Hey everyone, this is set in an AU (alternate universe) where Sheldon and Missy have never met but are still twin siblings. If you notice any odd character choices, I tried to make them slightly fit into their circumstance but still be the same people (since they would have been raised differently than in the cannon)

Chapter 1: Leaving home

Buzz Buzz

Sheldon Hofstadter's alarm clock went off as he smacked the top. He stretched, got out of bed, and slipped his sandals on"

"Mmm what're you doing" his foster brother Leonard said as he woke up and grabbed his glasses

"Checking the mail"

"MISSY"

Missy Rostenkowski's foster mom screamed into her room forcing her to wake up

"Me and your father need to work early so I need you to make breakfast, thank you" she said before abruptly closing the door.

"Ugghhh" Missy moaned as she fell back into bed

Sheldon ran outside in his slippers straight into the cold New Jersey weather, and found an empty mailbox. He went back inside, noticing yesterday's mail on the table he scurried through it

"Did it come" Leonard said as he ran downstairs

"No" Sheldon said putting it all back "it probably isn't coming-"

"Woah woah don't say that" Leonard said refusing to let him lose hope

"Alright so you'll have it delivered tomorrow" Sheldon's foster mother Beverly came down on the phone "excellent" she said before hanging up

"Hey mom, Sheldon's Caltech acceptance letter is coming soon" Leonard told her

"I fail to see how that information is relevant to me at the moment" Beverly said before leaving "now I need to order your older brothers graduation cake"

"You mean Michael and Sheldon's graduation cake" Leonard tried to correct

"Oh I didn't see it necessary but Sheldon would you like a cake as well" she coldly asked

Sheldon shook his head "I'm.. I'm good, excess sugar can be lethal" Sheldon stuttered

"Alright" Beverly said before getting on the phone again leaving a disappointed Sheldon and Leonard

Missy made her classic chocolate chip pancakes and hashbrowns as her younger foster sister and five foster brothers. She opened a window to let that cool Modesto air in. Her foster dad came down in his police uniform and kissed Bernadette and their five brothers goodbye, not even noticing her in the kitchen.

"Hey Missy your hair looks really nice today" Bernadette told her

"Thanks, I've been using this new conditioner-" she was cut off but something gross slapped the back of her head, she peeled it off to reveal some peanut butter toast as those little shits laughed at her.

She sucked it up and threw the toast away before going to wash the peanut butter out of her hair.

To get his mind off his caltech response Sheldon distracted himself by going to the comic book store, he already had acceptance letters from MIT, Princeton, and East Texas Tech (graduating High school at 13 will do that) but he really had his sights set on Caltech so he could meet his idol Stephen Hawking, and be someplace without much snow

He walked back home after looking through new releases he can't afford called The Boys, it was around 2 so his foster brothers and sister should be home from school. "YOU GOT IN" Leonard said running out to him "you got in" he said showing Sheldon his acceptance letter to Caltech

Leonard reached to fist bump him and after a moment Sheldon hesitantly and gently fist bumped him. They ran inside "Mom Dad I got accepted into Caltech" Sheldon said clearly excited

"Did you go through our mail?"

"Well I didn't but-"

"Sheldon we set rules and ask them to be followed, do not go through our mail" Beverly said as Alfred agreed with her "you act as if this is a new development" Beverly said getting back to writing her book. Sheldon sighed but sucked it up before going to look through his things.

Missy went through her locker, not that any of this homework and trash mattered, summer was so close and she was gonna be on either the beach or partying everyday even if it kills her.

"Hey Missy I gotta tap out" her friend Stacy said switching places to listen to Theresa's insufferable bragging about her summer plans

"I even have a perfect way to sneak into the Cyndi Laufer concert in Phoenix, a guy at the most prestigious hotel will provide me and boyfriend with fake IDs to get into the VIP lounge" Theresa bragged "what about you girls, you doing anything this summer"

One girl claimed they were going to Italy, another was gonna spend all summer at the arcade, and then it was her turn. "Oh I'm definitely gonna head to Los Angeles" Missy claimed crossing her arms

"Really" that bitch Theresa said crossing her arms "your fake family isn't gonna keep you here all summer"

"Hell no" Missy said before walking away, doubting herself. NO, no doubting herself she was gonna have an awesome summer

Sheldon finished packing the last of his boxes into the car, he was leaving three months early because he already signed up for a few research projects over the summer. Leonard was the only one helping him while Alfred was ready to drive him to the airport when ready. He finished packing his backpack with some textbooks, comic books and his only picture of his mother when she was pregnant with him. It was a little torn but it was nice to have. He carried it downstairs and tossed it in the car

"I guess this is it" Leonard choked out "off to start changing the world" he stuttered

"I'll.. I'll miss you" Sheldon said trying to remain proper

"...I love ya man" Leonard said hugging his brother while Sheldon awkwardly patted his back

That was the only real goodbye Sheldon got before he was taken to the airport and about to start the next phase of his life, he was heading to Pasadena California

Missy showed up back home and of course had a bunch of laundry to do. After she was finished with that she had to help her foster mom make dinner. After some awkward silence and Joey making six jokes about corn dogs she decided to finally ask "so what do you guys think about going on vacation this summer"

"Like what?" her foster dad asked

"Well Theresas going to Phoenix"

"Missy we both have work and I'm not paying for all nine of us to go" he insisted

After pulling that knife in her back out she later just laid in bed and read her magazines. Later while Bernadette was keeping her up with incessant snoring she went to the bathroom. She heard laughter, oh sure going on vacation cost too much but sipping champagne with your friends isn't

"Man how do you keep those kids behaving"

"Oh we gotta work around the clock" her foster mom bragged "heed my warning, do not adopt if you can still have kids your wallets will suffer for it"

Missy's jaw was on the floor, first all she does for them doesn't matter, and now she was a mistake. She went back to her room and silently packed some clothes and magazines. While going through her old stuff she found an old torn picture of her real dad before she threw it away, she was so close to leaving it there before going out the window until she caved and went back to put the photo in her pocket. She snuck out the window as she's done a thousand times and hotwired their car, she was going on her own vacation, she was heading to Pasadena California
