Character Questions: Nox
Full name: Nox of Rome, Nox of the Night, Nicola 'Nico' Roma (the mortal name she took upon being hired by Kim and Mai for Maddonosuke Fashion)
Nickname: Mother Night, Duchess of the Dark, Nyx (if you're Greek), Matron of the Dusk
Occupation: Roman Primordial Goddess of the Night, the Dark, the Shadows, the Veil, Fertility and Prophecy, Divine Historian, Model for Maddonosuke Fashion
Appearance: Whereas Raiden and Fujin give an appearance that shows they're divine, and Ammy and Izanami do not choose to look like women of their native country if given amazing genetics, Nox is a middle ground between the two philosophies.
The Goddess of the Night looks European, but Italian wouldn't be your first guess if she were to ask you to guess. Her skin, while not snow white, is very pale, unlike her gray irises, bordering white. Her hair is a lovely silver, and her powers as a Deity allow her to style and change its length to whatever she fancies, though she prefers medium-length bobs. Her lips are the most inviting pink shade, and her default expression encapsulates an enigmatic invitation, driving how much of an enigma Nox appears to be to those who don't know her.
Age: Unknown, though she is around the same age as Ammy
Mannerisms: How Nox acts differs depending on who's asking. To someone who Nox considers a friend (like Ammy), Nox is that rich friend you have who knows there's a clear difference in social class but doesn't rub it in. She doesn't see it as a factor and loves you regardless. Despite that aura she gives off, Nox is also incredibly loyal. Using Ammy as an example, they met through Tsukuyomi. Nox had zero reason to befriend her, but she did so anyway. It didn't take long for her and Ammy to build a titanium strength bond to the point where Nox would go to where she was weakest to help her. She hangs with highborn (her fellow deities) with no shame but isn't afraid to mingle and build bonds with those of lower stature.
To allies or acquaintances, Nox is friendly but gives off strong mystery vibes. I wouldn't go as far as to say that Nox is unpredictable, but you don't know what she'll do next or what she's capable of.
To enemies, Nox is avoided and is an absolute monster. While not a Pantheon Leader like Ammy, Nox is still incredibly powerful, especially as a Primordial Goddess. When your Pantheon Leader is horrified of you, other people see you as a massive headache. Depending on who you mention Nox to, they might as well shit their pants. As I said in her Kombatant Koncepts, to some, Nox is a villainous Goddess as she thrives on stealing Champions from other Deities, which is partially why she extended an offer to Dakini to become her Champion as it would spite both Phae and The Great Spirit. (Ooh, very interesting)
What does he/she wear?: Nox, like Ammy, takes her Divine Dominion seriously as the Goddess of the Night - her wardrobe shows this. Whatever she wears, it's pitch black like the night sky. Nox prefers formal wear, such as dresses and gowns. You'd sooner catch Nox dead than wear anything remotely casual; it's not her style.
Favorite color: Black
What is he/she good at?: A master at stealth, customary for being the Goddess of the Night. Nox also controls Dark Matter as her element. She can also use Elder Magic (ala Wes from my FE stories). In kombat, she prefers to get physical. Her two preferred types of weaponry are the Rapier and the Spatha. Nox is also naturally gifted at modeling as she pulls off the elegant dresses she normally wears. She would use this when integrated into mortal life and became the first hire of Maddonosuke Fashion, modeling the more formal pieces of clothing Mai creates. She is also a well-documented historian of both mortal and divine timelines, which assisted Dakini and Mulan during their time in her library.
What is he/she bad at?: While we have seen Nox as a well-meaning, well-intentioned, diehard, loyal friend, that goes against her innate nature as the Primordial Goddess of the Night. More often than not, Nox is frightening, passive-aggressive, and, at times, antisocial and conniving. The fact she acts the way we see her shows how much of an influence Ammy has on her. If not for Tsukuyomi introducing her to Ammy while alive, Nox would've been one of Ammy's enemies.
What does he/she want?: To be there for her bestie.
What is his/her goal?: To help our heroes prepare for future threats thanks to her extensive knowledge of Earthrealm's history.
What lie does he/she believe?: That she'll get bored of being benevolent and fall victim to her innate nature.
What flaw results from the lie?: She will often have spurts of her old personality taking control over the Nox we have been getting to know.
What truth does he/she learn?: She will never tire of doing good, not just for survival's sake.
What is his/her background?
Nox was created when the One Being was split into the realms. Unlike Ammy and Izanami, who were conceived and born, Nox came into existence. Reality needed a counterpart for the Day, so enter Nox, the Primordial Goddess of the Night, if you follow the Roman Pantheon. At first, she ensured that night came after day as that was her reason for existing. Over time, she began to find some self of identity and, with it, identity for the nighttime. And what she felt when she started to find herself was what most people feel when they think of the dark.
Mystery, the unknown, and intrigue.
Nox would continue to carve her identity around those three things, molding her into a Goddess that, while unknown and hard to read, was just as inviting and intoxicating to get to know. In the realm of the deities, she would eventually meet the Japanese Goddess of the Moon, Tsukuyomi, and become Nox's first legitimate friend. In contrast to her highborn attitude and elegant demeanor, Tsukuyomi was a sly, bold, and sleek deity, which intrigued Nox. A victim of her own success, as it were. But it was because of her friendship with the Moon Goddess that she would come to meet her soon-to-be best friend Amaterasu, the Japanese Goddess of the Sun and Leader of the Japanese Pantheon of Gods.
You see, the realm of deities had an imposter among them, and the other deities decided that someone should investigate and figure out who that person was and promptly remove them. Tsuki recommended her wife. The problem is that Ammy, at the time, spent most of her time in Japan, watching over the people and her children. Nox found that interesting, so she traveled with her friend to Japan to convince Ammy to help them. After some convincing, she did so under the condition that Tsuki took her place temporarily, leaving Ammy with Nox.
Nox took the opportunity to ask Ammy a LOT of questions. Why is she doing this when she has only been to the realm of the Gods once? Why only guard Japan when the entire planet benefits from her keeping the sun up? And surprisingly, Ammy answered every question with patience and proper thought. But the TL: DR of the answers is because even though she has every right not to, doing so is morally right. And little did Ammy know, that answer shook Nox.
Until that point, Nox reveled in being a Primordial Deity and scaring her fellow Pantheon Deities out of their boots, and here is a Pantheon Leader who does things out of her own sense of morals. Jupiter was nothing like this, as he was selfish, arrogant, and greedy. So after the pair found out that Buluc (who we know as Kotal Kahn) was the imposter and the other Gods threw him out and thanked Ammy for finding him out, she returned to her temple to continue protecting the Japanese people and her island. Nox would take any opportunity to see Ammy as she grew to like the Sun Goddess. Over time, Ammy would enjoy Nox as her attitude differed from that of her wife at the time, and her fellow deities were a welcome change.
It was through her bond with Ammy that she would meet the Maddox Family and the Shio/Sannosuke Family and, just as easily, integrate herself into their lives, taking up the mortal name Nicola 'Nico' Roma and becoming the second model for Mai and Kim's Fashion Company, Maddonosuke Fashion. If she isn't doing her day job (and doing her day job well), she is either in her temple in Rome or with Ammy, as she is still her best friend and enjoys every second she has with her.
Additional Questions for the Duchess of the Dark?
How often does Nox model for Mai and her business? And is it anything other than formal wear?
As Nox only wears formal clothing, that's all she will also model. So, while not often since Maddonosuke Fashion has wardrobe of varying categories, Nox is now the go-to model for any formal pieces, which takes some work away from Kim as before she modeled all the clothes from Maddonosuke Fashion.
Does Nox see the benefit of helping Dakini for her own gain?
While Nox can use Dakini to further her past time of horrifying her fellow Pantheon Deities, Nox is also aware that Dakini accepted in order to not feel useless in comparison to everyone around her. So Nox will make Dakini her first champion, give her instruction to make use of her gifts and powers, and then she'll let her loose, so to speak. A further testament to having Ammy as a bestie, as normally she would simply use Dakini as an extension of her ideals/will.
Will Nox follow Izanami's lead to Edenia?
No. Nox much prefers her temple in Rome. She would just spend more time among mortals than before; she was rather reclusive unless Ammy was involved. If anything, she might go to Edenia to check on Dakini since she will be her first champion, and as such, she will express concern over her well-being. Remember, even though she offered to turn Dakini into one of her champions, she urged Dakini to think it through instead of impulsively agreeing. Once again, going against her nature since before, she wouldn't have been so hesitant to agree to someone who was that eager to be her champion.
