"Isn't this overkill?" Winston was watching the technician putting up the cameras. "It was a random robbery." His head didn't hurt anymore, but he was glad it was him and not Brooke that was home.
"A random robbery. Please." Brooke spared no expense for security. The night after Winston got attacked she ordered the most expensive security system there was. "You are worth everything." She smiles as Winston hugs her.
"Same here baby." The day after Winston was released from the hospital, they were too spooked to return home. The police concluded it was either a squatter or a homeless man that broke in, but were startled to find someone living there. They knocked out Winston with an unknown weapon and robbed him of his phone. "I'm just glad our furniture came in." They stayed in a hotel for a week while the police and security company did their business, luckily their furniture arrived the day the security company was finishing up their system. "Never thought I get sick of burgers." They ate out the entire time they were away, but Winston was looking forward to eating a home cooked meal.
"Mr and Mrs Egbert, the cameras are done, here let me show you how to set up your security code."
Later that night, Brooke smiles as she and her new husband click glasses.
"To our new home. Hopefully today is better homecoming than last time."
"Amen." Brooke clicks her glass and drinks her champagne. Hearing her phone ringing, she silently turns it off.
"You're not answering it?" Winston was surprised.
"Daddy has everything under control. Besides, they can always leave a message." She takes Winston's hand. "We have room for dessert?"
"Always. Luckily the bed is assembled." That was the one thing he put together first. He takes her hand. "Shall we?"
The morning light shined in Winston's eyes. He squeezed Brooke closer, he wanted to hold her just a while longer. Seeing her waking up, he kisses her head.
"Morning."
"Morning." Brooke said sleepily. They were exhausted from last night. Not from dessert, but from unpacking. Both were fully clothed. "I need a shower." Her clothes were sticking to her body.
"I'll make coffee." Winston was dying for a shower, but he wanted Brooke comfortable. Once she went to the bathroom, Winston heads to the kitchen.
He was just setting the dishes down for breakfast when Brooke rushed in looking pale.
"Honey? What's wrong?" Brooke was shaking.
Brooke was holding her cell. She silently hands it to Winston.
'Winston. It's Todd. There was a accident. My dad. Suzie. Call me.'
Brooke was dying to know what was going on, Winston was outside talking to Todd. She saw the message, hopefully things were okay. When Winston walked back in, she looked up worriedly. Winston looked stricken.
"That was Todd. His dad. He was in a accident."
"Oh Winnie." She walks up to Winston and hugs him. She didn't know Bert Wilkins well, but Todd was his best friend. "Is he okay?"
"For now. But." Winston swallowed. "He's in jail. DUI."
"And Suzanne?" She saw his tears.
"She's in intensive care. Her parents are flying in from Vermont. Todd, he wants me to come home."
"Say no more." She grabs her car keys. "I'll call for my assistant. She can make arrangements for this." Their house was a mess, they barely unpacked. "Pack a suitcase."
Before they left, Brooke sent the alarm codes to her assistant, that way she could clean and organize the house.
"It'll take a few hours to get to Sweet Valley, we can stay at my father's old estate."
"Fine." Winston didn't care. He had to be there for Todd, Todd needed a friend.
