I don't own MacGyver.
Hint of MacRiley!
After rewatching Murdoc + MacGyver + Murdoc, I thought of a story about what happened after Nasha and Mac reunited. I did like Nasha, but my heart is always with Mac and Riley. And I wondered what happened when Mac saw Nasha again. And maybe give Nasha a little justice. Hope you enjoy, and PLEASE review!
Nasha looked out at the city lights from Mac's deck. The lights looked almost magical. She had heard stories about America when she was a little girl, but everyone and everything she ever knew was in Nigeria.
That was until Angus MacGyver came back to Nigeria. She'd heard her friend Solomon tell stories about the American and his friends who put out the oil rig fire, and thought he sounded larger than life. Then Solomon introduced him to her, and she was smitten. He told her stories of his friends who were more like his family. Jack, the man who watched over him and loved Bruce Willis; Bozer, the best friend who was practically his brother; Matty, who was as tough as a Mama Bear; and Riley, the woman who saw him through so much and never let him down. The way he talked about her, Nasha knew Riley was more than a friend, or maybe he wanted her to be.
Everyone in his life had welcomed her. They knew she was important to Mac, and said she was welcomed in their little family. She came from a place where everyone knew their neighbors and treated each other as family, so she was grateful to have that with his family. But as she stared at the city that he left and returned to, she couldn't help but feel a little out of place. This was his home. She realized what she needed to do when she heard footsteps. She turned to see the man she cared about and softly smiled.
Mac had never been so relieved to see anyone as he made his way to the deck and saw Nasha standing there. "Nasha, I'm so sorry," he said as he took her in his arms.
"It's alright," she assured him. "I'm fine, Angus. It's over." All the fear she felt when she was abducted fell away, and she was relieved to see Mac.
When she pulled away, Mac looked her over. "You sure you're okay?"
She smiled reassuringly at his concern. "I'm fine. Really."
Mac sighed. "I am so sorry. I should have known..."
"It's alright."
Mac shook his head slightly. Everything he'd been through with Jack and the team against Murdoc, losing Jill, not knowing about his father's former partner, Has he's abduction and his family coming together to save her, Mac felt an emotional weight slide away. Nasha was innocent. Everything in his life he thought he could protect her from found her. He berated himself for not thinking Murdoc would ever find her.
Nasha simply put her hand on Mac's cheek. "Angus...I am really okay."
Mac sighed deeply, relieved that the woman who'd come to mean so much to him was standing in front of him. He took a deep breath and noticed how calm Nasha seemed to be. "Are you...?"
"Angus," Nasha said. She sighed, withdrew her hand and walked back to look at the city. "It is beautiful here," she said after a few moments.
Mac nodded and looked out at the city. "Yeah."
"You have a wonderful family here," Nasha said.
Mac realized where the conversation was going. "You're my family," he said, trying to convince himself as much as her.
Nasha smiled sadly. "No." She turned to face Mac. "You said you found a home in Nigeria."
"I did," Mac said quickly. "I found a home..." He walked up to her. "I found family."
"No," Nasha quietly said. You were running from your family."
"No..."
"Angus," Nasha said softly but firmly. "You were running from your anger and sadness. You were hiding from everything and not facing your emotions."
Mac's heart dropped, realizing Nasha was right.
Nasha looked at the man who she thought she could have a family with. "I loved coming here," she said. "When I was a girl, I wanted to come to America. Hearing you tell stories about your home and family, I knew you missed them very much. And no matter how much I cared about you, there was always a sadness about you. Then I saw you with Jack." Nasha smiled softly, remembering seeing the man and all of Mac's Phoenix family in a video call when Jill was killed.
Mac smiled softly. He had missed his family at the Phoenix, and thought he could have both. Now he sadly realized he couldn't.
Nasha sensed Mac knew she was right. She took his hands in hers. "Your home is here. You would not be happy away from your family. And I would not be happy away from mine."
Mac willed his lower lip to stop quivering. In his heart, he knew she was right. But that didn't make it hurt less. Looking into her eyes, he said, "I never wanted to hurt you."
"I know," she said. "But we are not meant to be."
Mac brushed away a tear from Nasha's cheek. As much as it hurt to hear her words, he knew she was right. He was wrong to hide from his issues with his father and ignore his family who cared about him. As much as he never wanted to hurt Nasha or anyone he cared about, he now knew he should have never left Los Angeles.
Nasha sighed and let go of Mac's hands. "You will be fine, Angus."
Mac swallowed the lump in his throat. "I never meant to hurt you."
"I know," Nasha said. "But I do not have your heart."
Mac closed his eyes, knowing she was right. When he opened his eyes, he looked at the beautiful woman he thought he could spend his life with. Now he knew their lives were completely different. "I am so sorry," he said as a tear rolled down his cheek.
"So am I," Nasha said. "But we will be okay."
Mac could only nod, knowing Nasha was right. He put his arms around Nasha and they both cried softly. It hurt knowing their relationship failed, but both knew they were not meant to be.
The next day, Mac's Phoenix family came over to visit with Nasha. Mac didn't say anything about their breakup, but everyone sensed Mac and Na she's sadness. After all she'd been through, they all agreed Nasha should have a great day before returning to Nigeria.
Before Mac and Jack took Nasha to the airport, Riley pulled Mac aside. "Everything okay?" She asked.
"Yeah," Mac quickly said.
"Mac..." Riley said.
Mac sighed. He never could hide anything from Riley. "I just wanted to keep her safe."
Riley gently put her hand on Mac's shoulder. "I know. For what it's worth, I'm sorry."
Mac's eyes met Riley's and he smiled sadly. "Thank you."
Unbeknownst to them, Nasha watched the interaction. Even though it hurt to lose Mac, she felt he would be fine. She could sense Riley was more than just a friend to him, and knew Mac would be okay.
Nasha realized who really had Mac's heart, and knew they were perfect for each other.
The End
