Volume I: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
Note: I've decided to give a new Spider-Man origin story. It won't be exactly as it is in the comics, but rather I will use and include elements from the comics, videogames, movies, and tv shows into this series. Each Volume will stand for one year as Spider-Man. Volume I is year 1 as Spider-Man. I hope you all enjoy this as I have been recently inspired to write this.
"Alright my name is Peter Parker, and this is the story of how I became Spider-Man. I was just your average nerd from Queens, but one day in August changed my life forever."
It's 7:15 AM on August 10th at the Parker residence in Queens, New York. Peter is preparing for his first day of his sophomore year at Midtown High. Peter is a now 15-year-old teenager with today being his birthday and is 5'8, has brown hair, and glasses. Peter is also a science whiz with a high IQ and is raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben ever since his parents died in a plane crash when Peter was young.
Ding-Dong
"Who could that be at this early in the morning, May?" Uncle Ben asked his wife May.
"Don't worry. I'll get the door Uncle Ben", Peter said as he was about to sit down to eat breakfast with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben.
"Thanks Peter," his uncle chimed back.
As Peter opens the door he is surprised to see his two best friends, Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson. Gwen is 5'7, has straight blonde hair usually with a black headband, and has blue eyes. Mary Jane who goes by MJ is 5'6, has curly red hair with some freckles on her skin and face and has hazel eyes.
"Hi Pete, happy birthday, how are you?" asked Gwen.
"Gwen! I'm doing great. I'm excited for another year of school," Peter said as he hugged Gwen.
"Hey Tiger, you want to walk to school with us?" MJ asked.
"Yeah of course! I couldn't ask for better company than you two. Let me get my backpack real quick and I'll be right out," Peter answered.
As Peter comes back inside to get his backpack for school Aunt May asks, "Who was at the door Peter?"
"Gwen and MJ," Peter said smiling. "They asked if I wanted to walk to school with them. Sorry I couldn't finish breakfast, Aunt May."
"That's alright Peter, have fun at school today," Aunt May said.
"Will do," Peter said as he went back outside to re-join his two best friends.
(Outside)
"Pete, sorry that your birthday has to be on the first day of school," Gwen said as they start to walk to school.
"Don't sweat it, Gwen. I'm just glad to be spending it with you and MJ," Peter said.
"Thanks Pete," Gwen says while blushing.
"Speaking of your birthday, did your uncle tell you the surprise he got you for your birthday?" MJ asked.
"No… what is it?" Peter asked curiously.
"Well, it was supposed to be a surprise Tiger, but you, me, and Gwen are heading to that science thingy you've been talking about for months tonight for your birthday," MJ answered back.
"The Wilson Fisk science exposition?! Peter asked screaming with excitement. How did you get tickets? It's so expensive."
Gwen smiles as she is a science whiz just like Peter is. "Don't worry Pete. Since my dad is a police captain, he was able to get all of us passes into the expo."
"Oh my god Gwen that's amazing! This is gonna be the best birthday yet," Peter said with a huge smile on his face.
"Anytime Pete", Gwen said.
Gwen doesn't know why but seeing Peter so happy and enthusiastic makes her blush again.
"Well guys it looks like we're finally at school and – ugh hold on it's my Aunt Anna," MJ says as she picks up her phone to answer it. "Hi Aunt Anna, what's up? … Yes, I'm at school now… What? No! That's not fair! Aunt Anna that's at the same time as the science thing tonight," MJ protested…"Alright, I'll be there later tonight."
"What is it?" Peter and Gwen said together looking concerned.
"My Aunt Anna is making me pick her up from work tonight since her car is still in the shop, and it's at the same time as the science expo tonight. Sorry Tiger, I really wanted to celebrate your birthday with you tonight," MJ confessed.
"MJ, don't worry about it. We understand, both of us do. We'll have to get together some other time," Peter said.
"Thanks Tiger, I'll have to take you up on that offer," MJ said.
"Hey Gwen, you just wanna meet me at my place at 6 later tonight?" Peter asked, trying to improvise with the change of plans.
"Yeah Pete, sounds good," Gwen said smiling.
The first day of school at Midtown High has ended and it is now 6 PM at the Parker residence as Peter hears a knock at the door.
"Hey Peter, can you get the door for me," Uncle Ben asked.
"Sure thing Uncle Ben," Peter replied back.
Peter goes to open the door and sees Gwen standing at the door with a bright red cardigan on with some jeans on as well. Peter notices that Gwen specifically did her hair tonight as they were going to the science expo.
"Hi Pete, you ready for this expo tonight?" Gwen asked.
"Wow Gwen, you look amazing," Peter said.
"Thanks Pete, you always know what to say", Gwen said while blushing. "I'm sorry my dad already has to be at the expo doing security and couldn't drive us there right now," Gwen continued.
"Don't worry about it Gwen! We'll be leaving in just a moment for the expo", Uncle Ben said from inside the house.
Gwen and Peter are finally arriving at the expo as it is about to start. Both Peter and Gwen are very excited at going to the expo together.
"Have fun on your date, you two," Uncle Ben said jokingly.
"Uncle Ben, we're just friends, Peter said, as Gwen noticed Peter blushing.
"Thank you for the ride, Mr. Parker", Gwen said.
After Uncle Ben left Peter and Gwen at the expo Gwen used the passes her father gave her and they gained entry into the expo. Gwen and Peter are absolutely blown away by the future of science shown at the Wilson Fisk Science exhibition.
"Pete, come look at this!" Gwen said sounding very excited.
"Oh my god this is spectacular! It's alcanivorax bacteria that have been genetically modified via CRISPR into breaking down hydrocarbons as its sole nutrition source. Do you know what this means?" Peter asked very excitedly.
"The end of plastic waste everywhere on the planet and the lives of countless marine species could be saved from death and extinction from plastic waste in the oceans. I can't believe they were able to get a bacteria capable of breaking down plastics. This is revolutionary!", Gwen said.
Peter smiled right back at Gwen and nodded, indicating that they were on the same page. After all Peter and Gwen were both science nerds and proudly claimed that title.
A little while later before the expo started to shut down, they came to a spider exhibit that both Peter and Gwen were fascinated by. At the spider exhibit there was a sign that read: These 15 spiders, or super spiders as we call them at Oscorp have been genetically hybridized using multiple traits from multiple different species. These traits include bioelectricity, a precognition sense that warns the spiders of danger, active camouflage, increased healing caused by a higher metabolism, and increased strength as well as agility. Next to the sign was a chemical formula for the spider's webbing which was stronger than the average spider's as well. Gwen being curious about it took a picture of it.
Gwen looking confused asked, "Hey Pete how come I can only count 14 spiders, but it says there are 15 spiders."
"That's a good point Gwen, maybe one accidentally escaped from containment or something," Pete answered.
Right at that moment there came an announcement over the PA speakers that the expo was now closed but would be back next year.
"Gwen thanks for taking me out here to the expo for my birthday, it's the best birthday gift I could have ever asked for," Peter said to Gwen.
Unknown to Peter at the time the 15th super spider had escaped containment and was quietly crawling up his jeans and onto his jacket. Peter doesn't know it yet, but his destiny is about to change forever.
"Anytime Pete, what else are friends for?" Gwen said, smiling back at Peter.
"Hey, did you two kids have fun here tonight," George Stacy said comes upon the two young high schoolers near the expo exit. George Stacy is a police captain of the 19th precinct for the NYPD and is Gwen Stacy's father as well.
"We sure did Dad. We had the best time here," Gwen says as she looks at Peter.
"Alright Peter let's get you home at a reasonable hour tonight," George Stacy joked.
The expo is now over, and Peter is now being driven home by George Stacy. Peter felt grateful and happy that he got to go to the expo with Gwen and had fun with her while he was there.
"Thank you for the ride home, Mr. Stacy," Peter said.
"Anytime Peter, I'm glad you and Gwennie had fun tonight" George Stacy smiled.
"See you tomorrow at school Peter," Gwen said from the back seat.
"See you tomorrow, Gwen" Peter smiled.
As the car starts to pull away Peter feels a sharp pain on the back of his neck and immediately swats around his neck thinking it is a mosquito. Peter instantly killed what bit him, but it was not a mosquito.
"No way, that's the missing spider from the expo exhibit," Peters says aloud even though he is alone. "It looks similar to the other super spiders even. I'm sure it'll be nothing. It'll be like that bee sting I got last week," Peter said to himself before he walked in the home.
As Peter walks back into his house he is greeted by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben who want to know how his time at the expo went.
"Peter, how did your time at the expo go? Did you have fun with Gwen?" Aunt May asked.
"Yeah, I had a great time with her tonight but I'm feeling a little tired. Is it alright if I go to bed for the night?" Peter is feeling tired from the expo and surprisingly from the spider bite as well.
"Sure thing kiddo, see you tomorrow morning," Uncle Ben said.
Peter walked upstairs and went straight to bed as he fell right to sleep. Suddenly at 3:48 AM Peter woke up and felt like his body was on fire and was sweating profusely. The muscles in Peter's arms and legs are beginning to grow as his body and life are forever changing.
It's 7:00 AM at the Parker residence and Peter's alarm is going off reminding him that it's time to get up and dressed for school. Peter slammed the snooze button on his alarm clock and the clock was instantly smashed into pieces.
"Huh, what in the world? How did that happen?" Peter thought to himself.
"What was that noise, Peter?" said Aunt May from downstairs.
"Ah… nothing Aunt May!" Peter shouted downstairs.
Peter starts to get up and starts to open the door, but he takes the door handle right off the door.
"What the—" Peter says in disbelief.
Peter then set the doorknob down and proceeds to get in the shower when he remembers that spider bite last night was most likely from the escaped super spider and the super spider exhibit from the expo last night had a sign that said the spiders had increased strength among other traits. As Peter gets out of the shower, he looks in the mirror and realizes that he's no longer a slim nerd with no muscles. He has a lean muscular figure with abs to go along with it
"A spider bite gave me abs? Cool," Peter said aloud. "I wonder what other powers that spider gave me. I should test my new powers out when I'm alone during school today."
Peter then proceeded to get his clothes on and get ready for school today. As Peter put on his glasses, he noticed a blur through them and noticed that he could see exponentially better without his glasses on.
"Wow, so the spider bite made me stronger, and I have perfect vision now? This is awesome!" Peter thought to himself.
"Peter, are you alright up there, dear?" May said from downstairs.
"Ah… yeah, it's nothing! Don't worry about it Aunt May, I'll be right down," Peter replied.
"There's one more thing I want to try out before going downstairs," Peter said as he noticed a spider climbing up his bedroom wall.
Peter gets his hands on the wall and slowly started to move his hands slowly up the wall and found that his hands and feet would adhere to the wall like glue.
"I can even climb walls! This is the best thing to ever happen to me!" Peter screamed with joy.
10 minutes later Peter manages to finish getting ready and comes downstairs for breakfast full of confidence in himself with the new changes in his body and without his glasses.
"Oh, Peter did you finally decide to put in those contacts we got for your eyesight," May asked.
"Yeah," Peter lied.
"Well sit down and eat these wheatcakes I made for you," May said.
"Thanks Aunt May, I'm starving" Peter said as he quickly devoured the 4 wheatcakes Aunt May made him for breakfast.
Little does Peter know that his body is hungry because of the changes that Peter's body underwent last night while he was sleeping.
"It's 7:30 Aunt May, I should get leaving for school", Peter said upon realizing the time.
"Hey Peter, since I have to work a double shift tonight, I need you to pick up Aunt May tonight and accompany her through the subway and on the streets and walk her home. Can you pick her up at 6 PM tonight outside her work?" Ben asked.
"Yeah, will do, Uncle Ben" Peter said.
"Thanks Peter, I'll see you later tonight at 7 PM" Ben said.
Peter is thinking about his newfound powers that he has just stumbled upon and how to use them. Peter is curious about what to do.
"Uncle Ben, I have a question", Peter said with some curiosity.
"Yeah, what is it kiddo," Ben said.
"Well say I have these gifts; these hidden talents and I don't know what to do with them or how to use them in the world. What do you think I should do with them? Should I use these talents or gifts for great things in life?" Peter asked.
"Peter, you have a great heart and soul, and your mind is beyond anything I've ever seen before. You're meant for more than just popularity and fame. Use your gifts, your smarts for the right reasons, not for personal gain. Be yourself and use your talents responsibly. Remember Peter, with great power comes great responsibility," Uncle Ben answered.
"Thanks Uncle Ben, I love you," Peter said as he closed the door behind him and headed off to school.
Upon walking to school Peter spots Gwen in the distance walking by herself to school and decides to run up to her. Unknown to him at the time, but Peter is running up to Gwen much faster than any Olympian runner.
"Hey Gwen!" Peter shouts from a distance as he's running up to Gwen.
"Peter?" Gwen said.
"Hi, yeah, it's me. I just thought you might want to walk to school together," Peter smiled.
As Gwen is looking at Peter Parker, she notices that he looks different and is without glasses for the first time since she has known Peter. Not to mention he's cute and attractive as well.
"Pete… you look great," Gwen is shy and blushing quite a bit.
"Thanks Gwen, that means a lot. I've been working out," Peter lied.
"Well, you look good Pete, I like your new look," Gwen said while blushing quite a bit more.
Peter smiles back to Gwen as they arrive for their 2nd day of school.
It's 10:13 AM and in the middle of 4th period at Midtown High as Peter notices his pencil is stuck to his hand. Peter tries to forcibly remove the pencil from his hand, but with no luck.
"C'mon you damn thing why are you sticking to me, just let go," Peter thinks to himself.
"Uhhh Mr. Warren can I be excused to the restroom for a moment," Peter asks.
"Very well Mr. Parker just please come back to class soon," Raymond Warren says.
"Yes sir," Peter says as he leaves the classroom with the pencil still stuck to his hand.
(In the bathroom)
"Come on you stupid pencil just come off!" Peter is starting to get frustrated.
"Okay wait let's apply Occam's razor. The simplest solution is the most probable one. If I calm down and relax the pencil will fall from my hand and onto the ground," Peter says to himself.
To Peter's surprise, as soon as he relaxes the pencil quietly drops to the floor. And Peter now wants to test the rest of the powers that were the traits on the spider exhibit at the expo.
"Well, there aren't any gym classes until 10:45 AM and it's 10:18 AM right now so I have some time to test out my powers in the gym, "Peter says to himself.
(In the gym)
"Okay I can't remember all of them, but I know the sign said increased strength, agility, and a precognition sense that warns spiders of danger. Okay well I already tested out the strength, let's try the agility with seeing how far I can jump and maybe some flips since I can do flips on a trampoline, and then see if I can web things like a spider can" Peter is curious.
To Peter's surprise when he jumps across the basketball court, he can jump further than he's ever been able to jump before. Peter tries to do all sorts of hand gestures with his hands and bodies to make web come out of somewhere, but it doesn't. Next Peter tries to do a back flip and a front flip.
"Whoa! I've never been able to do that before. This is awesome. This is amazing! Okay so no webbing but my agility is off the charts compared to before the spider bite. Now how do I test to see if I have that precognition ability?" Peter is excited about his new powers.
Right as Peter is trying to test this one last ability Flash Thompson walks by on a restroom break as well. Flash Thompson is the biggest jock in Midtown High, has short blonde hair, and is the star quarterback for Midtown High. Flash silently goes into the gym and picks up a basketball and aims for Peter Parker's head.
Just then Peter gets this tingling sensation at the base of his skull and Peter instinctually ducks and the basketball goes over Peter's head. At that moment the fire alarm went off as Flash's basketball hit and smashed the fire alarm setting it off.
"Wow, so that must be the precognition sense that spiders have… a spider sense. Oh, Peter Parker, you are a genius. Well, better go with the rest of the school because of the fire alarm going off so I don't get in any trouble," Peter says in his own thoughts.
It's 3:00 PM at Midtown High and school is finally over for the day as Peter is packing up his things in his backpack as he prepares to head home for the day.
"Peter Parker!" said a voice booming down the halls of the school that Peter instantly recognized.
The voice belonged to Harry Osborn, another one of Peter's good friends. Harry is 5'8, has auburn hair, and blue eyes.
"Harry! How was Europe this summer with your father?" Peter asked.
"Oh, it was fantastic I had the time of my life. Sorry I couldn't make it for your birthday yesterday buddy. My flight back to New York didn't land until this morning," Harry answered.
"Don't sweat it bud, the good thing is that you're back now," Peter smiles.
Suddenly Mr. Warren, who teaches science, comes up to Peter to ask him something.
"Mr. Osborn do you mind if I borrow Mr. Parker for just a moment?" Warren asks.
"Sure," Harry replies trying to be polite.
"Mr. Warren if this is about my bathroom break, I heard the fire alarm and thought it would be better to head outside than back to class and that's why I didn't return," Peter is nervous.
"Mr. Parker don't worry that's not what I wanted to talk to you about, though you did make the right decision in not coming back to class. I was wondering if you wanted to meet with me in my office in 10 minutes to help set up tomorrow's biology lab for the class until around 7 PM tonight," Warren said.
"Yeah, that would be great, I'd love to help you set up for the lab tomorrow. Peter is excited but is also forgetting that he has to pick up his Aunt May at 6PM tonight.
"Excellent. I'll see you in my office in 10 minutes," Warren said.
After Peter is done talking to Mr. Warren, he sees MJ and Gwen about to leave school and wants to talk to them before he helps Mr. Warren out.
"MJ, Gwen. What's going on? You two up to something after school?" Peter asks.
"Yeah Tiger, we're going to the coffee bean to hang out with Harry if you want to come with us," MJ offers.
"Wish I could MJ, but I promised Mr. Warren to spend the next few hours with him in setting up the science lab for tomorrow," Peter apologized.
"That's okay Pete, we'll see you later," Gwen says in response.
"Oh, Gwen before you leave did you happen to take a picture of that chemical formula at the spider exhibit from last night at the expo?" Peter asks as he's thinking about his new powers.
"Yeah, Pete let me text it to you right now," Gwen smiles.
"Thanks Gwen, I got it," Peter smiles back.
"Alright Tiger we gotta head out to meet Harry, we'll see you tomorrow," MJ says.
"Sounds good MJ see you tomorrow," Peter says.
Peter now heads back across the school to meet up with Mr. Warren and help him set up for the science lab tomorrow.
It's 5:55 PM at Midtown High and Peter is still helping Mr. Warren set up for the science lab tomorrow. As Peter notices his phone is ringing and it's Uncle Ben calling.
"Do you need to take that call Peter?" Warren asked.
"No, its nobody I'm good to keep working," Peter lied.
At 7:30 PM Peter was finally done with helping Mr. Warren out and started to head home. Once Peter arrives at his house, he sees Uncle Ben sitting on the front porch with an angry expression on his face.
"You forget something Peter?" Ben says angrily.
Peter tries to think of what he could be forgetting that could make Uncle Ben. All of a sudden Peter's phone rings and its Aunt May calling him from inside the house.
"Oh shit," Peter says as he remembers he was supposed to pick up May at 6 PM at the hospital where she works as a nurse.
"Don't answer your phone, but I'm glad it works. Be a man! Get in there and apologize to your aunt," Ben said still angry at Peter.
Peter enters his house and immediately begins apologizing to his aunt as he knows he should have been there to pick her up.
"Look Aunt May, I'm sorry I wasn't there tonight to pick you up. I got distracted at—" Peter starts to apologize.
Ben interrupts Peter and says, "Oh you got distracted? Your aunt, my wife, had to walk 3 blocks alone in the dark and wait at an empty subway station ALONE. Something terrible could have happened to her Peter.
Ben realizes that he's been too hard on Peter as he knows that Peter realizes that he should have been there.
"Peter look at me, you're a smart guy. You really are, but choices have consequences son. You must remember that. With great power comes great responsibility" Ben finished.
"I already know I screwed up tonight, I don't need to be lectured by your nonsense Uncle Ben!" Peter is angry that he has to be lectured by his Uncle Ben after knowing he did the wrong thing tonight.
Peter turns and leaves the house slamming the door behind him. As Peter slammed the door, which was made up mostly of glass, it shattered due to Peter's new spider strength. Ben starts to go after Peter to get him to come back inside.
"Ben don't," Aunt May pleaded to her husband. "He just needs to be alone for a little while. I know you feel bad for upsetting Peter, but you did the right thing."
"I know," Ben still feels guilty for upsetting Peter but chose to listen to his wife and stay behind and not go after Peter.
Peter, still angry at his Uncle Ben, walks until he manages to come upon a convenience store next to a gas station.
"Might as well get something to drink I'm a little thirsty," Peter says to himself.
Right as Peter is leaving the gas station, he notices the store is getting robbed.
"Hey kid a little help?" the gas station store manager yelled to Peter as the crook escaped from the store.
"Sorry, not my problem!" Peter said as the crook runs up to Peter.
"Thanks kid", the crook said as he tossed Peter a wad of bills he stole from the store.
The store manager runs up to Peter after the crook had vanished into the night.
"What the hell is a matter with you kid? All you had to do was trip him as he was running away, and he would've been eating pavement. Why would you just let him get away?" the store manager asked angrily.
"Not my problem, I've got bigger problems than you right now bud," Peter said arrogantly.
Peter starts to head back home as he wants to apologize to Uncle Ben and Aunt May for what he said. Peter feels guilty about what he said to Uncle Ben.
"Uncle Ben was only looking out for me and all I did was insult him," Peter said to himself sadly.
Back at the Parker residence, Ben and May are getting increasingly worried about Peter as the time passes. Dennis Carradine burst into the house with a gun in his hand.
"Cops are right behind me, give me the keys to your car right now!" Dennis Carradine screamed while aiming a gun right at Ben and May.
"H-h-here you are sir," May said full of fear in her eyes as she hands Ben's car keys over to Dennis Carradine.
"Money now!" Carradine screamed at Ben.
"You probably have more money than we do," Ben chuckled.
Ben's joke enraged Carradine and shot at Ben in the chest. Carradine then ran out of the house and into the car with the car keys that May handed to him, while Ben is on the ground and bleeding from being shot.
"Ben, no!" May cried as she frantically picked up the phone to dial 911.
"911 What's your emergency?"
"A man broke into our house a-a-and shot my husband and stole our car. Please you have to help!" May panicked.
"We're on our way"
"May I can feel it, this is the end for me," Ben said with tears in his eyes.
"No Ben, you can't!" May screamed.
"I love you May. Tell Peter that I love him too and I'm incredibly proud of the man he has become," Ben said through his dying breath.
Meanwhile at the 19th precinct an officer came into Captain George Stacy's office.
"Captain there's been a homicide in Queens near Midtown High," the officer said.
"Gwen is she…" George Stacy asked
"She's fine, we sent a squad car to your house just in case Captain. The victim's name is Benjamin Parker," the officer said.
"My god," George Stacy said in disbelief.
He met Ben Parker before through Gwen and Peter's friendship and knew that Ben was a good man. George Stacy grabbed his gun and badge and left immediately headed for the Parker residence as he knew where they lived.
As Peter is walking back to his house, he notices some sirens and is curious about why the police are at his house.
"What's with all the sirens at home," Peter wondered.
Peter walks up to his house and sees that the police are barricading entry for anyone trying to get to the house. George Stacy could see that Peter was desperately trying to get through.
"Officers let him through," George said pointing to Peter.
As Peter enters his house, he sees Uncle Ben lying there dead on the ground with a single bullet wound to the chest and the floor is covered in blood.
"Uncle Ben! No! It's not fair!" Peter screamed out loud.
"Peter I'm so sorry," Mary Jane's Aunt Anna said to Peter.
MJ and Anna Watson live next door to Peter and Aunt Anna came over immediately to comfort Aunt May as the two are close friends.
Peter who was crying and full of rage immediately went upstairs as he noticed Gwen's dad was there and didn't want George Stacy to see him crying.
(Upstairs)
"It's not fair!" Peter screamed in his room.
Peter then punched the wall as hard as he could to help the rage. Peter's punch put a hole in the wall thanks to his spider strength and caused his red luchador mask that he was going to wear for Halloween to come tumbling down onto the floor from a shelf in his closet.
Outside, Captain Stacy was receiving a report on where the crook who took Ben Parker's life is.
"Captain, we found Ben Parker's car, it's located at 9th and Chelsea, a few blocks away," the officer said. "He's barricaded himself in an abandoned warehouse."
"Great, send units to that location right now and equip them with rioting gear. We're bringing this guy in tonight," George Stacy said.
"May we're gonna catch this guy and bring him to justice, you have my word" George Stacy said.
"Thank you, George" May said.
Little did anyone know that Peter's window was open, and he was able to hear the whole conversation about where the crook who took Ben's life was and Peter was preparing to dispense some of his own justice. Peter put the red luchador mask on so nobody would know it's him and climbed out the window using his new powers and ran over as fast as his legs could carry him.
(At the Watson residence)
MJ is worried for Peter after hearing the news of his uncle who was like a father to Peter dying. She understands the loss too since her mother died when she was younger. MJ looks across her room to Peter's house and sees a man in a red luchador mask climbing out of Peter's window.
"Peter… is that you?" MJ wonders.
On the other side of town, the police have arrived at the warehouse where Dennis Carradine has barricaded himself inside.
"You're surrounded. Come out with your hands up and surrender," George Stacy yelled over the megaphone.
Peter in the red luchador mask is standing on the top of an adjacent building that he climbed thanks to his spider powers. He sees a point of roof access into the warehouse and jumps onto the roof of the warehouse using his new powers and gains access to the warehouse where his uncle's murderer is.
(Inside the warehouse)
Dennis Carradine knows that he has no way out and is going to have to give himself up to the police. Just then he heard noises coming from the ceiling.
"Who's there?" Dennis Carradine shouted as he started to become afraid.
No answer came. Carradine continued to look around the warehouse until he got the feeling that someone was standing right behind him and aimed his gun right at Peter.
Peter's spider sense went off and he immediately grabbed Dennis Carradine's wrist and made him drop the gun, unintentionally breaking his wrist in the process.
"Ahhhhh! Carradine yelled in pain.
Peter still had his hand on Carradine's wrist as he kicked him away into the wall. Where the lights from the police surrounding the warehouse finally showed Dennis Carradine's face to Peter.
He was the same man who Peter didn't stop after he robbed that store. And Peter just let him go. Peter couldn't believe it was him. He could've stopped him and prevented Ben from dying. Peter realized and thought to himself that Ben's death is entirely his fault.
"You!" Peter screaming as he picked up Dennis Carradine off the ground by his neck. Why did you kill Ben Parker? Why?!" Peter demanded.
"You're ch-choking me," Carradine gasped.
"You don't deserve to live after what you've done!" Peter yelled.
At that moment he heard in his mind the last words his Uncle Ben spoke to him.
"With great power comes great responsibility Peter."
Peter spared Carradine's life and threw him to the ground, breaking Carradine's arm in the process.
"You get to live because he wouldn't want you dead," Peter screamed at Carradine thinking of Uncle Ben.
Carradine immediately ran outside to the police demanding to be arrested.
"Arrest me please! Get me away from that freak in there!" Carradine yelled to the police.
Peter looks down below from the top of the warehouse thinking to himself. "Ben wouldn't have wanted me to take his life. Justice has been served but at what cost. Ben told me with great power comes great responsibility and I didn't listen to him," Peter said crying under his mask as he ran on back home.
Back at the Parker residence it's 10 PM at night and the doorbell rang. George Stacy has returned but this time with MJ and Gwen. MJ and Gwen wanted to be there for Peter and asked George Stacy to drive them to Peter's house. Anna Watson opened the door.
"George, what brings you by? Did you catch him?" Anna asked.
"Yes, we got him. He's going away for a long time," George Stacy told Anna and May who was standing next to Anna.
"Thank you, George" May said.
"Where's Peter," Gwen asked.
"He's upstairs and has been for a while. You two girls should go upstairs with him. Peter will need the both of you now more than ever," May said to Gwen and Mary Jane.
Gwen and MJ go upstairs and open the door to Peter's room, who had just returned from the warehouse several minutes ago.
"Peter," Gwen said with concern and worry in her voice.
Peter looks up with red eyes and tears streaming down his face and sees Gwen with MJ.
"Gwen" Peter sobbed. "It's all my fault."
Gwen sat down next to Peter and hugged him and cried with Peter.
"Peter it's not your fault. They caught the guy who did this. He's going away for a long time," MJ said as she sat down on the other side of Peter and hugged him as well.
Both MJ and Gwen feel for Peter as both have experienced loss but not in the way Peter has experienced loss.
