"Pass me that streamer!"
"Which one!"
"The purple one!"
"But I'm using it!"
"Fine. Silver then!"
The reunion was tomorrow. Both Mary and Ellen were decorating Casey's. The owner, Joe Carrey immediately gave them permission to rent the ice cream place. Mary, Ellen, and Grace were decorating this place with purple and silver streamers. Grace was in the back getting things ready for their friends, they had to make sure everything was ready, especially since all the former Unicorns were bringing their families and partners.
Grace and Joe were making sure everything was ready for the guests. Grace and Joe were double checking there was nothing allergic for anyone, there was enough ice cream for everybody; especially for Lila. Her favorite ice cream flavor "Million Dollar Mocha" was discontinued over a decade ago to Lila's disappointment. With her pregnacy, she had her cravings. Joe managed to make a close replica to that flavor, since he also owned a small ice cream company as well.
"Enough straws?" Grace asked holding a clipboard.
"Yep." Joe nods.
"Whipped cream, cherries, coconut flakes, chocolate syrup?"
"Yep."
"Peanuts locked up?"
"Check."
Grace double checked everything. This reunion would be awesome. Everyone was coming, even Ashley. She was flying all the way from London, England just for them. Too bad her husband couldn't come, as a heart surgeon he was always busy. Ashley DeHaven was a doctor herself, but she wanted to visit anyways. She mentioned she missed her friends from the Unicorn Club, since most of them kept in touch over the years.
"I can't believe you ladies stayed close." Joe was much older now, he bought this place from the old owner Casey before he passed away a few years ago. Most of the Unicorns had a huge crush on the former college student when they were kids.
"True friends are forever." She liked all the Unicorns, some on a closer basis, like Mary and Ellen, but was looking forward to meeting some old friends again. Especially Janet. Janet was the closest to Tamera and Betsie, as the founder of the club, she was bringing along her husband, Johnny Buck. He was no longer in show business, but his old music was somewhat popular on YouTube and Spotify. He promised to sing, just for old times sake.
"That's good. I rarely speak to my college buddies anymore, you girls are still friends." Joe said wistfully. "God I feel old. I have a grandchild now."
"How old is he?" Grace asks curiously.
"Seventeen months. Time flew by. Last time I seen all of you, I was attending SVU, now you are all grown up."
"Now you are making me feel old. Most of the Unicorns are married or have busy careers. Some have kids." Grace was feeling the biological clock, her relationship with Ben was still new, but she was fantasizing about marriage, white picket house, and kids. Their conversation was interrupted by Mary.
"Knock knock." Mary smiles.
"How's everything?" Grace asks.
"Pretty much all done. Ellen already made a video, we put up the collages, and decorated the whole place." Ellen walked in a few seconds later.
"It looked like a grape exploded." Ellen was covered in scotch tape. "I have a date tonight." She was nervous as heck. "I have to run home and get ready."
"What's his name?" Grace asked with curiosity.
"Sam Burgess. He works with Winston at Wolf." He was cute. Ellen had success with Lila's app, she had a few dates lined up. Unlike Grace, she wasn't in a hurry to find love. She was thinking of finding her calling instead. Maybe return to college.
"That's good. Is he coming to the reunion?" Mary asked.
"Maybe. I hate to arrive without a date." Ellen was excited to see her old friends. Especially the twins. She wanted to grill them about the storyline on Jessica's soap opera. Victoria was acting odd, Britney had no clue she was being stalked.
Grace looked at the clock.
"It's after five?! Oh shit! Ben is coming over at seven!" Grace was planning to take their relationship to the next level. She had a cold bottle of red wine chilling in the fridge.
"Jake is with Mike, I have to go home and cook dinner."
"Doesn't your husband cook?" Joe asked. He always cooked for his family.
"It's just leftovers. A microwave oven should be enough. Besides Jake is spending time with his grandma tomorrow." Her husband Mike wasn't close to his mom, but Ms McAllery spoiled her grandson rotten. Mary wanted to show off Mike at the reunion.
"Yea, and I have to look over college applications. The fall semester is starting this year, and I want to apply for early admission." Ellen was still thinking about what her major would be. Definitely something to do with people. Communications? Poli Sci? She had to think about it.
"Well looking forward to meeting everyone." Joe gets up to stretch. When he looked at his restaurant he smiled. "Wow."
Casey's was filled with purple decorations. The silver and purple streamers were hanging off the ceiling, the matching balloons were on the corners, and the tables were covered in shades of purple.
"It doesn't look like my place!" Joe was impressed.
"Just wait till you meet everyone. Don't worry we'll clean up tomorrow after the party. We have permission from the mall owners to stay late. You will be open for business in the morning.'' Grace looked around proudly. She and her two friends worked their asses off getting this place ready.
After Joe locked up, the three friends split up for the night.
A random shopper walking by was taken aback with all the purple inside.
"Did a grape explode?" She walks away chuckling.
