Her Soft Smile

A ray of sunlight shined through the half-open curtains and lit up Tohru's face. She was sound asleep and she was smiling. Kyo was awake and he was watching her sleep. She was smiling softly and he wondered what she could be dreaming about.

They had been living together for a year and Kyo had never been happier than during this past year. He brushed a few strands away from her face and tucked it behind her ear. He slid his thumb and gently traced the outline of her lips. It was the first thing he noticed about Tohru and the first thing he liked. It was her soft smile every time she spoke to him. Apart from his master, this was the first time anyone had shown him anything other than contempt or hatred. Being cursed by the cat, the hatred and contempt of the members of the Sohma clan were all he had ever known and he believed that it would last the rest of his life that he would spend locked up in this prison.

When he met Tohru, life seemed more bearable to him. And when she smiled at him, he felt like a different future than the one waiting for him was possible. Without him realizing it, Tohru had made a place for herself in his heart, until it belonged to her completely. He had fallen in love with her, even if he knew that love was impossible. What future could he give her when he was the cat and had to be locked away ? He could not impose that on her.

But his feelings were way too strong and he had been selfish. He wanted to be by her side, he wanted to see her every day, to talk to her, to laugh with her. He wanted her soft smiles to be just for him. With her, he was happier. The darkness he had always known was lightening up little by little. When the curse was broken, he could finally experience this love with her.

Tohru opened her eyes slightly. She looked up at him and her face lit up.

"Good morning."

"Good morning Kyo-kun."

They kissed. Tohru pulled away slightly and smiled at him.

"I was having a wonderful dream."

"What were you dreaming about ?"

"About you and our future."

Kyo kissed her on the tip of her nose and Tohru laughed lightly. Kyo's life had changed. It was more beautiful and brighter thanks to Tohru and the softness she had put into his life.
