On this late night, a young adult couple ran. A real desperate chase was unfolding.

"Keep running! Keep running!" he shouted in a panic. His heart pounded as he held her hand as he tried to lead his girlfriend away from danger.

When she looked back, he screamed, "Linda! Don't look back!"

As she faced forward again, still running, she asked him, panicked, "Alan, what's going on?!" She was confused over why they were the ones getting chased. She caught herself before she stumbled.

They were on their way to the movies, finally happy that her boyfriend didn't flake out on her. Again. They held hands, laughing, happy and carefree when a van pulled up in front of them and strange men came out. The next thing she knew they were running as fast as they could.

The fear that gripped her was sudden, raw, and terrifyingly real.

"Just keep running!"

If she were in her right mind, she'd think Alan seemed a little too aware of what was going on.

Did he get in too deep? Fall into the wrong crowd?

Would explain why he suddenly went from devoted boyfriend to all-round flake. But why, though?

Suddenly, they hit a dead end: a crumbling cliff overlooking Magnapolis' lights. And going back was too risky. Right then, the edge crumbled beneath Linda's feet.

She screamed as she began to fall into the abyss.

Alan screamed her name as he reacted instinctively, his hand shooting out and snagging her hand.

She stopped falling, hanging suspended, dangling in the air. She stared, wide-eyed, terrified out of her mind. She was thankful for her boyfriend's surprising strength. Maybe he really was the hero type, after all.

"Don't worry, Linda," Alan said. "I won't let go." He tried to stay calm for her. His girlfriend's life was in his hands, literally. All dependent on his grip.

Linda almost believed him. But then, she started to slip out of his grasp.

It was odd. As if he were wearing a glove. And she began to take it with her.

If she were in her right mind, she'd question why Alan wore flesh-colored gloves with realistic skin texture. Weird guy.

But she was a little busy, not wanting to fall off a cliff.

Alan's glove had now slipped completely off his hand and she started to fall. She screamed, tears in her eyes. That glove quickly fell out of her grasp.

Alan just as quickly managed to grab her other hand with both his hands.

Her eyes widened in horror as she saw it: the empty space where Alan's hand should have been. It was as if she were dangling from a disembodied force.

Alan hadn't realized that his glove missing. He focused only on Linda as he kept his eyes on her as he whispered words of reassurance to Rosie, promising to pull her back up. It would have been romantic if her mind wasn't racing.

As he started to finally pull her up, Linda began to think. It started dawning on her. Alan only started flaking out on his responsibilities, ...his friends, ...her after Magnapolis gained a hero. And this hero would act so familiar to her at times that she had to out-right tell him that she had a boyfriend.

It was interesting talking to what looked like nothing, especially back when he had a practically bad reputation.

As he finally helped her back up to stable ground, he took her into his arms, gentle and comforting, all while Linda's mind was reeling with the thought, 'Oh, my God... Alan's The Invisible Man.'

I like Linda.

During my first watch of this show, I SOMEHOW missed that they were together. I thought they were just casual about it... noy sure if this term was a thing back in 2022, not that I'd normally use it, but I honestly thought that Alan was being a simp. It wasn't until I went to go rewatch when I realized. Guess I'm just used to superhero shows where guy tries to get the girl and not guy struggling to keep her.

Now, I think her anger is justified. Like sure we know what's happening, but she doesn't...
