Chapter One
Andy had come into the ballroom screaming that the floor wasn't stable and that trying to warn people. She managed to get a few people to move away from the floor, but it was too late because half a dozen people still fell along with the collapsed floor. Andy and Jack having when a couple. They had managed to hang on, but others were not so lucky. Travis helped to pull Jack up and Vic and Theo helped Andy.
Even though Andy had a head wound and Vic told her that she should get checked out, Andy still moved over to the DJ and grabbed the microphone, went into captain mode and hoped that she would be loud enough to talk over the chaos.
"All right, listen up!" Andy spoke through the mic as firefighters and staff tried to help where they could. "46's squad is outside. Grab tools, ropes, and med gear. Andy turned to face the wait staff "Wait staff, direct us to first aid kits, flashlights, ladders, anything that can help." Andy turned and looked in the middle of the room where she saw Carina and Maya. "DeLuca, start setting up triage. Bishop, grab me some tablecloths and, uh," Andy hesitated, feeling a headache coming on. "Hoses to help lift the walking wounded." Maya and Carina both nodded and moved to get the needed supplies.
"Hatton, Dearborn, grab some chairs, create a perimeter. Go, go, go! Plus ones, we got this, you can leave." Andy stepped down from the DJ stand. "Farris, come here. Andy walked over to a window. "Help me pull down these curtains." Farris and Andy worked on taking the curtains off the poles. "We can use them as hammocks for transport and help people climb up.
Meanwhile down by the hole Sullivan was trying to figure out where Chief Ross was and kept calling out, trying to figure out where she was.
Andy, Maya, Jack, and a couple of others were with Nanette. Andy was starting to feel her headache even more but pushed through.
"What, w-w-where am I?" Nanette asked.
"Try to relax, okay? We've got you." Maya told her, feeling around her collarbone and then moving her ear over her mouth and then looking at Andy. "I'm worried she has a crush injury. And her pulse is thready."
Andy nodded. "Alright, triage is overloaded. We just need to get her to a place outside the chaos."
"Kitchen" Jack spoke up. "We'll use the kitchen."
While everyone prepared to lift her up Jack was standing up, ready to lead them to the kitchen when he saw Carina. "Carina, we need you over here." Carina walked over while Andy, Maya and the rest of the team helped to lift her. Andy just about fell over when she felt a dizzy spell come on and she even stepped back, but no one seemed to notice which she was grateful for, knowing that other people needed medical help more.
"Her name is Nanette. She's eight months pregnant, complaining about back pain. I think she was going into labor when the floor fell."
"Okay, we need to get her to the hospital now," Carina said but still knew they had to stabilize her, so she followed the group to the kitchen.
Maya broke away from the group, "I'll go check to see if any aid cars have arrived." Maya said and ran out of the room.
Andy nearly fell over again and this time someone noticed. Vic was about to ask if she was okay, but they had made it to the kitchen and Andy rushed off, knowing more people needed to be helped.
When Andy got back into the ballroom, she saw Theo digging around the rubble, looking for anyone else who may have fallen in. She saw Vic run in behind her and saw she was gonna say something to her but before she could Theo called her over, saying he needed help. Vic looked at Andy one last time, not sure if she should leave her alone. Andy exhaled when Vic just went to the ladder by the hole and climbed down. She really didn't want to stop helping and knew she would get sidelined if anyone found out how bad her head was.
Andy had been lending a hand, tending to people who were still being pulled out and watching Travis tend to Dixon closely, knowing that Dixon's health wasn't good. It was obvious that he had crush injuries due to the cement on his chest. Andy didn't know how he was still holding on, but she knew Travis wouldn't give up on him, no matter how much doubt that he would survive they had.
Andy saw that Robert had brought up Chief Ross and that she was awake now. Andy sighed but soon regretted it as she felt lightheaded but just kept looking around, seeing if there was anyone else she could help with.
When Andy looked in the hole and saw Dixon cough up blood, she knew he didn't have much longer. Andy decided that she needed to step in and double checking she looked around to make sure everyone was being taken care of before she left them to check on Travis.
Andy looked at Robert, silently questioning if he was okay with Ross and when he nodded, she gave him a small, thankful smile and moved to where the ladder was placed to go down into to hole. Andy looked up one more time and saw Ruiz with Kate and Vic. She caught Vic's attention and like she did with Sullivan, questioned if they were okay. Andy received a nod, so she looked back to the ladder.
Andy got down the ladder along with help from another female firefighter from another station. Andy heard Kitty's yells as she was going down and ignored the feeling of wanting to just lie down due to being tired and hurting from her head injury. Knowing she needed to be there for Travis right now. "Montgomery?" Andy called as she was going down and again when she got down. "Montgomery," Andy called as she got closer. "Travis. Come back." Andy saw that Travis was zoned out "Travis, it's okay. It's okay." Andy told him. "You did good." Andy rested a hand on his shoulder, partly so she wouldn't fall over. "You did really good," Andy told him, pulling him into a hug while she heard Kitty's cries in the back. She closed her eyes, wishing that none of this had happened. She rubbed his back while she felt Travis' arms just hanging and not hugging her back. She directed Travis towards the ladder and then turned back to face Dixon. She had never liked the man, but he didn't deserve to go out like this. She sighed and once again regretted it when she felt dizzy. She raised a hand to her forehead and nearly fell over again. She slowly walked over to the ladder and made her way up.
Once she got up the first thing she saw was that Chief Ross was still sitting in a chair. "What are you doing here? You need to go to the hospital."
"She refused to leave until everyone else was taken care of so now we're just waiting for an aid car."
"Oh, come on, you gotta take care of yourself, too, you know?" Andy replied, tilting her head, concern etched on her face.
"Mm-hmm" was the only response she received for that comment. There was silence for a moment as Chief Ross looked around the room. When she saw that everyone from 19 was still there, she called them over. "So, there's something I was going to announce tonight but obviously I never got a chance to."
Jack looked at Andy and smiled, knowing what Ross was about to tell the group while Ruiz held a scowl on his face but while Andy didn't notice, Jack did and he glared at Ruiz, knowing he was jealous. Ruiz looked back at him and quickly schooled his face, remaining neutral.
"What is it?" instead of any of the firefighters asking they were all surprised when Carina, by Maya's side, had been the one to ask.
"It's to do with who who's the next captain of 19."
All the firefighters looked around, half the firefighters looked at Ruiz, some looked at Andy and a couple even looked at Sullivan.
Maya opened her mouth like she was about to say something but paused. She looked at Theo and noticed he wasn't making eye contact with anyone. She looked at Sullivan and noticed he was staring back and shook his head. That only leaves Andy. She thought and looked over to her. When she saw that Andy was looking down, a light blush on her face she knew that her friend had finally gotten her dream job.
"Finally." She heard Travis mutter.
""Finally," what, Travis?" Ben had asked.
"Herrera," Travis called, and she looked up, "It's you, isn't it?" he smiled. "That's why it was you taking charge tonight. Why it was you that was running around trying to figure out what was going on with Chief Ross instead of enjoying the party, isn't it?"
Andy nodded, looking around the room, trying to gauge how everyone else was feeling about having her as their captain. When she saw everyone smiling, well everyone except for Ruiz she felt relieved and breathed out. The team cheered and started to congratulate her when she was overcome with the feeling of possibly being sick. She turned around when she felt bail rising up, having not eaten anything since breakfast that day she knew there was not much in her stomach. She covered her mouth, quickly choking it back before anyone got too suspicious. Andy turned around and saw that everyone had already turned away from her and she took a sip of the water she was holding in her hand but it did nothing to help. She took a step forward but felt the room tilt. She closed her eyes, knowing that this wasn't good. She brought a hand to her head, opened her eyes, and realized her vision was blurry.
Andy was about to call out for someone to help her but before she could her eyes rolled back, and she began to fall.
Vic was looking around the room, thankful that everyone at the station was okay and when she looked at Andy, she was still worried about her head injury when she noticed Andy stumble for the second time tonight. When she saw Andy close her eyes, she started to walk over to her and started running when she saw her falling. "ANDY!" she called out. Sprinting and just being able to catch her.
So, I don't know where I'm going with this. I don't know if I'll have this be something major or if it's just something minor going on with Andy, but there will be another update soon. Yes, despite starting new stories, I WILL BE updating my other ones.
