Lila couldn't help but watch the painters painting her daughter's room. It was pink, but not overwhelmingly girlie, Lila chosen a sunrise theme.
"As you can see, the room is coming along nicely Miss Fowler." Ginny Belasca says as she rambles on about Lila's colour scheme. "The crib you ordered should be coming in a few days, it will be assembled per your request."
"That's good." Lila says absently. She was wondering what to do next with her life. With her dad retiring soon, she needed to take over the reins. Plus her app. She had another new offer from Google. She was rich, but the amount of money they offered almost made her head spin. As much as she knew she should be happy, she felt conflicted.
"Lila? Lila!" Ginny was clicking her fingers on her face.
"What? Sorry." She was currently thinking about her maternity leave. George said he was staying till Lila was ready to work, and already hired her a assistant. She should be grateful, but once again felt like she was being given special treatment instead of being treated like any other employee. "What did you say?"
"I was just asking about the decorations. Would you like it from Disney or something original?"
"Something original." Lila was wondering if she was good enough to take over the company. She was on the board, but rarely came to meetings. Maybe she should have done what Bruce was doing and opened up her own company.
Once she and Ginny finalized the details about the baby room, she sent her on her way. She picked up her phone.
"Fowler Enterprises."
"Hey Gina. Can I speak to my father?"
"I'm sorry Miss Fowler, Mr Fowler is about to go in a meeting. Can I take a message?"
"No thanks. Have a good day." Lila hangs up. Feeling her baby kick, she looks down at her belly. "You miss grandpa too?" Hmm. She looked at the clock. "Want to go for a drive?"
Lila was so glad she was properly dressed. Her hair was in a tight chignon, her makeup neutral, but flawless, and her outfit was fit and professional. She had to make a good expression on the company, might as well start now. She smiled at the security who jumped when she walked in.
"Hello Damon. I'm here to pick up my visitor's pass."
Damon shakes his head.
"Miss Fowler, that isn't necessary, you can come and go whenever you please."
"It's Lila. But give me a pass anyways." She smiled charmingly at him as he reluctantly wrote one. "Thanks." She wanted to be treated fairly. Her father made his fortune from nothing, and Lila wanted to be respected like her father, not like a spoiled trust fund baby.
Ignoring all the nervous workers that were pretending to be busy all this time, she went to the elevator to head to the top floor where the cooperate boardroom was. As soon as the golden doors opened, she brushed by her father's secretary who was talking on the phone, and who immediately dropped it when Lila came strolling in.
"Miss Fowler! You can't go in there! Your father just started his meeting!" She reluctantly protested. "Miss Fowler!"
"It's Lila. Plus I'm supposed to be here." She opens the door, and casually strolls right inside.
Her father looked startled to see Lila, but didn't stop his presentation.
"Excuse me. Ahem. As I was saying, Apple is continuously coming ahead with new products, however..."
Lila was calm and collected as she took a empty seat and sat down in a middle spot. She declined to switch seats with a executive, she wanted to earn her spot by merit. Taking out her notebook from her leather briefcase, she started taking notes.
George didn't stop talking, but raised his eyebrows at Lila. Lila pretended not to notice his executives exchanging looks, she was supposed to be here after all.
Once the meeting ended, George waited for everyone to leave before walking over to Lila.
"Honey? What's going on? I thought you were home decorating the Patman Mansion?" George and Grace were currently looking at new homes in the Sweet Valley Historic section, they needed their own privacy.
"I have decorators for that." Lila dismissed him. "I need to be here." She was pregnant, but was not a invalid. "Tell me what I missed, and I'll try to make it to the next meeting."
George shook his head.
"I have it under control." He knew he was handing over the reins to Lila, but that was before she got pregnant. "You should concentrate on rest. My vice president can take care of things."
"Because I'm pregnant?" She saw her father's face. "Dad, I'm a grown woman. You wanted me to take over the reins eventually."
"It's not that I don't trust you, it's because you are at risk at the moment." Lila's pregnancy was considered risky.
"Then I'll take care of myself. That's what assistants are for." Her dad hired her one for her work, but she wanted her own personal assistant. "Fill me in what Fowler Enterprises is doing. I heard that Apple is launching their new phone this fall."
An hour later, Lila had to hide her glee. Her father is allowing her to sit at the executive meetings, but only part time. She had big plans for the company, she wanted to take Fowler Computers to the future.
