Chapter 9: Harsh Encounter At Eterna City! Brionne Shows Her Will & Resolve!
As the party made their way over to the Pokémon Center, a trio of familiar voices called out to them.
? - "There you all are."
The party turned to see Clair, Fluttershy, and Fauna walking over to them.
Rarity - "Great to see you three again as well. Have any of you seen Michael?"
Fauna - "No, we haven't actually. Why do you ask?"
The trio were then quickly informed about the ill Leafeon that Michael had rushed over to the Pokémon Center.
Fluttershy - "We did see someone rushing a severely ill Leafeon to the Pokémon Center earlier. That must've been Michael and we just didn't realize it."
Clair - "Then let's hurry over and see him."
As the girls made their way over to the Pokémon Center, someone called out to them.
? - "Hey! Over here!"
Sabrina - "Isn't that…?"
Twilight - "Yeah. It's Incineroar."
The girls then approached Incineroar.
Clair - "Hello there Incineroar. May we ask what you're doing out here? As well as what this large crowd is for?"
Incineroar - "It's a long and complicated story. But Greninja's further in waiting for me to escort you all over, so I'll explain on the way."
The girls followed Incineroar through the crowd.
Fluttershy - "So what happened?"
Incineroar - "Well…"
-Flashback: A Few Hours Earlier, Eterna City Pokémon Center-
Michael had just arrived at the Pokémon Center. He was a bit out of breath, but quickly ignored it as he rushed Leafeon over to the front desk.
Nurse Joy - "Oh my what happened here?!"
Michael - "I found this poor Leafeon and a few friends of her's out in Eterna Forest. The others were ok, but my friends and I were very worried about Leafeon here. So I offered to carry Leafeon over here and get her looked at."
Nurse Joy - "What about your friends?"
Michael - "They're able to take care of themselves. So for now I'll just wait for them."
Nurse Joy - "I see. Well then I better get started on tending to Leafeon here."
Michael - "Thank you Nurse Joy. And also, these are the four Pokémon that my friends and I found with Leafeon. Hopefully you can give them a check-up too."
Nurse Joy - "Of course."
After Michael gave a bit of a pep talk to Fomantis, Bounsweet, Cottonee, and Petilil, the four of them joined Leafeon as Nurse Joy took them to the back to be treated. Michael smiled despite still being worried for the five Pokémon he saved.
Michael - "They'll be ok. I just know they will."
? - "So you're the problem child, huh?"
Michael turned to find the lone woman that was currently a thorn in his side.
Michael - "Ah. So you're Sinnoh's champion Cynthia."
Cynthia - "And you're Michael Masi, then bloody thorn in my benefactor's side."
Michael - "And what if I am? Perhaps they and I can work something out."
Cynthia - "Or I could just beat you in a 1v1 battle right now."
Michael - "And the point of that is?"
Cynthia - "Simple. You win, and I'll leave you alone."
Michael - "And if you win?"
Cynthia - "Then you must quit the Sinnoh League entirely."
Michael stared at Cynthia like she was crazy.
Michael - "You're joking, right?"
Cynthia - "Nope."
Michael - "Great. It's one of THOSE situations. Fine. You're on."
Everyone else in the Pokémon Center, including Nurse Joy, thought that Michael was outright insane for accepting such a challenge. Michael then followed Cynthia outside as word spread around the city.
-Flashback Ends-
Incineroar - "And that's our current situation."
Roxanne - "I know Michael sometimes takes insane risks. But this is just outright Pokémon Trainer career suicide."
Twilight - "Don't worry Roxanne. Michael knows what he's doing."
Soon everyone had joined Greninja.
Greninja - "Nice to see that you all made it."
Clair - "What's the situation Greninja?"
Greninja - "Michael more didn't want the battle to start till you all showed up. Along with the fact that he said he has a surprise for us all."
Rarity - "Now I'm curious to see just what this surprise is."
Meanwhile, Michael and Cynthia were getting ready for their 1v1 battle. As for the battle's referee, Gardenia, the city's Gym Leader, offered to do it.
Gardenia - "This is a 1-v-1 battle between Sinnoh League Champion Cynthia and Michael Masi of Pokémon Island. The battle will continue until either one or both Pokémon are knocked out. Are both sides ready?"
Cynthia - "Go Garchomp!"
Michael - "Brionne I choose you!"
Everyone just stared at Michael's choice.
Cynthia - "Hahahaha! That's your choice for our battle?! A mid-stage starter?!"
Michael - "Brionne's a lot stronger than she looks. And I have 100% faith that she'll bring us the win."
Cynthia - "You're career's funeral then."

Earthquake's Current Power: 100 + 50 (STAB) = 150
Dragon Giga Earth Rush's Current Power: 150 + 150 = 300 + 150 = 450
Disarming Voice's Current Power: 40 + 8 (Wise Glasses) = 48
Ice Beam's Current Power: 90 + 18 (Wise Glasses) = 108
Bubble Beam's Current Power: 65 + 32.5 (STAB) = 97.5 + 19.5 (Wise Glasses) = 117

Despite having a massive type advantage, Garchomp's Yache Berry helped him push through Brionne's move and strike her dealing massive damage.
Michael - "You ok there Brionne?"
Brionne - "Just fine Michael."
Cynthia - "Well, well. You somehow survived being knocked out in a single hit. But Don't Think For A Second That Pure Luck Will Save You!"

Cynthia - "Dragon Giga Earth Rush!"
Michael - "Disarming Ice Bubble Beam!"
Disarming Ice Bubble Beam's Current Power: 1,092 x 2 = 2,184
Garchomp didn't have his Yache Berry anymore, but he still had a massive power advantage over Brionne.
Brionne - "I'm not done yet…"
Cynthia - "You might as well give up now and save yourself the embarrassment."
Michael - "No way! This battle's not over by a long shot!"
Brionne - "That's right! Until either me or Garchomp are knocked out, then this battle's far from over!"
Cynthia - "Fine then. Continue to worthlessly struggle as Garchomp crushes you in defeat."
Turn #3
Cynthia - "Dragon Giga Earth Rush!"
Michael - "Disarming Ice Bubble Beam!"
Brionne put all of her strength into her third combo attack, but once again Garchomp smashed right through it and struck, causing Brionne to fly back and crash to the ground. Michael fell to his knees in despair.
Michael - "No… It's all over…"
Everyone then watched completely stunned as Brionne struggled to her fins.
Brionne - "I'm not…Done Yet!"
Brionne's body was then covered in a bright light as she began evolving. After the light disappeared Brionne was replaced with a completely new Pokémon.
Michael - "Alright! Brionne finally evolved into Primarina!"
Cynthia - "So what. Not like a single evolution's gonna help you win.?"
Michael - "Oh we'll see about that."
Turn #4
Cynthia - "Primarina's on her last legs Garchomp! End this with Dragon Giga Earth Rush!"
Garchomp - "But ma'am…"
Cynthia - "Just do it!"
Michael - "Is she for real?! Not only is she outright ignoring common Type matchups, but also Garchomp's warning her as well and ignoring it too!"
Michael then mentally talked to Garchomp.
Michael - "Just attack Garchomp. Time for Cynthia to learn the hard way that you don't just ignore common knowledge."
Garchomp - "Thank you young Michael. And also I apologize for how she's acted towards you."
Michael - "Not a problem. Cynthia's gonna have to learn the hard truth sooner or later anyway."
Garchomp then rushed at Primarina and struck, but nothing happened.
Dragon Giga Earth Rush's Current Power: 450 x 0 (Type Immunity) = 0
Cynthia - "What?! But how did…?"
Michael - "If you were smart enough to pay attention, you'd see why your attack failed."
Cynthia wondered for a few seconds. Then the answer hit her like a sack of bricks.
Cynthia - "Primarina's part Fairy-Type…"
Michael - "That's right! And now that'll be what leads to us winning this battle! Primarina! End this battle now with Disarming Ice Aria!"
Disarming Voice's Current Power: 40 + 20 (STAB) = 60 + 12 (Wise Glasses) = 72
Ice Beam's Current Power: 90 + 18 (Wise Glasses) = 108
Sparkling Aria's Current Power: 90 + 45 (STAB) = 135 + 27 (Wise Glasses) = 162
Disarming Ice Aria's Current Power: 72 + 108 = 180 + 162 = 342 x 2 (Type Advantage) = 684 x 4 (Double Type Advantage) = 2,736
Cynthia watched in stunned silence as Garchomp was overpowered and knocked out.
(Music Ends)
Gardenia - "Garchomp is unable to battle! Primarina wins! So Michael Masi wins the battle!"
The entire crowd roared as Gardenia announced Michael's comeback victory.
Cynthia - "How did I lose…?"
Garchomp - "How, you ask? Simple really. It's cause you stupidly decided to let your "benefactor" blind you with nothing but lies. And as you can see, Michael's nothing like what those lies have said about him."
Michael - "Thank you for the kind words Garchomp. And as for you Cynthia. I'm willing to let go of what you said about me today. But only on one condition."
Cynthia - "What is it?"
Michael - "All I want is for you to find out the truth about me on your own. That's it."
Cynthia - "Ok, sure. I can do that."
Michael - "Good. Now you better get moving."
Cynthia - "Of course! Come on Garchomp!"
Cynthia ran off towards Eterna City's southern exit. Meanwhile, Garchomp turned towards Michael.
Garchomp - "Thank you Michael."
Michael - "Not at all Garchomp. Now get moving before she calls for you again."
Garchomp then quickly ran off as well, going in the same direction as Cynthia. Soon everyone approached Michael.
Clair - "You ok there Michael?"
Michael - "Just fine Clair. Also it's good to see you, Fluttershy, and Fauna again."
Twilight - "Are you sure about forgiving Cynthia so easily?"
Michael - "Much like Lance, I also believe that Cynthia's being lied to about me. But compared to Lance, it's much more severe for Cynthia as well."
Roxanne - "Hopefully she does find the real truth."
Michael - "I know she will. But the main question is will she truly accept it? Anyway. Let's return to the Pokémon Center so Primarina can get taken care of."
The party then quickly returned to the Pokémon Center, where Michael handed over Primarina to Nurse Joy. After a few moments, Nurse Joy, along with her partner Chansey, pushed out a trolley that had BOTH Primarina and Leafeon on it.
Michael - "Nice to see that you two are doing better. You especially Leafeon."
Leafeon - "And I have you to thank for that. Nurse Joy kindly informed me about you bringing me in through Chansey. And I believe she also said about you deciding if you're gonna catch me or not?"
Michael - "That's correct. But you and you alone will make that decision. Along with the fact that you're not the only one."
Leafeon - "Who's the others then?"
Fomantis - "Us."
Leafeon turned to see Fomantis, Bounsweet, Cottonee, and Petilil walking over to her.
Leafeon - "Are you all sure about this?"
Bounsweet - "Wherever you go Miss Leafeon, we go too. Besides, we also owe Michael a bit for helping us save you."
Petilil - "But whatever you choose to do here, we'll support it 100% percent."
Leafeon then turned back to Michael, who had placed 5 Ultra Balls on the ground in front of him.
Michael - "The choice is entirely yours Leafeon. There's no rush to make it."
Leafeon stared down at the five Ultra Balls, quietly making her decision. Then she slowly walked over and sat in front of the center Ultra Ball, tapping the button with her paw and being sucked into it. The Ultra Ball shook three times before clicking, which caused Michael to smirk.
Michael - "Well Leafeon's made her decision. Now for you four."
The others then walked over and let themselves get caught as well. Michael then stood up before holding Leafeon's Ultra Balls above his head.
Michael -"Alright! I just caught a Leafeon, Fomantis, Bounsweet, Cottonee, and Petilil!"
Michael then brought the five Grass-Types back out to get to know everyone. Due to how late it was, everyone decided to go to bed and be well rested for the morning.
