After a VERY long time, here is the much awaited sequel! AHHH! I spent a very long time trying to figure out where this story was going to go, and the first one was very fluffy (which this one will be too) but I want to try my hand at some ~angst~ as well, so I hope it all goes well lol.
This story takes place about a week after we left off in The Secret Union, if you didn't read that one quick recap: Hotch and Em are married, have been before she even came to the unit. The team didn't know and didn't find out until they invited them to Jack's 3rd birthday. Jack is the biological son of both Aaron and Emily, Haley is their babysitter. Em has an older brother Scott who is married to Charlotte and they have two kids, Callum and Lydia. It was revealed at the very end of the story that Emily is pregnant. I believe that is all the most important details, so without further adieu, I give you the sequel, Finding Hope.
DISCLAIMER: I own nothing (other than Scott, Charlotte, Callum, Lydia and Harry Prentiss)
"Ok, remember be very quiet and no jumping." She heard, rousing her out of sleep. Cracking an eye open she saw her husband and son sneaking into the bedroom. Aaron, a couple steps behind Jack, holding a bed tray with a stack of pancakes, orange juice and some crackers. Quickly closing her eyes, Emily held her breath knowing that the toddler would soon worm his way under the covers next to her. Biting back a smile at the predictability of her 3 year old, she held still until he scooted to about her waist before unleashing the tickle monster.
"I'm gonna get ya! I'm gonna get ya!" Were the only words Aaron Hotchner could make out between the laughter coming from the two most important people in his life. Carefully setting down the tray, his eyes went back to the scene before him. Very slowly he grabbed his phone and snapped a couple of pictures, one that he totally didn't send to David Rossi, before joining in on the fun.
"DADDY HELP ME!" Jack squealed out as his little fingers tried in vain to tickle his mother. Not wanting to disappoint his son, Hotch turned on his wife and got her most ticklish point, her left ribcage. Before long the three of them were all panting on the bed out of breath, laughter still lingering in the air. Turning her head to the scent of food, Emily raised an eyebrow at her husband.
"And what is the special occasion today?"
"Do I need a special occasion to pamper my wife?" He shot back, raising an eyebrow of his own.
"Hmm, smart man." Biting back a smirk she leaned in and they shared a sweet kiss until a little voice broke them apart.
"Ewww, my eyes." Looking over at Jack, both adults held back a chuckle. He had his tiny hands slapped over his eyes while shaking his head back and forth.
Giving his wife a look, he pried his sons hands off of his face. "Remind me to talk to my brother at how he acts around our son."
"If you remind me to talk to mine." With a low chuckle, Hotch hauled himself out of the heap that the small family found themselves in and grabbed the tray that he left on the bedside table. Emily quickly situated herself and Jack so the tray could rest on the bed without anything spilling onto the blue duvet.
"Mommy, can I have the bacon?" Jack threw Emily some puppy dog eyes that both parents always had a hard time saying no too. Luckily for him, Emily's morning sickness hasn't been letting her eat anything other than bland food so she just smiles at him and nods. "YES!"
Biting back a laugh, Hotch levels a small glare at his son. "What do you say Jack?"
"Fank you Mommy." Jack manages to get out around his full mouth.
"You're very welcome baby." Emily kisses the top of his head before rolling her eyes at her husband, which caused Hotch to stick out his tongue uncharacteristically. Chuckling, Emily reaches for the sleeve of Saltine crackers that were sitting to the left of the plate before breaking them open and nibbling on the corner of one. She glances at her husband before looking back at the giant stack of pancakes and then back at him. "Are you going to have any? All of this food shouldn't go to waste you know."
"I think someone might beat me too it." Nodding with his head, both parents out right laughed at Jack who moved on from the bacon and is using both of his hands to grasp and eat to pancake that was almost as big as his head.
"More reason to hurry up and get some."
"Good morning crime fighters. Anything exciting happen this past weekend?" Garcia asked the second she walked into the break room's kitchen in the bullpen.
"Henry is finally sleeping through the night, so if you count getting a solid 6 hours of sleep exciting, then there you have it." JJ said into her cup of coffee, and immediately after taking a sip pulled face before putting more sugar in it.
"Ooh, that is exciting Jayje! Any other developments with my Godson?" She leaned forward across the table she plopped herself down at getting closer to the blonde that was making her way to the other side of the table.
"Well he can sit up on his own and really likes placing anything into his mouth. It's pretty impressive watching him bend to put his toes in his mouth." Garcia pulled a face at that. It was at that moment that Emily walked in holding a to go cup of tea, not that the rest of the team knows that.
Shooting one quick look at the face Garcia was pulling Emily couldn't help but ask. "What gross thing did Henry do now?"
"Stuck his toes in his mouth."
"Ah. It's weirdly cute watching them do that."
"See Pen, I'm not crazy." JJ pointed at Emily as the brunette profiler went to spoon some Splenda into her tea.
"No, you both are crazy." Her eyes were wide, looking between the two mothers.
"Just wait until you have babies, then you'll think everything they do is cute."
"Who's having babies?" Morgan and Reid stroll in, Morgan with his mug from his desk, and Reid with his jacket still on and bag slung over his shoulder.
"No one that I know of." Garcia said quickly, eyes darting between everyone in the room to try to see if anyone is hiding something. "All I have to say is that someone should soon, and maybe have a girl that I can finally spoil. Too much testosterone in this unit." She didn't even hide the fact that she made that comment right to Emily.
"Why don't you have the girl then?" Emily shot back with a smirk.
"Uh uh, I'm the fairy god mother, once they start crying they go right back to Mama." She said causing the room to burst into laughter.
"Yeah Em, you and Hotch ever think about having more kids?" Morgan asked, making all eyes go right to her.
"Yeah, we've talked about it. If it happens it happens." She tries to shrug off, giving them a hint without confirming nor denying that she is currently pregnant.
"Quick question though." Garcia raised her hand like she was in grade school. Emily just nodded at her. "Would you hide it from us, no offense?"
Reid took that moment to pipe up without looking up from pouring the sugar into his coffee. "Actually, when most people say 'no offense', usually they know that the question could quite possibly offend the other speaker and they say it to lessen the guilt for themselves." Looking up, he saw Garcia glaring daggers at him which made him immediately duck his head right back to the coffee.
"I'm not offended, it's a fair question being that we've been conveniently leaving out the fact that we were married for the first 6 months of me working here. But no, PG. We wouldn't keep it from you guys. Actually it would be quite hard being that my waistband would start expanding."
"Hmm, Princess has a point." Morgan gave her a fist bump before making his way to his desk, prompting the rest of the group to follow suit.
The knock on his office door caused Hotch to jump for a second, before controlling himself. "Come in."
The door opens revealing his wife who was holding a stack of files. "Hey, I volunteered to hand in everyone's completed files, since they were all kind of scared to come up here being that you kind of hauled yourself away today." Plopping the files on his desk she sat down in the chair across from his. "Everything okay?"
"Yeah, everything's fine." He reaches for the first file before hesitating when he sees the look on his wife's face.
"Bullshit." She raises her eyebrow at him. "Let's try this again, shall we. Everything okay?"
Sighing he puts his pen down before rubbing his hand across his face. "I got a call from someone I worked a case with years ago and he's not doing well. I have to fly out to Boston to talk with him on Friday. I have no idea what he wants to talk about and there is too much work to do."
Emily jumped up from her chair and made her way over to him. Placing a hand on his cheek she sighs. "Oh honey. I'm sorry. I'm sure everything is okay. And for the work, just let us take on some of it and whatever else give to Dave. It'll only be for the weekend, right?" At his nod she continued. "So, we'll be fine. Don't worry about it until there is something to worry about. Okay?"
"Okay." She leans forward and captures his lips in a short but sweet kiss.
There you have it! Short and sweet to kick off this story, and I'm sure you kind of have knowledge of the direction this story is going to go. I have no concrete plans, so let me know what you think and some things that can possibly happen. Also, is the baby a girl/boy and some name suggestions.
Posting schedule is going to be all over the place, unlike the first story, but I will try my hardest to update at least once every week. As always please like/comment and I'll see you all in the next chapter!
