AN: This chapter...was a tough nut for me to write. One of the most difficult chapters to date. I was constantly plagued by writers block and I have lost count how many times I rewrote sections of it only to still find it unsatisfactory, so much so that for a while I wasn't sure if I could finish it.

I can only hope that it's up to standard and that it at least get's an E for Exceed Expectations. (Maybe I'm also just expecting too much from myself)

Either way, depending on how much time I have to write in the next few weeks - and my muse -, it might be a while before you get further chapter as I first need to get my thoughts back in order. Don't expect another chapter for at least a month. So much has changed from my constantly changing original layout/story outline that it's now a different story. Add in real life constraints which are constantly messing with me as well and...well...you get the idea.

Anyway...Please, enjoy!

The New Princess

Hogwarts Year 1 - Part 10 - Chapter 22

A Tyrant's Shame!

Previously:

"Are you okay?" Aryanna, currently Sailor Moon, asked, worriedly. She had never seen a battle between two minds before, least of all a real-life exorcism, revealing just how much she still had to learn. At that moment, she doubted that anybody but Setsuna could have handled the momentous task with the relative ease she had. Everybody else would probably have failed at the attempt.

Setsuna nodded. "Yes, I'm fine. It was only a fragment of his power... a part of his soul. But a soul piece nonetheless, and those are never easy to defeat."

With her task complete, Setsuna allowed herself to transform back into her human civilian form. Seeing that Sailor Moon was also no longer needed, Aryanna sighed and was about to do the same and reluctantly transform back into her schoolgirl self when Setsuna stopped her.

"Not yet!"

Confused, Aryanna looked at her in puzzlement but shrugged and obeyed, quite content to remain as Sailor Moon for the time being. She was in no hurry to transform back if she didn't need to.

"One last task remains before it's your turn..." Setsuna said, then smiled. "I think it's time you informed Hermione of who she has become. There is no better time than now, and I dare say, that seeing Moon in all of her splendor will prove far more convincing. Don't you agree?" she said as she handed Aryanna a certain wand with the symbol of a Caduceus engraved on it. It was the Mercury transformation wand. Hermione's... Sailor Mercury wand.

Aryanna's eyes widened before she too smiled in agreement. Understanding excitement appeared on her face. 'Oh yes, this is going to be so much fun,' she thought as she eagerly awaited her friend's arrival.

Superheroes got so few chances to reveal to their friends who they were under all of their protective layers and masks. She was going to enjoy this as much as she could.

And now the continuation:

In the serene safety of a quiet corner of the library, Hermione Granger found herself grappling with the 22nd inch of her self-imposed 10-inch Potions assignment. The soft rustle of turning pages and the sporadic whispered exchanges of fellow students crafted an atmosphere of concentrated solitude—a haven she currently desperately craved.

Having completed her Defense Against the Dark Arts assignment an hour earlier, her mind was left unoccupied, free to wander. The abrupt conclusion of the Potions class by Professor Snape, who had neglected, or rather been unable, to assign any additional tasks, had left Hermione seeking a much-needed diversion from the day's disconcerting events.

Extra work had always been a dependable refuge in the past—a sanctuary for her unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a shield from bullies. However, at this moment, the last few lines of her essay remained elusive to her. Her thoughts were constantly dominated by worry for her friends. Just hours earlier, she had witnessed Professor Snape subject Aryanna to a harsh caning for the audacity of daring to request he assist some classmates after a potions mishap—a sight that deeply disturbed Hermione.

This incident had sparked a chilling recollection of a crucial turning point in her past. Hermione had always been the epitome of a model student, a 'goody-two-shoes,' and a 'teacher's pet,' displaying near-fanatical obedience to authority figures. So much so that she had even once betrayed her classmates, much to their annoyance and her subsequent remorse after she had realized what she had done - and they had let her know of their displeasure. However, everything had changed when Aryanna had entered her life—the moment she stood up to defend Hermione against three bullies.

Aryanna's bravery in defending her from her tormentors had opened Hermione's eyes to the fallibility and injustice of authority figures. Instead of safeguarding her, the teachers had chosen to penalize Aryanna instead of the boys. Her only transgression was standing up against the three bullies. The teachers, in their so-called wisdom, had only noticed the bruises and the three crying boys, caring only about maintaining order, instead of what had truly happened.

Or perhaps they simply hadn't cared enough to find out the truth. Hermione wasn't sure which was worse.

They had only cared about the fact that Aryanna had thrown the first punch. As if she had had a choice. What else was she supposed to do when they had seized her and started to shove her around? One had even raised a hand to slap her. Simply stand there and let them? Highly unlikely!

In the end, the boys had cried the loudest, and with their numerous injuries as evidence to support their side of the story—whereas Aryanna due to her martial arts skills had few—and the fact that one of the boy's fathers was a drinking buddy of the principal—though they had only discovered that later—had managed to sway the teachers to rule in their favor.

And so, Aryanna's 'reward' for her bravery - and incidentally also Hermione's own sentence for inadvertently joining into the evolving brawl, was a painful trip to the principal's office. It was the only time she had ever received a full six of the best. The injustice of the situation stung her still to this day.

Coincidentally and thankfully, it was also the time she had made her first friend—who had since then evolved into becoming her BFF. They had been inseparable and the best of friends ever since. On an extra side note: she had later sent the principal a 'Thank You' letter stating that fact after she had left the school after graduation. A bit petty perhaps...and a bit immature, but she was a child, and it had felt good at the time. Unsurprisingly, she had never received a response. It was probably for the best.

It was at that moment, that Hermione's faith in teachers had been irrevocably shattered. From then on, she began to question authority figures, realizing that they were not infallible and could be unjust. Without Setsuna and her formidable team of lawyers, Hermione was certain the three boys would have evaded punishment, and Aryanna—and possibly even herself—would have faced expulsion.

And now...now, the recent clash with Professor Snape had deepened Hermione's skepticism. It seemed no matter where she went history seemed to be repeating itself. Only this time the bullies had been replaced by an even larger bully, a professor, and Aryanna had been the one needing to be rescued instead. Some things, she thought, always stayed the same. Hermione sighed wearily. It was futile; she would not be able to finish her essay in her current state of mind. Her heart simply wasn't in it at that moment.

She tried to recall exactly what had transpired.

While Aryanna had indeed insulted Snape - even going so far as to call him incompetent to his face in front of the entire class, she had only done so after he had insulted her deceased father. The severity of his response to her counter-insult however had surpassed all expectations. To her horror, despite Aryanna's supposed exemption from corporal punishment, Snape had completely disregarded it and caned her most severely, which had then resulted in Susan's intervention when it had become too unbearable to watch. Hermione was certain that, had Susan not intervened, Aryanna might even have sustained lasting injuries.

The result was that Aryanna had ended up in the hospital wing, alongside Snape, who had been blasted into a wall after Susan had retaliated.

Hermione sighed as her quill suddenly snapped, her grip tightening excessively in frustration. It was futile; she would not be able to finish her essay in her current state of mind. Her heart simply wasn't in it at that moment.

'What will happen now?' Hermione wondered, her spare quill dotting the last line with a heavy heart. 'Attacking a teacher like that?' she fretted, acknowledging the gravity of Susan's intervention. Even if it had spared Aryanna from lasting injury, attacking a teacher, especially as a student...usually never ended well.

Hermione was deeply worried and already mentally preparing herself, that by the end of the day, she might very well be watching at least one of her friends pack her bags and leave the school - on their first day no less.

Hermione closed her eyes in despair. The last she had seen of Susan was her willingly handing in her wand to a shocked McGonagall after telling her what had happened in class and then being led away to the deputy's office, no doubt expecting to be harshly punished for her actions.

A tear fell from her eyes to land on a line of her nearly completed essay. Hastily she put it away before it could be ruined any further. What would she do if Susan or Aryanna left the school? She didn't want to even consider one of them leaving. Even worse, what would she do if both of them left? They were practically the only true friends she had. She didn't even want to consider staying in Hogwarts if they were forced to leave or left of their own accord.

As Hermione pondered the uncertain future of her friends, she decided to call it a day. 'Perhaps some fresh air will do me good,' she thought wearily.

With a heavy heart, she packed her belongings into her bag and navigated through the silent rows of bookshelves toward the library's exit.

Once outside, she ambled towards the front door. The evening air was crisp, and the castle's exterior was unusually quiet. 'They're probably all in the common rooms by now,' she thought. It was getting late. She likely had only an hour left before she had to return or risk breaking curfew. Swiftly waving her wand as she walked, she checked the time - 'Thank you Aryanna for teaching me this,' she thought - and nodded approvingly as the ghostly numbers appeared from the tip of her wand. A little over an hour was left before she had to head for the common room. Just enough time for a leisurely walk or one last activity. Which one should she do?

Suddenly she smiled, as an idea crossed her mind—perhaps she could find an abandoned classroom and use the Mercury computer to start her research into alternate ways of creating a Lumos charm and the differences when using it between wand and wandless magic? She was acutely aware that it was a very ambitious sixth-year topic and that she was only a first-year, but with the computer to assist her...it shouldn't be an issue. The computer practically did all the work by itself anyway.

Was it cheating? Maybe. But Hermione had learned a long time ago, that only fools didn't use every form of resource when available. As long as she understood it later, it would be ok.

As it was, the mere prospect of diving into magical research provided a momentary spark of excitement, effectively driving any thoughts of Susan and Aryanna from her mind. For the moment at least. This was exactly what she needed right now. She considered heading back to the library, but then she remembered Madam Pince's disapproving reaction to it during a previous encounter. The librarian had made it clear that such advanced magical artifacts - or rather muggle artifacts - were unwelcome in the library.

'An abandoned room it is then. Which one will it be?' she wondered as she headed back inside and began to search the school for a quiet room, one that was well away from any prying eyes, to settle down in.

As she roamed the corridors, she suddenly came across a few students who were engaged in conversation.

The three figures were engrossed in an animated discussion, their voices filled with excitement and speculation. Hermione, momentarily curious, hid behind a nearby statue, who after looking down at her, gave her a knowing nod and a wink. She eavesdropped on their conversation.

The first one, a third-year boy, exclaimed: "Did you hear? I heard that Aryanna Potter dueled Snape in class! Both of them ended up in the hospital wing!"

Hermione froze mid-step in her walk. 'WHAT! No, she didn't!' she thought, taken aback by the boy's claim.

"No, it wasn't a duel. I heard that Aryanna led a rebellion against Snape's unfair point deductions. Snape then attacked her, and another student stepped in to help her," a second student, this time a girl, corrected.

"Good for her, it's about time someone stood up against the Dungeon Bat," another student commented back.

'Seriously?' Hermione thought, annoyed. 'Where do they get these ridiculous ideas? What's next... Aryanna gaining godlike Merlin-like powers and smiting Snape with them like an angry angel of wrath out for revenge?'

A sudden niggling feeling in the back of her head reminded her of that sudden flash of light and explosion after Susan's spell had hit Snape.

'NO...surely not. It couldn't...she wouldn't...'

"No, that's not right... I heard that it wasn't Aryanna but Susan Bones...the heir of the Bones family, who did that," a third boy said. "I heard it from a Slytherin who was complaining about it. He was supposed to meet up with Snape but couldn't because the greasy bat was in the Hospital wing. Supposedly, Bones blew up Snape after he started beating Aryanna," he clarified.

Hermione frowned, irked by the spread of misinformation. She was about to interject and set the story straight from her perspective. However, before she could do so, a sudden pop echoed throughout the corridor. A house-elf materialized, right in front of her.

Startled, Hermione jumped, knocking into the statue at the sudden noise, and stared at the elf in surprise, causing the three older students to cease their conversation and move away.

"Miss Grangey, you be summoned by Headmaster Greybeard Dumbles. Your immediate presence be requested in the Hospital wing," the house-elf announced. Then, waiting only long enough to reassure itself that the message had been successfully delivered, the elf disappeared again, leaving Hermione alone to gather her thoughts.

'Well, that certainly changes my plans for the evening. I wonder what he wants with me?' she thought, promptly forgetting about the trio. Anxiously, she pondered why she had just been summoned by the Headmaster of all people. As far as she knew, she had no reason to be summoned. At least not yet. She didn't think so.

Seeing as the older students were no longer in the vicinity, and that the sudden summons had effectively ruined any chance of implementing her previous plans for the evening, Hermione shrugged. The sooner she went, the sooner she would find out what her new Headmaster wanted. It wasn't like she had any choice.

The hushed rumors about Aryanna and Snape momentarily forgotten, guided by the mysterious summons, she headed toward the hospital wing, her thoughts clouded with uncertainty about what awaited her there.

If she was lucky, she might even be able to talk to Aryanna. Even if not, simply knowing she was okay would be enough.

A few minutes ago in the hospital wing.

"So, are we all in agreement?" Dumbledore's voice echoed through the room, seeking confirmation from the gathered individuals.

Aryanna exhaled heavily with a heavy sigh, her breath laden with disappointment and resignation. The current outcome fell far short of her hopes; she had wished for Snape's dismissal, yet it remained elusive.

"Three steps forward, two steps back," she thought miserably. Having just spent the past few minutes listening to Dumbledore defend Snape's actions, she wasn't thrilled about it, however, she was mature enough to admit that it was the correct course of action. Glancing at Susan, her friend appeared equally resigned, gazing off into space. "This just isn't fair!" she thought angrily.

The problem lay with the fact that Snape had been a puppet, manipulated by Voldemort. While his contempt and desire to hurt her had been real, Aryanna knew that Snape couldn't be punished for his feelings towards her, only for his actions. 'His' action being the key word. As much as she loathed to acknowledge it, he had not been fully in control of himself when he had caned her, and not at all when he had tried to take her life. It was a very vexing loophole. One which Dumbledore was making full use of.

With reluctance, Aryanna nodded. "Yes." She despised herself for admitting it but knew it was the right thing to do. "Considering Snape was under Voldemort's control during the attack on me and Susan, even if his personal feelings toward me are questionable at best, and they are, you can't deny that, it would be unjust to punish him for today's events," she acknowledged reluctantly. "Unfortunately!" she added, her bitterness evident in her tone of voice.

"Excellent! In that case…," Dumbledore began to say, but Setsuna swiftly cut him off before he could continue, determined not to let Dumbledore steer the terms to his advantage. "However!.." she interjected, "while I will always believe in second chances when deserved," she emphasized the deserved part, "no one can deny that Mr. Snape holds a very worrying amount of bias towards the other houses, Gryffindor in particular, and an even more alarming dislike towards my niece due to a personal grudge he harbors towards her deceased father. One which he has now transferred onto her," she started to say. Aryanna and Susan looked at her with renewed interest while Dumbledore winced. As much as he wanted to deny it, he could not. It was all true and everybody knew it.

"Mr Snape has proven on many occasions throughout the past decade, that he is either unable or unwilling to act professionally while performing his duties as a professor. When dealing with Aryanna, his feelings, no matter how influenced they might have been by Voldemort at the time, were also still ultimately his own. Furthermore, his behavior as a whole towards the students this last decade is equally unacceptable and entirely unworthy for a member of this esteemed faculty and can no longer be allowed to continue. As such, I'll only agree to allow Mr Snape to continue his tenure as a professor under specific conditions."

Setsuna looked directly at Dumbledore before she continued. "Deny me these, Headmaster, and I, as both a member of the Board of Governors and as the regent of Houses Potter and Peverell and all of their attached houses, will ensure that Snape will never return to Hogwarts again, at least not in any authoritative position over the students," Setsuna declared, her voice was serious and her resolve palpable.

Aryanna and Susan exchanged glances of glee at Setsuna's words. Even Poppy nodded in agreement. Innocent of the crime or not, none of them were willing to allow Snape's unacceptable behavior to go unchecked any further. The terms were non-negotiable.

Dumbledore sighed wearily but agreed. "Of course, it's the least we should do after what happened," he conceded. He grudgingly accepted that now was not the correct time to argue. Not only would it mean angering the Potters and the Bones, with both potentially leaving Hogwarts, something which he wanted to avoid, but he also knew very well that, if Setsuna decided to go ahead and prosecute Severus, then with the combined political power of all of the houses under her control, even if she ultimately failed to convict Severus, she had more than enough power to ruin him, if she desired to do so, innocent or not. There simply was no favorable outcome here.

Setsuna smiled, satisfied with Dumbledore's compliance, and Aryanna and Susan breathed a collective sigh of relief. While Snape would remain at Hogwarts, at least they would not be leaving empty-handed.

Suddenly, a parchment materialized in Setsuna's hands, with a quill hovering above it. She handed both to Dumbledore. "As Headmaster and Chief Mugwump - to protect Mr. Snape from casting the killing curse and so that there can be no misunderstandings - this needs to be done by your hand. Your official approval will be necessary to make it as legally binding as possible. I will act as the official representative of the Governors of Hogwarts while Aryanna, Susan, and Poppy will be witnesses. Let us begin!"

Dumbledore nodded, understanding the solemnity of the task at hand. He began to speak, "In recognition of the unique circumstances surrounding the recent incident, Severus Snape, will be allowed to retain his freedom and employment at Hogwarts..."

"... under certain strict conditions. Deviating from these conditions will result in his immediate dismissal as a professor at Hogwarts if found guilty," Setsuna interjected once again before he could say more. Just like a few seconds before, Setsuna was once again not willing to give him any leeway. She knew he would try and make use of any opportunity or loophole if given the chance.

Aryanna, with her arms crossed, looked expectantly, and beside her, Susan observed with keen interest. Both girls were well aware of the significance of the moment. Susan still couldn't fully grasp that they had emerged victorious - or that she had survived a killing curse. Another bond she now shared with Aryanna. Snape's fate was currently firmly under their control. Unable to wriggle out of their grasp, both girls knew very well that they currently had him firmly by the proverbial balls and they intended to squeeze them for all they could. It was either compliance or prison time for Snape and the girls were determined to make the most of their newfound leverage.

Dumbledore frowned, annoyed that Setsuna had once again taken control away from him. She was beginning to annoy him greatly. He sighed and nodded, helplessly allowing Setsuna to continue." In exchange for Professor Snape's continued employment at Hogwarts and our silence regarding his casting of an Unforgivable Curse earlier, I propose the following," Setsuna began.

"Firstly, Mr. Snape will be required to undergo mandatory counseling sessions with both a qualified mind healer and a muggle psychiatrist," she continued.

Aryanna nodded in approval. Snape's unresolved issues towards her father, James Potter, and herself had to be resolved, one way or another. She refused to be subjected to his vindictive behavior any longer.

"Obviously, the story of the...' incident,' will need to be tailored to abide by muggle standards, but this is non-negotiable, Headmaster. I will not be bullied by him any longer," Aryanna emphasized, earning a nod of approval from Setsuna.

This was something Aryanna thought was vital if there was ever going to be any chance for herself and Susan to be in the same room as the professor in the future. Counseling had worked out well for her in dealing with her abusive past, so it should work for Snape as well. "I will not tolerate his...childish behavior towards me to continue."

Hearing this, Dumbledore hesitated slightly but agreed. It was fortunate that Snape was currently unconscious and not able to hear this. He would no doubt not have been impressed. However, his hatred for James had to be addressed, now more than ever. He only hoped that Severus would also agree and see the wisdom in this as well.

"Secondly, Professor Snape will be given a choice: he may remain as a professor, but only under very strict guidelines, or, if he prefers, he can resign and take on a different role within the Hogwarts staff," Setsuna continued, laying out Snape's options. Aryanna and Susan shared a vindictive smile, knowing Snape would despise either choice.

Both knew that the only two positions available - other than that of a professor - and both were not exactly glamorous. Snape's options were to be either; an assistant caretaker under Filch, or... to be an assistant groundskeeper under Hagrid. Both girls felt like giggling at the mere thought as both doubted Snape would willingly take either position.

"No matter what he chooses, he will be placed on probation for at least one year, minimum, to be reviewed at the end of the year, with all his actions under scrutiny until he has proven that he is capable... and willing to act fairly and professionally, as expected as a faculty member of Hogwarts. Until that time, punishments given to students will be reviewed weekly by another faculty member," Setsuna declared firmly, ensuring Snape's accountability. Hearing this, Aryanna smirked even further, feeling a sense of profound satisfaction at the thought of Snape's diminished authority. She couldn't help but relish the prospect of his reaction upon awakening to the news of his severely diminished power. At that moment, Aryanna wished she could be a fly on the wall to witness Snape's expression when he found out.

"Good! Maybe he'll think twice before showing bias from now on," Aryanna remarked with a smirk, causing Dumbledore to wince. "Agreed," echoed the others, fully supporting Setsuna's conditions.

Here, Dumbledore interjected. "Agreed, but he must still be able to act as an effective member of staff. His probation cannot undermine his authority to discipline those deserving punishment," he added, ignoring a mumbled "unfortunately" and "what a pity" from the two girls.

"Agreed. However, as stated, he will be watched and judged. Any unfair punishments will be rescinded. Points deductions will be reviewed, and any physical chastisement will be deferred to another professor to be carried out at a later time. Professor Snape will no longer be allowed to administer it himself," Setsuna countered sternly, giving both girls a slight glare at their comments.

Aryanna allowed herself another subtle smirk. That alone was a significant victory. Call her petty if you want, but it sure felt good. She would take everything she could get...and then some. No one caned her with impunity.

That said, revenge wasn't usually a sentiment she embraced lightly, yet, in this instance, she couldn't deny the satisfaction of seeing Snape held accountable for his actions. Besides, it wasn't just about personal vendettas; it was about upholding justice in the face of adversity. Snape was the most hated and feared professor for a reason. If what she heard from older students was correct, then in the past, there wasn't a single day when someone did not have to bend over for some sort of punishment.

Also, there was another side effect to consider as well. She couldn't help but reflect on the irony of the situation. Snape, once feared and loathed, now stood at the mercy of those he once tormented. The tables had turned, and Aryanna now found herself grappling with the weight of her newfound influence.

Not that it had been a part of her plan when she had 'allowed' Snape to...' punish' her, but by the end of the day, her and Susan's popularity would skyrocket for 'defanging the Vampire'. Quite a nice bonus!

It wasn't just about retribution either; it was about reclaiming agency in a world where authority often felt arbitrary and unjust.

Though Aryanna hadn't planned for the surge of popularity that followed her confrontation with Snape, she couldn't deny the allure of newfound admiration. Yet, amidst the accolades and adulation from her peers, she couldn't shake the nagging doubt that lingered in the recesses of her mind. The victory came at a cost, and Aryanna knew that the true test of her character lay in how she now wielded her newfound influence.

Her thoughts were brought back to the matter at hand as she heard Setsuna speak once more.

"Should Mr. Snape decide to retain his role of Potions professor, Mr. Snape will be expected to adhere to the professional teaching standards expected of all Hogwarts professors. That means no more pointless harassing of students, and he is to prioritize teaching the basics before engaging in potion brewing, and his punishments, especially those of a physical nature, must be fair. Failure to comply will result in immediate termination. I won't have him sabotage potions and with it future healers and aurors any longer. This is also non-negotiable. No matter your or his reason for allowing these acts of blatant favoritism in the past. They stop now!"

"No, Headmaster...I said, this is non-negotiable, " she repeated when she saw him begin to open his mouth to argue. "The Magical community needs qualified and competent aurous and med personal. Now more than ever."

Dumbledore glanced at her with a melancholic expression. He knew how much Snape disliked teaching potions. While Severus was a brilliant brewer - one of the best in the world - he was not a good teacher. Besides, he had never wanted to teach potions. His dream job had always been Defence against the dark arts. But with the curse on the position he had been very unwilling to give him the position. He wondered if he should reconsider, depending on whether Quirrell survived the year and Severus' choice, he might finally grant him his wish.

Unaware of Dumbledore's thoughts, Setsuna nodded and resolutely said, "That should cover it. I'm sorry that it had to come to this, Headmaster, but we need assurances that he won't jeopardize the safety, unfairly influence, or indeed 'bully' the students in the future."

Dumbledore finally nodded. He knew he had no choice and it was the right thing to do. Yes, it would compromise Snape's ability to act as a spy if the Dark Lord were ever to return, and it would make his job of keeping the more darkly inclined children under control significantly more difficult. It would also undoubtedly earn him the ire of Voldemort's remaining followers, but... he sighed. It was necessary. For the greater good...his greater good, it needed to be done. At least he had managed to keep poor Severus on as head of Slytherin house. For now at least. He needed Snape to remain as head of Slytherin house to keep the more dark-leaning Slytherins under control. Thankfully there was no rule saying that a caretaker could not also be a head of house. "Very well, my dear. Anything else?"

Aryanna chose this moment to speak up. "One extra thing... I doubt that," here she sighed before adding "Professor Snape or I, would be happy to see each other in class from now on. As such, may I propose that, if he decides to stay on as a professor, I and, if possible, my guardians be permitted to employ a separate potions master to teach us, so that we can avoid or at least keep to a bare minimum any potential future confrontations between each other?"

Setsuna nodded in agreement and added, "That's an excellent suggestion. I don't feel comfortable with you being in the same class with him at present. In fact, I would prefer if you limit any interaction with him altogether until he shows no further animosity towards you. If circumstances improve, we can reassess the situation later. The expenses for this arrangement would naturally be covered by the Potter estate."

Dumbledore frowned, not entirely pleased with the arrangement but was unable to find a valid reason to object. He concluded that maybe keeping Aryanna and Severus separated was likely for the best. "I'm agreeable to this," he said with a shrug. Aryanna visibly relaxed, and Susan silently cheered, knowing they'd avoid further classes with Snape. They anticipated becoming the envy of the whole school.

"Anything else?" Dumbledore inquired. He hoped that was all. His only wish at that moment was for the meeting to end.

Setsuna exchanged a meaningful look with Aryanna and Susan, both of whom frowned in thought before shrugging. Seeing no further suggestions incoming Setsuna turned back to face the professor. "No, I believe that should suffice. I will commence the search for a suitable replacement for Mr. Snape in the event that Mr. Snape chooses to resign or our measures don't bring about a positive change. I believe the girls' tutor may be interested should it become necessary."

Dumbledore sighed again and nodded in agreement, his heart heavy with the weight of the day's events. He hoped Snape would make the right choice going forward. Putting an end to his biased behavior influenced by his animosity towards James would be great. Snape's fate hung in the balance. "Agreed," he finally acquiesced, receiving smiles and sighs of relief from all present.

"Excellent, perhaps now that he actually has to teach, I won't have as many injured students visiting me so often," Poppy Pomfrey said cheerfully with a hint of sarcasm in her tone. She was already eagerly thinking of all the extra spare time she might now have, now that she no longer had to deal with overstressed or injured students. Potion accidents made up a sizable percentage of all her duties. "I might now be able to conduct a few more check-ups as well. I haven't been able to keep up with them as much as I wanted." She added, already thinking of a few children from muggle families she wanted to check up on for potential abuse. This would finally free up enough of her time to allow her to do just that. 'I might even have time to teach an apprentice of my own.' For years she had hoped to do so but had never had the chance. 'This is going to be great!' she thought happily, already looking forward to the challenge.

Hogwarts Governors, and herself, Susan, and Poppy as witnesses, Aryanna couldn't shake a strange mix of victory and uncertainty. Despite the excruciating pain she had endured during the caning, her plan had succeeded. Her gamble in allowing Snape to cane her, to incriminate him, hadn't gone exactly as planned, but it had ultimately proved successful.

In six agonizingly painful strokes, ironically one of her best decisions to date despite the pain, she had achieved what many students had only dreamed of – putting Snape in check, potentially even into checkmate. However, she also knew that from now on, navigating the future delicate balance of tolerance and professionalism with Snape would be a true challenge. Whether Snape was a professor or a caretaker, it would make no difference. They would still have to co-exist and interact. For better or worse, severely limited as it now was, he would still be in a position of power over her, with the right to punish her if she messed up. Only this time, he would need a valid reason - and proof - to do so.

She steeled herself, determined to abide by the rules while refusing to tolerate any more unjust treatment. Snape would undoubtedly be vigilant, more than ever now, like a bloodhound, searching for any opportunity to legally punish her in the future. Nevertheless, she acknowledged that even without this agreement in place, Snape would likely have done so anyway. She would simply have to hope for the best and see if it all worked out.

Back with Hermione at that moment,

While Aryanna, Susan, and Setsuna were finalizing Snape's continued employment at Hogwarts, Hermione found herself approaching the hospital wing. The faint sounds coming from within piqued her curiosity. Knowing she was summoned, she briefly knocked, then gently pushed open the door. The knock and gentle creaking of the door promptly silenced those within and all eyes turned towards her.

Stepping inside, Hermione's gaze swept across the unfamiliar surroundings. This was her first visit to the hospital wing, and the concept of a magical infirmary intrigued her. Having seen the sterile environments of Muggle hospitals and read about the general unhygienic hospital wards of the medieval world, her expectations were generally low. She hoped however that the usage and exitance of magic would compensate for any perceived shortcomings of the wizarding world's medieval mindset. While optimistic, she braced herself for antiquated, possibly unhygienic conditions.

Three distinctive features immediately caught her attention.

Firstly, as expected, the absence of electronic equipment, typical of Hogwarts and the magical world in general was quite prevalent. It ensured a serene silence devoid of the incessant beeping of medical machines. Her new computer strangely seemed to be a rare exception to the rule that electronics didn't work due to magical interference. She wondered why that was. What made her computer so special?

Secondly, the hospital wing was spotlessly clean, dispelling any worries she may have had of encountering substandard cleanliness reminiscent of the Dark Ages. It was as if bacteria - or indeed anything potentially harmful to the patients inside - were banished from this place, likely due to specialized wards or charms.

Thirdly, the room struck a perfect balance of spaciousness. The low clutter, easily traversable room, with high ceilings and notably cozy beds, complete with cooling curtains and privacy panels, equipped with self-adjusting charms for patients of all sizes, impressed Hermione. She recalled from "Hogwarts: A History" how Hogwarts' magic prevented overcrowding by expanding rooms as needed. The air carried a comforting scent of potions and magical essences, a welcome departure from the sterile antiseptic smell of Muggle hospitals. The warm ambiance of the room eased her initial worries, reassuring her that overcrowding wouldn't be an issue here, unlike in many Muggle hospitals. However, staffing might still be a concern.

Further into the room, she noticed shelves brimming with potions and magical healing artifacts. She recognized only a few but was eager to learn more. The room was bathed in a soft, friendly light, and the air was fragrant with potions and other magical substances.

"Whoa! This isn't so bad," Hermione exclaimed aloud to herself, pleasantly surprised, only to startle a second later when a friendly, yet unfamiliar voice responded, "Welcome to the Hogwarts Hospital Wing, Hermione, your home away from home when you're not feeling well. Please come inside, we have much to discuss."

Expecting to see the school nurse, Hermione turned towards the voice and gasped at the surprising sight before her. Alongside the nurse and the Headmaster, as expected, stood another unexpected figure.

Her eyes widened in astonishment, quickly shifting to a look of complete shock, bordering on reverence, as her brain registered the scene before her. Standing beside the nurse was a very famous person, one she recognized instantly.

The shock on Hermione's face must have been evident as the figure smiled at her and gave her a small wave. "Hi Hermione, glad you could join us."

"Oh my...God!" Hermione gasped, her voice a blend of awe and disbelief as she realized who it was she was seeing. It was Sailor Moon!

Hermione was in disbelief. It felt surreal. What was one of the famous superheroes doing here? And more importantly, what did she want with her? she wondered perplexed.

She had followed Sailor Moon's adventures on TV and read all about her in the news. She was also a huge fan of the Guardians and a member of the Guardian fan club. Therefore seeing one of the iconic superheroes in person was quite an experience. Even more astonishing, Sailor Moon seemed to recognize her. Her! They had never met her before. The moment was so overwhelming that Hermione had to sit on a nearby bed to steady herself.

Aryanna, still dressed in her Sailor Moon uniform, blushed at Hermione's reaction. Knowing very well that, due to the secrecy abilities of her Sailor suit, Hermione didn't recognize her for who she truly was, as she didn't know the secret of her true identity. She wouldn't until she told her the secret of her identity, or Hermione transformed into Mercury. At the moment all Hermione saw was an older woman, dressed in her iconic sailor costume. Even her voice was different.

Setsuna, back in her civilian attire, sensed her dilemma and stepped forward, drawing Hermione's attention. "Not god my dear. Close...but not quite...that's Sailor Moon. Hello, Hermione," Setsuna greeted, offering a polite smile.

"Setsuna!" Hermione exclaimed. "What are you... oh right... of course... you're here to see Aryanna. Where is Aryanna, is she okay? And... what is...she...doing here?" she asked wide-eyed from her place on the bed. The moment was a bit too much for her. She was certain she must be dreaming.

'Yes, that's it... I'm dreaming. The stress of the day probably became too much for her and she fell asleep. Any second now and I'll wake up in my bed...or in the library, to get scolded by Madam Pince - like every other librarian before her - for still being in the library after curfew. Everything will be back to normal.

The sound of a giggle brought her back to reality. "It's real, Mione... you're not dreaming. That really is Sailor Moon you're seeing right now," Susan's amused voice reached her from another bed.

"S...Susan! What the hell! You're here as well? ... Are you okay? Where is Aryanna? Why is Sailor Moon here? What is going on?" Hermione asked her second-best friend, realizing that Susan, too, was in the hospital wing.

Susan held up her hand. "Whoa, slow down girl!" she said attempting to quieten down the girl. Hermione was getting frantic. I'm okay, Mione. Aryanna is fine too, she's... er... also in the room," she said, pausing as Hermione rushed towards her for a hug.

"Easy there, Mione! Easy, please!" Susan cautioned, wincing as the welts of her sore backside from her earlier caning for attacking Snape, made themselves known once again. "I'm happy to see you, and I may be okay, but that doesn't mean I'm not sore." She winced again. Not having transformed like Aryanna had earlier, meant that she was still fully feeling the effects of her earlier punishment. 'I should take care of that ASAP,' she thought to herself. She would already have done so but, unfortunately, she knew she had to wait. People would start asking questions if a caned girl suddenly showed no effects from her caning... at least not without a believable excuse.

A cough from Dumbledore interrupted their moment. Hermione blushed, realizing there were more people in the room, and released Susan from her bear hug. "Sorry, I got a bit carried away there... I was happy to see my friend," she mumbled as she stepped away, blushing.

"No problem, Miss Granger. It always warms my old heart to see such a strong bond of friendship," Dumbledore said with a smile.

Remembering why she was there in the first place, Hermione faced Dumbledore directly. "You wanted to see me... sir?" she finally asked coming to attention.

Dumbledore, his eyes twinkling behind his half-moon spectacles, gestured towards Sailor Moon. "Not exactly. I may have summoned you, but it's the 'lady' here who wanted to see you," he replied, motioning towards Sailor Moon.

Hermione blinked in surprise as she redirected her focus to the renowned superhero. "Me?" she questioned, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Yes, you!" Aryanna confirmed firmly. Hermione blinked once, twice, then a third time, her thoughts racing. It didn't make any sense. Why her? Why would a Guardian like Sailor Moon, a globally celebrated superheroine, an icon and pivotal figure in the battle against the forces of evil, have any interest in her, a common school girl? Even if she had magic, she didn't think she was anything special. Well, not that special!

"Why me?" she asked, her confusion evident. "I mean, I'm honored, truly. But... what could a superhero like you possibly need from someone like me?"

"Miss Granger..." Aryanna began, her tone serious. "You underestimate yourself. Allow me to pose a crucial, potentially life-changing question." She paused deliberately, letting the weight of her words sink in. "What would you do if, let's say, tomorrow you woke up as a superhero?"

Hermione froze, completely caught off guard, her mind reeling at the unexpected inquiry. "What do you mean?" she responded after a brief moment. Was this some sort of test? She hadn't anticipated being interrogated by a superhero when she received the Headmaster's summons. It all felt surreal.

"Please, Miss Granger, all will be explained shortly, for now, please indulge me and answer the question," Aryanna urged firmly, doing her best to embody the unwavering determination of a true hero.

Hermione blinked but then shrugged. "Okay, why not? Let's see where this goes," she thought in bemusement as she settled her thoughts and considered the question. "I suppose I would do what any good person would. I would help those in need, fight for justice, and try to make the world a better place," she answered earnestly.

Aryanna nodded, seemingly satisfied with Hermione's response, and smiled. It was a standard answer to a fairly standard question. "Would you be able to keep your alternate self a secret from others?" she asked next, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Of course!" Hermione replied quickly, without hesitation. "There's no way I'd want just anybody to know who I was." She understood and respected the importance of secrecy, having encountered it in numerous fantasy stories where heroes concealed their identities with dire consequences.

"Even from your most trusted friends... and your parents?" Aryanna asked knowingly.

This time Hermione hesitated and didn't answer immediately. Would she truly be able to keep such a secret from those who cared about her and whom she loved the most? she wondered thinking of her parents and her friends; Aryanna, Susan, and Hannah, even Lily.

'Yes,' she decided. She could.

"If necessary... yes. It would be difficult and I'd hate it, for sure, especially since I hate keeping secrets from my friends, and I usually tell my parents everything. Well... nearly everything. But yes, I could... no... I mean, I would," she said seriously, nodding with conviction.

Aryanna looked at her with interest, a smirk appearing on her face. She would remember this and hold her to it in the future if Hermione ever got upset with her for not revealing her secret identity as Sailor Moon.

"What if one day they saw you sneak out at night to go on patrol, or if you were caught coming back after curfew, and they're about to punish you, and the only way to get out of it is to tell them? What if they said they were very disappointed in you if you didn't tell them?" Aryanna posed the scenario with a serious tone, her eyes probing Hermione's reaction.

Hermione frowned, feeling a sense of unease creeping over her. The questions were becoming uncomfortable and had ceased being fun. "Why are you asking me this?" she questioned wearily, wondering where this was going.

"Please answer the question, Miss Granger," Aryanna insisted, struggling to maintain her serious facade. It was difficult considering that this was Hermione, one of her best friends, she was asking the questions too.

Now feeling a hint of annoyance, Hermione replied, "I'd hate it, but yes, even then. I'd make up some sort of excuse, accept my punishment as a necessary and unfortunate part of the job, and keep it a secret."

"Really? Even if doing so would put them in danger, and there's a possibility they might die?" Aryanna's tone turned grave, causing Hermione to sense the sudden seriousness of the situation.

Hermione's unease deepened. "That's why I would do everything in my power to ensure that nobody ever finds out I'm a superhero. To keep them safe and prevent such a situation," she responded, her voice tinged with concern. The more she thought about it there more unsure she became.

Aryanna nodded in understanding. "Of course you would, as would anyone. But what if it wasn't possible... what if, let's say, you had to choose between their lives and someone else's... someone crucially important...or maybe even many lives? Could you sacrifice them, the few, so that others, the many, could live?" The weight of Aryanna's question hung heavy in the air, leaving Hermione momentarily speechless, her mind grappling with the gravity of the dilemma.

Hermione remained silent. She didn't know what to say. She hoped with all of her heart she would never have to choose. Never be faced with such a dreadful situation.

Aryanna sighed deeply, sensing the indecision in Hermione's eyes. "Yes, being a hero is not easy. Sometimes we have to make very difficult decisions. We all hope it will never come to this, but we have to be prepared for the day it might. One of my greatest worries is that I will one day be faced with an impossible choice. I always ask myself... would I be strong, wise enough...selfless enough to make the right choice when the time comes, even if it meant sacrificing that which you value the most," she said sadly, her gaze fixed on Hermione. "But this is exactly what you will have to confront as a superhero," she paused, her expression grave. "This is why it's so important that you have to be certain it's what you want... and this also makes what I have to ask you next all the more difficult."

Hermione furrowed her brow at the seriousness in Aryanna's tone. "Will have to face? What?" she wondered, feeling a surge of apprehension.

Aryanna allowed a moment of silence for her words to sink in before continuing.

"Why are you telling me this?" Hermione asked, her nerves tingling with alarm. 'What is she not telling me?' she wondered.

"Why do you think...have I asked you these questions, Hermione?" Aryanna began to ask, but she was interrupted by Setsuna before Hermione could answer.

"Sailor Moon, enough! Please stop messing with the poor girl, and ask her already, before you give her a heart attack," Setsuna called out, a smile on her face. She was all for letting Aryanna have some fun because it was rare indeed that any of them ever got a chance to do something like this...to reveal themselves - their alter ego - to a friend. But enough was enough.

Aryanna maintained her serious demeanor as she approached Hermione, standing directly beside her. "I'm asking you this because I have an offer for you... one which you unfortunately can't refuse," she said, locking eyes with Hermione. 'Because, unlike myself, you never had a choice. Unlike Susan, who was free to decline becoming Venus until her first transformation you won't have that free will to choose, because the choice was already made for you,' she thought sadly, once again reminded of Hermione's lack of choice in becoming Mercury due to what happened on the train.

Now, feeling scared, Hermione took a moment to respond but finally she did. "Oh, and what could that be?" she asked, her heartbeat quickening with anticipation.

Aryanna nodded, knowing this was the moment of truth. It was time to...

In one swift motion, her demeanor changed completely and she dropped down to one knee in front of Hermione, causing her eyes to widen and her mouth to fall open in shock. "WHAT THE HECK!" Hermione exclaimed loudly, taken completely off guard by the unexpected gesture.

"Hermione Jane Granger... my friend... my sweet darling angel of knowledge..." Aryanna's voice took on a tender tone as she spoke Hermione's full name. "Would you do me the extreme honor of standing by my side, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part?" Aryanna paused, struggling to maintain her stoic and solemn composure and not burst into laughter at Hermione's flabbergasted expression. After a moment, she continued, "And in the dear hope that you won't make me into a dearly departed for playing this prank on you... would you become my... Mercury?"

'What the Fuck!' Hermione could only gape in speechlessness and bewilderment, her mouth open gaping like a fish out of water, as she sat on the bed, staring at Aryanna, who had assumed a classical proposing stance in front of her.

"What?" Hermione finally managed to utter, her mind unable to process the near ludicrous situation unfolding before her.

The sight was too much for Susan, who had been fighting back laughter. Unable to contain it any longer, both girls, Aryanna and herself, burst into fits of giggles.

Deciding to take pity on Hermione, Setsuna stepped forward to clarify. "Hermione... what she's trying to say is that she wants you to join her and become a hero, like herself. She wants you to become Sailor Mercury," she explained with a sigh.

Hermione stared at Setsuna, her mind racing with disbelief. This was not what she had anticipated when she received the summoning from the Headmaster. She had expected questions about the Potions incident, not an invitation to join the ranks of elite superheroes. It all felt so unreal, bordering on ludicrous. No, it WAS ludicrous!

If Dumbledore hadn't been present, she might have thought it was an elaborate prank. Yet, here she was, faced with the incredulous proposal from Sailor Moon herself. It was overwhelming, to say the least.

"W..what?" Hermione repeated. Her brain was nearly blank, struggling to process the unexpected turn of events. The repetition was all she could manage to stutter in her current state of shock. It felt as if...

It was as if...

Suddenly, a frown creased Hermione's brow as a realization dawned upon her.

"Aryanna Jasmine Potter, is that you?" Hermione's tone turned accusatory as she glared at the figure of Sailor Moon. "This is not funny. For a second, I thought Sailor Moon had truly come to Hogwarts and was asking me questions. How could you? Is this revenge for me joining the Guardians club?" she demanded, her frustration evident.

Turning her gaze towards Dumbledore, whose eyes twinkled with amusement, she continued, "And how did you manage to convince the Headmaster to go along with it?" Her best friend was now on the receiving end of her glare.

Susan and Aryanna couldn't contain themselves and broke out into even more laughter. This time even Setsuna couldn't help but smile, and Poppy giggled along. It seemed it was true. The best pranks were those which were ultimately true.

Dumbledore, always the good sport that he was, seizing the opportunity for a bit of fun, decided to join in. "Alas, Miss Granger, I'm afraid you have not been deceived; this truly is Guardian Moon," he replied with mock seriousness.

"And you truly were just offered to become Sailor Mercury," Setsuna chimed in.

"All you have to do is say...I do," Susan added merrily, tears of laughter in her eyes.

Hermione stared at them incredulously, feeling the last vestiges of realism slipping away as she realized that - as crazy and unlikely as it seemed - this was real and happening.

Aryanna extended her hand towards Hermione. "Allow me to fully reintroduce myself... I'm Sailor Moon, Heiress of the Primordial and Royal House D'Luna, Princess of the Imperial Silver Throne, Guardian of Love and Justice, Her Royal Highness Princess Serenity of the Moon Kingdom, Future Queen of the Silver Millennium, ruler of the known galaxy... although to my friends, I also go by the name Aryanna Potter... and yes, before you ask, as my Dog-father would say... I'm serious, very serious..." Aryanna's tone was solemn as she spoke, no longer tinged with laughter. "You, Hermione, have been chosen to become Sailor Mercury, one of my loyal Guardians. Cosmic warriors who are tasked to protect the galaxy from evil. Have been actually since the train ride... since our vow," she explained once she regained control of her composure.

Hermione's eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Aryanna, who now held out her hand in a friendly gesture. She felt faint, dizzy, scared, and above all overwhelmed. The room seemed to blur around her. Her thoughts raced. Suddenly she wobbled unsteadily. The moment was too much for her. She knew she would collapse any moment now.

Sensing Hermione's imminent collapse, Aryanna's smile disappeared and she promptly rushed forward to assist her, guiding her to lie down gently on the bed. "Easy there, Hermione. Take it easy! I know it's a lot to take in. Take as much time as you need," Aryanna said, her voice kind and devoid of laughter.

'This had to be some kind of elaborate prank, right?' Hermione wondered desperately. There was no way her best friend could be Sailor Moon. It was absurd, impossible. Right?

And yet...

As Aryanna extended her hand to Hermione, she slowly reached out and hesitantly took it. Half-expecting someone to jump out and yell, "Gotcha!" she was surprised when Sailor Moon remained, her handshake real, firm, and warm.

'Oh my God... it was real. She wasn't dreaming! Her friend was Sailor Moon!'

"So, what do you say, Hermione? Will you join me by my side, as Sailor Mercury?" Aryanna asked again, looking at her friend, a mixture of worry and hope.

Hermione felt a whirlwind of emotions – disbelief, excitement, confusion, and a hint of irritation. She wasn't sure whether to laugh or demand an explanation. Even now she was still in denial. "This has to be a joke. There's no way you're Sailor Moon, and there's no way I'm becoming a superhero," she declared, crossing her arms over her chest.

Aryanna chuckled. "I assure you, it's no joke. We, Susan, Setsuna, and I... and you... we are all Sailor Guardians. You have been for the last few days and like us you will fight to protect the world from the dark forces known as Youma. And while the choice was never truly yours to make... I'm now formally extending an invitation for you to join our team of intergalactic team fighting evil! as Sailor Mercury."

Susan, still grinning, added, "And the best part is, there was never an admission exam. How cool is that?" she said, trying to lighten the moment. Setsuna rolled her eyes but smiled good-naturedly. "Indeed!"

Hermione sighed, feeling a mixture of frustration and amusement. "This is absurd. I am only a child. In school! I have responsibilities as a student, exams to prepare for, and a life to lead. I can't just become a superhero." she told herself.

'And yet... if what Sailor Moon...Aryanna - damn that was shocking - said was true...then she already was... Mercury was it?...for the last few days.'

Aryanna's expression softened. "I understand your concerns, Hermione. It's a lot to take in. But being a Sailor Guardian doesn't mean abandoning your responsibilities. It's about embracing a greater responsibility – the responsibility to protect others. You can still be a student, a friend, and a hero... only in a different way. And you will not be alone. You will have us."

Dumbledore, who had been silently observing, finally spoke. "Miss Granger, life often presents us with unexpected opportunities and challenges. This is one of them. Embracing the unknown can lead to remarkable experiences. While the choice is ultimately yours, I encourage you to consider this offer seriously. The world could use more heroes... especially now," he said, thinking of the increasing Youma attacks. He knew they needed the Guardians now more than ever, despite his reluctance and severe dislike to send children into such dangerous battles.

As much as he hated to admit it... they needed the Guardians.

Hermione glanced around the room at the expectant faces of her friends and the genuine conviction in Aryanna's eyes. It was a lot to process, and her logical mind struggled with the fantastical nature of the proposition. 'Am I ready for this?' she wondered, anxiety rising by the second. It was so overwhelming, too much, too soon... She felt she needed time to think. And yet, if what she was told was true...did she have that time?

"I... I think... I need time to think about this. It's not something I can decide upon on a whim," Hermione stated, her tone uncertain. 'What time...you are already this Mercury... if what Aryanna told you then you already are this Sailor Mercury...whether you like it or not! her inner consciousness reminded herself. This was so unfair. She never had a choice. 'Do you need one?' she asked herself.

Aryanna sighed but nodded, understanding her friend's dilemma. "Of course, Hermione. Take all the time you need. I know this was all just dumped on you just now. We will be here for you whenever you're ready." She felt disappointed but if Hermione needed time, then she would give her that time. She could see that the moment was overwhelming Hermione at present. It was best to wait and allow Hermione to make her decision in her own time. Aryanna knew she owed her friend that much. Until Hermione was ready, Aryanna resolved to be there to assist her in any way possible. She would continue to support Hermione in every way possible until then.

"Until then, feel free to ask any questions you may have. Once you are ready, come to me, Susan, or Setsuna, and we'll help you in any way we can," she echoed her thoughts.

Hermione smiled gratefully at Aryanna. "Thanks, Arya. It's not that I don't want to do this...I will...probably... it's just..."

"You aren't ready yet. Say no more, I understand," Aryanna interjected. She knew better than anybody that this was a huge commitment, one she had no desire to rush her friend into making. If she was to make it, she wanted Hermione to be sure about it. If that took a day, a week... a year...more...even a lifetime, then so be it. She would wait.

"Thanks, Arya," Hermione said, feeling a sense of relief as if a huge burden had just been lifted from her shoulders...even if only temporarily. She now had a lot to contemplate.

"As I said, should you have any questions or concerns, Hermione, feel free to approach either me, Susan, or Setsuna at any time. You are one of us, always have been. And we always take care of our own," Aryanna reassured her.

As the tension in the room eased, Poppy Pomfrey injected some humor into the situation. "Well, it seems the hospital wing is witnessing quite an unusual event today. Superhero recruitment, of all things!"

This prompted laughter from everyone present, though Hermione's was a bit weak. Nonetheless, amidst the humor, she already began to feel a lot better.

Oh yes, she had a lot to think about. Hermione thought to herself.

One thing, however, was certain: after today, Hermione knew, her life would never be the same again.
