"Alan, I can't believe you!"
"Linda, I can explain!"
Alan Crystal wasn't sure what he was expecting after missing yet another date with his very strong-willed girlfriend.
His face stung as she suddenly gave him one of her signature slaps with a roar of, "I'M GETTING REAL SICK OF THIS!"
His face stinging wasn't quite as bad as the guilty in his chest knowing that he hurt her yet again. He was even looking forward to this date, too. But he had unfortunate responsibilities. It wasn't fair. And he didn't ask for it.
After he removed his hand from his face to try to reassure her, her angry glare quickly melted into a look of pure horror. Her eyes quickly flickered to her nails. She definitely had gotten a manicure special for this date.
"A-Alan?" She just stared at him, her eyes wide.
He didn't like how she was looking at him. He tried to smile assuringly as he nervously asked, "What's wrong?" It was so strange seeing his very strong-willed girlfriend staring at him that way.
She could only numbly gesture to her own cheek.
He did the same to his own cheek, only to recoil in horror when he realized that her freshly manicured nails had actually sliced through his mask, leaving a gaping hole on the cheek. It revealed his invisible face.
Alan's heart sank as he watched her connect the dots.
Linda just looked at him as if she had never seen him before.
"Alan... you're The Invisible Man."
She didn't phrase it like a question.
He didn't know what to do now. There were times where he wished Linda knew, but now he could only think of why it was a bad idea. He has enemies who would never hesitate to use her to get to him. He can't just break up with her for her protection. One, everyone knows that they been together, it wouldn't take long to link her to him. Two, she was too strong-willed and stubborn to just sit down and accept it. And three, his heart wouldn't be in it.
He just didn't want her to get hurt.
And the two of them both knew that they loved each other truly.

"I'm sorry..."
I like Linda.
During my first watch of this show, I SOMEHOW missed that they were together. I thought they were just casual about it... noy sure if this term was a thing back in 2022, not that I'd normally use it, but I honestly thought that Alan was being a simp. It wasn't until I went to go rewatch when I realized. Guess I'm just used to superhero shows where guy tries to get the girl and not guy struggling to keep her.
Now, I think her anger is justified. Like sure we know what's happening, but she doesn't...
