AN: This is my first time writing a self-insert and a Pokémon fanfic, so I'm pretty inexperienced in this. Feel free to review!
"Speech/Talk"
Disclaimer: I do not own Pokèmon (obv)
Minor Changes: 7/17/24
Major Rewrite: 8/3-4/24
Starting Prologue:
It has been two years since I entered the world of Pokèmon, well past me I guess, I died by pushing away three of my friends from a car driven by who I assumed to be a drunk driver. I don't know if I stole someone's body but I believe my soul was fused with the alternate me, the Pokèmon world me. I also have memories of the new me (?) which is nice so I wouldn't look or act weird and suspicious around anybody. Last of all I'm now Genera Jenson, cool right?
Anyway, even with the memories from my previous life, there was still something I struggled to remember in my current life, some downright shrouded in the deep mist of fog, dark as the deep ocean waters as if tampered by something powerful. Well... I do understand and talk to pokèmon for an unknown reason, something I have yet to discover or find out why, but I have decided to not delve deep into it for now.
Anyway, I am nine now, just close to entering the age of becoming a trainer. This is something I very much dream big of, making a name and title for myself that will be shown in the history books and archives. I will soon be able to pick a starter in Professor Oak's laboratory. And pass the hard test to get a sponsorship from the Professor himself.
Downtown, there is a somewhat big school in Pallet Town, got to be friends with the protagonist, Ash, and Gary motherfucking Oak, school is quite nice, and even before I found out to be a reincarnated person. I slammed so hard in exams with near perfect marks and scores, as if they are easy tests.
As for my parents, quite suspicious but... I genuinely believe that their care, love and affection are real and genuine. For why they are quite "sus" heh, got you there, there are complete lack of baby pictures of me, only like four to five year old pictures of me, I find it suspicious but again, decided not to delve much into it, maybe the truth is horrible and I have no way to defend myself, im just a defenseless kid.
Enough about that. There is a very hard test to acquire Professor Oak's sponsorship when you enter the legal age of becoming a trainer. This is why I decided to study hard in case the words of mouth are true that this is indeed, a very hard test, is there a chance it's some sort of trial? Who knows, also I may have to control myself a bit more, I study so hard and intensely I forget something important and even my surroundings.
Moving on, getting a sponsorship, was something I needed to get, that is because they have a ranch or a place for your pokèmon once you exceed the team limit of six, and not only that, you get access to a wide variety of diet, foods for your team, and gadgets like the pokèdex for your journey as a trainer. Not only that, they provide good amounts of money if you help with the research, it can be increased by continuously contributing with Professor Oak's research or if you discover something new.
Speaking of Professor Oak, last year I attended and participated in Professor Oak's summer camp with Ash, Gary, Goh, Serena, and many others I did not recognize. I also joined Goh so I could meet and maybe talk with Mew, but unfortunately, no. BUT GOH STILL SOMEHOW SAW AND MET MEW FOR A FEW SECONDS OR SOMETHING AND I DID NOT, DAMN YOU CANON!
As much as I was sad and disappointed that day, I quickly got over it by talking with many Pokémon like random Rattatas, Pidgeys, and an angry Spearow that always spews swear words and talk shit to everyone. And I assume it's the same one that Ash threw a rock at and pissed off so much that it brought an entire flock to hunt down Ash and Pikachu.
So far, I can't perform moves or do anything supernatural other than understanding Pokémon. I don't feel any Aura or whatever. I don't know how to feel Aura or even tap into it, so maybe I am born special or something. I really don't know, could be another N.
At School:
Air brushes through me like soft waves hitting the shores of Kanto, it did not disturb my intense study on Pokèmon diversity and types, after all i need to be prepared for the sponsorship test. I need it badly.
"Hey Genera!" I hear Ash call, so I look behind and see him running towards me. I wonder what he's up to right now.
"Sup Ash, what are you up to?" I reply with genuine curiosity, I have to be real here. Everything about Ash is insane.
"Well, I just want to know how you get to befriend so many Pokémon! Like, you seem to befriend them so easily!" said Ash
Shit, he noticed, but he will become the same as me once he enters his journey as I remembered in the anime except for the understanding pokèspeech part, maybe we're both blessed by the gods here?
I sighed. "Well, Ash, all you gotta do is, uh, treat them nicely as if they are people and your friends, and always be nice to them, except for bad or rude Pokémon, of course," I said to Ash, hoping he'll buy that explanation.
"Ah, I see! Maybe this will help me achieve my goal as a Pokémon Master!"
"Jeez Ash, you're way too loud. Anyways, what's a Pokémon Master?" I asked. I know he doesn't even know what it is, but I do like talking to Ash even though he's such a chatterbox. I just want to know him better.
"Uhh…. I don't… know…" He replied stutterly.
"Oh Arceus, Ash, you don't even know? It's your goal and you don't know?" I smile at Ash. Ah, what a nice idiot you are, Ash.
"Um.. maybe I have to think more about it, I guess…"
"Well Ash, whatever that is, you will achieve it," I smiled at Ash.
"Oh, thanks Genera! I knew you're a really good friend! Unlike that rude Gary who always boasts about becoming a better Pokémon Trainer."
Jesu- I mean Arceus, was Gary really that bad to Ash? He's just teasing. "He can't be that bad Ash, he's just teasing you no worries!" I replied with intent to convince.
"No seriously, he's such a meanie! He won't stop saying 'smell ya later'! And keeps calling me names!"
I chuckled as I pictured how they argue and do their shenanigans as usual, they did split a broken pokèball together so I know very well they are great friends, even if they don't show it to anyone.
"Hey, what's so funny?" Ash said. I was silent and my face showed with a smirk. "Eh, it's nothing, Ash."
"Sure... Anyways, what are you reading Genera? Must be something for a nerd like you,"
Wow, calling a me a nerd, how rude of this twerp, anyway this book is pretty helpful. I need to learn more about pokèmon diversity and stuff to pass the exams in perfect or near perfect scores so I can flex with my currently inflating ego.
"Well, I'm reading one of Professor Oak's books about Pokémon diversity and types. This is for my future, of course. We will become Pokémon trainers in the future!" I replied back to Ash.
"Oh I see! No wonder why you're so smart, Genera, you pass the exams so easily!" Ash said back. Well, I still have my old knowledge with me so I cheated, pretty much. I wonder if my old skills of computer technology will be helpful here, maybe establish my own company.
I am just about to reply when I get called again by a familiar voice. "Genera! Pack your stuff, we're heading home." Oh yeah, right, my mom is here to pick me up, oh well.
"Well, sorry Ash, seems like my mom is here to pick me up. Gotta go home," I said to Ash.
"Aww, that sucks. Well, see ya tomorrow, Genera!" He waves goodbye to me as I my way towards the school gate
I then head towards my mom's car. I'm not really a car type of guy. Heck, I don't see any similarities to car brands I'm familiar with from my previous life. Well, enough about that. I get into the backseat and make myself comfortable.
As we drove off, I could see the view of the school getting smaller as we headed home, to be honest, I loved my new life more than my previous life. The quality of life here is way better, but I guess it's because of the existence of pokèmon that caused the world to skyrocket in technological advancement.
Moving on, everyday, I'm legit in a state of happiness considering there's so much to learn about this world. Heck, everything is much more interesting compared to my previous life. I do miss my old family, wherever they are... Though I hope they are living normally and great without me and I'm sure my friends I saved will go high and become great for me.
Enough sad thoughts.
I looked at the scenery as we continued heading home from school. I see a flock of Pidgeys flying above the afternoon horizon, the beautiful golden ray of sunlight in the scenery, it's just beautiful. Wish I know how to draw to try to recreate this, maybe as a hobby or something.
(Professor Oak POV)
The upcoming test for the sponsorship is coming considering it's only a year or a few months left until the kids are old enough to become trainers themselves. Every one of them is promising, though there is one that stands alone that piques my interests. Genera Jenson. I noticed that he talks to Pokémon and seems to understand Pokémon too. At first, I thought he could be an Aura user, when I checked, we noticed a huge pool of Aura reserves from this one young fellow, however it is not refined to enough to be used or properly utilized.
I asked a good friend of mine to burrow a Lucario to investigate Genera's uniqueness, the Lucario sensed the powerful Aura from Genera, he, or what I assume to be Aura Sight, temporarily got blinded from his Aura.
However, there is a chance he is a pokèmon himself, Aura varies between individual person and pokèmon, the famous Lucario line is very sensitive and have a high affinity for Aura, but most pokèmon are not close to matching their Aura capacity and efficiency. Pokèmon have way higher Aura than humans and in rare cases, a person sensitive and blessed to Aura can match that of a pokèmon or better, Lucario. Unfortunately, people with such rare power are incredibly, very-very rare, thus not very well researched.
I also secretly watched him interact with the Pokémon, and sure enough, he really does seem to understand what the Pokémon say. He even taught them to perform simple addition math. Furthermore, he stands out more compared to the other kids. He's smarter, he passed exams as if they are easy to answer, he even doodled on the back of the exam papers. Genera, my boy, you are one cheeky kid. There's a likely chance he will pass the test for sponsorship. I'm highly confident in my conclusion. What a promising kid.
(Genera's POV)
Well, I'm now at home, specifically in my bedroom. It's 6 p.m. right now with light rain, but eh, that won't bother me much. Anyways, I gave myself a quick shower after a little troublesome playing with my friends back in school, though it's weird being mentally 16 while physically a 9-10-year-old kid. Not that I care much about it. Not like I will do something bad, I guess. Anyway, there's a Pokémon version of forums and social media like Poketube, Battlenet, etc. There's a lot of amazing and surreal stuff here too, from Pokémon battles, and legendary sightings, to thesis or research papers from Pokémon professors and researchers, something I very much read often and study like there is no tomorrow. Well enough mind rambling.
I sat on the chair looking at the window for a moment before turning on the computer. "I guess I will just watch some battles in the Battlenet," I said to nobody.
"Genera my dear, dinner will be ready soon!" Mom shouted, oh yeah right, the dinner.
"Kay mom! I'll come when it's finished" I shouted back to answer.
I continued looking around the Battlenet searching for anything that piqued my attention. And of course, found it, a match from the Indigo Conference 3 years ago. I also turned on the subtitles because I wanted to see and remember the moves they ordered for their pokèmon.
Announcer/Referee (AR): Ladies and gentlemen, Pokémon trainers and enthusiasts gathered here at the prestigious Indigo League Conference, welcome to a momentous clash between two rising stars of the Conference! And today, amidst the roar of the crowd and the crackle of excitement in the air, we witness a battle that could go down in history.
AR: In the red corner, we have the determined challenger, Sarah, ready to make her mark with her team of Pokémon. And in the blue corner, we have the formidable opponent, Alex, standing firm with his own arsenal of powerful creatures. Both trainers have fought tirelessly to reach this stage, and now they face each other in a showdown of skill and strategy.
Sarah: "Alright, Charizard, let's give it everything we've got!"
Alex: "Blastoise, show them why you're a force to be reckoned with!"
AR: And so it begins, folks. Sarah leads with her Charizard, while Alex counters with his Blastoise. The tension is palpable as the trainers lock eyes, each one ready to give their all in pursuit of victory.
Sarah: "Charizard, Flamethrower, let's go!"
Alex: "Blastoise, meet that fire with a Hydro Pump!"
AR: Charizard unleashes a searing Flamethrower, but Blastoise responds with a powerful Hydro Pump, creating a clash of elements in the center of the battlefield. The outcome of this exchange could set the tone for the rest of the battle.
Sarah: "Charizard, don't back down! Use Dragon Claw!"
Alex: "Blastoise, brace yourself and counter with Skull Bash!"
AR: Charizard charges forward with Dragon Claw, but Blastoise meets the attack head-on with Skull Bash, showing incredible resilience. Now take a hear of the crowd! Such an eruption of cheers from the spectators as both Pokémon display their determination and strength.
Sarah: "Charizard, take to the skies with Fly!"
Alex: "Blastoise, track its movements and use Ice Beam!"
AR: Charizard ascends into the air with Fly, but Blastoise locks onto its target and fires off an icy blast with Ice Beam, aiming to bring Charizard crashing back down. Will Sarah's strategy pay off, or will Alex find a way to turn the tide?
Sarah: "Charizard, dodge and counter with Flamethrower!"
Alex: "Blastoise, hold your ground and retaliate with Hydro Cannon!"
Only to be disturbed again...
"Dinner is ready Genera, come and eat"
Damn it, I guess Battlenet comes later.
As I left my room I immediately met with the rich smell of Tangy Tomato Salad, with the good mix of greens and zesty citrus dressing. Salad at dinner, especially at night is something I don't normally do and eat but the delicious smell is too good to ignore.
"No no, Genera, slow down," my mom laughed a bit. "Slow down, will you? Be respectful while eating," my mom scolds.
"Ah, sorry mom, I couldn't resist the smell. It's just too good."
My mom sighed. "Well that is fair, als-" I cut her off as I realize something.
"Wait, hold on Mom, where's Dad?" I asked, if he was busy with his research job at Silph Co. Then I guess that is fair, it's a big job I guess.
My mom, a bit annoyed at the cutoff bit quickly. "Quick-witted I see." She takes a long breath for a moment before answering. "You see, Dad is currently busy with his job, right now he is probably doing a lot of paperwork." She finished.
"Ah I see mom, hope Dad gets to eat with us next time!" I replied with a cheery happy voice which makes mom give out a wide smile.
We ate together in silence, nothing bad or awkward, we were just enjoying our delicious meal. I hope good things come afterward, all I need to do is put all my sights into studying so I can succeed in my goals.
