"Zendikar's true gods have risen. Whether in reverence or agony, all the world will kneel." - Ayli, high priest of the Eternal Pilgrims
Day 20
After so long, I finally have a place I can call home. A tall tower surrounded by a garden most magnificent, neighbor to Beacon itself.
I built it myself. The Academy provided just the mana I needed for it, since it welcomes people of all ways of life, color identity proved to be a non-issue here. An added benefit was that it is also very close to my job's location.
Beacon Academy has officially recognized my research on Dust Formation alongside my Crystal theory. Many thinkers lack the necessary means of observing mana as it is, but every single one has reached the same conclusion that there is a force, beyond man's grasp, that acts upon the material world in different ways, one of those ways is the creation of Dust.
Unfortunately, my research on Dust has entered a hiatus for the time being as I have to fulfill the task given to me by Headmaster Ozpin. His curiosity extends to me as well, when the question is the reason why humans can no longer access Mana.
In search of that answer, my inquisitions led me to the library of Beacon Academy. A place designed for study is now reduced to a hook-up spot for young adults following the will of their overflowing hormones.
Truly disgraceful, but also expected.
As shameful as it is, the library has proven to be still functional and still served its intended functions. Study.
The history of Remnant is... Cloudy.
There are not many factual history books, mostly fairy tales and children's stories. The history of the Great War, and the rest of history before that, are effectively put together by hearsay put into books. Views and facts contradict one another with every iteration of the story, varying from author to author. Even Doctor Oobleck agrees it's a mess.
Still, every fairy tale has some vague roots in reality, so I decided to start from there.
Two tales stood out from amongst the bunch that are at least vaguely related to mankind and magic. The Tale of the Four Maidens, and The Brothers.
The Tale of the Four Maidens depicts four young women doing good deeds for a lonesome old man living in an abandoned house. As recompense, these young maidens were given unimaginable power, so they could better spread their good deeds across the world, each representing a season; Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
The idea here is that the 'old man' gave them access to magic. It is not impossible for a mage to awaken the magical capabilities in someone but is unheard of for a mage to do it for the sake of doing a good deed. There is something there, but Ozpin assures me we have no information about the Maidens.
Pitiful. They could prove to be useful.
Then, we have the tale of The Brothers, which tells the story of Two Brothers, Light and Dark. Light had the power to create, and with it, he created all manner of animals, plants, and whatever else. Dark had the power to destroy, and thus he destroyed everything his brother created on the following night with his creatures of darkness, the Grimm.
Eventually, the two grew tired of competing, and so they decided to create something that had the power to both create and destroy. That something had the power to choose between the two or to do something else entirely, given the proper knowledge. Mankind.
The story goes that after mankind tried to usurp the throne of the gods, they were punished and stripped of their gifts by the gods, and thus the Brothers left them forever.
This story in particular intrigues me, for the gift of the gods was supposed to be knowledge, choice, creation, and destruction, no? If they stripped men of their gifts, then why is it that mankind can still do all of those things? I discussed it with Oobleck, and our strongest theory is that the Gods took mankind's ability to use mana.
A few issues arose from that theory, because Faunus can't use mana either. Were they also punished? We don't know, because the story never mentions any Faunus. This fact also serves as a pillar of the thought of Human superiority over Faunus, since it is Mankind who is designed in the image of the gods.
In my humble opinion, I don't think these Brothers were gods, for I already have a strong faith in Ra. I honestly believe that these Brothers were powerful planeswalkers, who created this plane and gave it life in the midst of the Blind Eternities before The Mending, who decided to leave afterward.
Headmaster Ozpin tells me that they really are Gods, despite comprehending my logic. It amazes me, his daring attitude.
This theory could explain the fact that this Plane is completely disconnected from the rest of the multiverse, why they could rip the connection between the humans here and the mana, and also why this plane is so damn hard to enter.
Speaking of which, the barrier. It's damaged.
I have explained the situation to the Headmaster, and I have also done some maintenance on it since it was damaged because of my arrival here, however, I can only do so much.
There are caves in the frozen wasteland on the outskirts of Atlas that Headmaster Ozpin asked me to check out. After inquiring why, he has shown me a picture that has shaken me to my very core.
Odd formations in the underground ice and rock, colorful yet not at all related to Dust.
He informed me that the cave was a Dust mine, now completely emptied due to the sudden shift in the cave's structure and the disappearance of a team of ten miners. I was also informed that this occurred overnight last night. Before I realized the state of the barrier, and before I repaired it to the best of my ability.
I told him I had a hunch, but nothing confirmed. He insisted that I must go since he'd never seen something so alien, and also because the engineers of Atlas were horrified to investigate on their own, considering no one had ever seen such a sudden shift in the ice formations.
I was assigned a team, and we will leave tomorrow. Team CVFY. I fear for the worst.
I've come here to Remnant to find something that can stop them... But if those bismuth-like walls are what I hope they aren't... Then I've seen them before.
In my home Plane.
In Zendikar.
A/N: The plot thickens.
