Chapter 10: Episode 4x05
Teyla was looking at her new friend getting ready to spar with her.
"Let's see how my technique is different from yours." Alexandra said, standing in front of the athosian. "Just so you know, I don't have just a military training. I picked up Jaffa and Sodan training as well. Which that means nothing to you." The scientist realized with a smile. "Sorry."
"It's absolutely fine, Alex." Teyla smiled. Day by day, Alexandra was becoming a real friend and someone Teyla could trust. She liked the light nature of the earthling woman.
"What I mean is that I'm not like John. He said you two spar from time to time."
"I understand. Shall we start?"
And so the two women began their training session.
That's how John Sheppard found them. Going at each other, punching, kicking, with no pause. If he was to be honest, they were making him tired just by watching them.
Until Teyla stopped her stick from going to Alexandra's neck and the other stopped her staff from going for the athosian legs.
"Wow!" John clapped after a moment.
At the sound of his voice, the two women straightened, noticing him for the first time.
"Morning, Sheppard." The scientist smiled at the pilot.
"Care to join us, John?" Teyla asked, with a defiant smile.
"I'm more of a watcher kind of man."
"Figures." Alexandra whispered to Teyla and the other smiled. "I actually gave to go. Mission with Lorne. Rain check?"
"Of course, Alexandra. Thank you for today." Teyla bowed, showing her how to do it."
Alexandra smiled as she bowed back at the athosian and went for her bag before leaving.
"Actually…" John nodded at Teyla and followed Alexandra out. "I was thinking that you could accompany me instead of going with Lorne. It's just a pick up but I thought you could visit the ruins of the planet while we waited for the jumper to be loaded."
"I can't. Evan told me about this planet a while ago and Sam gave me her okay last night. I have to go." She explained, not thinking too much on his interest.
John sighed, almost pouting at her reason.
"Fine. It looks like I have to go alone."
"What about your team? You do have one, you know."
"Ronon is away. Rodney is neck deep with some research and Teyla asked to have a free day." The pilot shrugged.
"I'm sorry, John." Quickly, Alexandra touched his arm. "Really. But..." She entered the elevator. "Don't go alone. It's always a bad idea."
Placing his hand on the frame of the door, the pilot looked at her with a smirk.
"Concerned about me, doc?"
"Don't be conceited, flyboy." She said playfully, then turned serious. "It's an advice. Always take a partner."
"Fine, fine. I get it." He took his hand off the door. "Have fun." John saw her nod before the elevator closed. However, in his mind there was her image in a sports bra and leggings as he walked away.
"Still no word?" Alexandra entered Sam's office. McKay had told her what happened as soon as she arrived from her mission.
"No." Sam said, looking up from her tablet. "I placed Major Phillips scouting the area Sheppard was in."
Nodding, Alexandra started pacing, barely noticing she was doing it. Sam frowned, watching her younger friend.
"He asked me to go with him." Alexandra started saying. "I should have gone with him. Why didn't he listen? Maybe… Maybe I should track him."
"No!" Sam stood, frighteningly aware of the suggestion."Don't you dare. It's not your fault he decided to go alone."
"It won't drain me, Sam. Not like it used to."
"It will. You were out for a full day after Sheppard brought you from MX-329."
"Because my shield had to protect me and McKay. Now it will only be me."
"Doesn't matter. No tracking." Sam went around her desk and sighed, putting her leader voice on. "Only in last resort."
"Fine... Fine." The scientist frowned and left the office.
John could hear her mutter as he got closer. He had just been checked out from the infirmary and had a quick debrief with Sam. However, before going back to his quarters, he knew he had to see her.
"Dammit!"
"Careful. Machines will take over someday."
"John!" Alexandra jumped from her chair and went for him, hugging him before stepping away to punch his arm.
"First. It was just a pick up. Second. Ouch!" He rubbed his arm.
"I don't care, John! You always take someone." Alexandra frowned at her own reaction. "I warned you."
"So the 'I told you do' approach is your kind of thing?" John sighed, seeing the worry crinkle between her brows. "You're right. I'm sorry." He saw her soften her expression. "You're not going to ask me if I'm alright?" He took a step closer to her.
"I can see that you are." Alexandra shrugged, sitting by her table onde again.
The pilot couldn't help but to smile playfully. He leaned forward and his hand went for her glasses, placing them on top of her head. His elbows were on the table to get closer to her, which made Alexandra to lean back.
"You were worried about me." He sounded pleased with himself.
"We all were, Sheppard. Don't be conceited." His closeness was making her giddy, so she stood, placing her glasses back down. "Shouldn't you be resting?"
John frowned at her reaction. But what had he expected? Not a few hours before he was flirting with Larrin. Now he was flirting with her? Just because Ronon mentioned she had been worried. Too worried to be natural.
"Yeah. I was on my way to my quarters."
"You should go, then." Her tone was final as well as her quick look.
"Alex..."
"Have a goodnight, Sheppard."
Scratching his neck, John watched her go around her office before deciding to leave.
By the corner of her eyes, Alexandra saw him nod and, the next moment, his back disappeared from around the corner. Only then she took a deep breath of… relief?
Ps: Reviews, pretty please?
