Yoimiya turned to the game master and asked, "Hey, if I roll a nat-20, can I seduce the orc into changing its ways?"

Clorinde frowned. "I…suppose."

Navia grinned. "Oo, go for it! I'm curious how our DM will make this work for her story."

Privately, Clorinde wondered the same thing.

Still though, the odds of getting a winning throw were slim to none.

Yoimiya got it.

Clorinde tried not to scream. This wasn't how the campaign was supposed to go. She had an epic battle planned for Pete's sake.

Well, the best-laid plans of mice and men. Time to improvise.

"Okay, um … Gorlog the Vengeful is so moved by your charms that he repents his wicked ways.

"'I see now that your heart is more golden than all the treasures in the world. I no longer desire conflict. Henceforth, I foreswear evil and commit myself to the path of righteousness.'

"At last, peace returns to the world. Your quest has drawn to its end."

"Huzzah," cheered Fischl, "the retinue of the Princezzisn hath vanished evil from the land! Rejoice my subjects, for the heroes triumph!"

Yoimiya pulled the string of a little tube, releasing confetti. Navia tooted a kazoo in celebration. Fischl continued monologuing.

Clorinde drooped. She'd done so much planning for this campaign. She'd been meticulous and thorough, hoping to make the best quest possible. One week's worth of planning all upended by a lucky roll.
