King of Salvagers, Masira!
Somewhere at sea
After the Straw Hats left Ruluka Island, having a new crew member, and sailing out to the sea, they saw a ship falling from the sky above them. It got them panicked when the ship descends down into the sea, causing the wave to move the ship.
"Grab on to something!" Zoro suggested, grabs hold of the wooden railing. "Whatever you do, don't let go!"
With that, the Straw Hat pirates does that as they hold onto the railing while Luffy holds on the main mast.
"Why are there ships falling out of the sky?!" Nami shouts as Chopper and Usopp were falling past them, screaming when they're sailing through the big curl.
"I know! This is just an awful dream!" Usopp answered with his eyes widen.
"Great! I love dreams-"
But unfortunately, both Chopper and Usopp headbutted each other, proven that it's not a dream. They then noticed the wooden rubble keeps fallen down from the sky.
"Heads up! I don't think the party is over yet!" Sanji warned them. "It won't stop falling!"
"Ventus! Use your flames to burn them!" Nami ordered.
"And burn the Going Merry with it?!" Ventus exclaimed. "I don't think so!"
"The rudder! Turn the rudder!" Nami shouts, turned to Zoro.
"It'll never work in these waves!" Zoro retorted.
"Luffy! We've gotta protect the ship, it's taking a beating!" Ventus suggested, turns to Luffy.
"Right!" Luffy replied, about to do that when he turns to Usopp. "Usopp?"
"I cast aside my worries and reach deep within to find my happy place." Usopp said in a meditating position. "And when I opened my eyes, this serene landscape is all that will lay before me..."
But unfortunately, Usopp noticed a skeleton fallen in front of him which made him scream in panic with his face pale.
"A SKELETON DEAD GUY!?" Usopp yelled, tossed to Nami.
"Don't throw that nasty thing at me, you idiot!" Nami yelled, tossed a skeleton aside.
"They're falling everywhere!" Sanji shouts.
"I'm surrounded by the dead!?" Usopp exclaims in shudder.
"What is this sky that is got falling?!" Nami yelled.
For sometime later, things had finally settled down and the fallen rubble finally stopped, much to their relief. All except Usopp and Chopper, who's holding to each other in panic.
"All right, why did the ship just fall out of the sky?" Luffy asks when he, Ventus, Zoro, Caius, and Sanji looks up at the sky.
"Captain Error..." Sanji stated.
"The sky is clear, who knows." Zoro added, crossed his arms.
"Just one of the many questions about the Grand Line." Ventus said.
"I knew coming to the Grand Line was a mistake, it freaks me out!" Usopp stated in fright. "First, we travel over a ship graveyard! And now, they're falling out of the sky complete with skeletons!"
Then, Nami noticed the Log Pose pointing at the sky which causes their attention.
"What's wrong, Nami? Problem?" Sanji asks.
"Oh no! The Log Pose is broken, it's pointing into the sky!" Nami told them.
"It's not broken, the Log Pose registers an island with a strong magnetic pull when its needle is reflecting that." Robin corrected her, earns her attention. "If the needle is pointing toward the sky. Then, it must be pointing toward Sky Island."
"Sky Island?!" The Straw Hats exclaimed.
"Are you serious?" Nami questioned.
"There's a floating island up there?!" Luffy said excitedly.
"If there is one, then it's full of skeletons and rigidity old ships!" Usopp stuttered.
"That's ridiculous." Zoro states, looks at the sky. "I don't see anything but sky."
"Hm, that's not exactly how it works." Robin corrects him. "It's not an island above us, but an entire ocean."
"No way!?" Nami exclaims while Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper drop their jaws and glint their eyes in excitement.
"I'm still confused." Sanji said, confused with his arms crossed.
"Well, this is the Grand Line. It never make sense." Caius points out.
"Yeah! Raise the sails and set our course to Sky Island!" Luffy shouts, points his finger at the sky. "Men, are we ready?!"
"Put the rudders down! And point the bow high into the sky!" Usopp adds.
"SKYWARD HOE!?" Luffy and Usopp shouts in unison, much to Robin, Caius, and Robins irritation since they've forgotten the most important detail.
Both Caius and Ventus bonked Usopp and Luffy in the head while Robin uses her Devil Fruit power to cover the rubber Captain's mouth.
"We can't fly up there, idiots." Ventus points out bluntly.
"You can, but I doubt you would leave us behind." Sanji told him, but turns back to Usopp. "Truth hurts, does it? You know, about us that...we can't fly and all that."
"To tell you the truth, all I know about Sky Island is word of myth, rumor." Robin states. "I've never actually seen it."
"Of course not, because it's a lie! Islands don't float in the sky." Nami said logically. "Our Log Pose is broken, and that's all there is."
"Nami, need I to remind you that logic doesn't work on the Grand Line?" Ventus told her, causing the navigator to flinch at the reminder.
"He's right, Ms. Navigator." Robin agrees to the young Dragoon. "You're trying to fix something that's not even broken. We should be trying to find a way to get to Sky Island. You really need to learn to trust your instruments. No matter how crazy things get or how where the situation is we find ourselves in, never doubt the Log Pose, out here on the water. This is one of the most steadfast and unbreakable rules. What we should be doubting is the common sense we all have that tells us an island cannot exist in the sky on an ocean of nothing. That needle is pointing toward an island, I bet my life on it."
"Then, Ventus, how about we use one of the spares you have?!" Nami suggested.
"You say that, but I've a feeling that someone is going to break them the same way back at Whiskey Peak." Ventus told her.
Seeing Robin and Ventus' point, Nami gave up on logic.
Later, they picked up a coffin that fell on the ship, and without any hesitations, Robin opened it while try to place the bone shards of the skull back together.
"That's disgusting, digging through a deadmans clothes!" Chopper muttered in disgust, hiding behind the main mast while Nami continued to be stubborn as she shakes the Log Pose which it points up.
"That's really going to tell you something?" Zoro asks with a serious look.
"Don't know." Robin answered simply.
"You're into some pretty weird stuff, Robin." Nami states, watching her placing the bone shards of the skull back together.
"Any lady with a fascination for dead things is as interesting in my book." Sanji said.
Caius, Zoro, and Ventus noticed they're missing a few crew, looked and saw Luffy and Usopp ventured inside of the shipwreck.
"What kind of trouble are those two getting themselves into now?" Zoro questions in annoyance, scratching his head.
"Not a good one, obviously." Caius answered bluntly when Robin gently places the skull on the deck.
"Hey, look good as new." Sanji said.
"Except for the holes on the crown, those came from the external source." Robin inform him.
"Oh yeah, looks like it could've been arrows or spear or something." Sanji guessed.
"Not quite, but good guess. These are from the medical procedure called, craterization." Robin said. "Isn't that right, doctor?"
"An ancient one that cut out a small hole in the skull and remove a foreign mass, like a tumor." Chopper explains. "And since it leaves a crater behind, that's how you get the name."
"By how old of the medical procedure is, this must've used 200 years ago." Ventus states with a ponder.
"That, and I can say with confidence that this man was in his early 30s when he died." Robin adds. "It must've been during his voyage that he finally succumb to the illness, whatever it was. Much more than the rest of his bones, his teeth have remained surprisingly in good condition."
"That's because he was using tar to rub them, which it's a common practice in the South Blue to keep out bacterial infection." Ventus said.
"Yes, but as far as history goes, he must be one of the explorers." Caius adds as Robin goes through the book and saw an image of the ship.
"You're right, this was known as the Briss Kingdom of the South Blue." Robin explains. "They launch the St. Briss as a scout ship, 208 years ago."
"That's it! That's the ship that fell on us." Nami said.
"Yeah, I recognize that figurehead out front." Zoro adds.
"It's probably sailed the seas above unmanned since the captain and crew died." Robin said.
"It's amazing what you can tell from looking at the old bones." Nami states.
"I'm sure you've heard that dead man tell no tales, right?" Robin inquires, turns to her. "But everything around them does, if this was a scouting party, we should find evidence of that on a sink Briss."
"Yeah, except it's sinking like a stone." Nami told her, but noticed the ship sinks faster and Luffy is drowning. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, YOU IDIOT?! YOU CAN'T SWIM!"
Ventus flew towards Luffy and Usopp, grabs hold of them and toss them down to the Going Merry. After that, the young Dragoon starts beating both of them silly, leaving them a couple of bumps and bruises.
"You just love to cause trouble, don't you?!" Ventus growled in annoyance. "Next time you're in the middle of the ocean, I'll just leave you drowning!"
"Sorry..." Lufffy and Usopp apologizes to the young Dragoon.
"But you believe it! I did it! I found the most incredible thing!" Luffy told them, showing the map which made them gasp surprisingly.
"A map of a Sky Island?!" The Straw Hats exclaims.
"It's called Skypeia?" Nami said, reading the map.
"That's right." Luffy answered with a grin.
"So, it's true, there really is an island in the sky." Caius said which made Usopp, Luffy, and Chopper cheer while dancing. "However, we still don't know how to get there or if there's a possibility that if Skypeia exists or not."
"Caius' right, there are also a lot of fake treasure maps in circulation." Nami agrees when cheer turns into depression. "Eh...No, I mean, sure it's real. It's gotta be, because...well, just 'cause..."
Nami then slams her fist at the main mast.
"But the fact is, that map doesn't show us how to find the place!" Nami points out with white eyes, shark-like teeth, and steam came out of his head.
"You're the navigator! Navigate something!" Luffy argued with white eyes and shark-like teeth.
Their heated argument is getting annoying by the second and Ventus finally had enough.
"ENOUGH!" Ventus snapped with his dragonic tone, bonked both Luffy and Nami in the head. "Listen to you two arguing leads us too nowhere. And the reality is we know nothing about the Skypeia. What we do know is we can't defy gravity and sail into the sky, that's impossible. The only choice we have is to gather information. If the ship like that can get to the sky, then the odds are we can do the same. We just have to find the information that was left behind in the shipwreck."
"I think the ship is at the bottom of the ocean by now." Usopp informed the young Dragoon.
"If it's sunk, we'll salvage it!" Nami suggested.
"Salvage!" Usopp and Luffy cheered, equipped the fishing gear.
"Not like that!" Ventus and Caius said, bonked their heads with white eyes and shark-like teeth.
"We can't do that!" Zoro shouts with his veins popped out of his head, showing his white eyes and shark-like teeth.
"Salvage, really?" Chopper asks curiously, turns to Robin.
"Yeah, but we couldn't pull a ship up from the bottom." Robin told him, smirked. "I think they'll have to come up with a more refined plan."
But apparently, Nami had an idea that comes to in mind. Soon, Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Ventus were in a barrel suits with Caius summoned four Voidsent.
"This is adventure." Luffy stated excitedly. "I know I've done more dangerous things, but I can't remember what..."
"Nami, I swear to find you the answers you'll seek, or I'll refuse to return!" Sanji said lovingly.
"I'll hold you to that." Nami replied with a smile.
"You'll be safe, those barrels are my special design. They've never been busted." Usopp told them proudly, crossed his arms.
"Wait, why am I going with them?!" Ventus demanded.
"You're the responsible one." The Straw Hats told him, earned a tick mark from the young Dragoon.
Just then, a huge fish came out of the ocean and passing the seagulls.
"Good luck, be careful. We'll be pulling for you." Nami said as Sanji, Zoro, Luffy, and Ventus were pushing down below towards the ocean while the Voidsents followed after them when they noticed the sea monsters below them.
"Hey, look it that!" Luffy said.
"This is Chopper here, can you guys call off?" Chopper suggested.
"This is Luffy. There's a ton of monsters down here." Luffy informed them.
"We're on a nest of giant sea snakes." Zoro adds.
"This is Sanji, and they're staring at me." Sanji said.
"The Voidsents will help us out." Ventus told them.
"Keep going." Nami responds with a nod.
"They could die!?" Usopp exclaims in panic with budged eyes and shark-like teeth.
"They'll be fine, Usopp. Don't worry." Nami assures him. "And Chopper, hold that brake tightly."
"Right." Chopper complies.
"I'm so glad they didn't make me go." Usopp said with relief.
'Only because you're only a coward.' Caius mentally thought with a sweat drop, not going to say it out loud.
Then, they heard a loud noise that coming from the far distance that sounded like cymbals and the men chanted 'Salvage! Salvage! Salvage the sea!', and it's coming closer.
"What's all that noise?" Usopp asks, looking through his goggles.
But the noise grows louder along with the whistle blowing and the chanting of 'Salvage! Salvage! Salvage the sea!' as the ship sails toward the Going Merry.
The ship has a figurehead that resembles a monkey with two cymbals. It also has a rows of palm trees going along the sides of the ship and two banana-shaped poles serving as pulleys for the monkey figurehead. Also in sails had a Jolly Roger: a monkey's head with two bananas.
"Company, halt!" The voice of a salvage pirate named Masira ordered as his crew complied by stopping the ship.
Masira is a tall man with an ape-like features, brown spikey hair, he wears an orange-yellow jumpsuit, a white shirt underneath with brown sleeves, a light cyan sash around his waist, and also has headphones and goggles. He also has huge arms and some kind or piercing around his wrists.
"Are we on top of the place where the ship sank?" Masira asks loudly.
"Aye, aye, Captain sir!"
"When they say Captain, sir, they're talking about me!" Masira shouts. "Prepare to raise the ship! What lies on the bottom now belongs to the King of all Salvagers! Captain of the Masira Pirates, Masira!"
His crew then began to cheer when the Straw Hats are looking at him, thinking that he's mad.
"Great, a boat of unstabled men led by an unstabled monkey." Nami said in annoyance when Masira and his crew turns to the Straw Hat pirates.
"Hey, what are you guys doing here?" Masira questions with a glare. "In case you didn't know, all these waters belong to me!"
"They do?" Nami asks in confusion which Usopp is also confused.
"Yeah, that's right." Masira remarked with a smirk. "Every vessel that sinks in these parts automatically becomes mine. You're not trying to take something that belongs to me, are ya? Hmm!"
"So, he's going to bring it to the surface?" Robin said. "Easy for us."
"But not for the four guys already in the water!" Usopp exclaims.
"And they won't back down if they're on to us." Caius adds with a glare.
"We should just keep our mouths shut and let him do it." Nami quietly suggested.
"Stop mumbling and answer me!?" Masira shouts, earned their attention. "Are you people trying to yank one of my salvages out from under me?!"
"Excuse me, can I ask you a question first?" Nami inquires, raising her hand when she thought of an idea.
"YOU'VE GOT QUESTIONS FOR ME?!" Masira exclaims with his budging eyes and shark-like teeth, but quickly sighed. "Fine, sure whatever. Ask me anything!"
"Are all of you tough good-looking men gonna salvage that ship?" Nami asks in a flirtatious tone.
It got Masira surprised, but whistled with a smirk.
"Thank you, I see you know what a real man looks like." Masira said, thrusting his thumb to himself.
"What are you talking about?" Nami asks.
"You called us all tough and good-looking, that includes me." Masira states.
"Well, of course." Nami replied.
"Stop, you're making me blush!" Masira said, turns away with his hand on the back of his hand, chuckled with an embarrassed smile.
"This is disturbing." Usopp quietly muttered. "So, are you gonna salvage that thing or what?"
"Of course, I'm not the King of all Salvagers for nothing!" Masira remarked. "If there's a sunken ship before me, then I'll salvage it! Then, if it's not sunken, then I'll sink it and salvage it later! Now I know how impressed you are, but we have to save it, there's salvaging at hand!"
"Loser." Nami muttered in annoyance. "Do you mind if we watch you big strong men work?"
"Don't tell me you've never seen a professional salvage before?" Masira questions in confusion, but smirks with a chuckle. "You just watch us til' your hearts content."
"That's that." Nami said with a smirk. "Now, we just have to wait and see what happens."
However, one of Masira's crew is heavily wounded when he's been carried to the deck.
"Below...in the water...there's, us..."
Unfortunately, he didn't finish his sentence which it's enough for his crewmate to know that someone is under the water.
"Captain, we have problem!?"
"What is it?" Masira questions, turns to his crew.
"Something happen to the guys who went under the water to set the Cradle!"
"Was it one of those Sea Kings again?" Masira questions.
"I don't think so! It looks like someone went to town on them with the fists!"
"What?!" Masira exclaims furiously. "You mean someone else besides our guys are down there?!"
"I'm gonna kill them." Nami said with her face pale when she and Usopp flinches.
"You may not...get the chance." Usopp quietly told her when Masia turns to the Straw Hat pirates.
"Listen up, you!" Masira shouts which made Nami and Usopp flinches even more. "There's someone else down there, so be careful!"
"Oh, sure!" Nami replied as she and Usopp sighed with relief, seeing that Masira is a moron.
"I want all hands setting the Cradle, the ship comes up in 20 minutes!" Masira ordered with his fists pump up in the air while his crew pose as monkeys. "We've got salvaging to do!?"
"Aye, aye, Captain!"
Meanwhile under the sea, Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Ventus and the Voidsents reach deeper down to the depths of the sea after dealing with the sea serpents until they saw a wreck below them as they continued to head for the shipwreck.
Back at the surface, Masira waved at the Straw Hats since they're about to use the Cradle to lift the ship up.
"Okay, he's waving at us. Smile and wave back at them, I guess. Just act normal." Nami suggested, nervously wave back at him while Usopp does the same.
"Doing my best." Usopp quietly said.
"Don't get stage fright, fellas, they're observers. They wanna see something new. So, some them how it's done." Masira suggested to his crew, chuckled. "If you're still nervous, try picturing them in their underwear."
It got the crew responded with a cheer while posing like monkeys.
"Drop the Cradle!" Masira ordered.
"Aye, aye!"
With that, his crew steering the wheel, lowering the rope down into the sea while some of the crew dives down into the sea with their diving suits.
"Keep your eyes peeled for those intruders!" Masira ordered.
"Aye, aye, sir!"
"These guys really take their salvaging seriously, don't they?" Usopp asks, watching Masira and his crew getting ready for the Cradle.
"I think they're showing off because their Captain has a crush on me." Nami states.
"I don't think that's the case." Caius said. "And we were lucky that he doesn't know that we're up to, which it's clearly a misunderstanding."
"Let's hope you're right." Nami said.
While back on under the sea, Luffy, Sanji, Zoro, and Ventus continued to venture further inside of the shipwreck. Luffy manages to find something valuable, but it crumbles down from his hands which got him disappointed. He then looked at the mirror, making goofy faces when he saw something from behind. Luffy walk towards it and pulls it, which it got him wondering what it was. Zoro looks further when he saw three swords at the mantle, he grabs it and pulls it as hard as he can, but breaks apart and it got him realized that the swords were rusted and very old, much to his disappointment. Sanji arrived at the room, but noticed it was closed shut as he kicks the door hard, causing the door and the wall to crumble down. Sanji noticed something as he pulls a picture of a woman, wondering who she is. Ventus arrived at what seems to be the crew's room. He looked around and saw nothing that seemed useful, but noticing a chest as he pulls the lock and opens it, which was a seashell. Though, the young Dragoon notice the size of the shell that looked like the size of a fist, shrugs it off and place it on his pocket.
Ventus swam to the next room, which was the Captain's quarters, meeting up with Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro. They looked at the skeleton, which apparently they were dead during the fight centuries ago as Zoro pulls the harpoon out of the wall.
"Zoro." Luffy called him when he tapped his shoulder, earned his attention when they saw a chest.
Ventus walk towards the chest as he grabs the lock, pulls it out and opens it, which it was nothing but a white feather.
But before they continue to investigate, something big was getting hooked onto the ship, much to their surprise and shock. It was Masira and his crew, using the Cradle to hook on the shipwreck.
"Cradle set is locked in place!"
"What was that?!" Luffy shouted when Usopp and Nami quickly covered the speaker which it got Masira's attention when he heard the voice.
It was silent, both Nami and Usopp were very nervous about the situation at hand. Luckily, Usopp decided to play dumb.
"...So, why such a big monkey?" Usopp asks, points at the monkey figurehead. "There, on the ship."
"Oh, that? You like, it's a special prow I designed. It aids in our salvage, just watch." Masira told him with a proud smirk, much to the Straw Hats relief. "You're gonna love this, lower the Barco-Hunter!"
"Aye, aye, sir!"
And with that, the crew activates the mechanism to remove the monkey figurehead from the spot while chanting, 'Monkey, monkey, monkey!' It got the Straw Hats shocked as the monkey figurehead lowers down into the sea.
"Wow, awesome!" Chopper exclaims, amazed.
"Completely amazing!" Usopp adds.
"Are you serious?" Nami asks in annoyance, turns to them.
While the monkey figurehead was lowering deeper below the sea, its arms moves and analyzing.
"40 meters to the target...30 meters...20...10...Barco-Hunter joint locked!"
"Excellent! Now it's time for me to blow!" Masira said with a smirk, grabbing the tube while his crew cheered.
"Wait, there's no way..." Nami muttered in disbelief as Masira takes a very deep breath. "...He's actually gonna use his breath to bring up that ship?! That's ridiculous!"
She was proven wrong as Masira, after taking a very deep breath, he starts to breath air through the tube. The air quickly heads down towards one of the claw, which made a farting sound as the bubble begins to form.
"Is that a bubble?!" Luffy exclaims.
While Masira continues to blow the air through the tube, the shipwreck is starting to rise up out of the sea floors.
"The body of the ship is off the floor!"
"Alright, haul her up!" Masira ordered, turned his crew after being informed.
"Aye, aye, sir!"
They complied as they began to steer the wheel, pulling the shipwreck while some of the crew pumps the air with the big-sized air pump.
"Let's hustle men! Send more air!" Masira ordered.
"Aye, aye, sir!"
While they continue to pump some more air, they continued pulling the ship up, but they heard a scream that was coming from below the sea which was loud enough for Masira and his crew to hear.
"Captain, there's a problem with the underwater crew!"
It got Masira's attention as he looks down at the sea.
"Talk to me!" Masira shouts. "What's happening down there?! Is it the intruders?!"
"Yes sir! They're in this ship!"
Masira is now furious as he stands at the top of the railing.
"HOW DARE YOU LAY A HAND ON MY HARDWORKING MEN?! INTRUDERS!?" Masira yelled, making the Straw Hats flinched, but noticing something when his crew places the flames background behind him.
"Uh, you know, we're not going to take your picture or anything." Nami told him, waving her hand.
"You're not?!" Masira exclaims in disbelief.
"He's giving us a photo op?" Usopp asks when Masira heard that his crew are in trouble.
"Help us! Someone please! Help us!"
"I'll be right down!" Masira said, turns to his crew. "Continue with the salvaging operation men!"
His crew replied as Masira dives down into the sea, which it got the Straw Hats worried. Apparently, they'll be making some enemies when Masira finds out the four of their crew were inside of the shipwreck to find information. Masira continues to swam down when he notice something behind him, saw a giant eel was about to eat him.
"Monkey Punch" Masira knocks the eel out with a punch in a jaw, continuing to swam below as he lands on the shipwreck.
While on the inside of the ship, Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Ventus took off their barrel suit since they now got air.
"Check it out, we don't even need the barrels now." Luffy states.
"Well, I don't know how they pump this much air into a downed ship, but what I really wanna know is who they are and why were they try to salvage this thing." Zoro said seriously.
"For someone who had that huge lungs must've use that air to blow through, but it does leave some weird banana-looking smell." Ventus points out, bringing out his lance.
"I wonder if something bad happened to Nami and Robin up on the surface." Sanji said with worry. "I've tried calling them, but they won't respond."
It didn't take long for Ventus to notice the smell of the air and why no one is answering Sanji's call.
'He must be one of the salvagers trying to take the ship, which it explains why Nami and the others didn't answer his respond. They probably played dumb so we wouldn't get into a conflict with them.' Ventus mentally thought, but noticed Masira punched his way through the wreck.
"Who do you guys think you are, trying to muscle in on my turf?!" Masira shouts angrily.
"Nice, makeup." Luffy compliments curiously which made Masira blushed.
"Thanks, I fill it had such a refine quality to my face." Masira thanked him with a smile, much to the young Dragoon's annoyance.
"Oh yeah, certainly had something." Luffy said.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Zoro asks, crossed his arms.
"What do you mean?" Luffy inquires curiously, turns to him.
"What he means to say is who are you?" Sanji clarifies.
"You're right, how rude of me. Sometimes I get caught into the details of life, it's one of my shortcomings." Masira told him.
"You didn't answer our question." Ventus said in annoyance.
Suddenly, they noticing something down below the sea and the tremor was heard.
"There's something else down there!" Nami said as she and her crew looks down.
"It's huge?!" Usopp exclaims, noticing a shadowy figure. "Anybody just want a run?"
