Chapter Three

Travis took his eyes off the road when they were at a red light and saw that Vic had tears in her eyes and rested a hand on her thigh. "Vic, we all saw the cut on her head. We all let her work. You cannot blame yourself for this."

Vic looked at Travis, a tear falling down her cheek, but she nodded. "I know, this just sucks."

Travis smiled sadly at her and nodded. "It does. But I'm sure she'll be okay."

The rest of the ride to the hospital was silent. Neither knew what to say. They were just hoping Andy was okay. Hoping that her vitals were stable and that it was as simple as just a concussion and praying that their captain wasn't severely injured.

When they got to Grey-Sloan they parked in the parking lot and rushed towards the waiting room where they saw Jack, head in his hands.

"Jack." Vic heard herself calling out and Jack looked up, running a hand through his hair. "Any news?"

Jack looked down at his hands and let out a sigh. Jack looked at Vic. "Yeah, Dr. Shepherd took Andy for some scans and I'm just waiting for her to come back." Vic nodded. "She and Hunt looked over her for any other injuries and they saw that she was working through a fractured arm. I'm still trying to figure out how she was doing it, but I think we all know it was probably adrenaline."

Vic and Travis looked at each other, shocked. "Even then, wouldn't she have noticed herself that she was working through a broken arm?"

"You guys know Andy. You know that she'll do anything to help anyone. Tonight, she was helping her own. Of course, she would do whatever it took." Jack was going to continue when Teddy came into the room.

"Dr. Altman, how's she doing?" Jack asked, standing up.

"Dr. Shepherd is still running the scans, but we think Andy just suffered from a grade two concussion." Teddy looks between the three firefighters. "Did no one notice her showing symptoms?"

Vic looked down and then back up at Teddy. "I noticed her stumbling a couple of times while helping a few victims, but I didn't think too much of it." Vic ran a hand over her face. "I feel like such a fucking idiot." Travis wrapped an arm around Vic's shoulders, trying to comfort her.

"No one can play the blame game right now, okay?" Teddy told them. "Look, we'll bring her to a room after her scan. In the meantime, why don't you all get changed and come back? We'll have someone by Andy's side until one of you comes back."

"How long until she'll be released?" Vic asked.

"Assuming she's able to hold down a meal and she doesn't have any additional medical problems she should be able to go home in a day."

All of them let out a sigh of relief and walked out of the hospital. "I think an hour gives us enough time to get back to go home, clean up and then come back," Travis said. "I'll text the group chat and let everyone know the plan." Vic and Jack nodded.

It was two hours later when everyone made their way to the hospital. Travis, Jack and Vic did their best to reassure everyone that she would be okay, but everyone still wanted to see Andy with their own eyes.

Everyone was in the waiting room, waiting for Miranda or any other doctor to come in and update them.

It was another five minutes before Teddy came into the waiting room and everyone stood up and rushed over to her.

Teddy held a hand up, stopping any of them from asking questions so she could speak.

"Andy is going to be okay. Her head injury was the injury we were most concerned about so you can breathe easy," Teddy told the group.

"Does she have any other injuries?" Maya asked, holding Carina's hand, worry overflowing for her best friend.

"A fractured left arm," Teddy told everyone and saw them all sigh. They all knew Andy would hate having to take weeks off. "We have it in a brace right now. We'll put a cast on it when the swelling goes down," Teddy explained. "We're settling her into a room right now, for now, I'm going to say two people can visit since visiting hours are over."

The group sighed but nodded, understanding. They watched Teddy walk off and looked at each other, wondering who would go.

"Jack, I think you should go see her," Travis said. He could see how worried Jack was for Andy.

Jack nodded and looked around the room and could see how guilty Vic looked.

"Vic, you should come with me," Jack said, briefly looking at Maya but he saw an understanding look in her eyes and nodded, understanding why it should be him and Vic and not him and Maya.

Vic looked at Maya, silently making sure it was okay with her. When Maya nodded she rushed down the hall to Andy's room and took a breath before entering the room with Jack.

Sorry, had half the chapter written for weeks and got blocked on the second half of it. Sorry.
