I brought Narnia his favorite morning tea; he was laying on the couch, arm crossed over his face. Did he always sleep in his office like this? I sat down on the other side leaned over, elbows braced on my knees, propping my head. I would try to touch him, but he is not the type to wake up like I do.
He had his phone on his chest, cupping it in his other hand. I could call him, that could wake him up. I looked at the time, he was probably tired. I should let him rest, he is not like me and can go days without sleep. I really missed Eli and him these past few days.
Eli was home with Grandpa, playing with Iruma, having a grand time. He had come back to me as my happy little boy. I promised him nothing would ever hurt him again, and it took a little while, but he came around to trust and playing with others again.
I sat there waiting, and the longer I sat there, the more that intrusive thought to pounce on him was there. If I hold him down, I could get away with it. The phone on his chest went off, He took a deep breath, and he turned the alarm off. Checking his phone through one eye he sighed, Sitting up hand on head.
I teleported on top of him. "Good morning." I cupped his face, kissing his cheek. "I've been waiting." I kissed the other cheek. "For you." I kissed his forehead. "To wake up." I hugged him around his neck.
"Here I thought you did not care to check in. Instead, you were watching me sleep like a little creep."
I leaned back. "Yep, I was. I brought you something."
"You is enough." He wrapped his arms around my waist, laying back down on the couch. "Five minutes." He rolled me to the inside of the couch, kissing my forehead and holding me close.
I let out a giddy chuckle, rubbing my head on his chest and under his chin. "Can I fight for ten?"
"When is your birthday?"
"Um," I counted the days from when I got here to there calendar. "I turned Twenty-eight… A month ago… Oh, Eli turns seven in a week. I must get something together for him. How could I have not though about this, I never forgot his birthday."
"I missed your birthday?"
"I don't know yours either, it's fair."
"A month ago, that was right after the cult bust. I was swamped. I should have asked sooner."
I looked up. "Don't worry about it. I got to perform a new song on stage for my birthday, which was fun enough in itself. You more than made up for it when you were done with work. We could… do that again." I grinned.
"No, that was not enough in my head. That's like throwing pebbles at you, I want to shower you in diamonds. I want to celebrate with you. It is something I have not gotten to do." Right the history between him and the other girl.
I frowned, burying my face. "I am fine, if you take me out and we have us time. I am more than happy."
He huffed, pulling my hair back. "Let me spoil you."
"Oh, I learned lots of stuff."
"No subject changing."
"It's a lot more important than a birthday, you will want to know what I have learned, because this could change the netherworld forever." He was not going to let me go until the ten minutes was up, we pondered ideas. Then brought up the Thirteen crowns dinner again.
"Nari, screw that dinner. I don't need to go. This…" I teleported away, dropping the books and the notebook on the table. "This is important. Our world could be on brink of war not by demons but by humans."
I gave him all the history first, then caught him up to present time. I ended it with what could happen and how we both knew demons had been crossing over. How it was happening, and what we could do. I watched his face crinkly at every mention of humans and cross breeding.
"This could be bad; we would need to bring this up in a crown meeting."
"Mass panic is not good either. We should start with Grandpa; you and I both know he knows something."
"What if he opposes the idea?"
I sighed. "We don't know unless we try."
"You try, tell him I know nothing."
"He will not believe that, were practically glued at the hip."
"Not lately. Tell him you learned all these things and went straight to him."
I looked down at all the books. "I will try."
I took everything to grandpa and did the same song and dance when he was home from school.
"You found out a lot. I suppose it cannot be ignored much longer. There is not much for me to explain when you did most of it on your own."
"Why not tell me from the start?"
"It was his wish, I know it frustrated you, but I served him. He would want you to step back and let things heal on their own. Things have gotten better since his reign. So why not step back and live your live settled down." I was not going to listen to this again nor respond.
"And being my grandpa?"
"My choice, but he asked if I ever found you to make sure no harm came to you. Protect you and all you loved. I have not done such a grand job, have I?"
"I was an adult when I got here, by human standards. Um, anyways. You did better than my parents and that accounts for something."
"We can bring this up, the other crowns are already suspicious of you and your ability. It is why I worry you being so close to Narnia. I have no clue to his true intentions."
"If it means anything, I knew he has been truthful in his intentions and feelings. Is it wrong to always check for it myself?"
"No, and you always do so. Many will try to use you, and make you, their puppet."
"What about the demon king prophecy."
"Is a true prophecy, I do not know why Narnia told you those words."
"What about Iruma."
"Do not worry about him, he has his own path to take and what he will choose to do. The Next crown dinner is tomorrow, and I know that all have said they would be there. I might have told them you were going."
"Grandpa, you're doing it again."
He smiled. "You are mandated, I must bring you."
"That is so unfair, can I not do my own thing for once?"
"You have been, they merely want to talk with you."
"Talk or interrogate?"
"They only question your intentions, you were a teacher aid, now in border patrol. Henri singing you praises to your accomplishments. Narnia going along with it. You are doing good, but it only took one mistake for them to wonder if you are good."
"That's bullshit and you know it. Eli was kidnapped, I had Yodh under my control. There was not a soul in true danger."
"I get it, but they do not." He checked his watch. "You have a show I am waiting to watch in an hour."
My eyes widened. I had almost forgotten. "My phone had died, I bet Mar is flipping tables at this point."
He chuckled. "Go on, it is nice to see you happy and not always at border patrol. Oh, and do be as creative as you wish. I believe all would like to see your amazing abilities."
"I was hiding for a reason. I do not want others to start fearing me for my abilities."
"One day they will all understand. As for your stance in border patrol, all it will do is bring down fear of you like it had for Narnia and Henri. You should leave when you have the chance. Pursue the Akudol life."
"It is a double life thing; you won't understand until you do it yourself."
He shrugged. "Eli, Iruma and I will be there. We might have told them."
I tilted my head. "Why?"
"You know Iruma is Irumi too. Pipe down and go, you must get ready."
I transmuted my clothes, teleporting to the stadium dressing rooms. Mar grabbed me by the shoulders. "I have been trying to reach you for hours."
"For my cars extended warranty?"
"What no, Beeber is here. He is asking if you forgot about the thing you declared on public tv. I gave him the song, but he was not satisfied. Called it not his style."
I huffed. "It is going to have to be."
"What is it even?"
"Um, a fun song about being a captain of my own ship."
"You are speaking in tongues again?"
I huffed again. "Demons that pilot boats."
She released. "Oh, well I do not think it will be very popular either."
"That was the point, I don't want him to agree to it."
She pressed her hand to her forehead. "You will be the tank that sinks my ship."
"Aye, you got it. good job… I could make it fun." Grandpa's words were echoing in my mind.
"You better prove that to him." She opened the door, Beeber falling through.
He stood up. "I was not listening. Anyways, what is this? Are you trying to get us wrecked."
"Aye, he got too. Nice pun. Don't worry, I'll leave a light on for you in case you decide to try and make your way here." I laughed.
"Change it."
"Okay." I changed his clothes and made him look like a pirate. I changed Kumoru and a few other Dem-dolls and myself. "All changed, let's go maties, it's time to sail."
"I kind of like this change." Kumoru pulled at her dress. "How does it go, Arg?"
"Yes, exactly." I hooked arms with her, and we led the way out of the dressing rooms.
The fans were already cheering, this was a big event with the most Akudols in one spot, the stage was huge. Thousands of fans were in there seats, eagerly waiting for the show that was about to be put on. What they did not know was that it would be the show of a lifetime.
Summoning flames and a three headed hound was going to be nothing that I was about to put on. With the amount of space, I had, it was close to the valley I summoned the two Viking ships. He denounced his helping in the song already, I was about to make him regret that.
I changed us all back and the show went on like normal, we took our turns. Singing separately, and together. The show went on for almost two hours before it was time for us to do our last and final act. The one I was most eager for.
The lights dropped low; smoke billowed out. The crowd hushed. We all ran out on the stage, and they erupted in cheers. The song began to play, and I manifested the ship for me to sail on. It was probably my fondest memory here. I flipped through the ropes and climbed to the top of the mast.
My ship turned upside down, and I picked up Kumoru from the stage. She smiled brightly as I swooped around, leaving the ship tiled on its side. We laid on the edge, both of us touching fingertips to fingertips with our fans. The energy was there, and the crowd loved it.
I used my ability to persuade the crowd with happy feelings. They were so worried it would be a dud that they did not give it a chance. When it was all over, I flopped down on the couch, kicking my shoes off. Taking a rest before the sighing would begin for all the VIP guests we had tonight.
"Rose, there is a group of people looking to see you." I leaned up. "Your Grandpa, Iruma, Eli and Fenrir." He pushed her glasses up.
"Um, yeah. Let them in." I got up.
Iruma hugged me first. "That was so cool."
Eli climbed up my back. "Mom, you never said you were this cool."
"Eli, your bluntness kills."
Grandpa smooshed them all into me. "She always has been. Then and now."
"Yes, yes. I need to breath too."
They all let go. "Oh, this one demanded to tag along."
Fenrir waved. "You know me." He smirked.
"Right, I do need security. I assume this was the best they could do?"
He scoffed. "I used to be third at border patrol before you took my place."
"Right, because I am better than you." I flicked my hair, and he shook his head.
Grandpa looked around. "Why did Narnia not come?"
"Oh, he was busy. He watches from his office, and he fully supports me. Don't worry."
He pressed his lips, Fenrir disappeared, and I received a call from Narnia.
"Your performance was amazing; I wish I could have been there."
"I know. I will see you tomorrow. I must finish up here and do the signing.
"I hope you have fun, is Fenrir there?"
"Yes, he stepped out a moment, but he is going to stay through the signing to keep the fans from me. Thank you."
"Your welcome." He hung up.
"See, he was watching."
Grandpa forced a smile. "I only worry, I suppose I might be worrying for nothing. Do have fun, we are going home."
I took Eli from him and squeezed him tightly. "I love you, bug."
"I love you more."
Grandpa left with Iruma and Eli, Fenrir came back in the room. It was only us. "When will I get to be here? They all think I am not supporting you."
"If others see you then they might figure me out. I never planned for this to go on as long as it has."
"But your still having fun, right?"
"I am." He hugged me. "This feels wrong." He tilted his head. "Like, hugging you while you look like this."
His appearance changed. "Better?" He kissed me.
I pulled back. "Nari, afterwards."
He tapped my nose, letting me go. "Fine, afterwards." He changed back, and the door opened.
That was much to close. We got through the signing in one piece. As they came up, they would display there excitement, and some would ask me for hugs or to marry me. Which led to Fenrir growling or just moving them out of the way.
Mar was smiling from the sidelines, her job just got easier. Not only was he hovering over me, but also Kumoru. She did not mind, encouraging him when a fan got to close. It was a good show and a successful day.
