Sonny sat at his parents' kitchen table with Amanda by his side. He was so excited to propose but wanted Gina when he popped the question. He looked at his watch. She was already late, then again, she was always running late. His Ma used to tell her she would be late to her own funeral.
"It would have been nice if your sister had the decency to call and say she wasn't going to show up." Serafina Carisi said as she pulled the lasagna out of the oven.
"Ma, this isn't like Gina. Sure she's always late, but she would have let me know she was running behind." Sonny said. He had a gut feeling there was more to the situation then just running late. "I know you guys have your differences, but she promised she was going to come today. She wanted to meet Amanda."
Sonny patted Amanda on the leg. Who wouldn't want to meet his soon to be wife? Sonny looked at his phone again. Still no messages or calls.
"Excuse me for a moment." Sonny said as he got up from the table and made his way into the living room.
'Maybe you slept through your alarm. Wouldn't be the first time.' Sonny thought as he tried calling Gina.
Amanda found very awkward sitting at the table as Mr. and Mrs. Carisi bantered back and forth.
"I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up that Gina would actually show up." Serafina mumbled. "That girl has always been unreliable."
"I'm sure she will have a good excuse why she wasn't here on time, bringing in cannolis with her." Dominick "Dom" Carisi Sr. said patting Serafina's hand.
Dom was always the more understanding one. He knew Gina was the wild child and loved her anyway. He would go and see her in rehab when her mother wouldn't. He would make excuses for her behavior, which drove Serafina crazy.
"It's not like she ever learned to make them from me." Serafina rolled her eyes as she was placing food on the table.
Amanda had never heard Sonny talk about Gina. It sounded like she was kind of the black sheep of the family. Sonny was in a run when he came back into the kitchen. He quickly grabbed his keys and jacket.
"Dominick, where do you think your going? The lasagna is already getting cold." Serafina put her hands on her hips.
"I'm going to check on Gina. She's not answering my calls or texts." Sonny said. The nervousness in Sonny's voice worried Amanda.
"I'll go with you." Amanda said as she grabbed her jacket.
Serafina shook her head. "Leave it to Gina to ruin a family meal."
Sonny kissed his mother's cheek before lovingly putting his hands on her shoulders.
"I'm sure everything's fine Ma." Sonny said.
"She probably left her phone at the club again." Sonny didn't miss the snark in his mother's voice.
"I will go get her and then we can continue with a peaceful dinner." Sonny stated.
Dominick Senior walked Sonny and Amanda to the door. He was already impressed that his son had found such a beautiful woman.
"Amanda, it was so nice to finally meet you." Dom said as he gave her a hug.
"You to Mr. Carisi." Amanda said, a little thrown off by the hug.
As they made their way to the SUV, Amanda noticed the urgency in Sonny's walk. After she buckled her seatbelt, she placed her hand on Sonny's before he put the SUV in gear.
"Sonny?" Amanda said trying to gain his attention.
Sonny turned toward her. She could tears trying to form in his eyes.
"What's really going on?" Amanda asked.
"I honestly don't know. But I have a bad feeling about this. Gina always answers me whether it be call or text. I called her hotel room, and it said the phone was disconnected." Sonny sighed. He was trying so hard to keep focused and not think of anything bad happening to his little sister.
"Should I call Liv?" Amanda asked, reaching to get her phone out of her pocket.
"No let's give Gina the benefit of the doubt first." Sonny answered as he put the SUV in drive and sped off.
The rest of the ride was quiet. Sonny had tracked Gina's phone down to a shady motel. He jumped out of the car and ran up the stairs as fast as he could. Amanda was right behind him. She wished she would have had her gun with her, just in case but she didn't think she would need it to go and eat with the Carisi's.
"Gina? Gina, open up!" Sonny yelled as he banged on the door.
Joe opened the door with a towel around his waist. Amanda was shocked to see he was covered in blood.
"Carisi? I thought you were the paramedics." Joe was very confused. Why would Carisi and Rollins be the ones to show up?
Sonny pushed past Joe. He didn't have time to find out why Joe was in his sister's motel room.
"Oh my God!" Sonny gasped as he covered his mouth, trying not to get sick from the sight in front of him. He rushed over to Gina. She was covered in blood. He may be a lawyer now but from his time of being a detective told him this was no accident. Gina had been stabbed multiple times. He grabbed a blanket that was near Gina and tried to stop the bleeding to her chest and abdomen.
"No!" Gina whispered as she gasped for breath.
"What the hell's going on?" Joe asked Amanda, still very confused and in shock.
Amanda stepped into the motel room and gasped trying to make sense of the whole situation.
"Gina, just hold on. Stay with me." Sonny begged as he ran a hand through Gina's hair.
Then it donned on Sonny who else was in the room. He stepped away from Gina and rushed Joe, pinning him against the wall.
"What are you doing with my sister?" Sonny growled.
"That's you sister?" Joe's eyes went wide.
Before Sonny thought about his actions, he punched Joe in the face knocking him to the ground.
"What did you do to her? Rape her then try to kill her?" Sonny accused.
Sonny got on top of Joe, pinning him to the floor he repeatedly punched him.
Joe threw his hands up in surrender. "I found her like that, I swear! I was in the shower and when I got out, she was gasping for air. It wasn't me I promise!"
Amanda had to push Sonny off Joe. She had to deescalate the situation, or they wouldn't be needing an ambulance but the coroner's office.
"Don't say another word Velasco!" Amanda screamed.
"You're taking his side?" Sonny asked with pain in his eyes.
Amanda didn't answer, instead she was cut off by paramedics rushing into the room.
"I need to go with her!" Sonny said as the paramedics quickly got Gina onto a stretcher.
Amanda put a hand on Sonny's chest to stop him.
"No, you need to stay here. You assaulted a police officer. Give your statement and we will go from there. I'll go with her. I promise I won't leave her side." Amanda promised. She could see that Sonny was about to lose it.
He nodded and watched as Amanda ran out the door with the paramedics.
Joe sat down on the edge of the bed and whispered "I'm not going to press charges. I'm not telling anyone you hit me. You had every right."
Sonny leaned down and got in Joe's face. "I swear Velasco, if she dies, hitting you was the least of your problems."
Sonny quickly stood up straight when he saw the officer walked into the room. He faintly heard the officer reading Velasco his rights and walking him out in handcuffs. The room started to spin, and he felt like he was going to pass out. How could something like this happen to his sister. One of the officers saw Sonny go pale.
"Easy counselor, why don't you sit down for a minute." The officer said as he pulled over a chair.
Sonny put his head in his hands. He couldn't bare to look at the bed that had Gina's blood on it.
"I heard this was your sister. Can I give you a ride to the hospital?" The officer said, compassion in his eyes.
Sonny nodded. Once he got his bearings, the officer helped him out to the car and sped toward the hospital.
In the back of the ambulance, Amanda sat next to Gina. She took the young girl's hand. She was only semi-conscious but if she could tell her what happened it would really help in the coming investigation Amanda knew would follow.
"Hey sweetie, can you tell me who did this to you?" Amanda asked in a soothing voice. The calmness in her voice was nothing like her on the inside. She was freaking out for Gina, Sonny, and not to mention Mr. and Mrs. Carisi when they found out what happened.
"J…jo…" Gina choked out before her eyes rolled back in her head.
"We're losing her!" The paramedic yelled out as he prepared to intubate her.
"Hang on sweetie, we're almost there. We are going to get who did this to you." Amanda reassured Gina, hoping that she heard her.
