Chapter 1: Prologue
Earth-1610B
Miles held the body of his father in his arms as he sobbed, resting his face against his cold chest. He was hoping for a heartbeat. He was hoping for anything. Every Spider-Person stood around him as he continued heaving.
"I'm sorry it had to go like this kid.." Miguel spoke softly, with regret as he nodded to four Spider-People. They quickly trotted over to the containment box that held the Spot, picking it up on all four sides as Miguel opened a portal back to Nueva York. Spot took the opportunity to bask in his victory. "I won Spider-Man! I won! You may have contained me, but you lost. I may have been the one to deliver the finishing blow, but you were the one that killed him!"
Miles immediately dropped his dad's body and lunged at the orange box, only to be held back by Peter B. and Gwen. "Miles.. It isn't worth it. You stopped him. Please don't undo that." Gwen reasoned, hugging his arm more than holding it. A glimmer of reasoning must have made its way through his stubborn skull because he stopped fighting back and pushed the two off him, including Gwen who stumbled back in surprise.
"FUCK!" He screamed, turning his back to them, and beginning to walk away. Electricity visibly moved around his body, being barely able to contain his anger. He shot a web onto a building before quickly swinging away. He had to get away from them. He had to get away from everything.
He swung through the city before going to the one place he always went for comfort. The Williamsburg Bank Building.
Gwen stood next to Peter helplessly as her arms hung at her side. "He saved all of us but-" "Not everyone." Peter nodded to Jefferson's body on the ground. "Miles was right, Gwen. Spider-Man always tries to do both. Doesn't mean he'll succeed. But that's what makes us who we are. We try. Do you understand what I'm getting at?"
She looked up at him, deep in thought before the realization struck her, a soft blush dotting her face. "Yes Peter.. I get what you mean." He chuckled sadly, patting her shoulder. "Good. Now do you know where he went? Any place that gives him comfort."
The teen nodded immediately. If anyone knew- it would be her. "I do." Peter nodded before giving her a weak smile. "Go get him, tiger." She began to walk away, looking back and rolling her eyes before swinging the same route he did.
After a few minutes of swinging, Gwen made her way to the Williamsburg Bank Building and quietly landed behind Miles. Pulling down her hood, she took a step towards him. She winced, feeling the largest headache of her life. Since when did she get migraines- 'Oh. It's my Spider-Sense..'
Feeling his grief radiate off him, Gwen slowly approached as she held tears back. "I know you're there." He said coldly, not even bothering to look back at her. His knees were up to his chest as he overlooked the sunrise. His eyes were still full of tears. He looked defeated.
"I.. Know you know." She replied, standing still behind him. "I'm really sorry.. About what just happened-" "Oh are you now?" He cut her off, still refusing to look at her. "Of course, I am." She replied, a look of confusion filled her face. "Not sorry enough to just be truthful I guess.." She frowned. "Miles. I'm-" He shook his head. "You're what? Sorry? Regretful? You have a shit ton of things to be sorry for so what exactly are you sorry for?"
"Everything.." She breathed. "I've been wanting to talk about this for the past few days, but you've been avoiding me.." She heard a sob come from him before he tried to regain his composure. "Yeah, why wouldn't I? You betrayed me. You betrayed your friend."
"I know I know but I told you about my dad and the society and- and everything! I thought we were going to make up! Is that not what is happening?" She tilted her head quizzically. "Yeah. Were. That's before my pa' died." He shot back.
"Okay look.. I know I really really really screwed up. But I want to fix it- I have been trying to fix it. I want to be here for you. You need someone to get through this with. You need a friend."
"Why do you keep doing that?" He asked, the anger slowly rising in his voice. "Do- Doing what?" She questioned. "Trying to tell ME what I NEED!" He began standing up. "I'm not trying to tell you anything! I'm- I'm just trying to help.." She raised her hands.
He turned to face her. She could now clearly see the devastation on his face. "The same way you helped me in Nueva!? Tell me, Gwen. Is this for my own good too!?" Tears began rolling down her cheeks. "Please.. Don't yell." She whispered, looking down, not bearing to keep his gaze.
"Answer the damn question." He said, turning his back to her as the sun kept rising. "No.. No, it's not for your own good." She replied softly, finally lowering her arms to her sides. A long silence passed before he finally spoke, his voice cracking up as he tried not to cry again.
"This- This is your fault… If you had just told me the fucking truth! Maybe we wouldn't be in this mess. Maybe my dad would not be lying dead on the sidewalk!" Gwen stood there in shock, each word shattering her heart into pieces. She opened her mouth to say something back, but she didn't know what to say. She couldn't know what to say to make up for… all of this.
"I don't want to see any of you again… Including you." He painfully spoke. Now it was him that couldn't look at her. "I want all of you to stay away from my dimension."
Gwen held her hand over her mouth as she looked down, letting out a sob. "I- I can't lose you too.."
"Too late, Gwen..." He spoke back, before walking to the edge of the roof and jumping off, swinging back to the others.
Gwen began to walk forward again, wanting to do nothing more than hug him before stopping herself. Gwen suddenly fell to her knees and started crying her heart out.
"I'm so sorry..." She said quietly.

I didn't like my other Spider-Verse fic wasn't cutting it, and it honestly hurt writing it. This story was inspired by another fic and we'll see how it goes.
