Author's Note: Hello Readers if there are any, I don't normally write these as I can never find the words to put to page, each time I sit down and begin writing my finger always seems to hit backspace which leads to rewrite and rewrite. So my Readers, I warn you this fic is written as a challenge by my friend leading to preset parameters but outside of an OC, I'll try to stay within the capabilities of the world of Fairy Tail but I cannot promise it will stay perfectly within.

Thank you for reading this and I hope to have the First chapter posted sometime by the middle of this month, wish me luck my Readers and welcome to my story.

The Warmth of a Winter's Rose.

Sitting down I let out a long and slow sigh causing the candle beside me to flicker, picking up the pen before staring at the pages before me.

"Come on Darren, it's not that hard putting ink to page." Looking at the woman beside me it caused me to softly smile. "Oh no, that's not gonna work this time."

'Damn Lucy has all my moves memorized.' Slowly it became easier to write on the pages as I turned back. "I know Lucy, but it's hard to put the words to how I feel." My name is Darren Morgan and I'm a wizard but as Lucy keeps reminding me as I write this, I'm not just any Wizard I'm a Fairy Tail Wizard, part of the greatest Family in Fiore. My life has been filled with many stories, stories of which I am happy to share with you.

"As I keep reminding you?" Her tone caused Darren to wince before she suddenly laughed and punched my arm. "I guess you're right, I did remind you a lot because of how much of a downer you were."

"I was only a downer because of one story I won't ever publish." I told her before my pen began to move again. The first story I'll tell you is of how I met someone who would start the completion of my Family. "It's a story only you and few others will know."

The sudden touch on my shoulder caused a chill before a sigh escaped me. "I know, let's take a break and head to the guild, after all I'm sure Gray and Juvia are back by now so you two can jam together." Looking at her I slowly nodded before getting up, her hand gently stroking my bandaged covered arm with the simple gesture causing the feeling of lightning to lance up his arm. 'Nessara, how could you be so right and so wrong.'

"Thank you Lucy, so many years after I said goodbye and it still twists my soul… whatever is left of it." I gasp in pain before letting out breath of mist, causing Lucy to stand and gently catch me before I collapsed into the chair.

"Do you need Wendy!?" Lucy urgently demanded, my only response was to shake my head and smile at her. "Don't, don't smile at me like that… you stood against Zeref and then against Acnologia. You don't get to give me the same smile Natsu gave you!" Tears began to slowly build in her eyes as she tightly gripped my shirt.

"Lucy, I'm fine, just weak after everything so please dry your tears." I said as I gently pried her hands from her from my shirt. "My Family is what is left of my soul, that's all that matters."

"Sorry, it's just every day you seem different, like part of you died against Acnologia." Lucy wiped the tears from her eyes as I slowly stood, fixing the Bandage on my arm. "You barely eat an-"

"I'm free Lucy." I said with a laugh slowly turning to look down at her. "There's no expectation, just the next job… and The freedom from any judgment. The Winter Dragon Slayer finally has what his own Dragon told him he desired." Looking out the window and to the river I could only feel happy.

"Well, let's go show the guild this new Darren… I'm sure Gajeel and Levy would love to see you, especially that little bundle of joy they have." Lucy said as a wide smile formed that made my heart warm. 'I promised to never let that smile die and I'm glad to see I didn't fail.'
