tie and gloves, and even though they were indoors; the man wore sunglasses. A GiW agent. Danny glared as the man finally stopped swinging his keys on the bars. "Time for your first appointment, Phantom."

Danny barely resisted rolling his eyes at the mocking tone the agent gave him, when saying his name. Instead, he focused on himself. Even after he rested, Danny still felt, as much as it pained him to admit, weak. Only a penny of strength came from the nap. He eyed the inhibitors on his wrists. They were really doing their job.

Before he could think anymore, he felt something shock him down his body. His hands instinctively went up to the metal collar around his neck. He had forgotten all about it. Once the pain subsided, Danny looked back at the agent. His eyes glowed in annoyance the moment he saw the man's smug face. Despite this, he reluctantly stood up and walked up closer to the cage door. The door then flew open, the agent (He's going to call him T) pulling him out of the confined area.

Next thing he knew, Danny was being dragged down a hallway. They were full of armed agents. Ready to shoot if the ghost boy had even dared to escape right then and there. Danny gulped, but tried to keep his cool composure. The pressure had made the walk with agent T seem longer than it probably was. But eventually, the teen had come to a halt at white aluminum double doors. In his peripheral, he saw Agent T slide a card in the keypad by the left side of the door, before putting in a code. His mind mimicked the sounds each key made as the doors slid open.

Walking inside, he was instantly reminded of his parent's ghost lab, but the many gadgets and vehicles that had resided in his home's lab were replaced by an examination table and lots of tools that he remembered seeing during a science class or two. More specifically, when they were dissecting frogs. He grimaced at the thought. Hopefully those experiments won't start today.

"There you two are." a familiar feminine voice said, making Danny freeze. "I almost thought you all forgot our promise." Even without looking at her, Danny could see that pouty look she wore countless times with that playful tone. Suddenly everything around him was muffled. His senses suddenly weakened as a panic rose seemingly up his throat with his pounding heart.

It didn't take long before he felt her warm hands on his face, forcing him to look in her direction. He was met with his mother's violet eyes. But they weren't filled with the motherly warmth he was used to. No, it held a fascination, an amusement, of some kind. That's right. She didn't see her son; Daniel Fenton. She saw her new toy; Danny Phantom. She was scanning every inch of him. Occasionally moving his head to get a better look at a few places.

"We'll take it from here. Thank you." Maddie Fenton told the Operative. Danny heard the doors behind him open and close, leaving him in his mother's grasp.

"I don't have the words to describe how long I- we waited for this day." Her voice was giddy as she lowered her hands down to his wrists. "Now, before we properly get started, we need to take a few more precautions."

Danny blinked out of his stupor. "What?"

His question was ignored. Instead he was pulled along to the other side of the room, near an empty table. Maddie stopped, her grip tight on Phantom's wrist as she looked around. "Oh where is he now?" She muttered, a hint of annoyance in her voice. "Jack?" She called out.

"Right here, Maddie!" A male voice answered before a large orange figure made its way towards them. In Jack Fenton's arms were a few gadgets and devices that he lowered onto the table. "Are we good to go?"

"Not just yet," Maddie responded. "One more thing then we'll be ready." Jack visibly deflated at her words, making her giggle. "Why don't you go get ready for today's research and we'll meet you there when I'm done here?" With a nod, Jack beamed and went over to the examination table once again leaving mother and son alone. Maddie's eye bore into Phantom's as she raised the wrist she was holding onto. "How do these feel?"

Danny gulped, hoping his heart followed his phantom saliva down his throat and back to where it's supposed to be. "It feels weird." He answered, truthfully. "Makes me feel off." He mentally cursed himself for telling her this information.

Maddie nodded her head, lowering his wrist slightly. In a swift motion, she grabbed one of the devices Jack had put on the table and put it on the inhibitor. Danny blinked, confused about what she was doing.. Until she turned the device on. He stilled. Barely noticing Maddie's smile grow as she looked at him. "How about now?" Her voice was full of curiosity.

Phantom took a moment to respond. His throat felt dry. That 'off' feeling had grown to something more. Something bad. Something- "Wrong-" He managed to let out.

The answer seemed to have pleased Maddie regardless because soon she motioned for his other hand. Which he slowly and shakily gave her. She repeated the process the moment his wrist was in her hands. Silently noting the way he gasped and stumbled. "You are a very strong ghost," she started to speak, as she grabbed two more inhibitors and lowered down. Placing them on each leg. "So, this is mostly for our safety." She got the extra devices from off the table. She was aware of Phantom's 'no's' and 'stop's' but she kept going, letting his pleas fall into deaf ears. "Don't want you blowing everything up after all our trouble of capturing you." Maddie giggled as she turned on the devices on his legs. Watching in great interest as Phantom collapsed to the ground. "How does it feel now?"

Danny struggled to breathe. A burning sensation spread throughout his body. It felt like someone was strangling him and his ghost core was reacting strongly. It was throbbing in his chest like a beating heart. It was screaming at him. He struggled to keep his consciousness as he was on his hands and knees. He lowered his position onto his arms as his mind screamed at him to breathe. Then he began to violently cough.

Maddie watched the ghost boy's reaction. She was visibly impressed and amused to see it still conscious. Phantom's ghostly glow had gotten dimmer, his skin paler. Then she smiled as he started coughing. "Oh Jack, look!" She called out to her husband. "It's trying to breathe!" She didn't need to look back at him to know he hurried over. "Do you think it's a trigger to when it was alive?" she asked curiously once she felt her husband's presence.

"Only one way to find out, Mads." Jack picked up the half conscious Phantom and turned to the Examination Table. "Time for some tests!" He happily shouted. His wife nodded in agreement, unable to contain her eagerness.

So, I have a confession to make. These next four chapters were NOT originally in my plan, but I got bored during a road trip and started planning chapters ahead of time. Then while writing, I had to swap chapter orders. What I'm saying is these few chapters was a complete pain in my bottom.

This one, in particular, was mostly just for fun. I thought it would be cool to show a small snippet of what Danny's first night was like.. How it ended is up to y'all's imagination until more stuff gets revealed. Also shout out to Lexosaurus for the Inhibitors thing. You all should check that one-shot out if you haven't already.

Until then, I hope you all enjoyed! Major thanks to everyone who followed and favorited the story so far! I will be adding a chapter every week to try not to get to "filler" territory to keep you all occupied.

Also I don't normally respond to reviews directly and I would like to change that. Mostly because I always found it fun to see.

Invader Johnny: Yes, Danny will not be okay for the majority of this fic. Betrayal from the people you love isn't fun. I was also not aware of that saying. It makes me a little more proud of what Danny's response about Valerie was. I probably could've phrased it better, but still..

Polly: Interesting take. My writing isn't for everyone and that's okay. Though, I think you could go without insulting anyone else who might enjoy my work. I doubt this will be seen by the commentor, but I'm going to say this to avoid anything later on. I do not write for other people. I write because I find it enjoyable. Though that doesn't mean I'll refuse constructive criticism. Destructive, on the other hand. Ngl, it's kinda a waste of time. Not just for me, but for you and anyone else who either likes or not like this. But anyways. I'm gonna keep writing this, if you don't mind.

Have a wonderful day! Until next time!

Next up: we'll be visiting Valerie in her POV
