The Requiem

The morning had finally shined as Naruto dragged himself from out of bed as he began to listen to music on his iPod for a good half hour before finally leaving his bedroom.
"Morning mom" greeted Naruto, "Morning Naruto, listen I need you to do me a favor, and take this, and hand it to Ruby" said Kushina as she handed her son a signed check.
"You can give it to her either before or after she's done home schooling you" said Kushina as she was getting her shoes on.
"You can count on me mom" said Naruto, "Thank you, I'll be home a little late today, so I'll be picking up some pizza on my way back" said Kushina as she began to head towards the front door.
"Have a good day mom" said Naruto, "You too son, love you" said Kushina as she finally departed for work.
Alone at last, Naruto walked his way into the kitchen and poured himself a bowl of sugary filled cereal, and just out of impulse, topped his cereal with whip cream, before pouring in the milk.
Enjoying the sugar high he was receiving, Naruto walked his way over to the living room and powered on the tv to watch for a good half hour before he heard someone ringing his doorbell.
"Morning Ruby" greeted Naruto as he let his home tutor in, "Morning Naruto, ready to get class over with and start the weekend.
"Sure thing, and before I forget, here you go" said Naruto as he handed Ruby her paycheck, "Sweet, all right, let's get started so I can finally start my weekend" said Ruby.
"I take it you got some big plans this weekend" asked Naruto, "Yeah, my sister will be coming in town this afternoon, and we're going to spend the whole weekend together" said Ruby.
"I didn't know you had a sister" said Naruto, "Technically she's my half-sister, but regardless she's the coolest big sis in the world" said Ruby.
"Really, I'd like to meet her" said Naruto, "Forget it lover boy, you're not her type" said Ruby.
"I wasn't thinking about asking her out, but hey good to know" said Naruto as he began crack open a text book as they went about his home school lessons.
The Next Day
It was Saturday, and Naruto was pretty much free to do whatever he wanted now without being weighed down by school.
As such, he decided to throw his mom a bone and let her sleep in for the day as he decided to walk to the park and kill time thinking he'd be at peace to enjoy this warm winter day.
"Well-well-well, if it ain't Naruto" called a familiar voice, causing the blonde to whip his head around and saw a face he hasn't seen in a long time.
Standing before him wearing a black turtleneck sweater, and black jeans, with his hair slicked back like a ducks ass was none other than Sasuke Uchiha, and with him was his entourage of cool kids.
"Sasuke!?" exclaimed Naruto, "It's been a while since you've been kicked out of school, it's a shame they didn't chase you out of town" said Sasuke as Naruto began to frown at his statement.
"Yeah, well to bad, but Redwood City is also my home town you emo piece of crap" said Naruto as that comment struck a nerve with Sasuke.
"I'm not emo! And I'm not a gay fucking brony!" yelled Sasuke, "Not what I heard" said Naruto with a shit eating grin.
Needless to say a fight ensued where 5 kids beat on Naruto, leaving him bruised and cut for a minute, before a passing adult decided to intervene and scared the delinquents off.
While Naruto was thankful, he declined any help from the passerby and walked himself out towards the nearest drugstore, which was in a shopping center connected to the Caltrain.
Using his money to buy some bandages and alcohol, Naruto hissed in pain trying to apply the substance as he dropped the bottle and spilled half it's contents.
"Damn, that hurts more than the punch I received!" exclaimed Naruto as he jumped around for a minute, unaware a friendly face was behind him.
"Need some help" called Ruby as she got Naruto to stop doing his silly little dance.
"Ruby, hey what's up" greeted Naruto, "I should be asking you that, you look like you got into a fight" said Ruby.
"I did get into a fight, I happened to ran into Sasuke and he beat me up near the park" said Naruto, "Really, that must really suck" said Ruby sympathetically.
"Yeah, well he should be thankful that he wasn't alone otherwise he'd be looking like me instead" said Naruto, "So wait you got jumped" asked Ruby as Naruto nodded his head.
"Ok, no joke, I'm going to seriously call your mom about this" said Ruby, "Please don't, I beg of you" pleaded Naruto as he didn't want to look like a candy ass cause his mom decided to talk to Sasuke's mom.
"She's going to ask about those injuries at some point today, so I'm just telling her now" said Ruby, "What about hanging with your sister today, isn't that going to take time away from hanging out with her" said Naruto.
"Not important, what's important is that I tell your mom about this and get you patched, now hold still" said Ruby as she forced Naruto to sit near a bench and began to patch him up.
"There, that should do it" said Ruby as Naruto was now properly bandaged and disinfected before pulling out her phone to call Kushina.
"Hey Kushina, this is Ruby. Yeah sorry to bug you over the weekend, but I'm here with Naruto. He's fine now, he actually got into a fight and-" began Ruby as she pulled her phone away after hearing Kushina yelled.
"He's fine now, I happened to ran into him and got him patched up, we're over here near the Redwood City Caltrain. Yes, I asked him and he told me he got jumped by Sasuke and his friends" continued Ruby.
"Yes. Ok. Yeah no problem, I'll keep an eye on him. Ok talk to you later" said Ruby as she finally finished talking to Kushina.
"You're mom said she's going to talk to Sasuke's mom" said Ruby as Naruto put his face in his hand.
"Why~" whined Naruto, "Because it's the right thing to do" said Ruby as she sat next to the blonde.
"Also she asked me to look out for you, until she decides to pick you up, so let's hang out" said Ruby trying to brighten Naruto's mood.
"What about your sister?" asked Naruto, "She's not here, she couldn't make it" said Ruby as she sounded very disappointed by the fact.
"Why?" asked Naruto, "It's for a stupid reason, let's not talk about it, and instead hangout" said Ruby as she needed a friend as much as the boy did right now.
Before Naruto could inquire more, he was suddenly dragged by Ruby as they headed into Redwood City where they passed all these fancy restaurants and stood outside the Century Cinema.
"Hi, 2 tickets for Alice in Wonderland" said Ruby at the ticket vendor as she purchased the admission for the movie they were going to watch, which honestly felt kind of appropriate.
"Really, Alice and Wonderland" said Naruto, "I mean, they are doing a back to back screening of the first 2 Twilight movies" said Ruby as Naruto recoiled out of pure cringe for Ruby even mentioning those movies.
"Ugh, I'd rather die before seeing those movies" said Naruto, "Smart answer, granted if you said yes and I was your emo-scene-vamp girl you'd earn my love, thankfully I'm not" said Ruby.
"I mean, I nothing against watching Alice in Wonderland, it just seemed almost… ironic, I think that's the word" said Naruto, "Why, because I'm a goth girl who likes Tim Burton movies" said Ruby.
"I mean I liked A Nightmare before Christmas" said Naruto as he saved face and got Ruby to smirk, "So do I" said Ruby as she bought them some confections before seeing some previews and the movie itself.
All in all, it was a good movie, and got Ruby in the mood to listen to Avril Lavigne.
"Well that was a good movie" said Ruby with a smile, "It was definitely different than the cartoon version my mom showed me" said Naruto.
"But it wasn't bad" said Naruto, "Glad you liked it, honestly, thank you for doing this for me" said Ruby.
"No problem Ruby, if you want we can hang out any time you like" said Naruto, "I'd like that a lot" said Ruby as her phone rang.
"Hello. Hey Kushina, me and Naruto were watching a movie right now, right here at the Century Cinema" said Ruby as she began her phone call with Kushina once more.
"No, it's not that far from the Caltrain. Where do you want us to meet you at?" asked Ruby.
"Ok, we'll meet you there shortly, ok bye" said Ruby as she hung up her phone as Naruto patiently waited to hear Ruby's instructions.
"You're mom wants us to meet here back outside the Barnes and Nobel, she's going to pick you up" said Ruby, "All right, let's go, and let's get this over with" sighed Naruto as he mentally prepared himself to face the music.
A good 20 minute walk later, and Naruto and Ruby spotted Kushina in the parking lot as she waved at them.
"Oh my god, are you all right Naruto" asked Kushina as she began to baby him in front of Ruby.
"Mom~, you're embarrassing me!" jeered Naruto as Ruby giggled on the sidelines.
"Ruby, thank you again for looking out for my son, I know he can be an idiot at times" said Kushina, "Hey!" exclaimed Naruto.
"It's all right Kushina, I actually don't mind hanging out with Naruto" said Ruby as the pair shot each other a smile.
"Well I can't thank you enough, mind if I give you a ride home" asked Kushina, "No, it's fine" said Ruby.
"Are you sure Ruby" asked Naruto as he knew how lonely the girl was this weekend, "Yeah, I'm sure, I've got other things to do today" said Ruby.
"Thanks again Ruby, I'll see you Monday morning" said Kushina, "Later" said Ruby as she waved them off as Kushina drove back home with her son.
"All right, now that we're alone, just what the freak were you doing trying to pick a fight with Sasuke" demanded Kushina as she pulled on Naruto's ear.
"Ow~! I didn't pick a fight with him, he was the one who picked a fight with me~!" cried Naruto as Kushina hold his ear for a minute before letting him go.
"Honestly Naruto, what am I going to do with you" sighed Kushina as she believed her boy was innocent, and yet a part of her can't take his word at face value anymore.
"So what did you and Ruby did while I was… busy" asked Kushina, "Nothing much, we went and saw a movie together" said Naruto.
"A movie huh, was it a romance movie for your little date" said Kushina with a smug smile getting her son to blush.
"Mom~, it wasn't a date, I swear!" exclaimed Naruto as his mother was getting a kick out of embarrassing him.
"Well that's good, because if it was, I would've had to fire Ruby" said Kushina, "Huh, why?" asked Naruto as he felt that was messed up of his mom to fire Kushina.
"Because, even if you 2 are close to the same age, it's inappropriate for a teacher to date their student, and in your situation I can't have that happen" said Kushina as having Naruto date his home school teacher might lead to bigger problems down the road.
"Well she's not interested in dating, I've shoot my shot and missed" said Naruto resulting in Kushina bopping him on the head.
"That's not appropriate Naruto, I'm just glad Ruby has integrity and is willing to be your friend" said Kushina, "Yeah, me too" said Naruto as he was thankful of having Ruby as his friend, even if she told his mom what happened.
Ok guys, here you all go after another week of waiting, also I'm going to mention this now that the story takes place parallel to our world set in the year 2010, which I personally feel is an appropriate year given the release of the album that this fic's name is tied to.
