She had to hand it to Kouga; he took the news like a champ.

He was still pouting, face lined with confusion between sneaking glances at her, but he hadn't challenged Sesshoumaru to a fight. He was outnumbered—Inuyasha and the rest of them were ready to jump in if needed—but there seemed to be a general acceptance in his attitude.

"I think I got through to him," she said, sighing in relief.

Sesshoumaru chuckled softly. "I will not take your victory away from you, but there is much to be said regarding youkai traditions and courting."

Kagome looked up at him, laying her plate on the ground. Not being in any hurry, they'd decided another night in the area wouldn't hurt, and for once, Inuyasha hadn't put up a fight. She'd initially thought his arguments and pushy attitude during their hunt for the shards were due to not wanting to be caught unawares. He'd never liked staying in one place for too long, constantly pushing them to sleep only as long as they needed to before moving on.

She'd only had snippets of his childhood, mostly because he was so unwilling to share them, but the longer he stayed in one place, the more likely he was to be attacked or had his supplies stolen.

Kagome snorted. No wonder he always scarfed his food down. Youkai were always territorial, but instincts and survival made it worse when pack was involved—and potential mates. She leaned her head against the pelt around her shoulders. "Is that what this is about?"
