Amy was never one for relationships, be them romantic or platonic. But mara always had a way of getting around her rules. Amy hated being touched, but mara always found a way to wrap an arm around her shoulders or put a hand on her arm. Amy hated being laughed at, but mara could aways seem to make jokes at her expense. The Maddens could never figure out how the girl got away with it, not until they learned what her power was.

Psychic suggestion.

She could implant an idea into someone's head and make them think it was their idea and that they wanted to do it.

Unfortunately, that someone was usually Amy.

"Come on Havoc, you know you want to go on a heist with me." Mara wined, her eyes subtly glowing a bright blue color as she looked into Amy's eyes, the sonic powered girls Eyes mirroring the glow, showing Mara's power was working.

"Umm, ya sure. I'll go on a heist with you." Amy replied, sounding a bit unsure.

Jake looked on as the two left the layer for whatever half-baked plan Mara had cooked up for them this week. He swore Mara only made Amy go with her all the time was because she couldn't think through a real plan and needed a powerhouse like Havoc to get her out of trouble. It broke Jake's heart to see someone do that to his sister, but he knew from many many failed attempts to stop her that Amy would just dig in her heels and go anyway, then likely avoid him afterwards. Whether out of embarrassment or something else Jake didn't know, but the end result was the same. Amy pushing him away and leaving her even more vulnerable to Mara.

So, Jake just waited for them in the lair, working through his thoughts with his weight set. It was a couple hours before the two girls returned, arms full of jewelry, laughing.

"Ah, did you see the look on that cashier's face when your scream shattered all the glass protecting these diamond rings? Priceless." Jake just shook his head, he had no idea how the two girls planned to turn those diamond rings into cash as they couldn't pawn them due to the high publicity of their robbery. He was just happy they avoided fighting any superheroes this time.

"Anyway, havoc, lets go back to your room and admire these pretty diamonds." Jake felt a horrible chill go down his spine. He hated the idea of Amy alone with Mara. A heist was one thing, her room with the door closed was another.

"Or you could examine them out here. The light is better you know." Jake jumped in the way of the two girls, eyeing his sister and Mara cautiously.

"Ya, but the company isn't great. Havoc, let's go." Mara snapped her fingers at Amy causing jakes blood to boil. His sister was not a dog.

"No mara. I think you've overstayed your welcome. Leave now." Jake growled out the last two words in what he liked to call his "Chaos voice". The one that made even the most experienced of superheroes think twice before fighting him.

"Please. You don't want me-" Jake clamped a hand over Mara's mouth before she could finish. She might get away with controlling Amy, but Jake wouldn't stand for it.

"No. get out!" Jake shoved Mara back, causing her to stumble.

"Jake!" Amy snapped out, catching her friend and glaring at him.

"Jake is right havoc. It is time for Mara to leave." Eva appeared from the staircase that let people in and out of the lair. "We need to have a family meeting."

Amy didn't want mara to go, but her mother offered her little choice, so she watched with sad eyes as her secret girlfriend left. Once the girl was out of sight Amy punched Jake. "Why would you do that?!" Jakes' eyes widened and he held his hands up in surrender.

"Oh, I'm sorry I didn't approve of Mara controlling you some more." Jake backed off.

"What?" Amy was confused. Mara hadn't been controlling her. Was she? They had talked about that. Amy hated being controlled outside of her and Mara's 'practice'. Even then she wasn't too fond of it, but she put up with it to make her girlfriend happy.

"The heist? She suggested it to you using her powers. Come on havoc, you wouldn't have gone otherwise. Think about it." Jake made a good point. Mara's plan wasn't well thought out and now she was stuck with a bunch of jewelry and no way to pawn it. Damnit. Mara had controlled her. Amy was pissed. Mara was going to pay for that.

The realization must have shown on her face because Jake snickered before moving away after she shot him a glare. Asshole.

"Ah, so family meeting?" Amy asked Eva, trying to change the subject.

"Oh, we aren't having one. I just wanted her to leave." Eva laughed as Amy gaped in disbelief. Her mother really hated Mara that much?

"Good one mom." Jake called from his place back at his weight set.

"Oh, come on. Mara isn't that bad." Amy's defense of her girlfriend fell on deaf ears as her mother and brother walked away. She would just have to prove it.

***********Valley View************

Amy didn't know what to make of Hartley. She was just always so cheery and so optimistic. She was also the first-person Amy got close to after Mara (other than her family of course). And Amy couldn't help comparing the two. Hartley never pushed when Amy said no when Mara would pout or worse yet, use her powers to make Amy comply. But Hartley never pushed, not unless it was something important.

The sonic powered girl suppressed a shiver. Thinking about how easily Mara controlled her back when they were dating always made her feel terrible.

"What's wrong?" Hartley asked, pulling Amy from her thoughts. She must have had a look on her face.

"Nothing. Just thinking." Amy replied, trying not to snap. It wasn't Hartley's fault she made pour choices in her life.

"Oh, does that mean we are in trouble?" Hartley smiled wide at her joke, causing Amy to huff out a small laugh and roll her eyes.

The two continued to walk in silence when Amy felt the back of her neck prickle. She instantly turned around, fighting stance at the ready, only to have the air knocked out of her lungs at the sight of Mara.

"Fancy seeing you here. Amy." Mara said, clearly pleased with herself.

"Ah, Amy? Who is this?" Hartley asked drawing the attention of both girls.

"Hartley. Go home." Amy kept her eyes locked on Mara, her smug expression making her angry. How dare she have the nerve to show in in her new life.

"But-"

"Now Hartley!" Amy snapped, letting the villain rage fill her veins again. It felt like greeting an old friend. She waited until she heard Hartley's footsteps retreating a respectable distance before speaking to Mara. "What do you want?"

"Isn't it obvious? I want you to return to Centropolis and to your villain life. To me." Mara spoke with conviction but her face softened at the last couple of words.

Amy just snorted. "And go back to being your puppet? No thanks." Amy sucked in a breath, ready to scream when Mara's eyes started glowing in a very familiar way.

"You want to come home." Amy felt the command fill her body and brain. She wanted to go home. But what was home? The lair in Centropolis was where she grew up, where she first got her powers, committed her first crime. But Vally View was where she lived now. Her family was here. Hartley was here.

Amy turned on her heels and started to walk towards her house. "No! Stop!" Amy's feet stopped of their own accord, freezing her to the sidewalk. "What are you doing?!" mara demanded.

"Going home." Amy replied without thinking, staring Mara in the eye. She didn't miss the rage that flashed across Mara's face, but it was gone too quickly to comment on.

"No, that's not what I meant! I mean…" her eyes started glowing again. "You want to go back to centropolis. With me." Amy once again felt the command fill her brain and body. She wanted to go back to centropolis. She wanted it with everything she had in her. But then why was her mind screaming at her not to? she belonged in centropolis after all. But she didn't want to leave. But she wanted to go back. But it was wrong. But it wasn't.

Amy watched mara's face go from smug to shocked. She wasn't moving. She wasn't moving! Mara had given her an order and she wasn't moving! "N-no" Amy forced the word passed her lips with such effort, yet it still came out as just a whisper.

"What?!" Mara sounded enraged and Amy flinched despite herself. "Get on the transport!" Amy fought the command with every fiber of her being, but her energy was being drained. She felt her will slowly dissolving and her feet turned to the transport and started to walk towards it. She wanted to be on that transport.

"Amy!" a voice sounded from really far away, but Amy couldn't make out who it was over her panting breath. She was so tired of fighting. She was just a few feet from the transport. "Amy!" whoever it was was closer now. Amy tried to look but she couldn't peel her eyes away from the transport.

One foot in the transport. The second foot was following when Amy was suddenly thrown back, flying away from the vehicle. She landed hard on the ground, exhausted.

"No! you ruin everything! Get out of here!" Mara Yelled.

"Can't hear you!" Her head starting to clear, Amy could tell it was jakes voice. She had never been so happy to hear her brother's voice, so much so that she almost relaxed when someone scooped her up off the ground and took off running.

"J-Jake?" Amy whispered, lifting her head to see her brother. He was wearing Vic's earmuffs. The soundproof ones. He was a genius! If he could hear Mara's commands, he couldn't follow them! Jake ran the both of them a mile and a half home and by the time they got there Amy was fighting to be let down to stand on her own.

"I'm fine. I'm not gonna take off. Just let me down." She finally showed away from him once they made it into the Madden's front yard. "The command wore off, she's too far away."

Jake finally removed the earmuffs. "Are you okay?"

"Of course I'm okay it was just Mara." Amy snapped, still shaking a little on her feet. Maybe she was a little less fine than she thought.

"Just Mara?! Amy you almost got in a transport back to centropolis! Plus, now Mara knows our identities! She could tell Onyx!" Jake yelled back.

"No, she won't. She doesn't serve under Onyx remember?" Amy used her best condescending tone and went into the house only to be slammed into by Hartley.

"Amy!" Hartley called hugging a very reluctant Amy. "I didn't know what to do so I went and got your brother and told him some villain must have showed up because you told me to run and your dad overheard and gave him some tech to fight someone named Mara and I really hope that was her. I mean I hope it wasn't her because your mom said she has Psychic powers to control people and I don't want you to be controlled again- I mean for the first time because you family totally didn't tell me about other times she controlled you and-"

"Hartley!" Amy finally cut off Hartley's rant when the girl stopped for a breath. "What do you mean my family told you about Mara?" Amy glared at her father through the kitchen window causing him and her mother both to retreat down to the lair.

"What? I said they didn't… tell… me…" Hartley trailed off when Amy's glare was turned on her. "Ok fine they told me. But just because I was freaking out. You really scared me, Amy!" Amy felt her glare soften as her best friend expressed her worry.

"Ya you should be scared. Mara is a real villain. She's dangerous." Amy rolled her eyes at her brother's antics. She would have been fine. And she even said as such.

"Fine? Fine?! Amy, you had one foot in the transport! She was controlling you! Again! And you let her! Again!"

"Umm, what does that mean, 'you let her'?" Hartley asked and Amy felt her face heat up in shame and embarrassment.

"Nothing!" she glared at jake, daring him to say something else. Unfortunately, her brother was always one to rise to a challenge.

"Mara and Amy used to hang out all the time in Centropolis, and it usually ended in Mara commanding Amy to do something and committing stupid crimes. I can't believe you two never got caught." Jake snickered at Amy's betrayed face. "I'm just glad nothing seriously bad happened." Jake locked eyes with Hartley in a weirdly intense way.

"Okay… seriously Jake I would have been fine. I was fighting her orders and everything." Amy turned to walk away when Vic popped back out of the lair, clearly snooping.

"Wait! You managed to fight her orders? You were never able to do that in Centropolis! Do you think you built up some kind of tolerance? Can I test for it?" Vic was practically salivating at the thoughts of running tests, making Amy a little nervous.

"umm, no?" Amy said only for Vic to scream "Yes!" and drag her down to the lair, Amy looking to Jake for help and receiving none. He only shot her a teasing look right before she disappeared into the lair.

"Okay what was that about?" Hartley asked Jake.

"What was what?" Jake questioned.

"That whole 'I'm glad nothing worse happened'" Hartley didn't think it could get much worse than being mind controlled.

"Umm, Hartley, Mara is a lesbian." Hartley just staired back blankly, not knowing what that had to do with that information. "And a villain." Hartley blinked, still confused. "And Amy is a girl." Oh? OOOOOOOOOHHH.

"OOOOOOOOOHHH. Wait you don't mean-"

"Shhhhhh. Amy can't know. It never happened and she never picked up on Mara trying. If she knew she would be horrified." Jake whisper yelled, dragging Hartley away from the kitchen and any prying ears.

"Jake, she needs to know. Especially now that Mara is back and trying to take her. I can't keep this from her."

Amy heard everything. She had escaped her father under the guise of grabbing a snack and overheard Jake and Heartly. But now she wanted to throw up. Mara tried to- nope shut down that thought. And Jake hid it from her. But now that she looked back, Jake was always the one protesting against her being alone with Mara, always insisting they stay in the common area of the lair where he or Eva usually was. They… saved her. even when they were still villains.

"Hartley you can't tell her! She will want to take revenge of Mara and that could lead to her getting controlled again." But Amy didn't want revenge on Mara. She just wanted to stay as far away from her as possible.

"But I-I can't let her walk around not knowing. This is serious Jake. I'm going to tell her. I have to." Amy was touched that Hartley would have told her, but this had gone on long enough.

"Don't worry about it. I heard everything." Jake and Hartley turned to her, shock and horror written all over their faces. "I'll stay away from Mara." Shame swirled in Amy's stomach, and she looked down at her feet.

"I'm so sorry Amy." Hartley approached looking ready to hug Amy, but the former villain just stepped back out of the hug, not ready for any contact yet. And Hartley, just like the wonderful person she is, dropped her arms and backed off, not giving the hug she desperately wanted to give.

"Amy, I-"

"Save it Jake. I get it. I missed all the signs. I should have realized. God it was so obvious." Amy let out a humorless laugh, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"No Amy. It isn't your fault." Hartley spoke with such conviction that Amy almost believed her, but she smiled at her best friend anyway.

"I'll stay away from Mara. I'm sorry I always gave you so much trouble about her, jake." Jake just nodded at her apology, accepting it without making her feel even worse.

"Amy! I'm ready for those tests! Where did you go?" Vic called up from the lair.

"I better go down and let dad figure out if I have some resistance to her powers." Amy said reluctantly. "This is probably gonna hurt."
