Chapter Seven:
The Great Disaster
-Decades ago-
Mobian Street was bustling as it was peaceful.
Humans and anthropomorphic animals walked around the plaza and the roads, going about their peaceful lives within a not-so forgotten land of dreams. Well above them, the skies were blue with the sun gleaming down as its light energized the world. Car engines rumbled, and birds chirped while nesting in the small trees off the side of the roads.
A pudgy mouse sat on a bench by town hall, taking a break from his duties of leadership while enjoying a very blissful day. He tipped his hat to a brown cat, and ran a finger through his mustache. What was there to be worried about?
The bell within the town clock tower tolled, signaling that it was 12:00 P.M., and the resounding chime rang across the city.
Forty seconds later, a dark cloud passed over the sky, and covered the sun.
Yesterday, it had been predicted there would be sunny and clear weather with warm temperatures. However, as people took notice, the skies became dark with ominous clouds rolling in. The sunlight faded, and a chilly wind swept through the districts.
Moments later, thunder rumbled in the distance, as if to indicate it would rain. The dark, eerie clouds loomed over Mobian Street, like an angry maelstrom, and the booms of thunder became louder and louder as they came closer.
Everyone shielded their eyes as bright flashes of green and blue lightning went off, taking the town's citizens by surprise. Seconds later, the clouds churned, and a sinister vortex appeared in the middle of it, with an earsplitting howl echoing through the lands that rattled the hairs of every resident imaginable.
In another lightning flash, a handful of townspeople caught a glimpse of a large dark figure falling through the hole, with outstretched arms as it screamed.
The mysterious entity vanished, just moments before a pair of massive blue and green bottles appeared, spinning in midair before vanishing over the horizon as bewildered citizens observed.
Another moment later, the ground rumbled intensely, and a shadow loomed over the streets, but it wasn't from the clouds. A large tsunami of green-blue liquid resembling paint washed over the buildings, heading for those who dared to stand within its path.
Chaos engulfed Mobian Street, people ran for shelter, seeking higher ground, and the city council took action to save as many lives as possible. Steam filled the air as the ominous substance swept over buildings, damaging the rooftops, and ravaging the pavement of the street.
In the midst of the flood, shapes took form, monsters made from paint. They emerged from the waves, bringing terror to those fighting for survival. Most who didn't have time to run were caught in the tsunami, and met a grizzly fate.
By the time the flood ended, Mobian Street was a nightmare, invaded by beasts, and the dark entity known as the Phantom Turbo Master loomed over all...
