Burning in the Skies

It's been a few days since Naruto has had Ruby around to home school him, and for the most part, he was a good student, while Ruby was a good teacher.
However, that doesn't mean they still don't act their age, as evident by the fact that time slipped past them as they were playing Resident Evil 5 for the past hour.
"Come on Naruto, how the hell do you manage to beat the game the first time around" asked Ruby, "I had my best friend to help me" said Naruto as they were on the last level, and they've died 5 times now, do to Naruto failing the QTE when it came to punching the boulder.
"God damn it, step up cause Wesker is approaching" said Ruby as she tried stopping the final boss, but it was for not as she died again.
"Damn, so close" jeered Naruto, "Yeah" said Ruby as she pulled out the phone and realized how late it was.
"Oh crap, we're an hour late from getting back to your studies" said Ruby as she put the controller down.
"Sigh, it was fun while it still lasted" said Naruto as he powered down the Xbox and followed Ruby back to the kitchen table.
"Ok, lets pick up where we left off in studying the Cold War" said Ruby, "I still find this hard to believe this actually happened" said Naruto as he lifted his text book.
"I know what you mean, you hear only the Vietnam War, but nothing about it being part of the larger Cold War till your last year in middle school" said Ruby as she recalled being smacked with reality when she had to brush this off for her GED.
"Just glad to not have to deal being born in that time" said Naruto as he followed along with Ruby's lessons for the next hour and half before she had to call it a day.
"Phew, we still managed to finish your lesson in record time" said Ruby as she checked her phone.
"Promise not to mention how we slacked off for an hour to your mom" said Ruby, "I promise" said Naruto as Ruby began to pack her belongings.
"Hey Ruby, before you go, I was just wondering if you're busy right now" asked Naruto, "Not really, but I'm not interested in going out on a date" said Ruby.
"I wasn't going to ask you out on a date, I was going to ask if you wanted to hang out, as friends" stressed Naruto as Ruby pondered it for a moment.
"I mean, I've got no issue, the question remains, does your mom even let your out" asked Ruby, "I mean I've done all my school work for the day, so there should be no problem" said Naruto as Ruby gave it some thought.
"Yeah, I'm down to hang out for a bit" said Ruby, "Sweet, let me just grab my wallet" said Naruto as he rushed to his room and grabbed his things before following Ruby outside.
He lived in a relative nice neighborhood, with the only nuisance, according to his mom, that one kid who likes to spend the evenings and weekends racing up and down the street on his minibike.
"All right Naruto, what do you have planned today" asked Ruby, "I was thinking we go to 7-11 and then to the park" said Naruto.
"Sounds good" said Ruby as the 2 teens got their fill of Jolly Ranchers and SoBe before heading to the park and chilling in the picnic area.
"Ok, so what was the most stupidest thing you've ever done in school" asked Naruto, "I used a cutout of one of my dad's girly magazines for a school project, wanting to flex the gun, more than the girl" said Ruby as she got a snorted laugh from Naruto.
"What about you" asked Ruby, "Besides my expulsion, I would have to say it be the time I tripped and ate shit in front of a girl I like" said Naruto as he got a snicker from Ruby.
"Sorry, I don't mean to laugh" said Ruby, "Sigh, it's cool, honestly she kinda turned into a bigger bitch than my friends" said Naruto.
"You're friends, you always mention them, but you never told me a single thing about them, so mind telling me who they are" asked Ruby as Naruto began to frown a little.
Getting up from the picnic bench he began to gather up some wood and place it on the barbecue grill.
"My best friend, the one whom I ousted as a brony, his name was Sasuke, and the guy had everything from talent, to good looks, and much wealthier family, but the guy always felt insecure since his dad always favored his big brother better" said Naruto as he stacked the sticks.
"My other friend Gaara, he's a total momma's boy, and is socially awkward, but I took the chance and befriended the guy, and he decides to ignore me and follows Sasuke lead in being an emo loner" continued Naruto.
"Then there was Shikamaru, and his friend Choji, you couldn't see one without the other, my beef with Shikamaru was to let things go and never bug him, while his friend stuffed his face and acted as a living wall of fat" said Naruto as he began to pull a lighter from his pocket and started to burn the sticks he gathered.
"…It's funny, I don't know why, but I just feel that maybe, just maybe I was in the wrong about everything I did, which I don't think I was… I don't know it's just so confusing" admitted Naruto as soon the wood started to smoke up and surround them as Naruto looked aimlessly into the fire, making his mind and body go numb.
Feeling the comforting hand of Ruby, Naruto saw the girl made a conflicted face as she tried to say something, but before she could, she decided to take the boy out the park as they ran for a good block before swimming through some houses.
"Ruby, what gives" asked Naruto, "There was literally a cop car pulling over and he looked like he was going to bust us" said Ruby before they made it back to the main street where they caught their breath.
"Naruto, I need you to listen to me, I know what it feels like when you felt like you're guilty for all the bridges you've burned, but honestly from the sounds of it, you don't have to apologize" said Ruby.
"That feeling of regret, isn't even real, because you lost what you don't deserve, bad friends, and trust when I say they're not worth keeping around or thinking about, so forget about them, and be thankful you've finally made a real friend for once" said Ruby with a smile.
Smiling back at Ruby, Naruto considered the merit to her words and thought that maybe she was right.
"You're right, I'm not going to apologize to anyone, even if it means my mom is going to kill" said Naruto, "Good for you, all though, promise me that if you're mom asks you why you shouldn't apologize, please don't mention me all right" said Ruby.
"You're my friend, and I'd never betray my friends" said Naruto with a smile as Ruby smiled back, satisfied that she can be a teacher, both in and out of this home schooled trouble maker.
"You want to go back to my place and hide their in case the cops continue to find us" offered Naruto, "Nah, I'm good, I'm going to head back home and help make dinner for me and my uncle, I'll see you tomorrow Naruto" said Ruby.
"See ya" said Naruto as he saw Ruby off to her bus stop as he walked all the way back to his apartment, and just chilled till it was time for his mom to get back.
"I'm home" said a tired Kushina, "Hey mom, how was a work" asked Naruto.
"Tiring, sorry but can you do mommy a favor and make dinner tonight" said Kushina as she began to take her shoes off.
"Do you want instant noodles or frozen burritos" asked Naruto, "Instant noodles please. Pork flavored" said Kushina as she finally sat down on the couch.
"How was your teacher today Naruto, I hope you're not causing her any trouble" said Kushina, "She's great, honestly I like her, and I wouldn't want to cause her any trouble" lied Naruto as he did almost get Ruby indirectly in trouble with the law, but that was their little secret.
Ok, people, a little shorter than usual, but no worries, more chapters are definitely in order, and I plan to deliver them either on a weekly if not with a 10 day window apart from each other.
Before I sign off, I just want to say something that actually brings a smile to my face, and that's knowing how not only these fictional characters that we admired, but this band that's not only inspired, but helped me narrate and cope through life when I was at my most lowest has been influencing and even acquiring new followers, no matter how old, or more surprising, how young they are, but then, emotions, music, and heart discriminates against no one as it builds us up to be a better person.
