Twenty nine years later, one fine summer day

Sonic the Hedgehog, now a green-eyed and slim hedgehog, ran through Green Hill Zone, fast and free as the wind and enjoying the adventure. He was very happy, nothing could ruin his day, he loved Green Hill and it was his favorite place in the world.

He'd been here so many times since the 90s, since the beginning of his video game heyday. Having visited Green Hill more than once, it was his favorite place in the world with Station Square at a close second on his top ten favorite places in the world list.

"YAHOO!" The blue blur exclaimed as he ran through a shuttle loop and past a couple sunflowers, visiting this place for what felt like the thirteenth time in nearly thirty years brought back so many nostalgic places of the first time Sonic was here.

Back then, nothing much was going on other than helping SEGA be successful or saving the world from the schemes of Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. If one thing made Sonic excited, it was that he would be getting a film based on him very soon.

Even though he wouldn't be in it personally, at least that Schwartz guy would do an awesome job capturing Sonic's voice and personality. Sonic had even promised the movie's directors that he would try to attend the premiere on release day.

With the movie's release date falling in a month's time, this gave Sonic all of the time in the world to be his typical fast self, hang out with friends, new and old, and date the girl of his dreams: Rosy the Rascal, Amy Rose the Hedgehog.

As the blue adventurer ran up to the top of a nearby cliff and came to a halt, he took in the view of Green Hill with the water falls, loop de loops and plant life as well as the many critters scurrying about and going on with their normal animal lives.

Sonic breathed in the smell of fresh air and the sweet scent of grass and sunflowers, feeling very happy. But then, the sky turned dark and storm clouds rolled in, lightning flashing overhead while thunder boomed, like cannons exploding in the distance.

"What the hell is going on here?" Sonic asked, "Nobody predicted a rainstorm or a thunderstorm or some sort of eclipse or anything... Wait, what's that?"

A huge, swirling portal had appeared in the sky overhead, resembling a terrifying black hole of doom. Sonic and the many animals of Green Hill watched to see what would happen, then it finally happened after so many years...

Cackling ominously, eyes glowing redder than before and having hardly changed at all after countless years, the Phantom Turbo Master emerged from the portal and flew over Green Hill, frightening multiple animals and sending them into hiding.

"HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!" The demon cackled, "I AM FREE, I... AM... THE PHANTOM TURBO MASTER AND, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, OUR REUNION IS NOW!"

"No!" Sonic yelled, "How is this possible?"

"You may have forgotten me," The Phantom Turbo Master bellowed, "But I never forgot you, years of being stuck in that world have been worth it. I am now at full power, soon this world and all others will be consumed!"

Putting aside his shock and willing to fight to save the world as he always did, Sonic leapt forward, going straight for the Phantom Turbo Master, shouting "I WILL STOP YOU" before going into homing attack-spin dash mode, targeting his foe.

But just as the hedgehog was reaching the monstrous menace, Phantom Turbo Master dodged to the left and grabbed Sonic with his bare hands, grasping him tightly and making sure the blue hero did not escape his grasp.

"Uh, uhhh," Sonic grunted, struggling to break free, "Let... me… go… you… ugly… bastard!" The super villain of doom cackled, "No, I don't think so. I think I'm going to take you with me to what will become my ultimate world!"

Despite the hedgehog's protests, Phantom Turbo Master flew into the portal in the sky, taking Sonic with him. The fastest thing alive was fighting with his might to get free of his new old enemy's grasp even harder, managing to get both of his arms free.

As he tried and mostly failed, he could watch the cloudy surroundings around him and the beast of doom shift and change, glowing brighter. Then, Sonic saw the very thing he could need, the Magic Paint Brush Wand or M.P.B.W, and snatched it.

Desperate to save himself and stop this creature that he created, the blue hero thought up a spell as fast as he could and pointed the wand at the Phantom Turbo Master's head, saying as loud and clear as possible, "Dumalofus Dumacas!"

Red and blue fireworks shot from the tip of the wand and blasted the Phantom Turbo Master in the face, catching him off guard. He shrieked in pain and let go of Sonic, reeling from the attack and trying to get the paint fireworks out of his eyes.

Even as the void around them started to glow, Sonic charged up a homing attack and went right for the super villain overlord's head and struck home, causing the dark monster to scream in pain and shock even more.

Recovering and regaining his bearings, the Phantom Turbo Monster glared at Sonic, eyes blazing with rage as he shouted, "YOU DARE DEFY THE PHANTOM TURBO MASTER? YOU DARE HUMILIATE ME?"

Sonic was about to boast about his awesomeness and attack the creature again when the void disappeared and he found himself falling through the sky towards the ground below. The hedgehog took notice to what was coming up, grassy castle grounds.

"The ground is coming up to meet you, hedgehog!" The Phantom Turbo Master chuckled, "It looks like this is game over for you, they say you can't survive looooooong falls and we're going about, oh, 10 feet?"

"Heh," Sonic remarked smugly, "I've survived huge falls before so its no prob. Besides, I like skydiving. I'm just as tough as Mario is whenever one of us falls from a high place! So, sorry buddy, looks like I'm probably gonna live to keep fightin' ya."

With those words, the hedgehog spin dashed the Phantom Turbo Master in the face one last time before finally hitting the ground... HARD! It wasn't enough to break his bones, but Sonic did feel hurt and probably bruised.

As the shadowy and monstrous form of the creature flew over, laughing maniacally, Sonic began to lose consciousness. But he was still breathing, his heart still beating, his bones hardly broken at all.

The hedgehog struggled to sit up, struggled to stand, but it was futile as he drifted into unconsciousness, blacking out from the pain as the Phantom Turbo Master came down, cackling triumphantly with Sonic defenseless and unable to move.

If there was one last thing the hedgehog could hear before he lost consciousness, it was the Phantom Turbo Master taunting him. Little did the blue hero know that his adventure in this unknown world had just started.
