Gabby didn't understand why she was being roped into this matter.

And why was Ivy getting involved with this kid?

Sure, Ivy is known for having a soft spot for kids, orphans especially, and the kid Josie is adorable.

But why was she bringing the kid around?

The three of them had priors, and her presence could screw them; her brothers and sisters didn't need that right now.

Gabby told Ivy no, but then she threatened to turn her into mulch.

When Gabby tried to get the old man on her side, she was told to shut up and do as she was told.

He even gave her 1200 bucks and to buy the kid some new clothes.

Why was he getting himself involved in this?

The last time she checked, Ivy and Joker didn't do business together.

What's so special about her?

What the hell did she get herself into?

Colin honestly believed that today would be the greatest day of his life.

Damien was going to introduce him to his father!

He was actually going to meet The Batman!

He couldn't believe it!

He knew how to act!

He wasn't so stupid as to call him Batman in public; he was Mr. Wayne.

Don't talk about the late nights.

He isn't some omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient being; he's just a regular guy who happens to be filthy rich.

He just needed to be cool, calm, and collected.

Colin looked at himself in the mirror; he wore a green hoodie, white shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers.

'Be calm, Colin.'

Josie brushed her hair once more; she must have done so a million times during the last two hours.

It turns out that no one even realized she was missing; no one in Gotham cared for little kids.

But didn't she hear something about children going missing?

She did; she remembered, but where?

Anyway, Josie wanted to look her best; she switched her pink plaid shirt to a purple and black one.

Joker loves purple, and she hoped Gabby might take her to see him.

Even if he was being a big meanie, Josie did want to see him. Maybe she could get him to look at her.

Josie had numerous questions about him, her mother, and why he left. Her grandparents didn't know anything about him, and she doubted that they and her mother knew that Joseph was Joker; that would suggest that Bex would be willing to marry a dangerous man.

Josie just face-to-face with him; if he could look into her eyes, he would be won over.

Her backpack ready, Josie turned to the window as a black car drove up.

At first, she thought it was Gabby, but an old man got out of the car. Josie sighed as the man went to the back of the car and opened the door; a man in a black suit gracefully stepped out.

Despite being on the second floor of the orphanage, she could tell he was handsome.

He was dressed like a bad guy, she thought as a little boy climbed out behind him. They looked like they were dressed alike; they probably looked alike, too.

Father and son, perhaps, but still dressed as bad guys.

Everyone outside ran to them, were they famous?

Josie had never met a famous person before, and she was curious to see if he was really handsome.

And it would be easier to find Gabby if she was outside.

Bruce was curious about this Colin boy Damien kept mentioning; a friend his age would be great. From what little he gleaned from Damien, he never associated with other children.

His ill-gotten son from a woman whom he would have died for.

A woman who stole from him what he would have gladly given; it hurts to look at him for too long.

'I think Colin will make an excellent addition to our mission!' Damien said, barely containing his excitement.

'So you've mentioned numerous times.'

'He is quite intelligent for a child.'

'So you say.'

'He's a very competent fighter.'

'Glad to hear.'

'I let him rescue a couple of times.'

'I'm glad you did.'

'And he is really quite fascinating!'

It was nice seeing him act like an average ten-year-old.

Wait... no, no, he was 10.

'You say your friend hasn't seen the little girl in a few days?'

'What?'

'The little girl, Joanie?'

'Josephine Kerr!'

'I left something in the car; you get your friend-'

'Excuse me.' A young woman whom he vaguely recognized pushed him.

Where had he seen her before?

'Are you trying to weasel out of spending time with me?!'

Damien's voice cut through his thoughts.

'What?! No, I'm not-'

'Then it can wait!'

Bruce started to debate but decided against it.

The boy was right; it could wait.

Hopefully, it doesn't come back and bite him later.

Self-centered prick, Gabrielle thought as she pushed past the king of Gotham City.

Bruce Thomas Wayne.

But him pulling up saves her the trouble of laying low; she could literally take the kid from under their noses.

But she should still use the wig she got from her mother's closet, just to be on the safe side.

She walked into the orphanage; all the adults were outside, too busy bootlicking Bruce Wayne to pay attention to anything else.

The kid was walking down the stairs, ready to leave this dump.

'Gabby! She flew into her arms. 'What took you so long?'

'It's only been three days.'

'Three days too long!' the kid grumbled.

'Sheesh, in Gotham City, impatience will get you a bullet in the dome or a one-way ticket to Blackgate.'

'Blackgate?'

'Prison.' Gabby pulled out a ratty black wig and stocking cap. 'Run upstairs and put these on.'

'Why?'

'Disguise.'

'Like a K. C. Undercover?'

'Sure?'

'Ok!'
