"Hey Todd!" Ken waves as he walks in with Jade.
"Hey. The usual?"
"You know it." Jade thanks Todd as she drinks her martini.
"Here you go." Todd hands Ken his beer. "On the tap, as usual." Ken was a purist, he preferred drinking his beer straight out of the tap.
"Thanks man." Ken takes a sip.
"Ooo. Mind if I talk to some old friends?" Jade waves at her former ballet costars who were currently playing some darts. Once she was gone, Ken and Todd talked like old friends.
"How's business?" The bar was packed. It was only mid afternoon, and every table and chair was full.
"Busy." Todd looked exhausted, but was really happy. "I may have to hire a few people." He excused himself to serve a customer. After he put the money in the drawer, he comes back to Ken. "It's like the Superbowl." The bar was packed every night, Can You Engage! brought in new customers. "I never seen it so busy since we were kids."
"Too bad I was away in college while you were working, I would have brought a few of my friends." He heard from Winston that Todd dropped out during sophomore year to work for a living.
"Believe me, you didn't miss much." Todd nods at Cheryl Thomas and her stepsister Annie who were with their dates. "But, nowadays, I'm doing good." Todd couldn't believe it. He had tons of new customers, people he never seen before were pouring in the bar. "How's things with you?"
They chatted for a minute till one of Todd's bartenders tapped Todd.
"Gotta go. Business." He had a phone call.
"No prob." Ken takes his beer and goes back to Jade's side.
"Wilkins's Brewery."
"Todd?"
"Hey Andrea! Sorry about the noise." The bar was packed with people. "What's up?" He always liked talking to Andrea, every time she called, Todd's business picked up.
"The ratings are off the roof! Todd, your episode was one of the top ten in Neilson's Ratings! Consider it a win!"
"Alright!" Todd smiles. He was so glad he agreed to be a contestant. "Just to let you know, the girls are performing this weekend." The band wasn't showing on television, but their contracts said that every contestant must perform in their perspective venues. "I'll be livesteaming this weekend." Todd worked his ass off promoting them as well as his bar.
"That's great!" Andrea sounded so happy. "The reason I called, is asking about that favour I asked about." A while back ago Andrea asked Todd about running the show's socials.
"I did think about it." Todd thought long and hard about his decision. "I'm afraid I can't." It was a hard choice. "I love to, but as you can see, I won't have any time; plus I don't want to be disqualified for conflict of interest." Plus his new relationship with Suzanne. Todd was busy enough as it is.
"I understand." Andrea sounded disappointed. "No worries, I'll find someone. Good luck, and congrats! I knew you'll be a good choice for the show. I'll talk to you later!"
"Bye!" Todd almost regretted giving up the job, but when he talked to his parents, his dad told Todd that running the socials would hurt his place on the show due to his friendship with the show's creator. Seeing Ken waving frantically, he walks over to him. "Another beer?"
Ken looked pale, he was holding a phone.
"It's Winston. He was attacked." Brooke couldn't get a hold of Todd, so she called Winston instead.
"Give me the phone. Brooke? How's Win?" Winston was Todd's and Ken's best friend. "Oh my god. How?" They had a empty house, no burglar would bother. "Is he okay?" Todd sighs in relief. Winston's injuries wasn't serious, he was getting discharged from the ER soon. "A cell? Guess that was the only thing that was valuable." Winston was robbed just for his phone. "Invest in a alarm. I can give you some names, my parents had a company that kept a close eye on the old house." He listens closely. "Hmm hmm. Tell Win to take it easy, especially you." He knew how overprotective they were to one another. "Thanks Brooke." He hangs up the phone and hands to back to Ken.
"What a way to start a marriage." Ken was shaking his head. "Guy probably thought they had a empty house." Los Angeles had a problem with squatters. "How's Winston?"
"He's fine, he'll be home soon."
"That's good." Ken pays Todd for the drinks and tip.
"Thanks man." Todd puts it in the cash register. Todd was glad Winston was okay, but why would anyone want to rob a empty house? His thoughts were interrupted by a customer.
"Sir? I like to order something!"
"I'll be right there." Todd will never get tired of hearing the cash register. Thanks Andrea.
