I had gone back the that abandoned city every day for a month. I would come back and report the same thing to Narnia. I felt useless not doing something else. We caught one of them, but my hunch was correct to believe they would abandon such a hide out if one of them were caught. Especially one that they would consider a traitor.

I went into other buildings, and ended up sitting on top of one that was half crumpled. I pulled out the little note card and read it. Baal was sentenced to life of torture in prison, and that left the south army without a leader. They had a second in command and were holding out for now.

Narnia was worried if they flooded in that things would become hellish. He was communicating back and forth, and he eventually sent some officers to help the war efforts. Folding the card and putting it in my pocket, I teleported to Narnia's office.

"Nothing has changed, I checked every potential spot even if it were only big enough for one."

He did not look up. "We are abandoning that lead. We have something else that we need to do."

"What is it?"

"I gained a report." He held up a black folder, not letting me have it.

"This will be a long trip, could be a few days or even a week or more. That depends on what we can do, and how we handle it. We can not teleport to close, as we will not know what we are getting into."

"Fenrir and I will be going?"

"No, you and I. I need to be able to use all my abilities without raising suspicions about the other me. Go home and let Eli and Lord Sullivan know you will be gone for an extended period. We need you for this, it cannot be helped. Get plenty of rest, and by that, I mean sleep. No hall pacing."

"I'm not tired, the mana reserve I have won't allow me to do that until I expend it."

His eyes furrowed. "You're not purposely staying awake?"

I shook my head. "It's been almost six days; I have done almost nothing but teleport back and forth. I do not feel tired, and eating tends to prolong this."

"Down below in the power room, there is an orb we use to expel mana. Whatever you expel will go to power the building, and you will get paid for your contribution. I need you to be at your best tomorrow. Full sleep, full battery."

He was different, colder than usual. I do not think I did anything, reporting all that was happening, which was nothing. Maybe he was stressed over that. I am sure he hoped to get another one in custody sooner rather than later.

He did not have any tea set up either, he always had something waiting for me when I came back. A snack, and tea always. We would talk and enjoy ourselves a little. Something was off, the thought of him finding a courting partner crossed my mind. He would have told me, right? I thought we were closer than that for him to tell me something like that.

I went downstairs, and to the power room. The man at the desk looked up. "Hello, are you here to expel mana?"

"Yes. Narnia sent me."

"This way." I followed him into a lab-like room. Huge power cords were along the walls and on the floor leading up to a giant white orb in the middle. A catwalk above the cords led to the middle and surrounded the orb.

"All you must do is touch it, and it will pull the mana out. Release your hand if you feel any wave of fatigue, or it may take to much and you will pass out. Pay out will go to your check."

I never saw my checks; those went to Grandpa. He said I had an account made, but I was not allowed to use it yet. I did see the balance once and only deposits had been made. He said there was no need until I moved out. While it was irritating, I just let him. It was not like he was using it.

I placed my hand on the orb, it lit up. The cords around me buzzed with energy and a meter was displayed. I watched it go up and cap off at the top. The orb turned off, and the cords quieted. I tapped it.

"Um, wow. You tapped the machine out."

"What does that mean?"

"It turns off when the reserve is full. You just gave us a months' worth of power."

I frowned. "This was supposed to make me tired. Is there another building or place?"

He looked down at his board. "Um, a few. Might I ask why you need to make this much money?"

"I don't need the money; I was supposed to expel energy so I could sleep and have a full reserve for the trip tomorrow. Pay me for this one, everything else will be on the house. I can sign an agreement if necessary."

He gave me a list of facilities, all of them were much smaller than the one I was at. I visited them all, restoring power to the capacity it would let me. I teleported to Eli and took him home. I was partially tired. How many days could I have gone this time with out sleeping? How much mana did I have inside?

I sat at the dinner table. "I have a trip coming up, I will be gone for an extended period. I need someone to take care of Eli for a while."

Grandpa folded his hands. "They are doing it. They are keeping you."

"It's not like that. There is two options, Eli can stay in house at border control, or he can be picked up and dropped off."

"Or he can stay here. I miss having him around as much as you. Your always gone until dinner."

"Mom, are you going war?"

"Eli, how do you know there is a war going on?"

"Other kids talk about how there parents are fighting in the war. They have been there for months."

"I do not know where I am going, I am assuming it is an overnight look out. Were trying to track some people down."

"Oh."

My eyes furrowed. "What do you wish to do? The option is yours because it affects you the most."

"Um, I can stay here. I miss Iruma. We haven't played games in forever."

I felt a little bit relieved. He was starting to act like a normal kid again. He was not shutting all of them out and choosing to stay to himself. The next morning, I helped him get ready, had breakfast and let him leave with Grandpa.

He would be spending his time in the school with all the other teachers. I texted Kalego to call me if anything happens while I am gone, and I would come straight there to lay down law. I just hoped it did not have to come to something like that.

I teleported myself into Narnia's office. He would be disappointed that I did not sleep. Expelling mana, and I took the tea brewed extra strong. The two did not work. I frowned at the empty room, was I early? I smirked, looking at his chair.

I always wanted to sit in his chair. I bit my lip, the grin on my face growing. I sat in his chair and spun it around. Swivel chairs are hands down the greatest chair evolution. I laughed softly, spinning it faster. The chair was halted suddenly, I grabbed the armrests to not be flung from the seat.

I looked up to a glaring Narnia. "Nari." It was hard to hide the smile as I stood.

"Vi."

"It's not what it looks like."

"Really? Because it looks like you were spinning around in my chair, laughing like child and going wee."

I giggled, putting my hands behind my back, backing up and around the desk. "Oh, well. Then it is exactly what it looked like."

"You did not lie when you said you had deep mana reserves. Were you able to sleep after?"

"I did not, I tried."

He pinched his nose. "You expended that much mana, and you could not sleep?"

"I went…"

"I know where you went."

"I can't help it; I just stay up. No matter what I take, how long I close my eyes and count the devi-sheep. I sleep when I sleep. Why are you so upset with me?"

"It's not at you, its at myself. Because now they are even lower." He rubbed his temples, flicking his hand out. "If we have to stop, tell me. Don't wait until your falling from the sky." Why did I still feel like I was being scolded?

"Are we flying all the way there?"

"Yes, and we are leaving now. We have two long days ahead."

He placed a hand on my shoulder, and we shifted to the roof, and pointed towards the south region. I looked over the edge, nice and clear ten story drop. "You remembered." I turned, smirked, crossed my arms and fell backwards.

I spun around facing the building, when I reached max momentum, I summoned my wings and turned up. The rush of adrenaline hit and swung my arms out. This was the most freeing experience this world had.

Nothing but open skies, no planes, no cars. This world had minimal machinery, but they were technologically advanced in cellphones, internet and games. Broadcasting on wide scale, this was the world to be in.

I hated it at first, but I grew on me. They had there own world full of things that applied to them, if only humans were not so destructive in the way they treated the world. The pollution alone was killing the human world. Add greed and it was a disaster. They did not have those issues here, it was war, evil cycles, and food poverty.

The sun grew hotter by midday and cooled by the night to a comfortable temperature. The moon rose over the horizon, and my eyes were falling. If I had not put myself out of so much mana, I probably could keep at it. Good intention, bad idea.

I signaled to Narnia, but he didn't see. He was not looking back long enough for me to catch his attention. I texted him, he looked and drew back.

"We can stop here, land with me and stay in the trees."

I nodded, following him down slowly. He maneuvered through a crack of leaves, and I heard him land. The sound reverberating, leading me to him. I tucked in, preparing for the landing. My toes were the only thing to touch, I fell backwards. My heart skipped.

Narnia grabbed my hand pulling me on the thick branch, I stepped forward holding on to him. "Careful. Not a lot of room to catch yourself."

"Thank you. I tried, but my eyes were drooping."

"You're fine. This way, tall trees like this have good nesting areas." He was so nimble among the branches, jumping to the next branch and landing perfectly. He waved me over, and I leaped. He would brace me as I caught balance.

"Down this branch, there is a small nook." I followed him, the nook was a like a low bowl but big enough for one person to lay, or two too sit.

A sat leaning up back on one of the lower hanging branches. He perched on one of the branches looking out. This was not comfortable at all. I was spoiled with always having a bed. I turned, flipped. Laid backwards feet hanging over the sides.

He chuckled. "Problems? You've moved six times in five minutes."

"I'm in a tree. I would teleport home, but I am unsure if I would be accurate being this tired. I've made mistakes before."

"You want me to take you?"

I covered my eyes. "No, that only proves to Grandpa that I can't make it on my own, and he will gripe about me being in border control, again."

"Get up for a moment." I peaked an eye. "I'm trying to help."

I stood to the side, and he sat down. "How is that going to help?"

He held a handout. "I'll hold you. Sit, recline back, sleep.

"Nari, I can't do that."

"You have before, and it meant nothing. This would be no different. I told you, I need you at your best."

I had, but how I felt then and now was different. I liked him, and I did not have to pretend to be civil. I did not want to ruin the friendship I just made. He and Kalego, though stern in there own way; were great people, and I never wanted to lose them over something like this.

"I will try it your way, but if it don't work, I will have to give up and go home." I took his hand, sitting between his legs laying back on him till I was comfortable.

It was already ten times better than laying on a tree. He rubbed the top of my head, my eyes shut. I woke up, the sun shining through the trees. What kind of sorcery was that? I just, and he. I leaned forward looking back, he was sleeping too.

How could one sleep against something so hard? "Nari."

He pulled me back, arms around my stomach. "Five more minutes."

"We need to head out."

"They can wait five more minutes."

Relaxing, I rolled slightly to look up at him. "How can you sleep like this?"

"Used to it, Shh." He patted my head.

I waited five minutes. "Its been five minutes."

"If you insist." He let go, and I got up, stretching. "I find your crown so fascinating. I see it, but I cannot feel it."

"It has always been like that. Careful, tends to shock people if I do not want to be touched."

There was no clear view of the sky, I climbed up as high as I could, poking my head out. Narnia shoot up out of the trees, hovering and pointing. I teleported up and dripped down in a swoop gaining speed.

We stopped to eat in a small village of maybe a hundred people. The looks Narnia was given, and then me. It was always a look of concern or worry. Most would look the other way or walk away. Was he that well known?

"Why do they look like their scared of you?"

"Because they are." We walked into a small diner.

"Why?"

"Vi, I am known as the king of torture by many. A ruthless, cutthroat demon who gains pleasure in others pain."

"Do you?"

"Yes." He gestured to a seat at a table and we sat.

"Hi. um. What would you like?"

He ordered my food and I waited for the woman to leave. "I do not see it."

He pressed his lips. "You have not done anything wrong enough to find out."

"Debatable. Few weeks ago ring a bell?"

"Even if I wanted to, I am sure you could take me down with a glare. Besides, I like you. I am a little more forth giving to those I like."

I smirked. "Oh, the great Naberius Narnia likes me?"

"Don't push it. I have my own intentions."

I pouted. "Now it sounds like you're using me. When I am not useful you will drop me into the riven for the vultures to peck my eyes out." I pressed the back of my wrist to my forehead. "Oh, the despairing feelings you are giving me." I pretended to melt in my chair.

He grinned. "I am sure you could handle that, and then find me for payback."

The server came back with our food. "You two enjoy." She hurried away.

I looked down, and there was an eye looking at me. I pushed the plate away. "You." I narrowed my eyes on him.

"Relax, you must understand we are in a small town, and this is how they cook." He took my plate, cutting the head off the fish and put it to the side on a napkin. He pushed the plate back. "Now eat."

"The day I eat an eyeball willingly is the day I have truly lost it."

He chuckled. "You really should try it at least once; you might be surprised."

I shook my head. "Never, not in a million years." A chill went down my spine. "Yeah, no."

If we were in the human world, this would be considered a date. The time we spent in the tree, a sleepover. Not a minute of the time I spent with him felt long. The hours we had spent talking were like minutes, passing me by in flashes. If I blinked, I felt like I might miss something.
